  • The purpose of this study was to verify the stability of environmental disposition through analyzing the short term effect of the 'Interior Design History' course on students environmental dispositions, especially their interior image preferences toward traditional/modern, female/masculine, and simple/complex characteristics. The pre-test post-test control group experimental design was used. The independent variable was the experience of the Interior Design History course, and the dependent variable was environmental disposition measured by IIPS(Interior Image Preference Scale). The measurements were done at both beginning and end of fall semester, 1997. Subjects were using 71 undergraduate students of Drafting course (control group) and 35 undergraduate students of Interior Design History course (experimental group) at Y University. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and F-test through ANOCOVA. This research revealed no effect of the Interior Design History course on students interior environmental dispositions. The stability of those environmental dispositions and also the validity of the IIPS were proved.

  • This paper describes the implementation of a digital audio effect system-on-a-chip (SoC), which integrates an embedded digital signal processor (DSP) core, audio codec intellectual property, a number of peripheral blocks, and various audio effect algorithms. The audio effect SoC is developed using a software and hardware co-design method. In the design of the SoC, the embedded DSP and some dedicated hardware blocks are developed as a hardware design, while the audio effect algorithms are realized using a software centric method. Most of the audio effect algorithms are implemented using a C code with primitive functions that run on the embedded DSP, while the equalization effect, which requires a large amount of computation, is implemented using a dedicated hardware block with high flexibility. For the optimized implementation of audio effects, we exploit the primitive functions of the embedded DSP compiler, which is a very efficient way to reduce the code size and computation. The audio effect SoC was fabricated using a 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process and evaluated successfully on a real-time test board.

  • For the main variables to be selected by the designer for the heating and cooling load calculation in greenhouses, in order to evaluate the effect of these design values on the heating and cooling load, the simulations were carried out by varying the respective design values. Based on these results, we proposed the design values which should pay special attention to selection. The design values which have the greatest effect on the heating load were the overall heat transfer coefficient of the covering material and the design outdoor temperature was next. The effect of the design values according to the number of spans showed little difference. In the case of the single-span greenhouse, the effect of the design values related to the underground heat transfer can not be ignored. However, in the case of the multi-span greenhouse, the effect of the design values related to the underground heat transfer and the infiltration rate were insignificant. The design values which have the greatest effect on the cooling load were the solar radiation into the greenhouse and the evapotranspiration coefficient, followed by the indoor and outdoor temperature difference and the ventilation rate. The effect of the design values showed a great difference between the single-span greenhouse and the multi-span greenhouse, but there was almost no difference according to the number of spans. The effect of the overall heat transfer coefficient of the covering material was negligible in both the single-span greenhouse and the multi-span greenhouse. However, the effect of the indoor and outdoor temperature difference and the ventilation rate on the cooling load was not negligible. Especially, it is considered that the effect is larger in multi-span greenhouse.

  • The three-dimensional (3-D) NAND flash structure with fully charge storage using edge fringing field effect is presented, and its programming characteristic is evaluated. We successfully confirmed that this structure using fringing field effect provides good program characteristics showing sufficient threshold voltage ($V_T$) margin by technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation. From the simulation results, we expect that program speed characteristics of proposed structure have competitive compared to other 3D NAND flash structure. Moreover, it is estimated that this structural feature using edge fringing field effect gives better design scalability compared to the conventional 3D NAND flash structures by scaling of the hole size for the vertical channel. As a result, the proposed structure is one of the candidates of Terabit 3D vertical NAND flash cell with lower bit cost and design scalability.

  • A $2{\times}2$ crossover design including carryover effect is considered for assessment of population bioequivalence of two drug formulations in a Bayesian framework. In classical analysis, it is complex to deal with the carryover effect since the estimate of the drug effect is biased in the presence of a carryover effect. The proposed method in this article uses uninformative priors and vague proper priors for objectiveness of priors and the posterior probability distribution of the parameters of interest is derived with given priors. The posterior probabilities of the hypotheses for assessing population bioequivalence are evaluated based on a Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation method. An example with real data set is given for illustration.

  • This study is intended to analyze the way of incorporating the effect of natural light into the architectural space design by Le Cobusier. The composition of modem architectural space is significantly different from that of classical architecture. Such transition is attributable to the change of tectonic method which was supported by the development of new materials and structural systems. In addition, the effect of natural light systems which is one of the main elements in architectural space has undergone significant changes in modern ages. Moreover, Le Corbusier introduces the new concept of natural light in his works. By bringing the above two trends together, this study analyzed the way how Le Cobusier applied light effect in his works. Specifically, findings regarding the 'traffic flow in the space' with the light, 'elevation effect' with the 'Brise soleil' in Le Cobusier's works were presented. And also the way of lighting the object in the space was presented.

  • This article is concerned with the intraclass correlation in survey sampling. From a design-based viewpoint the intraclass correlation is generalized to a finite population with unequal sized clusters. Under simple random cluster sampling the intraclass correlation is given in an explicit form, which is a generalization of the usual one. The range of it is found and the design effect is expressed by means of it. An example is given to compare the intraclass correlation with the homogeneity measure numerically, which shows that two measures are not the same except some limited cases.

  • Crossover design is officially except for special occasions recommended by KFDA and FDA for assessing Bioequivalence between two drugs one for reference and the other for innovator. Such design is regarded as a special case of latin square split-polt or repeated measurement design and its main difference with other designing methods is that each subject in an experiment is exposed two drugs in sequence. Therefore general statistical analysis is not suitable since the model for this experiment includes carryover effect in addition to period and sequence effect. in this paper analysis for crossover model with two drugs and its interpretation are mainly discussed and an example is given for illustration.

  • In the strut-tie model design of structural concrete, the importance of the effective strength of concrete strut has been overlooked by many practitioners. The authors believe that the effective strength of concrete strut is an important factor not only in determining steel tie forces but also in verifying the nodal zone strength and geometric compatibility condition of a selected strut-tie model. This study evaluate the effect of the effective strength of concrete strut on structural concrete design by applying the different effective strut strengths to the strut-tie model design of a post-tensioned anchorage zone and a continuous concrete deep beam.

  • The flow rate and the noise level of 18 cross flow fans were measured to analyze the effect of design variables on these and to finally find the optimal design value. These data were analyzed by the Taguchi method and the neural network. The optimal values obtained by the neural network showed good agreements with that by the Taguchi method. The effects of eight design variables on the fan performance and the noise were evaluated and discussed.
