This paper is a longitudinal study, comparing survey results between two time periods. A previous survey was conducted in 1999. After 10 years of the first survey, the second survey was conducted while utilizing the same questionnaire. A list of membership of Korea Institute of Heallthcare Architecture was used as a sampling frame. At the first survey in 1999, questionnaires of 27.3 percentage were returned, and 15.5 percentage in the 2008 survey. Healthcare design is one of the highly specialized design types in architecture. In addition, it is demanded highly specialized knowledge to solve healthcare design problems. As a professional service firm(PSF), architectural firm utilizes knowledge assets to provide design service to clients. Specialized knowledge in question is one of the core assets of PSF. The knowledge generates competitive advantages and plays an effective role as a marketing tool for PSF. However, empirical studies dealing with the knowledge characteristics of specialized design(healthcare) firms were hardly found. Thus, this study aims to trace the professional architects' perception of knowledge demands for task performance and architectural knowledge assets. The results can be used as a reference when a specialized firm in healthcare design initiates to build knowledge assets in it.

Since Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing(MEP) routing is a repetitive and experience-centered process that requires considerable time and human resources, if automated, design errors can be prevented and the previously required time and human resources can be reduced. Although research on automatic routing has been conducted in many industries, the MEP routing in AEC projects has yet to be identified due to the complexity of system configuration, distributed expertise, and various constraints. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the target subjects for MEP routing automation and the constraints of each subject. The MEP design checklist provided by a CM company and existing literature review were conducted, and target subjects and constraints were identified through process observation and in-depth expert interviews for five days by visiting a MEP design company. The target subjects were largely divided into six categories: air conditioning plumbing, air conditioning duct, restroom sanitary plumbing, heating plumbing, and diagram. The findings from interviews show that work reduction and error reduction has the greatest effect on air conditioning plumbing while the level of difficulty is the highest in air conditioning duct and restroom sanitary plumbing. Major constraints for each subject include preventing cold drafts on air conditioning pipes, deviation in ventilation volume in air conditioning ducts, routing order on restroom sanitary plumbing, and separation distance from the wall on heating plumbing. In this way, subjects and constraints identified in this study can be used for MEP automatic routing.
This study began with the question: "what influence would the width of river surface have on visual preference, provided that the environment surrounding the river does not change?" to evaluate the visual preference factors of the river scenery which could vary according to the change of water level. To estimate the minimum flow needed for river sceneries, field survey of Youngsan river was carried out to collect the field data and evaluated the visual preference factors to obtain a most preferred W/B ratio. At Youngsan bridge location, the feeling of open space factors, physical characteristic factors and complexity factors appeared to have significant relations to visual preferences. At Imgok bridge location, complexity factors, aesthetic factors and physical characteristic factors have significance to visual preferences. As a result of multi regression modeling, it was found that physical factors affected visual preferences the most at urban river locations and complexity factors affected the most visual preferences at rural river locations. As a results of this study, the most preferred W/B ratio was estimated as which vary from 0.5 to 0.7 and this results can contribute to the field of river landscape design to maximize the users' satisfaction level.
The Web continues to grow fast rate in both a large aclae volume of traffic and the size and complexity of Web sites. Along with growth, the complexity of tasks such as Web site design Web server design and of navigating simply through a Web site have increased. An important input to these design tasks is the analysis of how a web site is being used. The is paper proposes a Page logging System(PLS) identifying reliably user sessions required in Web mining system PLS consists of Page Logger acquiring all the page accesses of the user Log processor producing user session from these data, and statements to incorporate a call to page logger applet. Proposed PLS abbreviates several preprocessing tasks which spends a log of time and efforts that must be performed in Web mining systems. In particular, it simplifies the complexity of transaction identification phase through acquiring directly the amount of time a user stays on a page. Also PLS solves local cache hits and proxy IPs that create problems with identifying user sessions from Web sever log.
This paper proposes an interference avoidance approach for Constraint-Based Routing (CBR) algorithm in the Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. The MPLS network itself has a capability of integrating among any layer-3 protocols and any layer-2 protocols of the OSI model. It is based on the label switching technology, which is fast and flexible switching technique using pre-defined Label Switching Paths (LSPs). The MPLS network is a solution for the Traffic Engineering(TE), Quality of Service (QoS), Virtual Private Network (VPN), and Constraint-Based Routing (CBR) issues. According to the MPLS CBR, routing performance requirements are capability for on-line routing, high network throughput, high network utilization, high network scalability, fast rerouting performance, low percentage of call-setup request blocking, and low calculation complexity. There are many previously proposed algorithms such as minimum hop (MH) algorithm, widest shortest path (WSP) algorithm, and minimum interference routing algorithm (MIRA). The MIRA algorithm is currently seemed to be the best solution for the MPLS routing problem in case of selecting a path with minimum interference level. It achieves lower call-setup request blocking, lower interference level, higher network utilization and higher network throughput. However, it suffers from routing calculation complexity which makes it difficult to real task implementation. In this paper, there are three objectives for routing algorithm design, which are minimizing interference levels with other source-destination node pairs, minimizing resource usage by selecting a minimum hop path first, and reducing calculation complexity. The proposed CBR algorithm is based on power factor calculation of total amount of possible path per link and the residual bandwidth in the network. A path with high power factor should be considered as minimum interference path and should be selected for path setup. With the proposed algorithm, all of the three objectives are attained and the approach of selection of a high power factor path could minimize interference level among all source-destination node pairs. The approach of selection of a shortest path from many equal power factor paths approach could minimize the usage of network resource. Then the network has higher resource reservation for future call-setup request. Moreover, the calculation of possible path per link (or interference level indicator) is run only whenever the network topology has been changed. Hence, this approach could reduce routing calculation complexity. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has good performance over high network utilization, low call-setup blocking percentage and low routing computation complexity.
Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of diet complexity and fermented soy protein on growth performance and amino acid digestibility. In Exp. 1, a total of 120 crossbred weanling pigs ($5.68{\pm}0.80\;kg$ BW) were randomly allocated into 4 treatments. Each treatment had 6 replicate pens comprising 5 pigs in each replicate. Experimental diets consisted of simple (soybean meal as protein source) and complex (soybean meal, rice protein concentrate, potato protein concentrate and fish meal as protein sources) diets; each diet contained 0 or 5% fermented soy protein (FSP), respectively. Dietary treatments included: i) simple diet; ii) simple diet with 5% FSP; iii) complex diet; iv) complex diet with 5% FSP. Pigs were provided each experimental diet for 20 d (phase 1) and then fed the same common diet for 10 d (phase 2). During days 0-10, pigs fed FSP diets had greater ADG than those fed non-FSP diets (p<0.05). G/F in FSP treatments was significantly higher than that in non-FSP treatments (p<0.05) from days 0 to 10. Throughout the overall period, G/F was greater in FSP treatments compared with non-FSP treatments (p<0.05). On d 10, N digestibility was higher in pigs fed FSP diets than in those fed non-FSP diets (p<0.05). Diet complexity did not affect growth performance and nutrient digestibility (p>0.05) in this experiment. In Exp 2, 12 ileal-cannulated, weanling barrows were housed in individual metabolism crates and randomly assigned to 1 of 4 treatments (same as Exp. 1) by using a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design. Among the essential amino acids, apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of Met and Val were increased in pigs fed FSP diets compared with those fed non-FSP diets (p<0.05). AID of Met, Phe and total essential amino acids were higher in pigs fed complex diets than in those fed simple diets (p<0.05). Among the non-essential amino acids, AID of Ala in FSP treatments was greater than that in non-FSP treatments (p<0.05). In addition, Asp, Cys, Glu, Pro, Ser and total non-essential amino acid digestibilities in pigs fed complex diets were higher compared with those fed simple diets (p<0.05). Interaction was observed in AID of Met, Asp and Pro. In conclusion, these results indicated that feeding of 5% FSP to nursery pigs improved feed efficiency and AID of amino acids, and diet complexity did not maximize the growth performance of pigs in the subsequent phase.
The present study examined the effects of the complexity of the 3D models on the results of acoustic simulation which is the predominant tool of the acoustical design of buildings. Also, the effects of the 3D model on the auralized sounds were investigated. In order to carry out the study, four 3D models with different levels of complexity were introduced for a real auditorium which have different numbers of surfaces in the persuit of the guidance of odeon room acoustic software. The set-up of models was also based on the level of transition order of the program. And the acoustic experiments were performed measuring room acoustic parameters including SPL, RT, C80, D50. Acoustic computer simulations were performed using four different models. Then, the results of the computer modeling were compared with the measured acoustical parameters. In addition, sound sources were recorded in the field and auralized sounds were made in convolution with the impulse source made from acoustic modeling. Then, subjective tests were undertaken using auralized sounds. As the results, it was found that the result of the acoustic simulation were closer to the real room acoustic properties when 3D model was more particularly made. For the subjective test, the listening materials were acknowledged as similar with the real sound source when more complex 3D model was used. Then, it could be concluded that the complexity of the 3D model affects the results of the acoustic modeling as well as subjective tests.
Purpose - To vitalize a market or develop a new one, companies frequently release new products into the market, often by shortening the time to market, called the release period. This research aims to investigate the purchase intention behavior of consumers in terms of buying new products at the time of product release based on the release speed. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - The research reviews the influence of relative advantage, complexity, and compatibility among innovative attributes of new products, as proposed by Rogers. Moreover, it examines the moderating effect of the innovative new product attributes in terms of speed of obsolescence of old products and how that influences consumer purchase behavior. Additionally, this study tests the research hypotheses using empirical analysis. Results - The analysis demonstrated that the relative predominance (H1) and suitability (H3) of new products had a statistically significant positive influence on new product purchase intention. However, the complexity (H2) of new products had a statistically significant positive influence on new product purchase intention in contrast to its predicted sign (-). The results of the moderating effect of the old product use period were as follows. H4-1 was not supported since the difference between the path coefficients of the group with the low level old product use period and the group with the high level, represented by the relationship of relative predominance and new product purchase intention, was not statistically significant. H5-1 was also not supported since the difference between the path coefficients of the group with the low level of old product use period and the group with the high level, represented by the relationship of complexity and new product purchase intention, was not statistically significant. However, H4-2 was supported since the difference between the path coefficients of the group with the low level of old product use frequency and the group with the high level, represented by the relationship of relative advantage and new product purchase intention was statistically significant. H5-2 was not supported since the difference between the path coefficients of the group with the low level of old product use frequency and the group with the high level, represented by the relationship of complexity and new product purchase intention, was not statistically significant. H6-2 was also not supported since the difference between the path coefficients of the group with the low level of old product use frequency and the group with the high level, represented by the relationship of compatibility and new product purchase intention, was not statistically significant. Conclusion - According to the results, only H4-2 among the hypotheses on the moderating effect of the old product use period and use frequency was statistically significant. Future research should focus on carrying out a detailed review of the hypothesis on the moderating effect of the old product usage period and frequency, find the cause, and connect this to potential new research.

Today's war fields can be characterized by net-centric wars where a variety of independent weapon systems are operated in connection with each other via networks. As such, weapon systems become dramatically advanced in terms of complexity, functionality, precision and so on. It is then obvious that the defense R&D of those requires systematic and efficient development tools enabling the effective management of the complexity, budget/cost, development time, and risk all together. One viable approach is known to be the development methods based on systems engineering, which is already proved to successful in U.S. In this paper, a systems engineering approach is studied to be used in the conceptual design of advanced weapon systems. The approach is utilizing some graphical models in the design phase. As a target system, an unmanned aerial vehicle system is considered and the standard SysML is also used as a modeling language to create models. The generated models have several known merits such as ease of understanding and communication. The interrelationships between the models and the design artifacts are identified, which should be useful in the generation of some design documents that are required in the defense R&D. The result reported here could be utilized in the further study that can eventually lead to a full-scale model-based systems engineering method.
With video compression standards such as MPEG-4, a transmission error happens in a video-packet basis, rather than in a macroblock basis. In this context, we propose a semantic error prioritization method that determines the size of a video packet based on the importance of its contents. A video packet length is made to be short for an important area such as a facial area in order to reduce the possibility of error accumulation. To facilitate the semantic error prioritization, an efficient hardware algorithm for face tracking is proposed. The increase of hardware complexity is minimal because a motion estimation engine is efficiently re-used for face tracking. Experimental results demonstrate that the facial area is well protected with the proposed scheme.
