Pattern Design Development for Package Using Cloud-Treasure Pattern in Royal Wrapping Cloth (왕실 보자기의 운보문을 활용한 포장용 패턴디자인 개발)

  • This study developed a pattern design that is highly useful in the modern culture and tourism industry based on various formative elements that appeared in the cloud-treasure pattern on fabrics from the Joseon Dynasty. The cloud-treasure pattern has an auspicious meaning. Therefore, the wrapping cloth with this pattern symbolizes the meaning of giving a precious gift. There are many aesthetic and formative elements in royal culture that can be utilized in the development of various cultural products. Therefore, it has very high utility value even in modern times. We examined rare royal wrapping cloth and applied its formative characteristics to develop a popular package design. Through this, another possibility was presented in the convergence of traditional culture and design. In particular, we actively combined the pattern of wrapping cloth with the 2024 fashion trend to develop a unique and trendy pattern design. The main source of the pattern design is the silk jacquard wrapping cloth with cloud-treasure pattern, a relic of Princess Myeong-an owned by the Seoul Museum of Craft Art. The researcher directly examined the wrapping cloth to extract 14 design motifs and developed 6 types of trendy patterns by combining them with dot and ribbon patterns, which are pattern trends for 2024. Afterwards, the pattern was mapped onto a box package similar to a wrapping cloth and expressed virtually.

A study on the development of pattern design for the modernization of the plant pattern in the Joseon dynasty (조선시대 식물문양의 현대화를 위한 패턴디자인 개발 연구)

  • A pattern is a symbolic mark of the psychological expression and ornamental desire of the human interior. In particular, plant patterns, from ancient times to modern times, express beauty across both the east and the west. The Joseon dynasty had a strong national will, and it was a time when the symbolism of Korea was established. Plant patterns were decorative and symbolic, filled with meaning in both the textile and craft sectors. This study looked at the frequency and figurative characteristics of the types of plant patterns in textiles, ceramics, woodworking, and metal craftsmanship of the Joseon dynasty. In addition, pattern designs were developed by extracting unit patterns to maintain the original shape, and by adding, magnifying, reducing, and superimposing flat steps and employing the four-fold sequence. The data collected was 826 examples in textiles and crafts, and 34 species of plants were analyzed as follows. In general, the flower patterns preferred soft flowers, flowers, apricot, and peony patterns, and fruit patterns emerged as decorative designs for pottery and woodwork from the 17th century, featuring pomegranates, grapes, fluorines, peaches, and walnut floss. Textiles and woodwork were arranged with many circular designs, while pottery and metal crafts were filled in many ways. Expressive types appeared to be the same as stylistic types for textiles and ceramics, and the construction types were the same in pottery and metal crafts. As such, it was found that even in the different areas of the sculpture, the same aesthetic values were reflected in the common figurative features today. Therefore, in this study, we developed a unique and competitive pattern design that accommodates the modern times and the Joseon dynasty. This development is expected to contribute not only to the development of cultural and tourism products in the future, but also to the tourism industry induced by the Korean wave.

  • Identity of the place where the physical location and time and spatial context, and is structured as socially agreed symbols to build a consistent image, while fraught with Differentiation can be achieved through integration. And discrimination and the practical and effective deployment of an integrated image to be useful as a guide for the top design 'Design Guidelines' are, The findings, where the identity used to establish guidelines for the design for the following conclusions can be drawn. First, of public space design guidelines agreed upon by the public and social identity as the basis to establish a new identity as a contemporary and practical plan for this is to provide guidance. Second, the design guidelines in principle, the physical elements and activities of the parent and the temporal and spatial context and meaning were overridden. Third, the horizontal axis with respect to the identity and principles to guide development in the detail, and the vertical axis as a place to build an image in order for the specific design items are listed. Fourth, the guidelines can set a specific motif, and coverage including identity of the place. Fifth, by applying image and schematic the identity can be Implemented effectively and clearly. Without interfering with the designer's creativity and implement new image of the place, Design guidelines should study how a reasonable instructions.

  • Exhibition can be a type of mass-communication since it should contains some 'meaning' or 'message' that is to be delivered. The purpose of visiting museum is to view exhibits. Thus, factors, such as exhibits, exhibition media, show-case, direction signs, and gates, form visual perception, which means there exists homogeneity between visual perception and action. Visitors acquire knowledge by the space interaction when one can acknowledge the consecutive time flow while moving along the exhibition space. Visitors' movements can be formed by visual and perceptive experience that follows environmental stimulus and individual desire. Therefore, museum visitors experience certain shift flow with visual perception caused by the continuity of space. Thus, the research on development of focus in continuity is required. In addition, if the quality of exhibition space and organized continuity with visual diversity can be improved in exhibition design, it would expand the function of communication in exhibitions.

  • The purpose of this study is to advance apartment houses in quality as a residence through revitalization of tradition and the procedures are as follows: The first procedure is theoretical contemplation. The second procedure is analysis of the traditional residential space that gives a starting point of introspection of it without cease at the stage of formal following or pattern application in revitalizing tradition in the apartment houses. And the third procedure is to select and suggest aspects applicable to developing Korean style apartment houses. The suggest is embodied by a plane figure of 55 pyong type apartment house after selecting the concrete development aspects with approaches such as arrangement and interior space analysis, behavior analysis and space division and design analysis. This study has its meaning in that it suggests a possibility of various approaches other than formal following or pattern application in revitalizing tradition in a new Korean type apartment house, that it gives another selection to diversifying consumers' patterns and that it helps recognize and develop our tradition in this age of cultural nationalism.

  • The space is generally the discontinuation space without being understood agreed by some people. In this time, expressing transparency has various significances in furniture design because modern people want transparence and space due to the complication, numerous unreasonable facts and the lack of honesty in the society. Philip Johnson's Glass House in 1946 influenced architecture, interior, furniture and life article to use transparent materials and space that is being until currently development. The transparency which comes to be preferred clearly means to develop the society continuously. It can be more liberal, honest, and transparent society. The trend appeared in furniture design has meaning as the representative product. This research has perceptional transparency(visible transparency), abstract transparency through space(phenomenal transparency), overlap of surface element, display of line element, image using dot, and changing the image of various spaces.

  • Recently, social problem of teens becomes one of the important social issues. Adolescence is the intermediate stages of childhood and adulthood. Teens have not find their identity at this time. That reason is why teens and the old generation are disconnect. That arise from the development of industry and the nuclear family, entrance examination-oriented education system. So they are wandering in the popular culture and the cyber-space. Therefore, families, schools and state should have interesting and understanding for teens, and should strive that teens establish a self established identity. Specially, ethics education using traditional culture will help to establish their identity, and that provide self-esteem and pride about korean traditional culture. This is the reason why culture contents that is based on Korean traditional culture have to make for teens. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data that will help in the development Korean traditional cultural contents for teens. In this study, this researchers will search the following matters; first, what is ritual for Coming-of-age, second, various forms of ritual for Coming-of-age and Korean modern ritual in order to grasp the meaning of the ritual for Coming-of-age, third, costume and meaning of costume which has in both Kwan-Ryea as Korean traditional ritual for Coming-of-age and Korean modern ritual. This study will compare Kwan-Ryea with traditional ritual of modern.

A Study on the Development of Bamboo Decorating Tiles (죽세장식타일 개발 연구)

  • A new functional meaning has been given as natural resource to bamboo through reanalysis. Bamboo products contributed to creating added-value of pro-environment. In this study, a potential efficiency and vision of bamboo products and crafts are presented. As bamboo plywood and bamboo decorating paper were developed followed by academic and technological support, an activation of markets has been pursued and bamboo pattern tiles for new furniture was developed. This study examined kinds and characteristics of bamboo and processing of raw material and how to express with the material. Through advanced technology, it identified traditional functions and technological mistakes and analysed domestic and overseas applications to enhance utility of plywood made of bamboo. Bamboo pattern tiles were developed for decorating of furniture doors based on bamboo pattern paper. For patterns, 'tortoise, cranes, and deer'meaning eternity and new millenium among Ten Korean Longevity Animals are simply and lively represented. Series of the sun and mountain use effects of bamboo pieces to present bright images and to maximize quality of bamboo. A pattern of '卍'incorporates mystery of the cosmos and meaning of temples together with traditional patched wrapping cloth, Arirang and Chilgyopannori for beautiful ornamentation. Bamboo decorating tiles are made through accumulation of technologies by a cooperation with industries of bamboo equipment and production of furniture in Damyang Bamboo Products Complex. Processing of raw materials is peformed with equipment of Damyang. Development of samples and production and delivery of bamboo goods are handled in Design Venture of Chosun University Chamber. Developed goods decorating doors of furniture are in sale by an order from furniture industries.

  • The conventional boundaries between art and technology are being torn down by the development of science in the 21st century. It is fulfilling the convergence to emphasize two-way communication. This research is to study the aesthetic experience of the space design which appeared in the playful space of art and technology. The purpose of this study is to analyze the expression and characteristics of the art and technology applied for the playful space, to present the intrinsic value of aesthetic experience, and finally to focus on the necessity of aesthetic experience in modern society. In the Playful space of art and technology, research methods and settings of the range to study the aesthetic experience are as follows: First, establish a theoretical consideration about the concept and characteristics of the aesthetic experience, based on Philosophical theories. Second, analyze the meaning of art and the expression elements and characteristics by using technology. Third, discuss the concept of play and features of aesthetic experience in the playful space. Fourth, investigate analysis of the case studies, focused on the architecture and space design announced through the media recently. Finally, proposes the value for the applicability of aesthetic experience that appears playful space works affect us. I saw the aesthetic experience that appears playful space independent reaction and lead to behavioral changes and physical experience to maximize the effectiveness of participation. and it is to maximize a pleasurable experience, while increasing the commitment to participate in the space. Expressions using art and technology are activated by stimulation of the emotional experience, creating a new aesthetic experience. In the modern, the new environment is being created by the convergence of art and technology and it stimulates the imagination of art. Also, it has been newly regulated the meaning of human emotions and consciousness in the new space, surrounded by technology.

  • The 1990s' characteristics of Ecological architectural design would be choosing the traditional materials of the region's, the creative usage of construction methods, the expressive properties of materiality in spatial forms and so on. The overall organic relationships between human and men-made environments have been sublimated by the expression of poetic qualities of perception in ecological man-made environment. Hannover Expo 2000 did set up an opportunity to exposure the fact that Ecological Architecture will be the major trend in 21st Century's Architecture and its exploration in possible ways will be the most important matter. Japanese Architect Shigeru Ban's Japan Pavilion in this Exposition has shown the meaning of this turning point in Ecological Architectural thinking, which would be recognized as the convincing possibilities for the future architectural practice to the public. Thus this research has the purpose to study the meaning of the constructing action in Shigeru Ban's recent architectural space-making practice with the Paper Tube structural system. The creative foundation of Shigeru Ban's own method to apply paper tube -that is impossible material to pre-estimate- and other materials in the creation of architectural spaces would be searched in this paper. The period to this research will be between 1990s and 2000s, and the subject will be the experimental architecture of Shigeru Ban. The range of this research Is including the process of development in the paper tube architectural structure and joint system. This study would contribute to understand the intrinsic value of Shigeru Ban's Ecological architecture of the paper tube system, in which the relationship between the regional environment and human regaining the ecological abiogenesis.
