In a HTS transformer, the perpendicular component of magnetic flux density ($B_r$) applied to HTS tapes of pancake windings becomes larger than that of solenoid winding, thereby decreasing the critical current in the HTS tapes. This paper introduces several methods to reduce $B_r$ applied to the HTS tapes in the transformer with double pancake windings by changing winding arrangements and the relative permeability of flux diverters. We have conducted a winding design for a single-phase 1MVA 22.9kV/6.6kV HTS transformer. We observed a change of $B_r$ due to a variation of gap-length between the high voltage windings and the low voltage windings, reciprocal arrangement and an increase of the number of the high voltage pancake. We also observed a change of Br on the HTS tapes due to variation of the relative permeability of flux diverters placed between the high voltage winding and the low voltage winding. Finally, we have designed a 1MVA 22.9kV/6.6kV HTS transformer winding using suggested methods and calculated transformer parameters by the 3D finite element method.

Variable length code is an integral component of many international standards on image and video compression currently. Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding(CAVLC) is adopted by the emerging JVT(also called H.264, and AVC in MPEG-4). In this paper, we design an architecture for CAVLC encoder, including a coeff_token encoder, level encoder, total_zeros encoder and run_before encoder. The designed CAVLC encoder can encode one syntax element in one clock cycle. As a result of implementation by Vertex-1000e of Xilinx, its operation frequency is 68MHz. Therefore, it is very suitable for video applications that require high throughput.

Manufacturing process for milli components has recently gained researcher's focus with the increasing tendency toward highly integrated and micro-scaled parts for electronic devices. The milli-components cannot be formed by the conventional manufacturing process since the parts require higher dimensional accuracy than the conventional ones. In order to enhance the forming accuracy and productivity, various forming procedures proposed and studied by many researchers. In this paper, forming analysis of milli-components has been studied with a new micro-former. In modeling of progressive dies, multi-stage forming sequence has been analyzed with finite element analysis by LS-DYNA3D. The analysis proposes the sequential die and part shapes with the corresponding punch force and dimensional accuracy. The analysis also considers the effect of elastic dies on the dimensional accuracy of the formed parts. The analysis result demonstrates that the elastic analysis in the milli-forming process is indispensable fur accurate forming analysis. The analysis procedure in the paper will provide good information in design of a new micro-former and milli-component.

Seismic safety is more important for large spatial structure such as theaters, stadiums, gymnasiums since these structure are public goods. It is, however, difficult to understand behavior taking place when large spatial structure which has variety of structural system and shape receives seismic load. On this study, the natural vibration mode of arch structure which is main structural element of the large spatial structure, is checked. And then, when the artificial earthquake ground motion is applied to arch structure, it is more affective by long period component than magnitude of design acceleration spectrum.

In the design of structure the forces acting on the structure are important parameter for noise and vibration control. However, in the complex structure, the forces at the injection pomt on the structure cannot be measured directly. Thus it is necessary to find out indirect force evaluation method. In thls paper forces have been measured with in-situ vibration responses and system information. Three existing techniques of indirect force measurement, viz. direct inverse, principal component analysis and regularization have been compared. It has been shown that multi-vibration responses are essential for the precise estimation of the forces. To satisfy those cond~tions, Rotary compressor is adopted as test sample, because it is very difficult to measurc the injection forces from internal excitat~on to shell. It has also been obtained that relatively higher force IS transmitted through three welding paths to the compressor shell. It shows a good agreement between direct and indirect force evaluation wlth curvature shell and plate and is investigated the possibility of force evaluation of rotary compressor as a complex structure.

Green vehicles include electric vehicles, natural gas vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). In FCVs, pressure vessels have cylinder valves to control hydrogen flow. These valves should be of high quality in terms of safety because hydrogen is stored at ultra-high pressure in pressure vessels. Hence, safety evaluation of these valves is necessary to secure the safety of the FCV. A structural analysis of the cylinder valve was conducted in this study by using a commercial finite element analysis code. The results showed that the safety factor of valve component ranged 1.06-186.44. After categorizing, the stress components at critical points of the cylinder valve parts were evaluated using the corresponding allowable design criteria in the ASME code. The pressurization cycle test was performed as per the regulation to evaluate the safety of the valve.
The high pressure hoses are widely used for the vehicles, aircraft, and overall industries. The hose assembly is generally composed of a nipple, a socket and a hose with reinforcement layers to increase the tensile strength. To produce the hose assembly, crimping or swaging process is usually used to clamp its components to ensure the prevention of fluid leakage. Crimping is a cold-working technique to form a strong bond between the workpiece and a non-metallic component. The crimping stroke is a primary parameter to be determined in the metalworking process, and it plays an important role in hose performance. This study aims at investigating the optimal crimping stroke according to the size of aircraft high pressure hose by using MSC/MARC. It is supposed that the results can be useful to get the information about the crimping stroke in manufacturing process, even with the different size of a hose.

Pressure oscillations triggered by the unstable interaction of dynamic flow features of the hydraulic turbine with the hydraulic plant system - including the electrical design - can at times reach significant levels and could lead to damage of plant components or could reduce component lifetime significantly. Such a problem can arise for overload as well as for part load operation of the turbine. This paper discusses an approach to analyze the overload high pressure oscillation problem using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling of the hydraulic machine combined with a network modeling technique of the hydraulic system. The key factor in this analysis is the determination of the overload vortex rope volume occurring within the turbine under the runner which is acting as an active element in the system. Two different modeling techniques to compute the flow field downstream of the runner will be presented in this paper. As a first approach, single phase flow simulations are used to evaluate the vortex rope volume before moving to more sophisticated modeling which incorporates two phase flow calculations employing cavitation modeling. The influence of these different modeling strategies on the simulated plant behavior will be discussed.
Nonlinear dynamic analysis is performed to calculate the response of U-shaped cantilever retaining structure under seismic loading using the finite element (FE) analysis program OpenSees. A particular interest of the study is to evaluate whether the moment demand in the cantilever can be accurately predicted, because it is an important component in the seismic design. The numerical model is validated against a centrifuge test that was performed on cantilever walls with dry medium dense sand in backfill. Seismic analysis is performed using the pressure-dependent, multi-yield-surface, plasticity based soil constitutive model implemented in OpenSees. Normal springs are used to simulate the soil-structure interface. Comparison with centrifuge show that FE analysis provides good estimates of both the acceleration response and bending moment. The lateral earth pressure near the bottom of the wall is overestimated in the numerical model, but this does not contribute to a higher prediction of the moment.
A comprehensive simulation model for the transport process of fully coupled moisture and multi-species in non-saturated concrete structures is proposed. The governing equations of moisture and ion diffusion are formulated based on Fick's law and the Nernst-Planck equation, respectively. The governing equations are modified by explicitly including the coupling terms corresponding to the coupled mechanisms. The ionic interaction-induced electrostatic potential is described by electroneutrality condition. The model takes into account the two-way coupled effect of moisture diffusion and ion transport in concrete. The coupling parameters are evaluated based on the available experimental data and incorporated in the governing equations. Differing from previous researches, the material parameters related to moisture diffusion and ion transport in concrete are considered not to be constant numbers and characterized by the material models that account for the concrete mix design parameters and age of concrete. Then, the material models are included in the numerical analysis and the governing equations are solved by using finite element method. The numerical results obtained from the present model agree very well with available test data. Thus, the model can predict satisfactorily the ingress of deicing salts into non-saturated concrete.
