Motor imagery based Brain-computer Interface(BCI), which has recently attracted attention, is the technique for decoding the user's voluntary motor intention using Electroencephalography(EEG). For classifying the motor imagery, event-related desynchronization(ERD), which is the phenomenon of EEG voltage drop at sensorimotor area in ${\mu}$-band(8-13Hz), has been generally used but this method are not free from the performance degradation of the BCI system because EEG has low spatial resolution and shows different ERD-appearing band according to users. Common spatial pattern(CSP) was proposed to solve the low spatial resolution problem but it has a disadvantage of being very sensitive to frequency-band selection. Discriminative filter bank common spatial pattern(DFBCSP) tried to solve the frequency-band selection problem by using the Fisher ratio of the averaged EEG signal power and establishing discriminative filter bank(DFB) which only includes the feature frequency-band. However, we found that DFB might not include the proper filters showing the spatial pattern of ERD. To solve this problem, we apply a band-selection process using CSP feature vectors and linear discriminant analysis to DFBCSP instead of the averaged EEG signal power. The filter selection results and the classification accuracies of the existing and the proposed methods show that the CSP feature is more effective than signal power feature.
Most services need to have authentication protocols to verify users' eligibility in the network environment. For this, a lot of user authentication protocols have been researched and developed. Two of them, SPMA and I-SPMA protocols, introduced the lack of mutual authentication and vulnerability to the reply attack of the prior protocols and suggested revised protocols. Nevertheless, these protocols did not mention about the critical problem caused when the server and the client lose synchronization on the secret information between them. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the security characteristics of the existing protocols and prove the vulnerability to the synchronization of the protocols.

신체 부위를 움직이는 상상을 할 때, 일반적으로 뇌의 감각 및 운동 피질 영역에서 특정 주파수 대역의 EEG(Electroencephalography) 신호의 세기가 감소하거나 증가하는 ERD(Event-Related Desynchronization)/ERS(Event-Related Synchronization) 현상이 발생한다.

In this paper, a new Dual Round-Robin (DRR) based iterative SLIP (iSLIP) scheduling scheme, called DiSLIP is proposed for IP switching systems. By using DRR followed by iSLIP, DiSLIP can exploit desynchronization effect of DRR and high performance of iSLIP, while the drawbacks of two schemes are minimized. 'Through computer simulation, we verify the switch throughput and total waiting time of the proposed scheme under nonuniform and correlated self-similar traffic. Moreover, the proposed scheme can considerably reduce the complexity of parallel matching logics compared to iSLIP. From the result, we observe that the proposed scheme outperforms DRR on throughput as well as iSLIP schemes on complextiy.

The fast Fourier transform (FFT) is a good method to estimate spectral density, but the frequency resolution is limited to the sampling window, and thus the precise characteristics of the spectral density for short signals are not clear. To solve the limitation, a multiple band-pass filter was introduced to estimate the precise time course of the spectral density for flash visual evoked potentials (VEPs). Signals were recorded during -200 and 600 ms using balanced noncephalic electrodes, and sampled at 1 K Hz in 12 bits. With 1 Hz and 10 ms resolutions, spectral density was estimated between 10 and 100 Hz. Background powers at the alpha-and beta-bands were high over the posterior scalp, and powers around 200ms were evoked at the same bands over the same region, corresponding to P110 and N165 of VEPs. normalized's spectral density showed evoked powers around 200 ms and suppressed powers following the evoked powers over the posterior scalp. The evoked powers above the 20Hz band were not statistically significant. However, the gamma band was significantly evoked intra-individually; details in the gamma bands were varied among the subjects. Details of spectral density were complicated even for a simple task such as watching flashes; both synchronization and desynchronization occurred with different distributions and different time courses.
There are several factors which are more likely to have sleep disorders in fertile women with menstruation than adult men. Menstrual cycle plays an important role in them. We describe herein the overview about the association of menstrual cycle and sleep disorders by viewing the interactions of menstrual cycle and circadian rhythm. We review how menstrual cycle affects sleep-wake cycle by reviewing menstrual cycle and estrous cycle to understand these interactions. Menstrual cycle and estrous cycle are mainly affected by hormonal cycle and light-dark cycle, respectively and they are generally determined in monthly rhythm and annual rhythm, respectively. The determination of estrous cycle is also affected by cyclic changes of hormones besides light-dark cycle. Although sleep-wake cycle almost alternates according to estrous cycle in non-primate mammals, it is hardly affected by menstrual cycle in primate mammals as compared with estrous cycle. But menstrual cycle affects sleep-wake cycle via desynchronization of sleep-wake cycle and temperature rhythm. The decrease of amplitude and phasic change during luteal phase in the daily fluctuation of body core temperature can partially contribute to the induction of sleep disorders in fertile women. In addition to this, premenstrual syndrome which nearly happens during luteal phase commonly have sleep problems. Therefore, we suggest that menstrual cycle and PMS can partially contribute the increase of sleep disorders in fertile women.
Vortex-induced vibrations are a type of flow-induced vibrations caused by alternating lift forces. With increasing demand for renewable energy, the application of vortex-induced vibrations to renewable energy has been widely studied. Vortex-induced vibrations for aquatic clean energy (VIVACE) converter is a renewable energy device that generates electricity from rivers or oceans using vortex-induced vibrations. To increase the design life and power harnessing capacity of the VIVACE converter, the estimation of fluid forces due to vortex-induced vibrations is essential. Herein, vortex-induced vibrations were experimentally tested, and their amplitude and frequency response were measured. The amplitude results showed four different branches: initial branch, upper branch, lower branch, and desynchronization range. According to the fluid force coefficient results, the maximum lift coefficient occurred at the upper branch. Additionally, a mathematical model is proposed to estimate fluid forces due to vortex-induced vibrations without using measurement devices. This mathematical model enables the estimation of fluid force coefficients and phase lag using amplitude and frequency response of vortex-induced vibrations.
Classification of human thought is an emerging research field that may allow us to understand human brain functions and further develop advanced brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. In the present study, we introduce a new approach to classify various mental states from noninvasive electrophysiological recordings of human brain activity. We utilized the full spatial and spectral information contained in the electroencephalography (EEG) signals recorded while a subject is performing a specific mental task. For this, the EEG data were converted into a 2D spatiospectral pattern map, of which each element was filled with 1, 0, and -1 reflecting the degrees of event-related synchronization (ERS) and event-related desynchronization (ERD). We evaluated the similarity between a current (input) 2D pattern map and the template pattern maps (database), by taking the inner-product of pattern matrices. Then, the current 2D pattern map was assigned to a class that demonstrated the highest similarity value. For the verification of our approach, eight participants took part in the present study; their EEG data were recorded while they performed four different cognitive imagery tasks. Consistent ERS/ERD patterns were observed more frequently between trials in the same class than those in different classes, indicating that these spatiospectral pattern maps could be used to classify different mental states. The classification accuracy was evaluated for each participant from both the proposed approach and a conventional mental state classification method based on the inter-hemispheric spectral power asymmetry, using the leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV). An average accuracy of 68.13% (${\pm}9.64%$) was attained for the proposed method; whereas an average accuracy of 57% (${\pm}5.68%$) was attained for the conventional method (significance was assessed by the one-tail paired $t$-test, $p$ < 0.01), showing that the proposed simple classification approach might be one of the promising methods in discriminating various mental states.

The Performance research about EEG-BCI algorithm in BCI-naive subjects is very important for evaluating the applicability to the public. We analyzed the result of the performance evaluation experiment about the EEG-BCI algorithm in BCI-naive subjects on three different aspects. The EEG-BCI algorithm used in this paper is composed of the common spatial pattern(CSP) and the least square linear classifier. CSP is used for obtaining the characteristic of event related desynchronization, and the least square linear classifier classifies the motor imagery EEG data of the left hand or right hand. The performance evaluation experiments about EEG-BCI algorithm is conducted for 40 men and women whose age are 23.87${\pm}$2.47. The performance evaluation about EEG-BCI algorithm in BCI-naive subjects is analyzed in terms of the accuracy, the relation between the information transfer rate and the accuracy, and the performance changes when the different types of cue were used in the training session and testing session. On the result of experiment, BCI-naive group has about 20% subjects whose accuracy exceed 0.7. And this results of the accuracy were not effected significantly by the types of cue. The Information transfer rate is in the inverse proportion to the accuracy. And the accuracy shows the severe deterioration when the motor imagery is less then 2 seconds.

In this paper, we measured EEG signals on frontal and Broca's area when subjects imagine to speak A or B or C or D. These signals were analyzed by Event-Related Spectral Perturbation (ERSP), Inter-Trial Coherence (ITC) and Event Related Potential (ERP) methods. As a result, high coherences were showed at 1$\sim$13Hz during 0$\sim$300ms after the stimuli of each character and P300 was seen clearly and there are several differences between the ERP results. However, unlike the motivation of this study to classify the characters, it is impossible that we can classify each intention or each character cause these differences. Nevertheless, this paper suggest an application system using this results so BCI can provide various services.
