  • ISO 15926 is an international standard for the integration and sharing of plant lifecycle data. Plant 3D design data typically consist of logical configuration, equipment specifications and ports, and 3D shape data. This paper presents the method for the ISO 15926-based integration of plant 3D design data. For this, reference data (class, attribute, and template) of ISO 15926 were extended to describe plant 3D design data. In addition to the data model extension, a plant design information integration platform which reads plant 3D design data in ISO 15926 and displays 3D design information was developed. Finally, the prototype platform is verified through the experiment of loading and retrieving plant 3D design data in ISO 15926 with the platform.

  • Most recently, offshore Engineering & Construction field is concerned about integration management technology such as CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing), PDM(Product Data Management) and Enterprise Information Engineering in order to cope with the rapid change of engineering and manufacturer specification as per owner's requirement during construction stage of the project. System integration and integrated data modeling with relational database in integration management technology improve the quality of product and reduce the period of the construction project by reason of owing design information jointly. This paper represents the design methodology of system integration using Business Process Reengineering by the case study. The case study is about the offshore plant material information process from front end engineering design to detail engineering for the construction and the basis of monitoring system by integrating and sharing the design information between the 2D intelligent P&ID and 3D plant modeling using relational database. As a result of the integrated data modeling and system integration, it is possible to maintain the consistency of design process in point of view of the material balancing and reduce the design assumption/duration. Near future, this system will be expanded and connected with the MRP(Material Requirement Planing) and the POR (Purchase Order Requisition) system.

  • Tight integration between design and analysis processes and the data representation in the ship design application domain have been studied in this paper. Multi-Representation Architecture for design and analysis integration, proposed at Georgia Institute of Technology, has been carefully investigated for the application in the initial ship design stage. The MRA approach facilitates efficient generation of analysis models from the initial ship design data, thus reducing design lead time. Easy generation of analysis model is important because it allows quick analysis iteration under frequent design changes. The SMM, ABB and PBAM are defined for the analysis model of the typical ship structure. Only a part of the typical initial ship design data has been considered in the experimental implementation of the proposed approach. However, the prototype implementation shows that the application of MRA approach in the structural ship design domain is quite feasible. It is also contemplated that the same approach can be extended for other design and analysis views in the ship design domain.

  • As the networks connect the world, enterprises tend to move manufacturing activities into virtual spaces. Since different software applications use different data terminology, it becomes a problem to interoperate, interchange, and manage electronic data among heterogeneous systems. It is said that approximately one billion dollar has been being spent yearly in USA for product data exchange and interoperability. As commercial CAD systems have brought in the concept of design feature for the sake of interoperability, terminologies of design features need to be harmonized. In order to define design feature terminology for integration, knowledge about feature definitions of different CAD systems should be considered. STEP standard have attempted to solve this problem, but it defines only syntactic data representation so that semantic data integration is not possible. This paper proposes a methodology for integrating modeling features of CAD systems. We utilize the ontology concept to build a data model of design features which can be a semantic standard of feature definitions of CAD systems. Using feature ontology, we implement an integrated virtual database and a simple system which searches and edits design features in a semantic way.

  • A competitive automated manufacturing system integrates the various control processes and data used in service of products. design, manufacturing, and, sale. CIM is a way to achieve such integration through computers and computational techniques in manufacturing, planning, and design. Developing effective CIM architectures is hampered by integration problems. The key to resolving these problems lies in a better understanding of manufacturing function and how it is related to other manufacturing functions. Integration of CIM environment requires coordinated solutions to data management problems for individual application system as well as for exchange of data between these applications. This requires a common framework for data management throughout the CIM environment. This paper discusses the design paradigm as a framework for this purpose. Designing an organizational structure to meet those goals invloves 1) analyzing the functions through functional decomposition, 2) developing a data model to coordinate functions. As a result, we propose an object-oriented design methodology for manufacturing information system.

  • Finite element analysis is very important in the design and analysis of mechanical engineering. The process of FEA encompasses shape modeling, mesh generation, matrix solving and post-processing. Some of these processes can be tightly integrated with the current software architectures and data sharing mode. However, complete integration of all the FEA process itself and the integration to the manufacturing processes is almost impossible in the current practice. The barriers to this problem are inconsistent data format and the enterprise-wise software integration technology. In this research, the information model based on STEP AP209 was chosen for handling finite element analysis data. The international standard for the FEA data can bridge the gap between design, analysis and manufacturing processes. The STEP-based FEA system can be further tightly integrated to the distributed software and database environment using CORBA technology. The prototype FEA system DICESS is implemented to verify the proposed concepts.

  • A provision of spatial information is expected to make a market explosion in various fields. A distribution of spatial data on wireless mobile environments indicates a huge expansion of mobile technology as well as a spread of geospatial applications. For high quality spatial information, 4S technology project integrating 4 kinds of spatial systems is currently being executed with the goal of nationwide integration of spatial data and spatial information systems. In terms of network environments, a mobile ad hoc network where mobile terminals communicate with each other without any infrastructures has been standardized for the next generation mobile wireless network. With respect to the future technologies for spatial information, it is necessary to design 4S applications on mobile ad hoc networks. This paper addresses the issue, which is proposing design points for distributing 4S spatial data on mobile ad hoc networks and ad hoc styled 4S applications.

  • For systematic and effective achievement of Military R&D(Research and Development) processes and activities, information system which supports the concept of Systems Engineering is necessary. WISEMAN(Weapon System Information Integration for System Engineering and Management) is an information integration system, which can provide various kinds of interrelated application functions and assist the collaboration and concurrent engineering activities for weapon system R&D processes and activities. WISEMAN can manage the design information and configuration data of the target development products. It takes charge of the processes and histories about the product data, makes to share all the design information, and provides important application functions for R&D processes such as requirement management, product structure management, parts Management, documents and CAD drawing management, design change management, TDP(Technical Data Package) management etc., and in conjunction with these functions WISEMAN controls various effectivities of system configurations based on baselines and model information. WISEMAN has been used by ADD and Rotem Co. since developed.
