Damage to nuclear power plants causes human casualties and environmental disasters. There are electrical facilities that control safety-related devices in nuclear power plants, and seismic performance is required for them. The 2016 Gyeongju earthquake had many high-frequency components. Therefore, there is a high possibility that an earthquake involving many high frequency components will occur in South Korea. As such, it is necessary to examine the safety of nuclear power plants against an earthquake with many high-frequency components. In this study, the shaking table test of electrical facilities was conducted against the design earthquake for nuclear power plants with a large low-frequency components and an earthquake with a large high-frequency components. The response characteristics of the earthquake with a large high-frequency components were identified by deriving the amplification factors of the response through the shaking table test. In addition, safety of electrical facility against the two aforementioned types of earthquakes with different seismic characteristics was confirmed through limit-state seismic tests. The electrical facility that was performed to the shaking table test in this study was a motor control center (MCC).

Vibration/shock affects biggest taking a train subtraction of vehicle and durability decline. Therefore, absorber is used for vibration/shock isolation and various qualities of the material and design are applied to isolation. This paper proposes vibration/shock absorber that applies 'Disc'spring. Through comparison with 'Disc' spring that has nonlinearity and coil spring that is having linearity, see effect that nonlinearity of isolation gets in vibration/shock isolation. Coil spring and 'Disc' spring are non-linear numerical analysis and simulation through theory for this, get and investigate comparison result through an experiment finally. Expressed and formulated shock through 'Runge-Kutta' method/impact response to nonlinear-vibration-equation of 1 degree of freedom for numerical analysis. Double half sine pulse of excitation used and analyzed result through spectrum response analysis here. Response of disc spring is compared to response of coil spring by changing ho/t ratio with computer simulation and the usage of disc spring is increased through analysis of effect of design factors. The purpose of this paper is that the shock response of disc spring is calculated through numerical simulation and to design the optimal absorber under the limited condition. And then, the isolation effect was analyzed through the shock test.

Seismic demand on nonstructural components (NSCs) is highly dependent on the coupled behavior of a combined supporting structure-NSC system. Because of the inherent complexities of the problem, many of the affecting factors are inevitably neglected or simplified based on engineering judgments in current seismic design codes. However, a systematic analysis of the key affecting factors should establish reasonable seismic design provisions for NSCs. In this study, an idealized 2-DOF model simulating the coupled structure-NSC system was constructed to analyze the parameters that affect the response of NSCs comprehensively. The analyses were conducted to evaluate the effects of structure-NSC mass ratio, structure, and NSC nonlinearities on the peak component acceleration. Also, the appropriateness of component ductility factor (Rp) given by current codes was discussed based on the required ductility capacity of NSCs. It was observed that the responses of NSCs on the coupled system were significantly affected by the mass ratio, resulting in lower accelerations than the floor spectrum-based response, which neglected the interaction effects. Also, the component amplification factor (ap) in current provisions tended to underestimate the dynamic amplification of NSCs with a mass ratio of less than 15%. The nonlinearity of NSCs decreased the component responses. In some cases, the code-specified Rp caused nonlinear deformation far beyond the ductility capacity of NSCs, and a practically unacceptable level of ductility was required for short-period NSCs to achieve the assigned amount of response reduction.
A Wind and Structural Health Monitoring System (WASHMS) has been installed in the Tsing Ma suspension Bridge in Hong Kong with one of the objectives being the verification of analytical processes used in wind-resistant design. On 2 August 1997, Typhoon Victor just crossed over the Bridge and the WASHMS timely recorded both wind and structural response. The measurement data are analysed in this paper to obtain the mean wind speed, mean wind direction, mean wind inclination, turbulence intensity, integral scale, gust factor, wind spectrum, and the acceleration response and natural frequency of the Bridge. It is found that some features of wind structure and bridge response are difficult to be considered in the currently used analytical process for predicting buffeting response of long suspension bridges, for the Bridge is surrounded by a complex topography and the wind direction of Typhoon Victor changes during its crossing. It seems to be necessary to improve the prediction model so that a reasonable comparison can be performed between the measurement and prediction for long suspension bridges in typhoon prone regions.

MTI filter is used to separate target signal from clutter in many radar signal processing. By suppressing clutter before CFAR detection, the detection performance can be improved. As a radar system designed, a design engineer generally takes averaged SNR and CNR into account and does not include the effect of MTI filter's frequency response. In practice, when the signals including clutter are pass through the filter, SNR is widely varying according to target velocity and CNR is also varying according to clutter center frequency and spectrum spreading. In this paper, we have derived the relationship between the MTI filter's frequency response and a target's velocity and a clutter's spectrum characteristics. With the variation of SNR and CNR at the filter output, the detection performance of CFAR has been analyzed by the simulation and has made certain of their influences on the performance.

The capacity spectrum method (CSM) can be used to simply estimate the maximum displacement response of the nonlinear structures. To evaluate seismic performance of multi-span bridges using the CSM, the representative response for structural system should be derived from the multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) responses by using the equivalent single-degree-of-freedom (ESDOF) method. The ESDOF method is used to calculate the capacity curve of the structural system from the pushover curves of all piers or structural members estimated by the pushover analysis. In order to evaluate an accuracy of ESDOF methods used in the CSM, the maximum displacements estimated by the CSM incorporating the several ESDOF methods are compared to those by the inelastic time-history analysis for several artificial earthquakes corresponding to the design spectrum.
In this paper, we present a systematic method to derive spectrum of high-order pulse and a novel design of e-Learning system that deals with deriving the spectrum using concept-based branching method. Spectrum of high-order pulse can be derived using conventional methods including 'Consecutive Differentiations' or 'Convolutions', however, their complexity of calculation should be too high to be used as the order of the pulse increase. We develop a recursive algorithm according to the order of pulse, and then derive the formula of spectrum connected to the order with a newly designed look-up table. Moving along, we design an e-Learning content for studying the procedure of deriving high-order pulse spectrum described above. In this authoring, we use the concept-based object branching method including conventional page or title-type branching in sequential playing. We design all four Content-pages divided into 'Modeling', 'Impulse Response and Transfer Function', 'Parameters' and 'Look-up Table' by these conceptual objects. And modules and sub-modules are constructed hierarchically as conceptual elements from the Content-pages. Students can easily approach to the core concepts of the analysis because of the effects of our new teaching method. We offer step-by-step processes of the e-Learning content through unit-based branching scheme for difficult modules and sub-modules in our system. In addition we can offer repetitive learning processes for necessary block of given learning objects. Moreover, this method of constructing content will be considered as an advanced effectiveness of content itself.

The seismic base isolation design approach has been reviewed and modified to fit the nonlinear static analysis procedure for determination of the performance point of structures in a simpler way, such an adaptation may be possible for the fact that a structural system under development of damage due to earthquake loading keeps softening to result in period shifting toward longer side. The superiority of the proposed method to the state-of-the-practice approach is that the reasonably accurate performance point can be obtained without constructing the so-called acceleration displacement response spectrum required in application of capacity spectrum method. The validity of the proposed approach was verified by comparing the predicted values to the exact ones presented in the literature.

In this study, for estimating responses of a controlled structure and determining the maximum control force of velocity-dependent damping devices, three estimation models such as Fourier envelope convex model, probability model, and Newmark design spectrum are used. For this purpose, a procedure is proposed for estimating actual velocity using pseudo-velocity and this procedure considers the effects of damping ratio increased by the damping device. Time history results indicate that actual velocity should be used for estimating accurate maximum control force of damping device and Newmark design spectrum modified by the proposed equation gives the best estimation results for over all period structures.
The problem has been pointed out that the domestic design response spectrum does not reflect site amplification, particularly in the high frequency bands, including the fact that site specific response spectrum from the observed ground motions appears relatively higher than design response spectrum. Among various methods, this study applied H/V spectral ratio of ground motion for estimating site amplification. This method, originated from S waves and Rayleigh waves, recently has been extended to Coda waves and background noise for estimating site amplification. For limited time of periods, 4 electric substation sites had operated seismic stations at two separate locations (bedrock and borehole) within each substation site. H/V spectral ratio of S wave, Coda wave, and background noise, was applied to 36 accelerations of 3 macro earthquakes (Odaesan, Jeju and Gongju earthquakes), larger than magnitude 3.4. observed simultaneously at each bedrock location within 4 electric substation sites. Site amplifications at the bedrock location of 4 sites were compared among S wave, Coda wave energy, and background noise, and then compared to the previous results from the borehole location data. The site classification was also tried using resonancy frequency information at each site and location. The results suggested that all the electric substation sites showed similar site amplification patterns among S wave, Coda wave, and background noise. Each station showed its own characteristics of site amplification property in low, high and specific resonance frequency ranges. Comparison of this study to other results using different method can give us much more information about dynamic amplification of domestic sites characteristics and site classification.
