  • As the postsecondary school-age population continues to decline, universities are building identities to differentiate themselves and create a favorable impression among this cohort. We investigated the role of logo-bearing products as a way of promoting university identity, specifically, the effects of ingroup ties, ingroup affect, and centrality on attitude toward university logo products and purchase intention. This study further examined the moderating effects of perceived university prestige on the relationship between logo product attitude and in-store purchase intention, and the moderating effect of online shopping frequency on the relationship between logo product attitude and online purchase intention. We conducted a survey of undergraduate and graduate students at a university in Seoul. Survey responses (N=561) were collected and processed using SPSS 23.0. Multiple regression analysis showed that ingroup ties and affect had significant effects on product attitude. However, centrality had no significant effect on attitude toward the product. Product attitude had a direct significant effect on both in-store and online purchase intention. Perceived university prestige moderated the relationship between product attitude and in-store purchase intention. Moreover, online shopping frequency moderated the relationship between product attitude and online purchase intention. The results of this study are expected to provide fundamental knowledge for developing product strategy of logo products.

  • The purpose of this study is to minimize physical obstacles for handicapped students in university dormitories. To carry out this study, we have surveyed 10 Universities in Korea. First we have studied the law and the theory of architectural planning and design guides those are related with handicapped people. And it was surveyed the existing state of the dormitories facilities and made a checklist. And the satisfaction about the facilities was questioned to the handicapped students who used those buildings. It is concluded that most of the universities which we have surveyed were equipped with good facilities for the general students but don't have regards for handicapped people at that time. As the result of the rate of the satisfaction, they are satisfied those facilities generally. As you can see the result of this research, the facilities in University are not very good for handicapped people in many points. So that kind of many facilities must be taken into consideration for handicapped people in the stage of architectural programming in the process of designing the dormitory building.

  • Most of the DC loads have had the sensitive characteristics electrically for input voltage. In this system, power converter is operated after connecting with DC loads to minimize the overshoot of the control voltage that may occur during connection of the loads. But whenever starting the power converter, parameters in circuit are different because power converter has been connected with diverse load types at each startup time. This is cause of a disadvantage to PI controller design of power converter. In this paper, the novel voltage control method using sliding mode control theory has proposed. This control method minimizes the overshoot of control voltage at startup of power converter. Despite the variations of the system parameters, the proposed voltage controller has fast response and robustness characteristics such as PI and sliding mode controllers. The proposed controller was applied to the three-phase AC/DC converter and each performance of controller was verified.

  • Under the WTO system, global standardization of professionalism in architecture practice calls for transformation of curriculum in architectural education in Korea. This paper compares the curriculum standards of international accrediting authorities such as NAAB and RIBA based on UIA accord which defines fundamental knowledge and abilities of an architect. As a result this paper extracts 51 achievement oriented criteria of architectural education in Korea. It can be categorized as communication, design, cultural context(history and theory, human behavior and social aspects), technical systems(structural systems, environmental control systems, construction material and assemblies) and practice(project process, project economics and business management, laws and regulations). Based on this recommended Korean curriculum standards, current curriculum is analyzed focusing on the 5 architectural programs in Seoul. Through this analysis, it became clear that some area - social and economic aspects in architecture, sustainability in architecture, understanding and selection of construction material, assemblies and environmental control system, recycling of existing building, professional liability, professional rules of conduct, project economics and project management - need to be covered and emphasized to meet the international standards in professional education in architecture. The result in this paper will be used as a basic data in the process of finding the direction of restructuring curriculum for professional architectural education in Korea.

  • Following the PART I, which explored the concept of 'Fashion Goods' and 'Basic Goods' in terms of design elements and operational differences, this study, PART II, examined the differences in merchandising process of the two different types of goods. Merchandising process was divided into three stages; planning, production, and presentation. The study adopted a qualitative approach by use of eighteen in-depth interviews with merchandisers and designers with a minimum of six years and a maximum of 15 years of career experience in apparel industry. According to the type of goods, different merchandising practices were found. Especially material and production order/reorder practices were noteworthy. Fashion goods had high possibility of using high-quality materials sourced abroad and few of them were reordered. In other words, reorder practices were established for basic goods only; replenishment was actively implemented for higher inventory turn of basic goods; usually materials and production for basic goods were sourced domestically. In conclusion, based on the differences, more refined merchandising strategies of apparel companies and consistent theory building in this field are required for fashion and basic goods respectively.

  • The recently introduced index Ratio Of Torsion (ROT) quantifies the base shear amplification due to torsional effects on shear cantilever types of building structures. In this work, a theoretical proof based on the theory of elasticity is provided, depicting that the ratio of torsion (ROT) is independent of the forces acting on the structure, although its definition stems from the shear forces. This is a particular attribute of other design and evaluation criteria against torsion such as center of rigidity and center of strength. In the case of ROT, this evidence could be considered as inconsistent, as ROT is a function solely of the forces acting on structural members, nevertheless it is proven to be independent of them. As ROT is the amplification of the shear forces due to in-plan irregularities, this work depicts that this increase of internal shear forces rely only on the structural topology. Moreover, a numerical verification of this theoretical finding was accomplished, using linear statistics interpretation and nonlinear neural networks simulation for an adequate database of structures.

  • Geothermal heat pump(GHP) systems use vertical borehole heat exchangers to transfer heat to and from the surrounding ground via a heat carrier fluid that circulates between the borehole and the heat pump. An Important feature associated with design parameters and system performance is the local thermal resistances between the heat carrier flow channels in the borehole and the surrounding ground. This paper deals with the in-situ experimental determination of the effective thermal properties of the ground. The recorded thermal responses together with the line-source theory are used to determine the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity, and the steady-state borehole thermal resistance. In addition, this paper compares the experimental borehole resistance with the results from the different empirical and theoretical relations to evaluate this resistance. Further, the performance simulation of a GHP system with vertical borehole heat exchangers was conducted to analyze the effect of the borehole thermal resistance on the system performance.

  • It is the juristocracy in architecture to judge the architectural plagiarism by copyright law. The architectural plagiarism should judge by architectural criticism. From the point of the criticism to discuss architectural plagiarism, the study on artistic imitation should be preceding. The current discussion on architectural plagiarism doesn't consider artistic imitation. Therefore, the result of the discussion only focused on whether the building is plagiarizing or not. From the point of architectural criticism, there should be three considerations, which are creation, imitation, and plagiarism. In the study of Aesthetics, it theorized artistic imitation as the appropriation. With the understanding of the appropriation, contemporary art is developing the discourse on plagiarism beyond the boundary of plagiarism fundamentalism. The purpose of this study is to apply the appropriation to the discussion of architectural plagiarism. The study introduces the discourse on architectural plagiarism rather than judging it with copyright law. There so the study categorized the aesthetics standard of appropriation art, then apply it to the architecture cases. The architecture cases subjects of analysis are the glasshouse by Philip Johnson, National Museum of Australia by Howard Raggatt, and the Meiquan 22nd Century in China. At the point of the appropriation theory, the glasshouse is the only architectural appropriation, and others need to apply the evaluation criteria of plagiarism.
