  • A robust deterministic control for a class of singularly perturbed uncertain systems, where uncertainties are characterized deterministically rather than stochastically, is developed based mainly on information available on an uncertain reduced-order system. The deterministic control scheme is applied to the motion control of a n degree of freedom robotic manipulator. The parasitic actuator and sensor dynamics of the manipulator are explicitly considered in the stability analysis of the deterministic controller using a singular perturbation model. Simulation and experimental studies for a two degree of freedom, direct drive SCARA manipulator are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the derived control scheme.

  • The data resulting from a deterministic dynamic system may often appear to be random. However, it is important to distinguish a deterministic and a random processes for statistical analysis. In this paper, we propose a nonparametric test procedure to distinguish a noisy chaos from i.i.d. random process. The proposed procedure can be easily implemented by computer. We notice that the test is very effective to identify a low dimensional chaos process in some cases.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a method of multi-objective, stochastic optimization in water resources system which investigates the development of potential non-normal deterministic equivalents for subsequent use in multiobjective stochastic programming methods, Given probability statement involving a function of several random variables, it is often possible to obtain a deterministic equivalent of it that does not include any orginal random variables. A Stochastic trade-off technique-MSTOT is suggested to help a decision maker achieve satisfactory levels for several objective functions. This makes use of deterministic equivalents to handle random variables in the objective functions. The emphasis is in the development of non-normal deterministic equivalents for use in multiobjective stochastic techniques.

  • In this paper, a mathematical dynamical system involving both deterministic (with or without delay) and stochastic "SIR" epidemic model with nonlinear incidence rate in a continuous reactor is considered. A profound qualitative analysis is given. It is proved that, for both deterministic models, if d > 1, then the endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. However, if d ≤ 1, then the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. Concerning the stochastic model, the Feller's test combined with the canonical probability method were used in order to conclude on the long-time dynamics of the stochastic model. The results improve and extend the results obtained for the deterministic model in its both forms. It is proved that if s > 1, the disease is stochastically permanent with full probability. However, if s ≤ 1, then the disease dies out with full probability. Finally, some numerical tests are done in order to validate the obtained results.

  • In order to derive hidden information (concept subsumption, concept satisfiability and realization) of OWL ontology, a number of OWL reasoners have been introduced. The most of these ontology reasoners were implemented using the tableau algorithm. However most reasoners simply report this information without providing a justification for any arbitrary entailment and unsatisfiable concept derived from OWL ontologies. The purpose of this paper is to investigate an optimized method for non-deterministic rule of the tableau algorithm and finding axioms to cause inconsistency in ontology. In this paper, therefore, we propose an optimized method for non-deterministic rule and finding axiom to cause inconsistency using NATMS. In the first place, we introduce Dependency Directed Backtracking to deal non-deterministic rule, a tableau-based decision procedure to find unsatisfiable axiom Furthermore we propose an improved method adapting NATMS.

  • In the deterministic optimization of a structural system, objective function, design constraints and design variables, are treated in a nonstatistical fashion. However, such deterministic engineering optimization tends to promote the structural system with lest reliability redundancy than obtained with conventional design procedures using the factor of safety. Consequently, deterministic optimized structures will usually have higher failure probabilities than unoptimized structures. Therefore, a balance must be developed between the satisfactions of the design requirements and the objectives of reducing manufacturing cost. This paper proposes the reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) technique, which enables the optimum design that considers confidence level for the vibration characteristics of structural system. Response surface method (RSM) is utilized to approximate the performance functions describing the system characteristics in the RBDO procedure. The proposed optimization technique is applied to the pillar section design considering natural frequencies of a vehicle structure.

  • To apply the queueing network theory in evaluating performances of flexible manufacturing systems, it is generally assumed that the processing times are distributed exponentially. However, in FMS, processing times are usually deterministic. In this study the performance measures of FMS are approximated under the assumption that processing times are usually deterministic. Multi-classes of parts and single server and multi-server stations are considered in the model. This study also that, in the numerical example, this approach yields better solutions than those obtained by the pure Linearizer algorithm, when the processing times are deterministic.

  • In order to overcome the limitation of deterministic forecast, an ensemble forecasting system for regional ocean wave is developed. This system predicts ocean wind waves based on the meteorological forcing from the Ensemble Prediction System for Global of the Korea Meteorological Administration, which is consisted of 24 ensemble members. The ensemble wave forecasting system is evaluated by using the moored buoy data around Korea. The root mean squared error (RMSE) of ensemble mean showed the better performance than the deterministic forecast system after 2 days, especially RMSE of ensemble mean is improved by 15% compared with the deterministic forecast for 3-day lead time. It means that the ensemble method could reduce the uncertainty of the deterministic prediction system. The Relative Operating Characteristic as an evaluation scheme of probability prediction was bigger than 0.9 showing high predictability, meaning that the ensemble wave forecast could be usefully applied.

  • This study is to decide each level ordering policy for deterministic demand in multilevel distribution system. The ordering policy is used the combinations of EOQ and LTC. The combinations of EOQ and LTC are 4 cases. Case 1 : Regional Warehouse∼EOQ, Central Warehouse∼EOQ. Case 2 : Regional Warehouse∼EOQ, Central Warehouse∼LTC. Case 3 : Regional Warehouse∼LTC, Central Warehouse∼EOQ. Case4 : Regional Warehouse∼LTC, Central Warehouse∼LTC. The criterion is to minimize total cost per year.
