This study reviews the process of creating the patterns through the Christopher Alexander's books to discover the fundamental rules for creation of the pattern language. The essential ideas of 11 rules describing the characteristics of the pattern language are organized by keyword depending on the characteristics of each rule. Then, this study analyzes which keyword was applied importantly and how it had been developed chronologically in the Alexander's books. As a result, 5 keywords - reflection of cultural difference, reflection of human desires, solving the repeated problem, function suitable for principal purpose, and network structure - are applied to his early books in which the pattern language was theoretically developed, the pattern of traditional society was discovered and the network structure was developed. Another 5 keywords - user participation method, new problem solving, structure preserving transformation, post-mechanization method, and central invariant structure - are applied to the books in his mid-term after completion of the pattern theory which discover new pattern for contemporary society and apply the pattern language to time and space. In his later books which organize the theory of pattern language and suggest the direction for using the pattern language, 5 keywords - wholeness, post-mechanization method, user participation method, new problem solving, and structure preserving transformation - are applied. Users may use the pattern language more precisely if he/she considers the keywords of the early period in searching the patterns of existing environment, the keywords of the intermediate period in searching the patterns of new environment or in regard to time and space, and the keywords of the later period in considering direction of the application of the pattern language.

The Smart Home or intelligent home network control system has the need for home devices to cooperate for the purpose of providing the automated services to residents. The cooperation of home devices can be defined as the service for residents that it controls simultaneously two or more home devices with the same purpose about user's control request of specific home device. A object of home device cooperation are the function object of home device, it is well defined in each device model in AHAM(Association of Home Appliance Manufactures) nth(Connected Home Appliances). AMAM CHA is to promote new appliance services and features enabled through networking by describing generic appliance models, objects, and high-level messages, but does not consider the description and process of cooperation between objects of each device model. This paper defines the cooperation relationship that could be discovered in among home devices, and proposes the cooperation model that AHAM objects could process the cooperation relationship.
Because most metricsin the literatures are described by a natural language, they can be interpreted in an ambigous manner. To cope with this problem, there are some researches to express based on Object Constraint Language(OCL). Because OCL has been proposed to describe structural constraintsfor Unified Modeling Language(UML) diagrams, it is difficult and awkward. In this paper, we propose Metric Description Language(MDL) which is a high level language to describe metrics. MDL supports a modular description of complex metrics, aggregation function, and automatic navigation between entities. Moreover, we develop MetriUs for describing metrics using MDL and supporting an automated computation for UML diagrams. In a case study, we have described a variety of existing metrics using MDL and found that MDL contributes to producing simpler expression of metrics than OCL.
Infiltration is one of the important processes of the hydrologic cycle determining the distribution of water and has been studied extensively. Various theories and models proposed for this process are usually applicable only when the rainfall intensity is higher than the infiltration capacity. The study by Diskin and Nazimov (1995, 1996) suggested a conceptual infiltration model that comprises two elements. The model can make an reasonable approach to the infiltration process, instead of representing the infiltration as a function of time. The study presented herein improved the existing conceptual infiltration model by an additional consideration of the initial moisture contents. The analysis results for the variation of the infiltration capacity curries for various initial moisture contents demonstrate that the model is more reasonable for the approach to the infiltration process. In addition, the results for the relationship of stormwater events-ponding time are compared with the literature values of that for a number of soil types. The agreement is rather good, leading to the conclusion that the improved model is vapid for describing the infiltration process.
Magneto-rheological fluid (MRF) rotatory dampers are normally used for controlling the constant rotation of machines and engines. In this research, such a device is proposed to act as variable stiffness device to alleviate the rotational oscillation existing in the many engineering applications, such as motor. Under such thought, the main purpose of this work is to characterize the nonlinear torque-angular displacement/angular velocity responses of an MRF based variable stiffness device in oscillatory motion. A rotational hysteresis model, consisting of a rotatory spring, a rotatory viscous damping element and an error function-based hysteresis element, is proposed, which is capable of describing the unique dynamical characteristics of this smart device. To estimate the optimal model parameters, a modified whale optimization algorithm (MWOA) is employed on the captured experimental data of torque, angular displacement and angular velocity under various excitation conditions. In MWOA, a nonlinear algorithm parameter updating mechanism is adopted to replace the traditional linear one, enhancing the global search ability initially and the local search ability at the later stage of the algorithm evolution. Additionally, the immune operation is introduced in the whale individual selection, improving the identification accuracy of solution. Finally, the dynamic testing results are used to validate the performance of the proposed model and the effectiveness of the proposed optimization algorithm.

In this research, numerical analysis was performed to determine the effects of hydrogen on biogas combustion for homogeneous charged compression ignition (HCCI) engines. The target engine specifications were a 2300cc displacement volume, 13:1 compression ratio, 15kW of electricity, and 1.2 bar boost pressure. The engine speed was fixed to 1800rpm. By varying the excess air ratio and hydrogen contents, the cylinder pressure, nitric oxide, and carbon dioxide were measured as a function of the hydrogen contents. According to preliminary studies related to the reaction mechanism for methane combustion and oxidation, a GRI 3.0 mechanism as the base mechanism was selected for HCCI combustion calculations describing the detailed reaction mechanism. By adding hydrogen, NO was increased while $CO_2$ was decreased. The cylinder pressure was also increased, having advanced timing for the maximum cylinder pressure and pressure rise region. Furthermore, lean operation limits were extended by adding hydrogen to the HCCI engine.

The semiconductor and display equipment demands an ultra-fine precision of several nm to several ㎛, and the scale is getting smaller due to the explosive development. The manufacturing process equipment for such products with ultra-fine precision is very sensitive to ultra-small vibrations flowing from the floor, resulting in problems of production defects and yield degradation. The vibration criteria are a standard that regulates the vibration environment of the floor where such precision process equipment will be installed. The BBN vibration criteria defined the allowable vibration velocity level in the frequency domain with a flat and inclined line and presented a rating according to it. However, the actual vibration criteria have appeared with various magnitudes in the frequency domain according to the dynamic characteristics of individual equipment. In this study, the relationship between the relative motion of two major points in the equipment and the vibration magnitude of the floor is presented using the frequency response function of a simple 3-DOF model. It is describing the magnitudes according to the frequency of the floor vibration that guarantees the allowable relative motion and this can be used as the vibration criteria. In order to obtain the vibration criteria experimentally a method of extracting through a modal test was introduced and verified analytically. It provides vulnerable frequency and magnitude to floor vibration in consideration of the dynamic characteristics of individual equipment. And it is possible to know necessary to improve the dynamic characteristics of the equipment, and it can be used to check the vibration compatibility of the place where the equipment will be installed.
In the content-based video retrieval applications, the information on the movement of an object can be used as important in classifying the content. In particular, analyzing and classifying human movement can be used for various purposes as well as retrieval. In this paper, a method to improve the performance of the shape variation descriptor and shape sequence to describe and classify movement using shape information that changes according to the movement of an object is proposed. By selecting a shape descriptor to more efficiently describe the shape information of an object and comparing the distance function used to measure the similarity, the description and retrieval efficiency of movement information can be increased. Through experiments, it was shown that the proposed method can describe movement information more efficiently and increase the retrieval efficiency compared to the previous method.

This is the third part of the four-part paper describing the development of a packet-switched computer communication network named the KORNET. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of the X.25 protocol connecting packet mode data terminal equipments(PDTE's) with data circuit terminating equipments(DCE's). In the KORNET, the X.25 protocol has been implemented on the line processing module-A(LPMA) of the network node processor(NNP). In the implementation of X.25, we have divided the software module according to the service function, and have determined the the rules that interact between the modules. Each layer protocol has been developed using the technique of the finite state machine. Before the actual coding of softwares, we hafve used formal software development tools based on the specification and description language (SDL) and program design languate (PDL) recommended by the CCITT. In addition, for the efficient operation of the X.25 protocol system we have analyzed the system performance and the service scheduling method of each module. The results will also be given.
Due to the common dietary practice of preparing foods in various ways using the same food item, in addition to rather a large number of food items that average Koreans consume, it is difficult to accurately assess the nutritional adequacy. In an effort to identify a reliable means of assessing the nutritional adequacy of Korean adults, we analyzed the association between the scores of dietary diversity (DDS) and dietary variety (DVS), and the quality of nutrient intake as assessed by Nutrient Adequacy Ratio (NAR) and Mean Adequacy Ratio (MAR). A three day-dietary record was obtained from each of 324 inhabitants, aged 40 to 69 years (mean :t SD,52.4 $\pm$ 8.7), of a rural area (Ansung) and a mid-sized city (Ansan) of Korea. These individuals were randomly selected among the participants of the Korean Health and Genome Study. The number of consumed foods and food groups were assesses by DDS (scored 1 to 5) and DVS (ranked 30 $\leq$,31 - 40, 41 - 50, 51 - 60, and 60 <) over three-day period, respectively. As DDS/DVS increased, mean daily food intakes tended to increase, and NARIMAR was improved. Thus, DDS and DVS were significantly correlated with the quality of nutrient intake. Over 95% of the subjects scored less than 2 in DDS for the first one-day period, whilst over 62% recorded 4 during the full three-day period (p < .0001). The mean number of consumed food items increased from 24.9 to 44.4 as a function of days of the record period (p < .0001). We also analyzed the association of DDS and DVS with MAR, using regression analysis, controlling age and sex as covariates. For DDS, the adjusted coefficient determination (adj $R^2$) values were 8.7%,15.8%,23.3% of MAR, also increasing as a function of the record duration, whereas they were 27.3%, 33.3%, 37.6% for DVS, respectively, demonstrating that NAR/MAR has a better correlation with DVS than DDS. Our data show that DDS, and DVS in particular, are useful parameters for evaluating nutrient intake in the Korean population. Our data also support that one day-dietary records are by no means adequate for accurately describing a wide variety of food choices offered for average Koreans, and that dietary assessment at least for 3 days or longer should be obtained for a reliable evaluation of dietary quality using DDS or DVS.
