A case study is presented where a fluvial system is modeled in three dimensions and compared to data gathered from a study of the Arkansas River. The data is unique in that it documents changes that affected a straight channel that was excavated within the river by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Excavation plan maps and sequential aerial photographs show that the channel underwent massive deposition and channel migration as it returned to a more natural, meandering path. These records illustrate that stability of fluvial system can be disrupted either by catastrophic events such as floods or by subtle events such as the altering of a stream's equilibrium base level or sediment load. SEDSIM, Stanford's Sedimentary Basin Simulation Model, is modified and used to model the Arkansas River and the geologic processes that changed in response to changing hydraulic and geologic parameters resulting from the excavation of the channel. Geologic parameters such as fluid and sediment discharge, velocity, transport capacity, and sediment load are input into the model. These parameters regulate the frequency distribution and sizes of sediment grains that are eroded, transported and deposited. The experiments compare favorably with field data, recreating similar patterns of fluid flow and sedimentation. Therefore, simulations provide insight for understanding and spatial distribution of sediment bodies in fluvial deposits and the internal sedimentary structure of fluvial reservoirs. These techniques of graphic simulation can be contributed to support the development of the new design criteria compatible with natural stream processes, espacially drainage problem to minimize environmental disruption.

In order to investigate the characteristics of penatration and the effect of surface treatment in A15052-H34, Al5082-Hl31 and titanium alloy laminates which were treated by anodizing and PVD(Physical Vapor Desposition) method, ballistic tests were conducted. Thickness of surface membrane in A15052-H34, Al5082-Hl31, were $25{\mu}m$ and that of titanium $0.9{\mu}m$ respectively. Surface hardness test was conducted using micro Vicker's hardness tester. Resistance to penetration is determined by the protection ballistic limit(V50), a statistical velocity with $50\%$ probability for complete penetration. Fracture behaviors and ballistic tolerance, described by penetration modes, are observed from the results of V50 test and Projectile Through Plate(PTP) test at velocities greater than protection ballistic limit, respectively. Present experimental results derived from this research help to optimize laminate impact behavior by varing the laminate thickness and surface treated materials.
We demonstrated a polymer dielectric with low leakage characteristics through an optimal blade coating method for low-cost and large-scale fabrication of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors. Cross-linked poly(4-vinylphenol) (C-PVP), which is a typically used polymer dielectric, was coated on a 10 × 10 cm indium-tin-oxide (ITO) deposited glass substrate by changing the deposition temperature (TD) and coating velocity (VC) in the blade coating. During the blade coating, the thickness of the thin c-PVP varied depending on TD and VC owing to the 'Landau-Levich (LL) regime'. The c-PVP-dielectric-based MIM capacitor fabricated in this study showed the lowest leakage current characteristics (10-6 A/㎠ at 1.2 MV/㎠, annealing at 200 ℃) and uniform electrical characteristics when TD was 30 ℃ and VC was 5 mm/s. In addition, at TD = 30 ℃, stable leakage characteristics were confirmed when a different electric field was applied. These results are expected to positively contribute to applications with next-generation electronic devices.

The main reason for its instability is sediment scouring downstream of hydraulic structures. Both physical and numerical models have been used to investigate the influence of soil properties on scour hole geometry. Nevertheless, no research has been conducted on resistance parameters that affect sedimentation and erosion. In addition, auxiliary structures like wing walls, which are prevalent in many real-world applications, have rarely been studied for their impact on morphology. The hydraulic characteristics of steady flow through a boxed culvert are calibrated using a 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics model compared with experimental data in this study, which shows a good agreement between water depth, velocity, and pressure profiles. Test cases showed that 0.015 m grid cells had the lowest NRMSE and MAE values. It is also possible to quantify sediment scour numerically by testing roughness/d50 ratios (cs) and diversion walls at a meander flume outlet. According to the findings, cs = 2.5 indicates a close agreement between numerical and analytical results of maximum scour depth after the culvert; four types of wing walls influence geometrical deformation of the meander flume outlet, resulting in erosion at the concave bank and deposition at the convex bank; two short headwalls are the most appropriate solution for accounting for small changes in morphology. A numerical model can be used to estimate sediment scour at the meander exit channel of hydraulic structures based on the roughness parameter of soil material and headwall type.

Recently, as the occurrence frequency of sudden floods due to climate change increased, it is necessary to install the facilities that can cope with the initial stormwater. Most researches have been conducted on the design of facilities applying the Low Impact Development (LID) and the reduction effect on rainfall runoff to examine with 1D or 2D numerical models. However, the studies on the examination about flow characteristics and stability of pipe network systems were relatively insufficient in the literature. In this study, the stability of the pipe network system in rainwater storage tank was examined by using 3D numerical model, FLOW-3D. The changes of velocity and dynamic pressure were examined according to the number of rainwater storage tank and compared with the design criteria to derive the optimal design plan for a rainwater storage tank. As a results of numerical simulation with the design values in the previous study, it was confirmed that the velocity became increased as the number of rainwater storage tank increased. And magnitude of the velocity in pipes was formed within the design criteria. However, the velocity in the additional rainwater storage pipe was about 3.44 m/s exceeding the allowable range of the design criteria, when three or more additional rainwater storage tanks were installed. In the case of turbulence intensity and bottom shear stress, the bottom shear stress was larger than the critical shear stress as the additional rainwater storage was increased. So, the deposition of sediment was unlikely to occur, but it should be considered that the floc was formed by the reduction of the turbulence intensity. In addition, the dynamic pressure was also satisfied with the design criteria when the results were compared with the allowable internal pressure of the pipes generally used in the design of rainwater storage tank. Based on these results, it was suitable to install up to two additional rainwater storage tanks because the drainage becomes well when increasing of the number of storage tank and the velocity in the pipe becomes faster to be vulnerable to damage the pipe. However, this study has a assumption about the specifications of the rainwater storage tanks and the inflow of stormwater and has a limitation such that deriving the suitable rainwater storage tank design by simply adding the storage tank. Therefore, the various storage tank types and stormwater inflow scenarios will be asked to derive more efficient design plans in the future.

The low carrying capacity caused by the deposition in a sewer line is one of the main reason of the urban flood. Therefore, an efficient maintenance and management of the storm water drainage system is very important to prevent urban flood. In this research, the sediment transport characteristics through a pressure pipeline were examined with laboratory experiments. Bed-forms in a pipeline, sediment rates, roughness due to sediments were examined. Experimental system consists of flow circulation system with a pump and a sediment feeder at the upstream of the pipeline. Sediments were supplied into a 60 mm-diameter and 8 m-long pipe. Maximum flow rate is $30m^3/hr$, and the sediment feeding rate range is 5 g/s~19 g/s. Governing parameters and estimation equation for sediment transport rate were developed. The mean velocity (U), coefficient of viscosity (${\mu}$), unit width bed load ($q_b$), mean diameter of particle ($d_{50}$), unit weight of sediment in water (${\gamma}^{\prime}_s$) were adopted as the most influencing factors of sediment transport patterns. The prediction equation for sediment transport rate were developed with two dimensionless terms. These two dimensionless terms showed a linear relationship with high correlation coefficient.

The border of the shorelines in a nation is an important factor in determining the border of a national territory, but Korea's shorelines are rapidly changing due to the recent rise in sea level from global warming and growth-centered economic policy over the decades of years. This research was done centering on the areas having well-preserved shorelines as they naturally are and other areas having damaged shorelines in their vicinities due to artificial structures at the two beaches located at the neighboring areas and having mutually homogeneous ocean conditions with each other. First, this research derived the shorelines using the aerial photographies taken from 1947 until 2007 and revised the tidal levels sounding data obtained from a hydrographical survey automation system consisting of Echosounder[Echotrac 3100] and Differential Global Positioning System[Beacon]by using topographical data and ships on land obtained by applying post-processing Kinematic GPS measuring method. In addition, this research evaluated the changes and dimensional variations for the last 60 years by dividing these determined shorelines into 5 sections. As a result, the Haewundae Beach showed a total of 29% decrease rate in dimension as of the year 2007 in comparison with the year 1947 due to a rapid dimensional decline centering on its west areas, while the dimension of the Gwanganri Beach showed an increase in its dimension amounting to a total of 69% due to the decrease in flow velocity by artificial structures built on both ends of the beach-forming accumulation; thus, it was found that there existed a big difference in deposition & accumulation tendency depending on neighboring environment in spite of the homogeneous ocean conditions.
The distribution of gravel-bed materials in mountainous river is formed by the process of deposition and transportation of sediment responding to stream power of the latest flood that is over the certain scale. The particle size of bed material was surveyed in the longitudinal points of river and detail points of a specific meandering section and used to estimate the critical velocity and stream power. Yang's critical unit stream power and Bagnold's critical stream power for gravel-bed materials increased with the distance from downstream to upstream. Dimensionless shear stress based on the designed flood discharge in Shields diagram was evaluated that the gravel-bed materials in most survey points may be transported as form of bedload. The mean diameter in the meandering section was the biggest size in first water impingement point of inflow water from upstream and the second big size in second water impingement point by reflection flow. The mean diameters were relatively the small sizes in points right after water impingement. The range of mean critical velocity was 0.77~2.60 m/s and critical unit stream power was big greatly in first water impingement point. The distribution of critical stream power, range of 7~171 $W/m^2$, was shown that variation in longitudinal section was more obvious than that of cross section and estimated that critical stream power may be affected greatly in first and second water impingement point.

In this study, the effect of a long post-deposition thermal annealing(600 and 1000 $^{\circ}C$) on the surface acoustic wave (SAW) properties of polycrystalline (poly) aluminum-nitride (AlN) thin films grown on a 3C-SiC buffer layer was investigates. The poly-AlN thin films with a (0002) preferred orientation were deposited on the substrates by using a pulsed reactive magnetron sputtering system. Experimental results show that the texture degree of AlN thin film was reduced along the increase in annealing temperature, which caused the decrease in the electromechanical coupling coefficient ($k^2$). The SAW velocity also was decreased slightly by the increase in root mean square (RMS) roughness over annealing temperature. However, the residual stress in films almost was not affect by thermal annealing process due to small lattice mismatch different and similar coefficient temperature expansion (CTE) between AlN and 3C-SiC. After the AlN film annealed at 1000 $^{\circ}C$, the insertion loss of an $IDT/AlN/3C-SiC/SiO_2/Si$ structure (-16.44 dB) was reduced by 8.79 dB in comparison with that of the as-deposited film (-25.23 dB). The improvement in the insertion loss of the film was fined according to the decrease in the grain size. The characteristics of AlN thin films were also evaluated using Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectra and X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) images.

In this research the development of unstructured grid discretization solution techniques is presented. The purpose is to describe such a conservative discretization scheme applied for experimental validation work. The objective of this paper is to better establish the effects of mesh generation techniques on velocity fields and particle deposition patterns to determine the optimal aerodynamic characteristics. In order to achieve the objective, the mesh surface discretization approaches used the VLA prototype manufacturing tolerance zone of the outer surface. There were 3 schemes for this discretization study implementation. They are solver validation, grid convergence study and surface tolerance study. A solver validation work was implemented for the simple 2D and 3D model to get the optimum solver for the VLA model. A grid convergence study was also conducted with a different growth factor and cell spacing, the amount of mesh can be controlled. With several amount of mesh we can get the converged amount of mesh compared to experimental data. The density around surface model can be calculated by controlling the number of element in every important and sensitive surface area of the model. The solver validation work result provided the optimum solver to employ in the VLA model analysis calculation. The convergence study approach result indicated that the aerodynamic trend characteristic was captured smooth enough compared with the experimental data. During the surface tolerance scheme, it could catch the aerodynamics data of the experiment data. The discretization studies made the validation work more efficient way to achieve the purpose of this paper.
