  • This study was attempted to identify the difference between nursing competencies and major satisfaction before and after the first clinical practice of nursing college students and use it as basic data for efficient clinical practice education. Data collection by single group pre- and post-design was conducted from February 18 to April 23, 2019 for 201 nursing college students before and after clinical practice for 8 weeks. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, paried t-test, and Pearson's Correlation, Multiple Regression using SPSS/Win 23.0. As a result of the study, Nursing competency increased after the first clinical practice than before, but it was not significant(t=-1.73, p=.084). Among the sub-factors of nursing competency, educational ability(t=-1.97, p=.050) and ethical practical ability(t=-209, p=.038) was found to increase significantly. Major satisfaction was significantly increased after clinical practice than before(t=-2.45, p=.015). After clinical practice, it was found that general satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, and recognition satisfaction which are sub-factors of major satisfaction, had a positive correlation with nursing competency. As a result of analyzing the impact on nursing competency, it was found that recognition satisfaction explains nursing competency as 9.9%. Therefore, it is necessary to reorganize the clinical practice curriculum that can improve nursing competency, develop a program that can improve major satisfaction, and verify the effectiveness.

  • We conducted a study to identify the relationships between the investigated factors and provide a methodology and generate data by applying deterioration classes to the Seonjaryeong Forest Trail (4.3 km) in the Baekdudaegan Ridge. The average trail width (1.7 m) and bare width (1.4 m) were wider than those obtained in the previous studies. The frequency of trail deterioration was also high. Specific data on deterioration classes were obtained and evaluated using qualitative criteria. Specific data for heavy class stands at 20.1% in trail grade, 13.3 cm on average, and 16.1 cm in the center of erosion depth, 16.2 cm of CSA, 12.3 kg/cm (20.1 mm) on average and maximum 39.3 kg/cm (29.6 mm) of soil hardness. We observed a positive correlation between the deterioration class and trail grade, and the average and maximum soil erosion depths of the hill side were deeper than those of the ridge. The soil hardness data showed a statistically significant difference in terms of the transect site and calculation method (㎏/㎠, mm). Therefore, trail deterioration was observed at the sites having ≥20% trail grade; thus, continuous monitoring at fixed sites over time will be required for sustainability. Furthermore, the trail grade should be of the utmost priority in trail design and management.

  • In the previous study, both the wave characteristics at the tip of composite breakwater and on caisson were investigated by applying olaFlow numerical model of three-dimensional regular waves. In this paper, the same numerical model and layout/shape of composite breakwater as applied the previous study under the action of one directional irregular waves were used to analyze two and three-dimensional spatial change of wave force including the impulsive breaking wave pressure applied to trunk of breakwater, the effect of rear region, and the occurrence of diffracted waves at the tip of caisson located on the high crested rubble mound. In addition, the frequency spectrum, mean significant wave height, mean horizontal velocity, and mean turbulent kinetic energy through the numerical analysis were studied. In conclusion, the larger wave pressure occurs at the front wall of caisson around the still water level than the original design conditions when it generates the shock-crushing wave pressure in three-dimensional analysis condition. Which was not occurred by two-dimensional analysis. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the wave pressure distribution at the caisson changes along the length of breakwater when the same significant incident wave was applied to the caisson. Although there is difference in magnitude, but its variation shows the similar tendency with the case of previous study.

  • Objectives: Frailty and sarcopenia are recent important concepts in elder health care. Sarcopenia is the most important factor influencing frailty, and exercise and nutritional status are known to affect sarcopenia. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between nutritional status, sarcopenia, and frailty. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional design. The subjects of this study were 411 elderly people aged 65 or older from 10 villages in Gyeongnam. The survey tools were the K-FRAIL for frailty, the GDS-SF for depression, the SARC-F questionnaire for sarcopenia, and the DETERMINE for nutritional status. Frequency analysis, the chi-square test, and multiple logistic regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 25.0 program. Results: As a result of the chi-square test, there was a significant difference in the nutritional status and the frailty proportion (p<0.001), and there was a significant difference between frailty and suspected sarcopenia (p<0.001). After adjustment, nutritional status was significantly associated with sarcopenia (OR=2.946, p<0.001). In addition, nutritional status was significantly associated with frailty (OR=2.958, p<0.001), and sarcopenia also had a significant effect on frailty (OR=5.898, p<0.001). Finally, even after including sarcopenia, nutritional status had a significant effect on frailty (OR=2.246, p=0.002). Conclusions: Nutritional status can have both a direct effect on frailty and an indirect effect through sarcopenia, and it was found that sarcopenia also affects frailty. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate sarcopenia and nutritional status and to evaluate their levels in the elderly and to take appropriate interventions.

  • Urban stormwater runoff contains heavy metals that accumulate in on-site treatment systems, thus resulting to facility deterioration and maintenance problems. In order to resolve these problems, low impact development (LID) technologies that promote natural materials circulation are widely used. LID facilities are capable of treating heavy metals in the runoff by means of plant uptake; however, the uptake or phytoremediation capabilities of plants have not been studied extensively, making it difficult to select the most suitable plant species for a certain LID design. This study investigated the vegetative components of an LID facility, roadside plants, and plants in landscape areas with different heavy metal exposure and frequency to determine the uptake capabilities of different plant species. The plants harvested inside the LID facilities and roadsides with high vehicular traffic exhibited greater heavy metal concentrations in their tissues as compared with the plants in landscape areas. Generally, the accumulation of heavy metals in the plant tissues were found to be influenced by the environmental characteristics (i.e. influent water quality, air pollution level, etc.). Dianthus, Metasequoia, Rhododendron lateritium, and Mugwort were found to be effective in removing Zn in the urban stormwater runoff. Additionally, Dianthus, Metasequoia, Mugwort, and Ginkgo Biloba exhibited excellent removal of Cu. Cherry Tree, Metasequoia, and mugwort efficiently removed Pb, whereas Dianthus was also found to be effective in treating As, Cr, and Cd in stormwater. Overall, different plant species showed varying heavy metal uptake capabilities. The results of this study can be used as an effective tool in selecting suitable plant species for removing heavy metals in the runoff from different land use types.

  • Metamaterials are complexes of elements that can create properties not found in naturally occurring materials, such as changing the direction of forces, creating negative stiffness, or altering vibration and impact properties. In the case of wood pile metamaterials that are easy to manufacture and have excellent performance in reducing vibration and shock in the vertical direction, basic research on variables affecting shock transmission is needed to reduce shock. Although research on impact reduction according to geometrical factors is being conducted recently, studies on the effect of material variables on impact reduction are insufficient. In this paper, finite element analysis was carried out by variablizing the geometrical properties (lamination angle, diameter, length) and material properties (modulus of elasticity, specific gravity, Poisson's ratio) of wood pile cylinders. Through finite element analysis, the shape of the wooden pile cylinder delivering impact was confirmed, and the effect of each variable on the reduction of impact force and energy was considered through main effect diagram analysis, and frequency band analysis was performed through fast Fourier transform. proceeded In order to reduce the impact force and vibration, it was found that the variables affecting the contact area of t he cylinder have a significant effect.

  • Wave observations using a marine X-band radar are conducted by analyzing the backscattered radar signal from sea surfaces. Wave parameters are extracted using Modulation Transfer Function obtained from 3D wave number and frequency spectra which are calculated by 3D FFT of time series of sea surface images (42 images per minute). The accuracy of estimation of the significant wave height is, therefore, critically dependent on the quality of radar images. Wave observations during Typhoon Maysak and Haishen in the summer of 2020 show large errors in the estimation of the significant wave heights. It is because of the deteriorated radar images due to raindrops falling on the sea surface. This paper presents the algorithm developed to increase the accuracy of wave heights estimation from radar images by adopting convolution neural network(CNN) which automatically classify radar images into rain and non-rain cases. Then, an algorithm for deriving the Hs is proposed by creating different ANN models and selectively applying them according to the rain or non-rain cases. The developed algorithm applied to heavy rain cases during typhoons and showed critically improved results.

  • This study aimed to determine the effects of dietary microalgae (Tetradesmus sp. (TO)) on intestinal immunity and microbiota of pre-starter broilers. One hundred and twenty 1-day-old birds (Ross 308) were allocated to two dietary treatment groups with six blocks in a randomized complete block design. The two experimental diets consisted of a corn-soybean meal-based basal diet and a diet with 0.5% TO powder instead of cornstarch in the basal diet. After feeding the experimental diets for ten days, all birds' body weight and feed intake were measured, and representative eight birds were selected from each treatment group. Small intestinal lamina propria cells were isolated using flow cytometry to examine the frequency of immune cells. Cecal feces were harvested for 16s rRNA gut microbiota analysis and fecal IgA levels. Here, we found that 0.5% TO supplementation increased CD3+CD4+ T cells in the small intestine, but decreased CD3+CD8+ T cells in the small intestine. Gut microbial analysis showed that TO supplementation significantly increased the alpha diversity of the gut microbiome. Taxonomic analysis showed that TO treatment increased the abundance of Firmicutes and decreased that of Bacteroidetes at the phylum level. The distribution of Enterobacteriaceae containing many harmful bacteria at the family level, was lower in the TO group. In the LEfSe analysis, the TO group had a significantly enriched abundance of Agathobaculum at the genus level. Overall, results show that Tetradesmus sp. supplementation influences intestinal T-cell immunity and induces the expansion of beneficial gut microbes in pre-starter broiler chickens.
