GIS Application Model for Spatial Simulation of Surface Runoff from a Small Watershed(I) (소유역 지표유출의 공간적 해석을 위한 지리정보시스템의 응용모형(I) -격자 물수지 모형의 개발 및 적용-)

  • Geographic data which are difficult to handle by the characteristics of spatial variation and variety turned into a possibility to analyze with tlie computer-aided digital map and the use of Geographic Information System(GIS). The purpose of this study is to develop and apply a GIS application model (GISCELWAB) for the spatial simulation of surface runoff from a small watershed. This paper discribes the modeling procedure and the applicability of the cell water balance model (CELWAB) which calculates the water balance of a cell and simulates surface runoff of watershed simultaneously by the interaction of cells. The cell water balance model was developed to simulate the temporal and spatial storage depth and surface runoff of a watershed. The CELWAB model was constituted by Inflow-Outflow Calculator (JOC) which was developed to connect cell-to-cell transport mechanism automatically in this study. The CELWAB model requests detail data for each component of a cell hydrologic process. In this study, therefore, BANWOL watershed which have available field data was selected, and sensitivity for several model parameters was analyzed. The simulated results of surface runoff agreed well with the observed data for the rising phase of hydrograph except the recession phase. Each mean of relative errors for peak discharge and peak time was 0.21% and2.1 1% respectively. In sensitivity analysis of CELWAB , antecedent soil moisture condition(AMC) affected most largely the model.

Space Charge Behavior of Oil-Impregnated Paper Insulation Aging at AC-DC Combined Voltages

  • The space charge behaviors of oil-paper insulation affect the stability and security of oil-filled converter transformers of traditional and new energies. This paper presents the results of the electrical aging of oil-impregnated paper under AC-DC combined voltages by the pulsed electro-acoustic technique. Data mining and feature extractions were performed on the influence of electrical aging on charge dynamics based on the experiment results in the first stage. Characteristic parameters such as total charge injection and apparent charge mobility were calculated. The influences of electrical aging on the trap energy distribution of an oil-paper insulation system were analyzed and discussed. Longer electrical aging time would increase the depth and energy density of charge trap, which decelerates the apparent charge mobility and increases the probability of hot electron formation. This mechanism would accelerate damage to the cellulose and the formation of discharge channels, enhance the acceleration of the electric field distortion, and shorten insulation lifetime under AC-DC combined voltages.

  • The present study deals with the management of groundwater resources of an important agriculture track of north-western part of Saudi Arabia. Due to strategic importance of the area efforts have been made to estimate aquifer proneness to attenuate contamination. This includes determining hydrodynamic behavior of the groundwater system. The important parameters of any vulnerability model are geological formations in the region, depth to water levels, soil, rainfall, topography, vadose zone, the drainage network and hydraulic conductivity, land use, hydrochemical data, water discharge, etc. All these parameters have greater control and helps determining response of groundwater system to a possible contaminant threat. A widely used DRASTIC model helps integrate these data layers to estimate vulnerability indices using GIS environment. DRASTIC parameters were assigned appropriate ratings depending upon existing data range and a constant weight factor. Further, land-use pattern map of study area was integrated with vulnerability map to produce pollution risk map. A comparison of DRASTIC model was done with GOD and AVI vulnerability models. Model validation was done with $NO_3$, $SO_4$ and Cl concentrations. These maps help to assess the zones of potential risk of contamination to the groundwater resources.

  • Plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission that is produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalk from adjacent sub-pixels. Mold for forming barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing process such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. Mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring stripes of glass-material wall. In this paper. Stripes of grooves of which width 48 um, depth 124um, pitch 274um was acquired by machining the material of WC with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom and sidewall of the grooves was respectively 120 nm, 287 nm. Maximum tilt angle caused by difference between upper-most width and lower-most width was 2$^{\circ}$. Maximum Radius of curvature of bottom was 7.75 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. This results meets the specification for barrier ribs of 50 inch XGA PDP. Forming the glass paste will be followed by using mold in the near future.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide with information for the water resources development and management in stream management planning, such as information on the sediment trensport, design of dam and water facilities, river improvement and flood plains management. The major results obtained from the field measurement and analysis of the watershed characteristics, hydraulic and sediment characteristics are as follows ; 1. The rating curve formulas obtained from the analysis of the hydraulic characteristics data collected are ; Q-=110.563 $(H-0.474)^2$ for 0.7m$(H-0.146)^2$ for 0.4m$Sr=aX{^2} {_1} X^{c}{_2}$, in the experimental watershed.

  • Recently, the mass production of Energy storage system (ESS) is actively perform around world. Energy storage system is a technique that stores power to energy storage device to supply energy into grid and load at peak-load. Therefore, the efficient energy management is available by using ESS system. The life of Lithium-ion battery is varied corresponding to the power usage, especially selected depth of discharge (DOD). The lifetime of battery is the one of the most issue of the ESS system because of its stability and reliability. Therefore, lifetime management of battery and power converter of ESS module is required. In this paper, the battery lifetime management method estimating residual power and lifetime of lithium ion battery of ESS system is proposed. Also, total avenue prediction of ESS system is simulated considering the total lifetime of battery.

  • This paper presents an atmospheric micro glow plasma-jet device. The device consists of four components; a thin Ni anode, a porous alumina insulater, a stainless steel cathode and an aluminum case. The Ni anode is fabricated using micromachining technology. The anode has 10 holes, of which the hole diameter and the depth are $250{\mu}m$ and $60{\mu}m$, respectively. The discharge test is performed in nitrogen gas at atmospheric pressure for 20 kHz AC bias. The breakdown voltage is 3.5 kV at gas flow rate of 4 L/min and the the plasma-jet is blown out to ambient at 5.5 kV. In order to verify the characteristics of plasma, the current and the voltage of device are measured. The maximum temperature of plasma is $37^{\circ}C$. The plasma is well generated and stable at high voltage.

Cell-balancing Algorithm for Paralleled Battery Cells using State-of-Charge Comparison Rule

  • The inconsistencies between paralleled battery cells are becoming more considerable issue in high capacity battery applications like electric vehicles. Due to differences in state-of-charge (SOC) and internal resistance within individual cells in parallel, charging or discharging current is not appropriately balanced to each cell in terms of SOC, which may shorten the lifetime or sometimes cause safety issues. In this paper, an intelligent cell-balancing algorithm is proposed to overcome the inconsistency issue especially for paralleled battery cells. In this scheme, SOC information collected in the sub-BMS module is sent to the main-BMS module, where the number of parallel cells to be connected to DC bus is continuously updated based on the suggested SOC comparison rule. To verify the method, operation of the algorithm on 4 paralleled battery cells are simulated on Matlab/Simulink. The simulation result shows that the SOCs of paralleled cells are evenly redistributed. It is expected that the proposed algorithm provides high reliable and prolong the life cycle and working capacity of the battery pack.

Effect of Length of Outfall Structure on Reattachment of Thermal Discharge (온수방류의 귀환에 방류구 길이의 영향)

  • The reattachment of buoyant effluent to shore in a crossflow is investigated experimentally. The effluent is produced by discharging warm water through projecting side channel into a confined cross-flow of the same depth. In the projecting effluent, the size of recirculating region, which is formed by defleted thermal plume on the lee of the effluent, tends to increase, but the maximum temperature decreases in the direction of the crossflow and it has more even transverse spreading compared to non-projecting type. The heat flux across the crossflow is found to be independant of the projected length of the side channel under relatively low buoyancy flux on the contrary to high buoyancy flux. The reattachment of the effluent can be specified by both velocity ratio and densimetric Froude number, whereas only the velocity ratio is governing factor to the reattachment of the effluent in the case of non-projecting type.

The mold for forming the barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing processes such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. The mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring glass-material wall. In this paper, Stripes of grooves of which width 48${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, depth 124$\mu\textrm{m}$ , pitch 274$\mu\textrm{m}$ was acquired by machining of single crystal silicon with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom of the grooves was 59.6nm Ra in grooving Si. Barrier ribs were formed with silicone rubber mold, which is transferred from grooved Si forming hard mold. Silicone rubber mold has the elasticity, which enable to accommodate the waveness of lower glass plate of PDP. The methods assisted by the microwave and UV was adopted for reducing the forming time of glass paste.
