울산 해안의 최종간빙기 최온난기 추정 해성단구 (The estimation of the marine terrace of the Last Interglacial culmination stage(MIS 5e) in the Sanhari of Ulsan coast,southeastern Korea)

  • The formation age and depositional environment of the marine terrace I of the estimated paleoshoreline altitude of 18m in Sanhari of Ulsan coast, southeastern Korea were investigated on the basis of examination of lithofacies and stratigraphy of terrace deposits. Marine deposits of the terrace is composed of rounded boulders(70cm in diameter) and rounded pebbles(1.0cm in diameter) which overlay them. The above rounded boulders which lie on the paleo-shore platform are considered to have been formed by wave abrasion in the same period that the paleo-shore platform was developed. The rounded pebbles which lie on the rounded boulder layer are considered to have been deposited in gravel beach and berm environment, judging from the laminae developed in this layer. The paleo-shore platform and marine rounded gravel layer of the terrace are assumed to have been formed in the large transgression period of the Last Interglacial culmination stage(MIS 5e), judging from the comparision of the formation age of 125ka B.P. of Juckcheon terrace I in the adjacent Pohang coast which was dated by amino acid dating. The terrestrial deposit of this terrace was largely composed of angular and subangular gravel mixed with marine rounded pebble which has been carried away mainly from the deposit of previous marine terraces and redeposited in this terrace. The lowest peat layer of terrastrial deposit was considered to have been deposited during the period from the late MIS 5e which is the estimated finishing time of deposition of the above marine gravels to the early stage of following regression period(MIS 5d) in which the sea level was still high. The sediments of angular and subangular gravel deposit which lie on this peat layer were assumed to have been deposited during the period from the early stage of the first regression period(MIS 5d) of the Last Interglacial to the Last Glacial. The lower part of the angular gravel layer is composed of the deposits of the fluvial and colluvial sediments, whereas most of the upper and middle part of the layer is mainly composed of angular gravels of colluvial sediments formed in the cold environment.

Maternal nutrition altered embryonic MYOD1, MYF5, and MYF6 gene expression in genetically fat and lean lines of chickens

  • Objective: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of daily feed intake during the laying period on embryonic myogenic differentiation 1 (MYOD1), myogenic factor 5 (MYF5), and myogenic factor 6 (MYF6) gene expression in genetically fat and lean lines of chickens. Methods: An experiment in a 2×2 factorial design was conducted with two dietary intake levels (100% and 75% of nutrition recommendation) and two broiler chicken lines (fat and lean). Two lines of hens (n = 384 for each line) at 23th week of age were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 12 replicates of 16 birds. The experiment started at 27th week of age (5% egg rate) and ended at 54th week of age. Hatched eggs from the medium laying period were collected. Real time polymerase chain reaction analysis was used to analyse the MYOD1, MYF5, and MYF6 mRNA levels of E7, E9, E11, E13, and E15 body tissues and E17, E19, and E21 chest and thigh muscle samples. Results: The results indicated that there were significant effects of line, dietary intake, and interactions between them on MYOD1, MYF5, and MYF6 gene mRNA expression levels in embryonic tissues. Low daily feed intake did not change the expression trend of MYOD1 mRNA in either line, but changed the peak values, especially in lean line. Low daily feed intake altered the trend in MYF5 mRNA expression level in both lines and apparently delayed its onset. There was no apparent effect of low daily feed intake on the trends of MYF6 mRNA expression levels in either line, but it significantly changed the values on many embryonic days. Conclusion: Maternal nutrient restriction affects myogenesis and is manifested in the expression of embryonic MYOD1, MYF5, and MYF6 genes. Long term selection for fat deposition in broiler chickens changes the pattern and intensity of myogenesis.

호수 내 화쇄밀도류의 퇴적과정: 밀양시 단장면 일원 백악기 정각산층의 예 (Depositional Processes of Pyroclastic Density Currents in Lacustrine Environments: An Example from the Cretaceous Jeonggaksan Formation in Danjang-myeon, Miryang City)

  • 호수 내 화쇄밀도류의 퇴적과정을 이해하기 위하여 밀양시 단장면에 분포하는 백악기 정각산층에 대해 퇴적학적 연구를 수행하였다. 연구지역의 정각산층은 호수에서 형성된 이암-사암 호층 및 (응회질)점이층리 사암으로 주로 구성되며, 이들 퇴적암은 화쇄밀도류에 의해 형성된 용결화산력응회암 및 점이층리 화산력응회암과 교호하고 있다. 두께가 10 m인 용결화산력응회암은 분급이 불량하고 괴상인 화산력과 화산재로 구성되며 용결구조가 발달한다. 점이층리 화산력응회암은 약 4 m의 두께로 분급이 보통이거나 양호하며, 층의 하부에 수매의 점이층리 구간이 내부경계면과 함께 나타난다. 상이한 퇴적상을 보이는 화산력응회암은 호수로 유입된 화쇄밀도류의 물리적 특성 및 퇴적과정에 차이가 있음을 의미한다. 약 10 m에 걸쳐 괴상이며 분급이 불량한 특징은 용결응회암이 고농도의 화쇄밀도류에 의해 지속적으로 퇴적되었음을 지시한다. 이 경우, 화쇄밀도류의 전면부는 호안에서부터 물을 지속적으로 밀어내어 화쇄밀도류의 전면부를 제외하고는 물과 직접 접촉하지 않아 열을 보존할 수 있어 용결조직이 형성된 것으로 해석된다. 이와 달리 점이층리 화산력응회암의 내부경계면은 점이층리 화산력응회암을 퇴적시킨 화쇄밀도류가 비지속성흐름을 보였음을 지시하며, 이 경우 호안에서 물을 지속적으로 밀어낼 수 없게 된다. 그 결과, 호수로 유입된 화쇄밀도류는 빠르게 물에 의해 포화되어 저탁류로 변화하여 점이층리 화산력응회암이 형성되었다.

PEDOT:PSS/MWNT 나노복합체의 나노주름 임프린팅을 통한 투명전극-배향막 복합 기능 박막의 액정 구동 (Liquid Crystal Driving of Transparent Electrode-Alignment Layer Multifunctional Thin Film by Nano-Wrinkle Imprinting of PEDOT:PSS/MWNT Nanocomposite)

  • 기존 liquid crystal display(LCD) 공정에서 Indium Tin Oxide(ITO) 투명전극과 폴리이미드 배향막의 러빙 공정은 액정을 정렬하고 전계를 인가하기 위하여 필수적인 공정이다. 하지만 ITO의 증착은 높은 진공을 요구하며, 러빙 공정은 정전기에 의해 소자가 손상될 수 있는 단점이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 기존 ITO 투명전극을 대체하기 위하여 PEDOT:PSS와 Multi-wall carbon nanotube(MWNT)를 혼합하여 PEDOT:PSS 나노복합체를 제조하고, 러빙 공정을 대체하기 위하여 나노 주름 구조 몰드를 통한 나노임프린팅을 통하여 박막을 형성함으로써 기존 액정 디스플레이의 투명전극과 배향막 두 가지 박막을 PEDOT:PSS/MWNT 나노복합체 박막 하나만으로 기능하게 하여 공정을 단순화 하였다. 전사된 나노 주름을 따라 액정이 잘 배향됨을 확인하였으며, 이를 기반으로 만들어진 액정 셀에서 박막 내 MWNT의 함량이 높아질수록 박막의 전기전도도가 증가하여 낮은 구동 전압과 빠른 응답 속도를 갖는다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통해 공정 단순화와 용액공정에 의한 공정 단가 절감, 기존 러빙 공정의 단점을 해결하는데 기여 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

심근 경색 유발 심부전 모델에서 강리 추출물의 심장 보호 가능성 (Cardioprotective Potential of Gracilaria Verrucosa Extract in Myocardial Infarction-Induced Heart Failure Model)

  • Gracilaria Verrucosa (GV), a seaweed used in traditional Korean medicine, was studied for its effects on MI-induced heart failure in rats. MI is caused by a blocked coronary artery, leading to severe cardiac dysfunction. The study used a rat model to assess cardiac changes over time and evaluate the impact of GV on heart failure. Ischemia was induced through LAD ligation surgery, and the extent of ischemic area was measured as a prognostic factor. GV extract administration significantly improved cardiac morphology and reduced cardiac weight compared to the MI group. GV treatment also improved cardiac function, as evidenced by positive effects on chamber dilation during MI-induced heart failure. Parameters such as ejection fraction (EF) and fractional shortening (FS) were measured. The MI group showed decreased EF and FS compared to the sham group, while these parameters improved in the GV group. GV treatment also reduced levels of LDH, CPK, and CK-MB in the serum, indicating reduced myocardial damage. Histological analysis revealed that GV treatment attenuated cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis, with reduced collagen deposition in the myocardium. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed suppressed expression of TGF-β1 and collagen 1, involved in fibrosis. In conclusion, GV showed potential in improving cardiac function in a rat model of MI-induced heart failure. It alleviated myocardial damage, attenuated cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis, and suppressed fibrotic markers. Further studies are needed to explore its clinical efficacy and underlying mechanisms in cardiac diseases beyond animal models.

황연(黃連)이 Cationic Bovine Serum Albumin 투여로 유발된 Membranous Nephropathy Mouse Model에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Coptidis Rhizoma Extract on the Membranous Nephropathy induced by Cationic Bovine Serum Albumin in Mice)

  • Objectives : The current treatment regimens for patients with nephrotic syndrome due to membranous nephropathy(MN) are based on steroids or immunosuppressive therapy with the aim of reducing proteinuria and improving outcome. Although these treatments attenuate the deterioration of renal function in MN patients, it has been suggested that all are burdened by significant toxicity. Therefore, more specific and less toxic therapies are needed. This study was to evaluate the effects of Coptidis Rhizoma Extract(CRE) on the MN induced by cBSA in mice. Methods : Mice were divided into 4 groups. One group named for 'Normal' was injected with a saline solution not to be immunized. The rest groups were treated as follows; After mice were immunized with 0.2 mg of cBSA and Freund's complete adjuvant one time every two weeks for 6 weeks, they received intra-peritoneal injection of 10 mg/kg of cBSA daily for 4 weeks. Also, they were divided into 3 groups. The first named for 'Control' was not given CRE. The second for 'CRE-250' was given oral administration of 250 mg/kg of CRE daily for 4 weeks. The third for 'CRE-500' was given 500 mg/kg of CRE. All of mice were sacrificed 4 weeks after the first immunization. We measured a body weight and 24hrs proteinuria as well as serological analysis. The morphologic changes of renal glomeruli were also observed with a light microscope and an electron microscope. Results : The levels of 24 hrs proteinuria, triglyceride, IgG, IL-6 were significantly decreased in both CRE groups. And the level of IgM was significantly decreased in CRE-250 group. In histological findings of kidney tissue, thickening of GBM and deposition of electron-density were consideraly decreased in both CRE groups. Conclusions : The present study suggests that CRE is highly effective when treating mice with MN induced by cBSA. More clinical data and studies are to be done for efficient application.

점도 변화와 폐색 현상을 고려한 그라우트재의 침투 특성 (Effect of Viscosity and Clogging on Grout Penetration Characteristics)

  • 1925년 이후 지반개량공법은 많은 발전을 거듭해 왔으며, 많은 건설현장에서 차수의 목적 또는 지반강도 증진의 목적 등으로 그라우팅이 적용되어왔다. 지반개량공법의 발전과 더불어 그라우트재의 종류 또한 그 수가 증가되었으며, 그라우트재의 침투특성과 관련된 이론적인 연구의 필요성이 요구되었다. 전수두차에 의해 그라우트재의 흐름이 발생되며, 그라우트재의 이동은 지반의 투수계수의 영향을 받는다. 그라우트재가 지반의 간극을 지날 때, 그라우트재의 화학반응에 의해 점도가 변화되며, 따라서 점도 증가로 인하여 투수계수는 감소하게 된다. 또한 현탁액형의 그라우트재의 경우 그라우트재 입자에 의한 지반 간극의 폐색으로 투수계수가 감소하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 새로 개발된 그라우트재의 물리적-화학적 특성을 연구하고, 입경이 다른 두 종류의 모형지반에서 실시된 신개발 그라우트재의 주입실험 결과와 비교하여 점도변화와 폐색현상을 고려한 그라우트재의 침투 가능성을 이론적으로 제시하고자 한다. 측정된 신개발 그라우트재의 점도는 시간의 지수함수 형태를 보였으며, 실험결과와 비교하여 폐색현상과 관련된 계수 $\delta$를 추정하였다. 그라우트재의 점도 변화는 시간에 따른 주입량에 많은 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났으며, 간극의 크기가 작은 지반에서 주입실험을 실시한 결과 폐색현상의 영향으로 주입량이 현저하게 감소되는 것으로 나타났다.

전해구리막의 표면 조건과 어닐링 과정을 통한 그래핀 성장 최적화 (Optimizing Graphene Growth on the Electrolytic Copper Foils by Controlling Surface Condition and Annealing Procedure)

  • Graphene, a two-dimensional material, has shown great potential in a variety of applications including microelectronics, optoelectronics, and graphene-based batteries due to its excellent electronic conductivity. However, the production of large-area, high-quality graphene remains a challenge. In this study, we investigated graphene growth on electrolytic copper foil using thermochemical vapor deposition (TCVD) to achieve a similar level of quality to the cold-rolled copper substrate at a lower cost. The combined effects of pre-annealing time, graphenized temperature, and partial pressure of hydrogen on graphene coverage and domain size were analyzed and correlated with the roughness and crystallographic texture of the copper substrate. Our results show that controlling the crystallographic texture of copper substrates through annealing is an effective way to improve graphene growth properties, which will potentially lead to more efficient and cost-effective graphene production. At a hydrogen partial pressure that is disadvantageous in graphene growth, electrolytic copper had an average size of 8.039 ㎛2, whereas rolled copper had a size of 19.092 ㎛2, which was a large difference of 42.1% compared to rolled copper. However, at the proper hydrogen partial pressure, electrolytic copper had an average size of 30.279 ㎛2 and rolled copper had a size of 32.378 ㎛2, showing a much smaller difference of 93.5% than before. This observation suggests this potentially leads the way for more efficient and cost-effective graphene production.

댐 펄스방류로 인한 하천의 지형변화 수치모의 분석(영주댐 중심으로) (Numerical analysis of geomorphic changes in rivers due to dam pulse discharge of Yeongju Dam)

  • 본 연구에서는 영주댐 하류 하천을 대상으로 2차원 수치모형인 Nays2DH를 적용하여 펄스방류 등 다양한 유량 조건에서 하류 하천의 역동성을 파악하기 위해 하도의 지형변화 특성 및 하상기복지수를 분석하였다. 수치모의에 적용되는 유량패턴은 등류 흐름, 정규화된 단일홍수, 펄스방류, 그리고 정규화된 펄스방류 등 4개의 유형이다. 수치모의 결과, 정규화를 적용한 펄스방류 조건일 때 하상고 및 하도의 변화가 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 총 하상 변화량은 등류 흐름 조건일 때 29.88 m, 정규화된 단일 홍수 조건일 때 27.46 m, 펄스 방류일 때 29.63 m 그리고 정규화된 펄스 방류일 때 31.87 m로이며, 이 조건에서 세굴과 퇴적의 변동 폭이 가장 크게 나타났다. 하상기복지수(BRI)를 분석한 결과, 등류 조건, 펄스방류, 그리고 정규화된 펄스방류 조건은 시간이 지날수록 BRI가 증가한다. 그러나, 정규화된 단일홍수에서는 첨두유량(14 hrs) 이후 30 hrs 까지 BRI가 급격하게 증가하지만, 그 이후부터는 증가 폭이 점점 감소하고, 56 hrs부터는 감소하였다. 수치모의가 끝날 때(72 hrs) BRI는 등류일 때 2.95, 정규화된 단일홍수일 때 3.31, 펄스방류일 때 3.34, 정규화된 펄스방류일 때 3.78이다. 따라서, 정규화된 펄스방류가 단일홍수나 등류보다 더 큰 역동성을 줄 수 있고, 하류로 갈수록 역동성이 커지면서 댐 하류하천의 환경개선에 효과를 가져올 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Relationship Between Amyloid Positivity and Sleep Characteristics in the Elderly With Subjective Cognitive Decline

  • Background and Purpose: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by a progressive decline in cognition and performance of daily activities. Recent studies have attempted to establish the relationship between AD and sleep. It is believed that patients with AD pathology show altered sleep characteristics years before clinical symptoms appear. This study evaluated the differences in sleep characteristics between cognitively asymptomatic patients with and without some amyloid burden. Methods: Sleep characteristics of 76 subjects aged 60 years or older who were diagnosed with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) but not mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or AD were measured using Fitbit® Alta HR, a wristwatch-shaped wearable device. Amyloid deposition was evaluated using brain amyloid plaque load (BAPL) and global standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR) from fluorine-18 florbetaben positron emission tomography. Each component of measured sleep characteristics was analyzed for statistically significant differences between the amyloid-positive group and the amyloid-negative group. Results: Of the 76 subjects included in this study, 49 (64.5%) were female. The average age of the subjects was 70.72±6.09 years when the study started. 15 subjects were classified as amyloid-positive based on BAPL. The average global SUVR was 1.598±0.263 in the amyloid-positive group and 1.187±0.100 in the amyloid-negative group. Time spent in slow-wave sleep (SWS) was significantly lower in the amyloid-positive group (39.4±13.1 minutes) than in the amyloid-negative group (49.5±13.1 minutes) (p=0.009). Conclusions: This study showed that SWS is different between the elderly SCD population with and without amyloid positivity. How SWS affects AD pathology requires further research.
