This paper presents a new type of fuzzy-sliding mode controller for robust tip position control of a single-link flexible manipulator subjected to parameter variations. A sliding mode controller is formulated with an assumption that imposed parameter variations are bounded so that certain deterministic performance can be guaranted. In the design of the sliding mode controller, so called moving sliding surface is adopted to minimize the reaching phase and thus mitigate system sensitivity to the variations. The sliding mode controller is then incorporated with a fuzzy technique to reduce inherently ever-existing chattering which is impediment in position control of flexible manipulators. A set of fuzzy parameters and control rules are obtained from a relation between predetermined sliding surface and representative points in the state space. Computer simulations are undertaken in order to demonstrate superior control performance of the proposed methodology.

A GoldSim template program for a safety assessment of a hybrid-typed repository system, called A-KRS, in which two kinds of pyro-processed radioactive wastes, low-level metal wastes and ceramic high-level wastes that arise from the pyro-processing of PWR nuclear spent fuels are disposed of, has been developed. This program is ready both for a deterministic and probabilistic total system performance assessment which is able to evaluate nuclide release from the repository and farther transport into the geosphere and biosphere under various normal, disruptive natural and manmade events, and scenarios. The A-KRS has been probabilistically assessed with 9 selected input parameters, each of which has its own statistical distribution for a normal release and transport scenario associated with nuclide release and transport in and around the repository. Probabilistic dose exposure rates to the farming exposure group have been evaluated. A sensitivity of 9 selected parameters to the result has also been investigated to see which parameter is more sensitive and important to the exposure rates.

Probabilistic nonlinear first ply failure loads of flat composite panels and nonlinear buckling loads of curved composite panels with cutouts are estimated to provide the more reliable main load carrying structure in the renewable energy industry and offshore structures. The response surface method approximates limit state surface to a second order polynomial form of random variables with the results of deterministic finite element analyses at given sampling design points. Furthermore, the iterative linear interpolation scheme is used to obtain a more accurate approximation of the limit state surface near the most probable failure point (MPFP). The advanced first order second moment method and the Monte Carlo method are performed on an approximated limit state surface to evaluate the probability of failure. Finally, the sensitivity of the reliability index with respect to transformed random variables is investigated to figure out the main random variables that have an effect on failures.
In this study, a reliability-based design (RBD) procedure for determining design values fur anchored sheet pile wall is proposed considering overturning about the anchor point as the major failure mode. In this design procedure, the depth of embedment of the sheet pile wall is logically chosen in accordance with degrees of uncertainties of design input parameters using approximate probabilistic computation methods. These methods have been successfully used in the geotechnical engineering requiring neither understandings of complex probabilistic theories nor efforts to prepare more data. It was investigated that the design results by the proposed method were compatible with those by commonly used deterministic design methods. Additionally, in an effort to investigate the effects of changes in the degree of uncertainties of major design variables on the design results of the sheet pile wall, a sensitivity analysis was peformed.

The lack of experimental studies on the mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) haunched beams leads to difficulties in statistical and reliability analyses. This study performs stochastic and reliability analyses of the ultimate shear capacity of RC haunched beams based on nonlinear finite element analysis. The main aim of this study is to investigate the influence of uncertainty in material properties and geometry parameters on the mechanical performance and shear capacity of RC haunched beams. Firstly, 65 experimentally tested RC haunched beams and prismatic beams are analyzed via deterministic nonlinear finite element method by a special program (ATENA) to verify the efficiency of utilized numerical models, the shear capacity and the crack pattern. The accuracy of nonlinear finite element analyses is verified by comparing the results of nonlinear finite element and experiments and both results are found to be in a good agreement. Afterwards, stochastic analyses are performed for each beam where the RC material properties and geometry parameters are assigned to take probabilistic values using an advanced simulating procedure. As a result of stochastic analysis, statistical parameters are determined. The statistical parameters are obtained for resistance bias factor and the coefficient of variation which were found to be equal to 1.053 and 0.137 respectively. Finally, reliability analyses are accomplished using the limit state functions of ACI-318 and ASCE-7 depending on the calculated statistical parameters. The results show that the RC haunched beams have higher sensitivity and riskiness than the RC prismatic beams.

The deterministic MOC code STREAM of the Computational Reactor Physics and Experiment (CORE) laboratory of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), was initially designed for the calculation of pressurized water reactor two- and three-dimensional assemblies and cores. Since fast reactors play an important role in the generation-IV concept, it was decided that the code should be upgraded for the analysis of fast neutron spectrum reactors. This paper presents a coupled code - TULIP/STREAM, developed for the fast reactor assembly and core calculations. The TULIP code produces self-shielded multi-group cross-sections using a one-dimensional cylindrical model. The generated cross-section library is used in the STREAM code which solves eigenvalue problems for a two-dimensional assembly and a multi-assembly whole reactor core. Multiplication factors and steady-state power distributions were compared with the reference solutions obtained by the continuous energy Monte-Carlo code MCS. With the developed code, a sensitivity study of the number of energy groups, the order of anisotropic PN scattering, and the multi-group cross-section generation model was performed on the keff and power distribution. The 2D core simulation calculations show that the TULIP/STREAM code gives a keff error smaller than 200 pcm and the root mean square errors of the pin-wise power distributions within 2%.

A new prediction model is derived for the uplift capacity of suction caissons using a hybrid method coupling genetic programming (GP) and simulated annealing (SA), called GP/SA. The predictor variables included in the analysis are the aspect ratio of caisson, shear strength of clayey soil, load point of application, load inclination angle, soil permeability, and loading rate. The proposed model is developed based on well established and widely dispersed experimental results gathered from the literature. To verify the applicability of the proposed model, it is employed to estimate the uplift capacity of parts of the test results that are not included in the modeling process. Traditional GP and multiple regression analyses are performed to benchmark the derived model. The external validation of the GP/SA and GP models was further verified using several statistical criteria recommended by researchers. Contributions of the parameters affecting the uplift capacity are evaluated through a sensitivity analysis. A subsequent parametric analysis is carried out and the obtained trends are confirmed with some previous studies. Based on the results, the GP/SA-based solution is effectively capable of estimating the horizontal, vertical and inclined uplift capacity of suction caissons. Furthermore, the GP/SA model provides a better prediction performance than the GP, regression and different models found in the literature. The proposed simplified formulation can reliably be employed for the pre-design of suction caissons. It may be also used as a quick check on solutions developed by more time consuming and in-depth deterministic analyses.

A reliability analysis on sliding of monolithic vertical caisson of composite breakwaters is extensively carried out in order to make the basis for the applicability of reliability-based design method. The required width of caisson of composite breakwaters is determined by the deterministic design method including the effect of impulsive breaking waves as a function of water depth, also studied interactively with the results of reliability analyses. It is found that the safety factor applied in current design may be a little over-weighted magnitude for the sliding of caisson. The reliability index/failure probability is also seen to slowly decrease as the water depth increases for a given wave condition and a safety factor. In addition, optimal safety factor can roughly be evaluated by using the concept of target reliability index for several incident waves. The variations of optimal safety factor may be resulted from the different wave conditions. Finally, it may be concluded from the sensitivity studies that the reliability index may be more depended on the incident wave angles and the wave periodsrather than on the bottom slopes and the thickness of rubble mound.
Following is discovered in this study by some. First, attribute(product/non- product) of that truth that get through experiment of this study is WOM deduced result that have statistical meaning in dependent variable which is public trust only in this study. Specially, information by word of mouth type received High positive response more with non-product information by word of mouth attribute than the product attribute in all experiment products that is parted according to involvement. Consumer's response by involvement level of product can affect for site attitude, public trust, and intention to purchase by second. For example, consumer's site attitude has induced the most positive response, and can confirm positive response of High consumer most in that involvement sensitivity product in that participation reason type product and could confirm response that is the most positive in that involvement reason product even if there is for intention to purchase. Result of this study is grasped that have High mean value relatively in site attitude, product attitude, information by word of mouth effect, public trust, brand attitude, purchase intention etc. generally that product involvement and information by word of mouth attribute are interrelation by third. This can change fairly data processing process according to consumer's Involvement Level, behavior deterministic process, consumer's action with attitude formation process, and involvement for products. High occasion than is low incline more efforts in information retrieval and is discreet result such as study finding of produce.
This paper presents an assessment of applicability of the multigroup cross sections generated with Monte Carlo tools to the fast reactor analysis based on transport calculations. 33-group cross section sets were generated for simple one- (1-D) and two-dimensional (2-D) sodium-cooled fast reactor problems using the SERPENT code and applied to deterministic steady-state and depletion calculations. Relative to the reference continuous-energy SERPENT results, with the transport corrected P0 scattering cross section, the k-eff value was overestimated by 506 and 588 pcm for 1-D and 2-D problems, respectively, since anisotropic scattering is important in fast reactors. When the scattering order was increased to P5, the 1-D and 2-D problem errors were increased to 577 and 643 pcm, respectively. A sensitivity and uncertainty analysis with the PERSENT code indicated that these large k-eff errors cannot be attributed to the statistical uncertainties of cross sections and they are likely due to the approximate anisotropic scattering matrices determined by scalar flux weighting. The anisotropic scattering cross sections were alternatively generated using the MC2-3 code and merged with the SERPENT cross sections. The mixed cross section set consistently reduced the errors in k-eff, assembly powers, and nuclide densities. For example, in the 2-D calculation with P3 scattering order, the k-eff error was reduced from 634 pcm to -223 pcm. The maximum error in assembly power was reduced from 2.8% to 0.8% and the RMS error was reduced from 1.4% to 0.4%. The maximum error in the nuclide densities at the end of 12-month depletion that occurred in 237Np was reduced from 3.4% to 1.5%. The errors of the other nuclides are also reduced consistently, for example, from 1.1% to 0.1% for 235U, from 2.2% to 0.7% for 238Pu, and from 1.6% to 0.2% for 241Pu. These results indicate that the scalar flux weighted anisotropic scattering cross sections of SERPENT may not be adequate for application to fast reactors where anisotropic scattering is important.
