As computer technology has been rapidly advanced, geographic information system (GIS) is recently used in many disciplines. In this study, for a model area in Seoul, seismic hazard potential relating to site effects, which are influenced by the subsurface geotechnical conditions, was estimated using the GIS tool. The distribution of pre-existing borehole drilling data in Seoul metropolitan area was examined for the regional estimation of site-specific seismic responses at the model area. Spatial geo-layers across the entire model area were predicted by constructing a GIS-based geotechnical information system (GTIS). A microzonation of site period $(T_G)$ for estimating site-specific seismic responses at the model area was performed within the GTIS. The spatial microzoning map of $T_G$ indicated seismic vulnerability of two- to four-storied buildings in the model area. Furthermore, a site classification map for determining the design ground motion was established based on the $T_G$ within the GTIS. This informed that most of location in the model area was categorized into current site classes C and D. This seismic microzonation framework for the model area could be applicable particularly in the entire Seoul metropolitan area based on the pre-existing borehole data.

In this study, the load capacities and behaviors of a shotcrete member with steel supports, as composite member, are investigated numerically by using a fiber section element. The cross section of a shotcrete lining with steel support is divided into a bundle of fibers, which are allocated nonlinear stress-strain relations and used for determining internal forces. To verify the used approach of the finite element method for shotcrete with steel supports, the load-displacement relations of shotcrete lining obtained by numerical analysis are compared with existing experimental results and are analyzed with the stress distribution of the shotcrete and steel support obtained numerically. As a result, it is shown that the proposed approach can predict the load capacities of each material and the overall nonlinear behavior of shotcrete lining with steel supports. The change of location of the neutral axis and the flexural resistance ratio of each material are also derived from the stress distribution of the cross section of the shotcrete lining with steel supports. From the results, it is concluded that the flexural resistance performance of steel support should be considered in shotcrete lining design.
Groundwater pumping from a well has different impacts on streamflow depletion because hydraulic properties of the aquifer and the stream bed differ depending on its location. Therefore, quantitative assessment of streamflow depletion due to each groundwater pumping with different well locations is needed for the effective groundwater development and streamflow management. In this study, a watershed-based surface water and groundwater integrated model, SWAT-MODFLOW was used to assess the streamflow depletion near stream reach due to groundwater pumping from a well located within the Sinduncheon watershed. The arbitrary 50 wells among the currently used groundwater pumping wells were selected within the study area and the streamflow responses to each groundwater pumping were simulated at nearby and downstream reaches. In particular, the applicability of the Stream Depletion Factor (SDF) and Stream Bed Factor (SBF), which are widely used for evaluating the degree of streamflow depletion due to groundwater pumping, was evaluated. The simulated results demonstrated that the streamflow depletion rate divided by the pumping rate significantly differ depending on well locations and distance between well and stream, showing a wide range of values from below 20% to above 90%. From the simulated results, it was found out that the SDF or the SBF can be a partial referred value but not an absolute criterion in determining whether a pumping well has a great impact on streamflow depletion or not.
The purpose of this study was to determine the present teaching competency level and the educational needs of electricity electronic communication technical teachers. The population was electricity electronic communication technical teachers, 750 teachers were sampled for this study. A survey questionnaire consisted of teaching competencies scale including 3 domains based on Performance-Based Teacher Education Modules. The professional competencies scale consisted of 5-point Likert-type 30 items for them to rate the importance and also to indicate the teaching competency level. A questionnaire was mailed to the sample and 443 returned questionnaires were analyzed after data cleaning. The educational needs of teachers were calculated by using the Borich's needs assessment formula. The findings of this study were as follows. 1) electricity electronic communication technical teachers perceived all the thirty competencies as highly important ones. 2) They perceived that their current teaching competency level was just beyond the ordinary level but was lower than the good level. 3) The highest needs were 'determining learning level & interests of students', 'applying problem solving techniques', 'reconstructing lesson contents', 'establishing lesson objectives'. 4) They have a different level of educational needs on the competencies according to their gender, terminal education level, year of teaching experience, practical work experience, school type(national public school/private school), and school location.

Climate change is significantly affecting coastal areas, and its impacts are expected to intensify. Recent studies on climate change adaptation and risk assessment in coastal regions increasingly integrate the concepts of recovery resilience and vulnerability. The aim of this study is to develop a measurement model for coastal hazard recovery resilience in the context of climate change adaptation. Before constructing the measurement model, a comprehensive literature review was conducted on coastal hazard recovery resilience, establishing a conceptual framework that included operational definitions for vulnerability and recovery resilience, along with several feedback mechanisms. The measurement model for coastal hazard recovery resilience comprised four metrics (MRV, LRV, RTSPV, and ND) and a Coastal Resilience Index (CRI). The developed indices were applied to domestic coastal erosion cases, and regional analyses were performed based on the index grades. The results revealed that the four recovery resilience metrics provided insights into the diverse characteristics of coastal erosion recovery resilience at each location. Mapping the composite indices of coastal resilience indicated that the areas along the East Sea exhibited relatively lower coastal erosion recovery resilience than the West and South Sea regions. The developed recovery resilience measurement model can serve as a tool for discussions on post-adaptation strategies and is applicable for determining policy priorities among different vulnerable regional groups.

With the fast development in wireless communications and vehicular technologies, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have enabled to deliver data between vehicles. Recently, VANETs introduce a Vehicular Cloud (VC) model for collaborating to share and use resources of vehicles to create value-added services. To construct a VC, a vehicle should search vehicles that intend to provide their own resource. The single-hop search cannot search enough provider vehicles due to a small coverage and non-line-of-sights of communications. On the other hand, the multi-hop search causes very high traffics for large coverage searching and frequent connection breakages. Recently, many Roadside Units (RSUs) have been deployed on roads to collect the information of vehicles in their own coverages and to connect them to Internet. Thus, we propose a RSU-aided vehicular resource search and cloud construction mechanism in VANETS. In the proposed mechanism, a RSU collects the information of location and mobility of vehicles and selects provider vehicles enabled to provide resources needed for constructing a VC of a requester vehicle based on the collected information. In the proposed mechanism, the criteria for determining provider vehicles to provide resources are the connection duration between each candidate vehicle and the requester vehicle, the resource size of each candidate vehicle, and its connection starting time to the requester vehicle. Simulation results verify that the proposed mechanism achieves better performance than the existing mechanism.
Purpose: To evaluate the role of surgical clips and scars in determining electron boost field for early stage breast cancer undergoing conserving surgery and postoperative radiotherapy and to provide an optimal method in drawing the boost field. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients who had $4{\sim}7$ surgical clips in the excision cavity were selected for this study. The depth informations were obtained to determine electron energy by measuring the distance from the skin to chest wall (SCD) and to the clip implanted in the most posterior area of tumor bed. Three different electron fields were outlined on a simulation film. The radiological tumor bed was determined by connecting all the clips implanted during surgery Clinical field (CF) was drawn by adding 3 cm margin around surgical scar. Surgical field (SF) was drawn by adding 2 cm margin around surgical clips and an Ideal field (IF) was outlined by adding 2 cm margin around both scar and clips. These fields were digitized into our planning system to measure the area of each separate field. The areas of the three different electron boost fields were compared. Finally, surgical clips were contoured on axial CT images and dose volume histogram was plotted to investigate 3-dimensional coverage of the clips. Results : The average depth difference between SCD and the maximal clip location was $0.7{\pm}0.55cm$. Greater difference of 5 mm or more was seen in 12 patients. The average shift between the borders of scar and clips were 1.7 1.2, 1.2, and 0.9 cm in superior, inferior, medial, and lateral directions, respectively. The area of the CF was larger than SF and IF in 6y20 patients. In 15/20 patients, the area difference between SF and if was less than 5%. One to three clips were seen outside the CF in 15/20 patients. In addition, dosimetrically inadequate coverage of clips (less than 80% of prescribed dose) were observed in 17/20 patients when CF was used as the boost field. Conclusion: The electron field determined from clinical scar underestimates the tumor bed in superior-inferior direction significantly and thereby underdosing the tissue at risk. The electron field obtained from surgical clips alone dose not cover the entire scar properly As a consequence, our technique, which combines the surgical clips and clinical scars in determining electron boost field, was proved to be effective in minimizing the geographical miss as well as normal tissue complications.
Bus headway plays an important role not only in determining the passenger waiting time and bus service quality, but also in influencing the bus operation cost and passenger demand. Previous research on headway control has considered only an hourly difference in the distribution of ridership between peak and non-peak hours. However, this approach is too simple to help manage ridership demand fluctuations in a short time scale; thus passengers' waiting cost will be generated when ridership demand exceeds the supply of bus services. Moreover, bus ridership demand varies by station location and traffic situation. To address this concern, we propose a headway control algorithm for minimizing the waiting time cost by using Smart Card data. We also provide proof of the convergence of the algorithm to the desired headway allocation using a set of preconditions of political waiting time guarantees and available fleet constraints. For model verification, the data from the No. 143 bus line in Seoul were used. The results show that the total savings in cost totaled approximately 600,000 won per day when we apply the time-value cost of waiting time. Thus, we can expect that cost savings will be more pronounced when the algorithm is applied to larger systems.
Bladder cancer is a relatively common cancer type, with a high recurrence rate, that can be often encountered in the imaging study. Accurate diagnosis and staging have a significant impact on determining treatment and evaluating prognosis. Bladder cancer has been evaluated by transurethral resection of bladder tumor for clinical staging and treatment, but it is often understaged when compared with final pathologic result by radical cystectomy. If the location, size, presence of muscle invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and presence of upper urinary tract cancer can be accurately diagnosed and evaluated in an imaging study, it can be treated and managed more appropriately. For an accurate diagnosis, radiologists who evaluate the images must be aware of the characteristics of bladder cancer as well as its types, imaging techniques, and limitations of imaging studies. Recent developments in MRI with functional imaging have improved the quality of bladder imaging and the evaluation of cancer. In addition, the Vesical Imaging Reporting and Data System was published to objectively assess the possibility for muscle invasion of cancer. Radiologists need to know the types of bladder cancer treatment and how to evaluate the changes after treatment. In this article, the characteristics of bladder urothelial carcinoma, various imaging studies, and findings are reviewed.
