A Model Tree technique of data mining was applied to derive optimal equations for sediment discharge assessment based on the measured sediment data and then to evaluate stable channel design for Naesung Stream. The sediment discharge formula as a function of channel width, velocity, depth, slope and median grain diameter which was developed by a Model Tree technique with sediment discharge data measured in Korean River had a high goodness-of-fit between measured and calculated results. In case of the sediment discharge formula as a function of channel width, velocity, depth and median grain diameter which was developed by a Model Tree technique with sediment discharge data only measured in Naesung Stream represented the highest goodness-of-fit. Two types of sediment discharge formulas were applied to evaluate stable channel analysis for Yonghyeol Station of Naesung Stream. As a result, bed erosion was expected in the study section compared to the current section. It was also presented that the be slope might be changed to be a milder slope than the current slope to reach equilibrium condition in the long term.
In order to establish fundamental data for stream restoration and environmental flow, we investigated optimal ecological flowrate (OEF) and riverine health condition in the Chogang Stream, a tributary to Geum River, Korea. The number of fish individuals sampled in this period were 4,669 in 36 species of 9 families. The most abundant species was Korean chub (Zacco koreanus, 34.0%) followed by pale chub (Z. platypus, 22.6%) and Korean shinner (Coreoleuciscus splendidus, 13.3%). Index of biological integrity (IBI) and qualitative habitat evaluation index (QHEI) values decreased from upstream to downstream along the stream. The estimated IBI value ranged from 27.9 to 38.6 with average 32.2 out of 50, rendering the site ecologically fair to good health conditions. OEF was estimated by the physical habitat simulation system (PHABSIM) using the habitat suitability indexes (HSI) of three fish species Z. koreanus, C. splendidus and Pseudopungtungia nigra selected as indicator species. In Z. koreanus, HSI for flow velocity and water depth were estimated at 0.1 to 0.4 m/s and 0.2 to 0.4 m, respectively. In P. nigra, HSI for flow velocity, water depth and substrate size were estimated at 0.2 to 0.5 m/s and 0.4 to 0.6 m and fine gravel to cobbles, respectively. OEF values increasing from up to downstream was found to increase, weighted usable area (WUA) values increased accordingly.
This paper presents a quasi-steady model for numerical simulations of reservoir sedimentation and reservoir flushing. The quasi-steady model is based on the assumption that the flow is steady with time-dependent stream morphology change. This is reasonable because stream morphology changes over a long period, while the flow changes rapidly. The proposed model is first applied to two laboratory experiments for reservoir sedimentation. The channel is shown to be adjusted to new sediment supply at the upstream by changing both the flow depth and slope. Simulated water surface and bed profiles compare favorably to measured data. The model is also applied to reservoir flushing. Good agreement between simulated and measured data is not obtained due to time variation of outflow generated to facilitate the flushing in the experiment. Finally, relationships for equilibrium flow depth and bed slope are proposed and tested through numerical experiments.
Hydraulic habitat analysis of Benthic Macroinvertebrates was performed at Gapyeong stream. Among the kinds of the Benthic Macroinvertebrates, the most representative ones are the Ecdyonurus kibunensis from the clingers, Paraleptophlebia cocorata from the swimmers, Chironomidae spp from the burrowers, Psilotreta kisoensis iwata from the sprawlers. They showed different habitat types by the hydraulic conditions such as flow velocity, depth and particle size of riverbed materials. Habitat conditions of swimmers were determined mainly by the flow velocity rather than flow depth or riverbed materials. Burrowers prefer sand and silt, and inhabited at the riverbed. Sprawlers prefer cobble or boulder and inhabited for velocity of 0.05~0.15 m/s. Clingers prefer pebble or cobble and inhabited for velocity of 0.06~0.15 m/s. Although the habitats of each groups are different by the hydraulic properties, they were found to be different mainly by the water velocity.

This study was conducted to develop a habitat assessment system for the endangered wildlife II Kirengeshoma koreana Nakai through in-depth interviews with experts based on field surveys and environmental characteristics through spatial data analysis and literature research. Evaluation factors were selected based on the survey results of 31 variables for 23 K. koreana habitats. Afterwards, the importance and evaluation range for each assessment factor were selected. The selection of survey variables, assessment factors, importance of each factor and assessment range was conducted through in-depth interviews with experts at each stage. As a result, the assessment factors and importance were 16% for precipitation of the wettest month, 10% for vegetation zone, 12% for vegetation type, 10% for crown canopy vitality, 14% for tree layer coverage, 13% for drainage grade, 12% for soil depth, and 13% for distance to stream including dry stream. This study provides basic ecological information and a habitat assessment system for K. koreana habitats. Therefore, it can be used as primary data for preparing an endangered wildlife conservation policy, preparing a habitat improvement plan, and selecting an alternative habitat.

A study was conducted to investigate the seasonal changes in water quality of watershed in the Agricultural Environment Promotion Zone. Samples collected were 12 GW (ground water), 2 IW (irrigation water), 2 SW (stream water) in An-Dong City, 4 GW, 6 IW, 11 SW in Young-Yang Gun, and sampling was conducted separately during dry and rainy season. In the ground water, EC and ionic species, except pH, were higher than those in stream water, and especially $NO_3-N$ concentration exceeded the limitation of drinking water. Concentration of ions decreased as the sampling depth was far from the soil surface. During a rainy season, the concentrations of $NO_3-N$ and K in the stream water were slightly higher than those during season. COD was lower during dry season in Yong-Yang, while the trend was contrasted to An-Dong. These results suggest that ground water was polluted by fertilization and compost while streamwater was polluted by loss of soil and organic during the rainy season. Principal chemical components related with changing water quality were EC, $NO_3^-$, Ca, Mg, Na, $Cl^-$, $Cl^-$, $SO_4^-$ in ground water, whereas $NH_4-N$, K, Mg, $Cl^-$, $SO_4^-$ in stream water.

Similarity indices between sampling sites are calculated and cluster analysis of fish community is carried out by UPGMA based on investigating fish fauna and water environment. The restoration indicators as target species of Wonju stream are selected Cottus poecilopus, Zacco temmincki, and Zacco platypus along upper, middle, and lower streams, respectively. For better habitat suitability, low flow increasing and induced water quality improving must be secured by sewer system rearrangement and watershed management. Composite habitat suitability of Zacco temmincki as target species at middle stream of Wonju stream improve significantly by low flow increasing, which is very important factor to improve habitat suitability. The changes of hydraulics of depth and velocity govern the habitat suitability in general, but the effects are not significant. Low flow increasing with the change of 10% reducing of lower channel improves the composite habitat suitability of 0.37~0.78 to their origin of 0.1~0.25, which represent the channel restoration scheme of Wonju stream for enhancing the habitat suitability of fish community.

In this study, Hunt's analytical solution and Ward & Lough's analytical solution for two-layered leaky aquifer system were used to estimate stream depletions due to shallow and deep groundwater pumping, and their differences were compared. Depending on the combination of the separation distance between the stream and the well, the transmissivity and the storage coefficient of the aquifer, and the leakage coefficient between the upper and lower layers, the stream depletion, which is the amount of stream water reduction compared to the amount of groundwater pumping, for each of 45,000 cases was calculated for both shallow and deep groundwater pumping, and the differences were analyzed quantitatively. When the leakage coefficient was very small, with a value of 10-61/d, the difference in the average five-year stream depletion due to the pumping of shallow and deep groundwater showed a large deviation of up to 0.9 depending on the given hydraulic characteristics; this value exponentially decreased as the stream depletion factor (SDF) increased. This exponential relationship gradually weakened as the leakage coefficient increased due to interaction effects between layers, resulting in a small difference of up to 0.2 when the leakage coefficient reached 10-31/d. Under the condition of greater interlayer hydraulic connectivity, there was little influence of the depth of groundwater pumping on the stream water reduction.

A study on stream-groundwater exchange was performed using head and temperature data of stream water, streambed, and groundwater. Groundwater level and temperature were obtained from multi-depth monitoring wells in small-scale watershed. During the summer and winter season, time series of temperature data at streambed and groundwater were monitored for six months. In the winter time, we measured the temperature gradient between stream water and streambed. The observed data showed three typical types of temperature characteristics. First, the temperature of streambed was lower than that of stream water; second, the temperature of streambed and stream water was similar; and the last, the temperature of streambed was higher than that of stream water. The interconnections between the stream and the streambed were not homogeneously distributed due to weakly developed sediments and heterogeneous bedrock exposed as bed of the stream. The temperature data may be used in formal solutions of the inverse problems to estimate groundwater flow and hydraulic conductivity.
Due to COVID-19, paid virtual live-stream concerts have emerged as an alternative format and a new revenue model for in-person live concerts. Despite the increasing scholarly and practical interest in how participants experience paid virtual live-stream concerts, few studies examined participants' consumption and participation experiences. Thus, this study aims to provide insights into consumers' virtual live-stream concert experience by employing social representations theory (SRT). We explore the features of paid virtual live-stream concerts based on the C-P-N-D (Content-Platform-Network-Device) framework and the consumers' cognitive and affective perception. To this end, an SRT-based core-periphery analysis was conducted based on 239 responses to the open-ended survey questions. The results show that network-and device-level features of virtual live concerts and participants' overall perception are presented as core elements of paid virtual live-stream concerts, whereas content- and platform-level features are peripheral elements. This finding provides an in-depth understanding of the emergence of paid virtual live-stream concerts as an alternative concert format, thereby providing an invaluable understanding of a virtual live concert experience and theoretical and practical insights.
