Accuracy Improvement Scheme for Location Awareness based on UWB system (UWB 기반 위치인식 정확도 향상 기법)

  • In recent years, LBS(Location Based Service) is applied in many different fields. Therefore, various location-aware schemes have been studied. In the location awareness system using time dependent algorithm, TOA(Time of Arrival) or TDOA(Time Difference of Arrival) algorithm, distortion of a signal by AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) and multi-path effects cause the degradation of location awareness performance. In this paper, the unexpected noise is eliminated by averaging multiple pulses in order to overcome the degradation of performance. Also, we research the technique for improving the performance of the location awareness by detecting direct-path signal with adjusting threshold.

Target Signal Simulation in Synthetic Underwater Environment for Performance Analysis of Monostatic Active Sonar (수중합성환경에서 단상태 능동소나의 성능분석을 위한 표적신호 모의)

  • Active sonar has been commonly used to detect targets existing in the shallow water. When a signal is transmitted and returned back from a target, it has been distorted by various properties of acoustic channel such as multipath arrivals, scattering from rough sea surface and ocean bottom, and refraction by sound speed structure, which makes target detection difficult. It is therefore necessary to consider these channel properties in the target signal simulation in operational performance system of active sonar. In this paper, a monostatic active sonar system is considered, and the target echo, reverberation, and ambient noise are individually simulated as a function of time, and finally summed to simulate a total received signal. A 3-dimensional highlight model, which can reflect the target features including the shape, position, and azimuthal and elevation angles, has been applied to each multipath pair between source and target to simulate the target echo signal. The results are finally compared to those obtained by the algorithm in which only direct path is considered in target signal simulation.

  • This paper reviews several multi-source localization methods which estimate ITDs based on zero crossings (ZCs). Employing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation from ITD variances, these ZC-based source localization methods are more robust to diffuse noise than the cross-correlation (CC)-based one with less computational complexity. In order to take reverberant environments into account, two approaches detect intervals which dominantly contain direct-path components from sources to sensors because they may effectively provide reliable ITDDs corresponding to source directions. One accomplishes the detection by comparing the original and cepstral-prefiltering-processed envelopes, and the other searches sudden increase of acoustic energy by considering typical characteristics of acoustic reverberation. Experiments for comparison of these methods demonstrate that the approach with energy-based detection efficiently achieves multi-source localization in reverberant environments.

Wideband Optical Phase Conjugator using HNL-DSF in WDM Systems with Path-Averaged Intensity Approximation Mid-Span Spectral Inversion (경로 평균 강도 근사 기법의 MSSI를 채택한 WDM 시스템에서 HNL-DSF를 갖는 광대역 광 위상 공액기)

  • We investigated the optimum pump light power compensating distorted WDM signal due to both chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation (SPM). The considered system is $3{\times}40$ Gbps intensity modulation direct detection (IM/DD) WDM transmission system with path-averaged intensity approximation (PAIA) mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) as compensation method. This system have highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) as nonlinear medium of optical phase conjugator (OPC) in the mid-way of total transmission line. We confirmed that HNL-DSF is an useful nonlinear medium in OPC for wideband WDM transmission, and the excellent compensation is obtained when the pump light power of HNL-DSF OPC was selected to equalize the conjugated light power into the second half fiber section with the input WDM signal light power depending on total transmission length. By this approach, it is verified the possibility to realize a long-haul high capacities WDM system by using PAIA MSSI compensation method, which have HNL-DSF OPC with optimal pump light power depending on transmission length.

  • In this paper, we have designed the VHDL module of DS/SS QPSK wireless modem processor for digital data communication. The spread spectrum method is used for modern processor, because this method guarantees good frequency efficiency and higher security. Also, it guarantees good performance in digital communication system under multi-path interferences. The differential encoder and decoder are used for simple circuit composition in the signal detection. For the synchronization of receiver, matched filter and power detector are used.   • This paper presents a vector network analysis system for 2-port scattering parameters of microwave devices using some basic microwave instruments/devices such as signal generators, vector voltmeter, directional couplers and frequency mixers. The analytical model and implementation method for scattering parameter measurements - which can replace the vector network analyzers - are presented. The performance of the implemented system is evaluated through 1- and 2-port scattering parameter measurements, respectively. The vector volt signals which determine the scattering parameters are detected in two distinct methods depending on the frequency band of interests; a direct-detection method with a single signal generator and vector voltmeter for relatively low band and a heterodyne method to frequency down-mix associated with an additional signal source as well as frequency mixers for high band are used, respectively. Using these two methods, scattering parameters of UHF and X bands are evaluated and their performances are verified through a comercial vector network analyzer.

  • In this paper, we investigated the degree of compensation for WDM channel signal distortion due to chromatic dispersion, self phase modulation(SPM) and cross phase modulation(XPM). The considered system is 120 Gbps (3${\times}$40 Gbps) intensity modulation direct detection(IM/DD) WDM transmission system with path-averaged intensity approximation(PAIA) mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) as compensation method. This system have highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber(HNL-DSF) as nonlinear medium in optical phase conjugator(OPC). We use 1 dB eye opening peralty(EOP) in order to evaluate the characteristics of compensation for distorted WDM channels. We confirmed that improvement of transmission distance and performance is achieved by MSSI method to distorted long-haul IM/DD WDM channels due to chromatic dispersion, SPM and XPM. And in the aspect of compensation for distorted pulse due to XPM, the MSSI method is effective to IM/DD WDM transmission system with high fiber dispersion coefficient.

  • In this paper, we analyze the I/Q imbalances effects at the WiBro uplimk when using direct-conversion RF transceiver. If I/Q imbalance exists, the transmit signal is spread over two sbcarriers. As a result, phenomenon of performance reducing is produced. Contrary to OFDM system in which one user uses all subcarrier, symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned other users in OFDMA system. I/Q imbalances elements can't be estimated such a conventional allocation method of tiles in subchannel and compensated. In order to solve the problem, We propose a new method in order that symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned one user. If novel method is applied, we can estimate I/Q imbalances and compensate distortion received signal. As a result, we can obtain a performance similar performance when I/Q imbalances is not existed. Also, if proper detection methods are used, we get the effect of performance improvement, because of diversity gain what is happened due to combining I/Q imbalances with multi path fading channel.

And the compensation degree of distorted WDM channels due to chromatic dispersion, SPM and XPM becomes better stable as dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes higher.
