  • The purpose of this study is to present a method for determining the k most vital arcs in the maximum flow problem using a heuristic method. Generally, the problem which determine the k most vital arcs in maximum flow problem has known as NP-hard. Therefore, in this study we propose a method for determining all the k most vital arcs in maximum flow problem using a genetic algorithm. The proposed algorithm found all alternatives within shorter time than other heuristic methods. The method presented in this study can determine all the alternatives when there exists other alternative solutions.

  • Human body structure can be considered as a complex of many elements such as head, chest, arm, leg and etc. As the correct classification of human body is basic for the design of all the materials used by mankind and since we cannot consider all the elements simultaneously, there is a need of extracting a Sew elements which can be "most" representative of all those elements. This paper describes the procedure of determining those representative body dimensions utilizing the data obtained from a national project carried out in 1976. Also the relationship of the above determined body dimensions to the other commonly reference body dimensions are given in linear forms.ear forms.

  • A linear method for determining three-dimensional motion of a rigid object is presented. In this method, two three-dimensional line correspondences are used. By using three-dimensional information of the features and observing that the rotation is unique regardless of the translation vector, the two components of motion parameters (rotation and translation) are computed separately. Also in this paper, the solution is given without a scale factor which is necessary in other methods that use only the two-dimensional projective constraints.

  • The probabilistic production cost is calculated by the Expected Incremental Generation Cost Curve(EIGC) method based on the multi-state and multi-block operating conditions. For this, A new algorithm for determining production cost by the EIGC and the generation availability curve (GAC) had been developed in order to realize better economic olad dispatch and better reliability for power system operation. The simpler method for determining the EIGC and the GAC is proposed for convenience and saving in computation time.

  • This paper proposes a practical method for determining the most economical steel ratio in RC flexural members. The costs of individual material and labor are considered. Then, an equation for determining the optimal steel ratio is proposes. It was found that a relevant steel ratio is recommended to be 0.95~1.0% for designing singly reinforced rectangular beam.

  • This study examines factors determining contemporary Chinese households' food away from home (FAFH) expenditures using Becker's household production theory. Data came from the 2000 urban household survey in Guangdong Province, collected by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China. It was revealed that the contemporary urban Chinese wives also substitute their household work by time-saving product, FAFH, as Becker's household production theory postulated. This suggests the important role of time-value (opportunity cost) in determining household FAFH expenditure across the cultures.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the method to determine the optimal stop time of HVAC using Artificial Neural Network model, one of the learning methods. For this, the performance of determining the stop time of HVAC for unexperienced learning data was evaluated, and time interval for measurement of input data and permissible error needed for practical application of ANN model were presented using the results of daily simulation.

  • Lee, et al. (1999) proposed a unique but universal robust objective function replacing the square objective function for the radial basis function network, and demonstrated some advantages. In this article, the robust objective function in Lee, et al. (1999) is adapted for a multilayer perceptron (MLP). The shape of the robust objective function is formed by the scale parameter. Another method of determining a proper value of that parameter is proposed.

  • We are concerned in the estimation of lifetime distribution of a component having a few observed failure data and we demonstrate that we can use the maximum likelihood estimation utilizing the censored data when the number of components in use is quite large. Weibull distribution is assumed for the lifetime and a simple estimation procedure is introduced. We also propose the method of determining the optimal number of spares required for a specified period without introducing cost functions. The proposed methods are applied to the photon stop and the water-cooled flange which are major components in Pohang Light Source.
