  • In this study, I-type girders, main members of a steel composite bridge, are designed by Load and Resistance Factor Design method as well as Allowable Stress Design method. The width, height web thickness and flange thickness of main girders are set as design variables. The design program connects optimization program ADS, which is coded with FORTRAN, and a main program coded with $C^{++}$. In this study, it is shown that in this particular steel composite bridge, the design by The Load and Resistance Factor Design method is more economical than that by The Allowable Stress Design method.d.

  • The powder core, conventionally fabricated from iron particles coated with insulator, showed large eddy current loss under high frequency, because of small specific resistance. To overcome the eddy current loss, the increase in the specific resistance of powder cores was needed. In this study, copper oxide coating onto electrically conductive iron particles was performed using a planetary ball mill to increase the specific resistance. Coating factors were optimized by the Response surface methodology. The independent variables were the CuO mass fraction, mill revolution number, coating time, ball size, ball mass and sample mass. The response variable was the specific resistance. The optimization of six factors by the fractional factorial design indicated that CuO mass fraction, mill revolution number, and coating time were the key factors. The levels of these three factors were selected by the three-factors full factorial design and steepest ascent method. The steepest ascent method was used to approach the optimum range for maximum specific resistance. The Box-Behnken design was finally used to analyze the response surfaces of the screened factors for further optimization. The results of the Box-Behnken design showed that the CuO mass fraction and mill revolution number were the main factors affecting the efficiency of coating process. As the CuO mass fraction increased, the specific resistance increased. In contrast, the specific resistance increased with decreasing mill revolution number. The process optimization results revealed a high agreement between the experimental and the predicted data ($Adj-R^2=0.944$). The optimized CuO mass fraction, mill revolution number, and coating time were 0.4, 200 rpm, and 15 min, respectively. The measured value of the specific resistance of the coated pellet under the optimized conditions of the maximum specific resistance was $530k{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.

  • Factorial design method is applied to investigate the effects of various factors simultaneously rather than to conduct a series of single-factor experiment. As the results, frost resistance of the concrete specimens, in both W/C ratio of 0.28 and 0.35, was highly affected by the type of coarse aggregate that is, andesite produced more durable concrete than the limestone. Durability factor of the specimens, with W/C ratio of 0.28, which were demolded after I day and transferred to the curing room was higher than those demolded after 2 days. This stated the efficiency of the high early curing in high strength concrete.

  • TFT-LCD module with thin, small and layered structure makes its shock analysis very difficult and complicated. As TFT-LCD becomes more thinner, it is more difficult to assure its required shock resistance. Recently, the drop/impact simulation using the commercial explicit dynamic analysis software such as LS-DYNA3D is actively applied to assess the shock characteristics of TFT-LCD. In this study, the effects of analysis parameters and design modifications in the drop/impact simulation are carefully studied. the reliability of the present analysis results can be assured through the experimental verification.

  • This research was designed 700 level power MOSFET for smart LED driver ICs package. And we analyzed electrical characteristics of the power MOSFET as like breakdown voltage, on-resistance and threshold voltage. Because this research is important optimal design for smart LED ICs package, we designed power MOSFET with design and process parameter. As a result of this research, we obtained $60{\mu}m$ N-drift layer depth, 791.29 V breakdown voltage, $0.248{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ on resistance and 3.495 V threshold voltage. We will use effectively this device for smart LED driver ICs package.

  • In this study reviewed the validity of the estimated optimum trim by the numerical analysis. For this purpose, the numerical analysis of the trim optimization for 6500TEU container carrier and capesize bulk carrier were carried out using Star-CCM+, which results were compared with the results of model tests. The reliability of results of the numerical analysis was confirmed via comparing the resistance determined by the numerical analysis and model test. The performance of self-propulsion at each trim conditions were estimated using the calculated resistance by numerical analysis. The BHP at each trim condition were calculated by estimated performance of self-propulsion, which trend of results were confirmed similar trend of result of model test.

  • In this study, the fire resistance performance of the concrete-filled steel tube (CFT) columns and thin steel-plate composite (TSC) beams installed at a 20-story office building were designed using a performance-based structural fire design. Because of the lack of any specific provisions in the building code and guidelines for structural engineers about the performance-based approach, the only prescriptive approach has been selected for designing fire-resistant structures in Korea. To evaluate the fire resistance performance of the CFT columns and TSC beams, finite element analysis verified by the experimental results studied by several researchers was conducted with ABAQUS. From the fire scenario, the temperature distributions of the CFT columns and TSC beams were found via finite element analysis and the behaviors of the CFT columns and TSC beams were investigated in the structural field based on the temperature distribution.

  • In the present study, the optimization of the main particulars of a ship using AI-based design search techniques was investigated. For the design search techniques, the SHERPA algorithm by HEEDS was applied, and CFD analysis using STAR-CCM+ was applied for the calculation of resistance performance. Main particulars were automatically transformed by modifying the main particulars of the ship at the stage of preprocessing using JAVA script and Python. Small catamaran was chosen for the present study, and the main dimensions of the length, breadth, draft of demi-hull, and distance between demi-hulls were considered as design variables. Total resistance was considered as an objective function, and the range of displaced volume considering the arrangement of the outfitting system was chosen as the constraint. As a result, the changes in the individual design variables were within ±5%, and the total resistance of the optimized hull form was decreased by 11% compared with that of the existing hull form. Throughout the present study, the resistance performance of small catamaran could be improved by the optimization of the main dimensions without direct modification of the hull shape. In addition, the application of optimization using design search techniques is expected for the improvement in the resistance performance of a ship.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore conquest plans of the barrier and resistance in innovation management. This paper focuses to understand the model of innovation that reflects adoption process stages and identify the factors that drive the resistance of consumers. Whenever organizations try to plan and implement some kind of innovation in organizations, they confront resistance in many ways. By understanding innovation resistance, organizations can not only design better innovations but can develop strategies to reduce resistance. Thus they accelerate innovation. Understanding the factors that drive the innovation resistance has important implications for both theoretical development and managerial action. These results indicate that people resist innovation strongly when it betrays their value, needs and beliefs or when they felt the pressure on self-conviction and mental risk, loss, and lack of knowledge.

  • This study evaluated whether substantial airflow resistance changes occurred by changing jaw position in normal and snoring subjects. A case-control design was utilized to assess group differences. Subjects included 11 snoring patients and 10 non-snoring subjects. Airway resistance was assessed using a whole body plethysmograph. Subjects in this study had their mouth opening standardized to a position of 7 mm of vertical separation and the resistance was measured under the following conditions; normal jaw position and 2/3 maximum protrusive jaw position. The results were as follows : 1. The airway resistance was higher in snoring group than in non-snoring group. 2. Both groups had a significant decrease in their airflow resistance upon jaw protrusion. In conclusion, these data document that airflow resistance can be significantly influenced by jaw positioning. Moving the jaw in a protrusive position produced reduction of resistance.
