  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how to develop the Korean textile pattern design that can respond properly to the demand of consumers. This is very important to maintain a steady growth of the Korean textile and clothing industry. To serve this purpose, this study conduct surveys (through questionnaires) of European textile design industries centering around Italian textile design industry. The survey result shows that in most European textile pattern design studios, the "repeat" process is not necessarily considered as a part of the textile pattern design process and, in fact, the price of textile pattern design with the "repeat" is 30% higher than the price of textile pattern design without the "repeat". The survey result also exhibits that the inclusion of the "repeat" in the textile pattern design process could limit the ability of expressing creative ideas. As a proposal for the development of Korean textile pattern design, this study suggests that the "repeat" process should be separated from the textile design process and specialized as an independent area of the pattern design.

  • The various software engineering techniques have been appeared in order to cope with the software crisis since 1980's. Currently, the research against the techniques likes the Design pattern, Component which improve the software's re-use are spread out. Also S/W Development Process are interested intensively which attempts the quality and a increasing productivity of software development with the basic policy. The design pattern is the solution against the problem which occurs repeat in a specific area. Many design pattern are developed and researched, but the method which accommodates the developed design pattern efficiently in the phase of analysis and design software development process is not good enough, so it is the actual applying technique is difficult. In this paper we suggest and the “UML components+” which is a efficient component development process from customizing EJB based the J2EE using the “UML Components” which is a component development methodology. Applying J2EE pattern efficiently with UML components+, there is a possibility of efficiency in the component development based pattern.

  • The purpose of this study is to link traditional patterns to mordern clothing. Of all the traditional patterns, the fish pattern was chosen for use during the development of a creative one-piece design for woman and shirts design for man. This study is based upon document searches, including research papers. Through these searches, it investigates the symbolic meaning, formation of the fish pattern and the creative design process. Based on this investigation, the study attempts to modernize the fish pattern and apply the fish patterns to the design of a one-piece dress and shirts. The design procedure includes three sub-processes: selection, arrangement and color-scheme. The selection process, the form of the pattern was edited using Adobe Photoshop. The arrangement of the pattern was made through the checklist conception method, containing the following functions: expand, reset, repeat, omission and dismantling. For the color-scheme of the pattern, Paul Klee(1879-1940)work was selected, and the colors in his work were adopted when dyeing the rest of the one-piece dress and shirts as well as fish features. In conclusion, six designs of the one-pieces dress and shirts were created by using one of Korea's traditional patterns-the fish pattern. This kind of study not only let the world know about the unique beauty of nations but also helps to inspire people who has a profession in design, by suggesting design development process based on design competitiveness improvement factor from fusion of tradition and modern.

  • In this paper, I made a comparative study of design process of Kuryong-Ri, Keumsong-Myun, Chechon City, Chungbuk Province which is one of rural communities in Korea and framing process of master plan for Hama street at Sirahama town on Wakayama Ken, famous hot-bath resort in Japan. Both processes have common points to adopt identical design philosophy and method called 'Pattern Language'. The aim of this study to provide valuable reference for applying at community design by the people in the future, though analyzing common and unlike points, laying stress on the process of user-participation rather than its final results. It is possible confirm Pattern Language is effective tool for carrying out community design by the people.

  • Over the past decade, several types of design pattern have been defined in the software engineering area. But these patterns have not been used so often compared with data structure and algorithm. Likewise, methods to select and apply design patterns during analysis, design, and development are not mentioned in CBD methodologies such as CBD96, RUP, and MaRMI III. This paper suggests the process of effectively selecting design patterns which can be applied to analysis, design, and development for development of application software with based on those offered by GoF and J2EE pattern catalogs. It also demonstrates how to effectively pattern-based software and shows differences and relative advantages from RUP by applying the suggested process to the development of aviation job application.

  • Recently, design patterns have been known to be highly effective and practical. Design pattern is a collection of collaborating classes that captures the application independent behavior of system in a particular domain. By using design pattern, the development time and software quality can be greatly increased. However, systematic development process and detailed instructions of building design patterns have not been studied enough. In this paper. we propose practical intranet structure modeling technique that are based on design pattern. The proposed process consists of the four typical software development phases; analysis, navigation, interface, behavior domain design, and each phase is defined as a logical sequence of development tasks. Since the proposed process is based on design pattern foundation, and can be efficiently produced by applying this process.

  • Marbling dyeing technique shows beautiful flowing pattern because the pattern is transferred to the medium by the pigments floating onto the viscous solution base. However, this marbling pattern does not have any reproducibility and the result of accidental pattern formation. Marbling process contains many complicated procedures such as making marbling base, mordanting the medium, and bubble removal with size limitation. Computer changed the many aspects in textile design and digital technique is used in many design production. However, it is impossible to produce marbling pattern with digital drawing. In this research, the digital textile design starting from marbling pattern was developed for digital textile printing. Marbling was done to produce the initial motifs and scanned. Several marbling media such as silk, polyester, and paper were used. Photoshop was used to process and develop textile design based on these marbling motifs. One repeat was developed and various colorways were tried. The developed textile design were printed using DTP.

  • Any design process is interwoven with numerous intermediate design representations and information. On the other hand, designers proceed the design through various activities. It has always been a difficult task to model the design process, yet there are many significant research outputs that explain the design process through the cognitive approaches. This research started from the necessity of an interactive system which externalize the elements of design process in a visual or tangible manner. In order to do so, a design model, specifically a design process representation model was necessary to capture and represent design process. Several concepts such as design issue, design concept, and design form were defined through the empirical studies of design practices. The assumption is that the design process can be effectively captured by the presented system and it can help both designers and tutors review and analyze the design process. It should also help novice designers learn from expert designer's design process patterns. The system represents design process pattern in a interactive graphic environment. It also provides various useful features to enhance the analysis of design process. This paper presents theoretical groundwork and development process of the design process visualizer. The representation model is presented, and the application of the system is reviewed. Discussions on the further development directions include critical evaluation of the system.

  • Microlens patterned micro-mold fabrication method for Light Guiding Plate(LGP), kernel part of LCD-BLU(Back Light Unit), was presented. Instead of erosion dot pattern for LCP optical design, microlens pattern, fabricated by LIGA-reflow process, was applied. Optical pattern design method was also developed not only for negative pattern LGP, but also positive pattern LGP. In order to achieve flow balance during the micro-injection molding process and dimensional accuracy, two LGP pattern was made in one micro-mold.

  • LGP (Light-Guide Panel) of TFT-LCD Backligh/Frontlight is one of the major components which affect on the product quality of LCD. Since the brightness distribution of LGP is sensitive to the process error in manufacturing, the optical characteristics such as reflection and absorption of LGP pattern should be modeled including the process error. LGP is developed by using the fast and reliable design technology, which uses the concept of the inverse-design, makes the model on the characteristics of uncertainty in the manufacturing process, and designs the dispersion pattern analytically without try-and-error by using an artificial intelligence. The PEA(Process-Error-Adaptive) design gives the best solution in handling the process error. The offset of target in feedback system makes such the best pattern design possible that the brightness distribution is nearly same (more than 90%) with target in regardless of the miscellaneous errors in mass production. The present design method has been also applied to frontlight and multi-side-lamp(eg., four-side-four-lamp) backlight.
