  • In some cases which are unable to replace the inserts when the depot maintenance or performance improvement of armored vehicles are carried out could have a risk of declining clamping forces by re-processing chromate. The change in the clamping forces of inserts has been investigated by applying a chromate process to hold the insert on the aluminum plate of the armored vehicle in this paper. In order to identify the effect of types and surface treatment, the breaking strength has been measured by the equivalent test item to the actual conditions. These tests would contribute the establishment of the armored vehicle production process.

  • This paper aims to propose the typology suitable for games by analyzing the fashion styles of game characters and define the characteristics by type. The data collected was classified into the style groups with similarities, and the game character styles were named using representative terms. Then, five styles were identified and analyzed with the focus on clothing, hairstyle, and accessories: Creative Style, Attractive Style, Grotesque Style, Usual Style, and Suit Style. Creative Style was the unique style with partial addition or removal as the creative design. Attractive Style expressed the sexual attraction by design with significant exposure of body parts and skintight design. Grotesque Style showed grotesque, eerie, and dreary design. Usual Style was a plain and practical style. Finally, Suit Style was a kind of armor covering the whole body. The analysis results in this paper will bridge the difference of opinions between gamers and developers related to fashion style and, finally, help to enhance the competitiveness of game design.

  • Normally, allowable mean overtopping discharge is used as a design parameter for coastal structures. The crest elevation of a structure must ensure wave overtopping discharge within acceptable limits for structural safety and the safety of pedestrians, vehicles, operations, and so on. Some researchers have alternatively proposed using the maximum individual wave overtopping volumes as design criteria during a design storm, since these can provide a better design measure than the mean overtopping rate. This study contributes to the knowledge on maximum individual overtopping volumes in Rayleigh-distributed wave conditions. Two-dimensional physical model tests on typical rubble mound structure geometries were performed, and the new measurement method for individual overtopping was adopted. An empirical formula was proposed to predict the maximum individual overtopping volumes based on the mean overtopping rate, and the reduction effects by the armor crest width on the mean wave overtopping discharge were assessed.

  • Using the Lagrangian explicit time-integration finite element code NET3D which can treat three-dimensional high-velocity impact problems, oblique penetration processes of long rod projectile with yaw against thin plate are simulated. Through the comparison of simulation result with experimental result and other code's computational result, the adaptability and accuracy of NET3D is evaluated under the complex situation in which yaw angle and oblique angle exist simultaneously. Main research contents to be handled in this paper include the followings. First, the accuracy and efficiency estimation of NET3D code result obtained from the oblique penetration simulations of long rod projectile with yaw against thin plate. Second, the effect of increasing impact velocity. Third, the effect of initial yaw for the spaced-plate target. Residual velocities, residual lengths, angular velocities, and final deformed configurations obtained from the NET3D computations are compared with the experimental results and other code's computational results such as Eulerian code MESA and Lagrangian code EPIC. As a result of comparisons, it has been found that NET3D code is superior to EPIC code and MESA code in the prediction capability of residual velocity and residual length of penetrator. The key features obtained from the experiment can be successfully reproduced through NET3D simulations. Throughout the study, the applicability and accuracy of NET3D as a metallic armor system design tool is verified.

  • As the exploitation of oil and gas resources advances into deeper waters and harsher environments, the design and analysis of the flexible risers has become the research focus in the offshore engineering filed. Due to the complexity of the components and the sliding between the adjacent layers, the bending response of the flexible risers is highly non-linear. This paper presents the finite element analysis of the flexible risers under bending loads. The detailed finite element model of the flexible riser is established in ABAQUS software. This finite element model incorporates all the fine details of the riser to accurately predict its nonlinear structural behavior. Based on the finite element model, the bending moment-curvature relationships of a flexible riser under various axisymmetric loads have been investigated. The results have been compared with the analytical ones obtained from the literature and good agreements have been found. Moreover, the stress of the tendon armors has been studied. The non-linear relationship between the armor tendons' stress and the bending loads has been obtained.

  • Buddhist paintings in the late Joseon dynasty are characterized by diversification and subdivision of subject matters. Buddhist paintings rapidly declined since 19th century, being miniaturized and showing complicated composition. Figures that identified the shape of shoes in Buddhist paintings of late Joseon dynasty included sacheonwang that were placed in the left and right bottom of Buddhist paintings, sinjung, gwiwang and pan-gwan of siwangtaeng. Sacheonwang, an Indian folk god, was depicted as a noble person in "ahamgyeong", an early sutra, but was depicted as an armored warrior in Mahayana Buddhism world. The style of shoes sacheonwang in Korea were different depending on the times. The shoes of the sacheonwang sculpture in Seogguram of Shilla dynasty are sandal type. The sacheonwang that was drawn on Jijangbosaldo in Goryeo dynasty wears non-showy armor and red yi(履). The sacheonwang that was expressed on Buddhist paintings in Joseon dynasty wears showy armor and decorated hwa. Comparing the yi of Goryeo Jijangbosaldo sacheonwang with the yi of Bodhisattva on the Dunhuang yeolbanbyeonsangdo, Jijangbosaldo sacheonwang's shoes are Korean style in which the sole is flat and the front part has no decoration, but in the shoes of Bodhisattva on the Dunhuang yeolbanbyeonsangdo the sole is not flat, the front part is lifted. The style of shoes of pan-gwan, who is depicted on Siwangtaeng, is hwa. However, unlike the decorative hwa of sacheonwang, its front is not lifted and it has no decoration. It is assumed that the shoes of sacheonwang or pan-gwan represented obangsaek based on the idea of eumyang-ohaeng. Depiction of shoes shown in Buddhist paintings reflected the phases of the social life. In addition, the sandals of Shilla sacheonwang implies that sourthern culture in addition to Buddhism was introduced. Having expressed the shoes of Goryeo sacheonwang with conventional yi implies that Buddhism governed the inner world of the people, and the shape and material of the shoes reveals aristocracy. It is assumed that that an armored warrior wore yi, not hwa implies that the then society was stable. Also, it is assumed that that the shoes of sacheonwang on Buddhist paintings in Joseon dynasty were hwa implies that the role of tutelary god was stressed in the disordered society.

  • The focus of this study is to provide a method for determining the dimension of a submerged breakwater satisfying the target transmission performance or predicting the transmission coefficient of a given structure. This method was developed based on data analysis of the physical experiment that was carried out by using the submerged breakwater composed of double-layer permeable blocks. Two different armor blocks of Tetrapod and Triangular Pyramid Block were used in the experiment. The parameter $K_Th_b/h$ was introduced in the analysis of the measurement data. By using the linear regression line deduced from the analysis of the experimental data, it was possible to readily predict the wave transmission coefficient irrespective different water depths at the crest of the submerged breakwater, under the condition of significant decrease in transmitted wave height due to the submerged breakwater. This method can be effectively utilized for estimating the necessary number of blocks used for the submerged breakwater as well as comparing the transmission characteristics of the submerged breakwater according to use of different armor blocks.

  • This research develops a sensorless hydraulic servo system of Parallel-Typed robot for harbour construction. Purpose of the robot is to mechanize the construction, which is accomplished through a joystick's operating by a stoneworker (or diver). The robot is attached on the end of an excavator as its attachment or transported by a crane to reach the desired place. The embedded compact controller is installed on the robot body and controlled by wireless telecommunication. For underwater work, it is necessary to waterproof the robot and its sensors. Especially, a sensor waterproof is a main drawback for the underwater robot. This leads us to develop a hydraulic robot position controller using an observer which gives the position information without any position sensor. We design a neural network to identify the displacement change according to the command voltage to servo valve. To verify the sensorless controller, this paper presents the performance of the sensorless control for which the position is given by the observer comparing with that of the sensor control for which the position is measured by LVDT sensors.

  • The purpose of this study was to consider the kinds and features of costume and fabrics of the early Koryo period which are mentioned in the records of costume system, royal presents and diplomatic articles at that time ranging from the reigns of king Gwangjong to king Gyeongjong and to king Seongjong. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. In the 11th year of king Gwangjong's reign, the official costume system was established, which reflected the royal will to independence as an imperial nation. That system also became the basis of the official wage system in king Gyeongjong's reign. In the reigns of king Gwangjong and king Gyeongjong, the monarch granted official uniforms to persons who passed the state examination, directly connecting with new bureaucrats and strengthening the royal authority. Those uniforms were usually worn at a banquet where the monarch and subjects participate together in the early Koryo period. In the reign of king Seongjong, costume and fabrics were positive means of realizing political Confucianism as they were used for bureaucrats who advanced to official position through the state examination. Records issued at that time explain that the monarch presented costume and fabrics in an effort to getting along with officials and civilians of different classes as the state and the royal authority stabilized. Found in the records released in the reigns of king Gwangjong to king Seongjong, the kinds of costume or fabrics at that time include jikseongeuio, gap, yongeui, seupeui, gyegeum baekcheop, geumeunseon gyegeumpoyok and po. The techniques of manufacturing armors in the early Koryo period were probably advanced since the item was a craftwork presented to the court in the reigns of kings Gwangjong and Gyeongjong. Presumedly, baekcheop was a kind of hemp and po. Koryo's native hemp cloth.

  • This paper is about designing and implementing the simulation training equipment (simulator) for the CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle-II (armor type). The simulation training equipment (simulator) is a military training equipment in a virtual environment that analyzes the training using various CBRN equipment according to the CBRN situation and make a professional report. The controller or training instructor can construct a scenario using the instructor control system for a possible CBRN situation, spread the situation, and observe the process of the trainee performing the propagated situation appropriately. All process can be monitored and analyzed by the system, and it can be recorded, so it is also used for AAR (After Action Review). To implement CBRN situation training in a virtual environment, instructor control (IOS), host (HOS), video (IGS), input/output device (IOC), and sound (ACS) were implemented, a long-range chemical automatic detector (LCA), a combined chemical detector (CAD), a control (MCC) and an operation (OCC) computer were developed as simulators. In this paper, the design and development of simulation training equipment for CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle-II (armor type) was conducted, and the performance was verified through integrated tests and acceptance tests.
