The reciprocal relationship between the interpersonal tie and the internet dependency is focused in the study. Mainly, chi-squire test and ANOVA are used in testing the hypothesized relationship of the internet dependency with the interpersonal tie before and after using internet. The strong relationship with the internet dependency is found in internet's both-directional communicating function such as chatting, game, gambling, etc. The level of internet dependency is high when individual's tie with friends, colleagues, or neighbors is strong; but it is lower when individual's emotional tie with family members is stronger. It is confirmed that excessive usage of internet damages family relationship. Conversely, it is also clear that the emotional support from family members is essential for preventing or enhancing internet dependency. This implies that internet dependency is not an individual problem, but that it should be treated under the consideration of his/her family system.
Purpose - This study develops a simulation model that looks at the dynamics between social capital and business performance in strategic networks to understand their behaviors in relation to each other, and to suggest dynamic relationship strategies. Research design, data, and methodology - Based on existing literature, this study identifies the complex causal loop diagram on social capital and business performance in strategic networks, and converts them into a simulation model for observing how the changes in business environment and relationship dependency affect social capital and business performance. Results - The simulation results showed that, first, the formation in social capital and business performance of networks with low relationship dependency was less affected by the changes in business environment. Second, the formation in social capital and business performance of networks with high relationship dependency was negatively impacted by the changes in business environment. In other words, higher relationship dependency strengthened the impact of changes in business environment on business performance. Conclusions - Thus, this study confirmed that in strategic networks, the changes in business environment and the degree of relationship dependency dynamically affect business performance, and that relationship dependency mediates the degree in which changes in the business environment affect business performance. The results of the simulations were further verified through actual business cases.
The relationship between dependent personality traits and depression has been widely studied in the field of psychology. However, the existing evidence is mixed and often contradictory, obscuring the precise nature of this relationship. Given that the most common method of measuring the construct of dependency has been to administer self-report instruments, it is possible that implicit dependency, another parameter of dependency that is distinct from explicit dependency measured via self-report, is confounding these results. The current study aimed to clarify the relationship between dependency and depression by comparing the effect of implicit and explicit dependency. Implicit dependency was measured via the Single Category-Implicit Association Test (SC-IAT), a test of implicit personality that has shown to have good validity and reliability in previous studies. In addition, we examined the effect of gender on this relationship, given the potential role of gender stereotype that may make male participants show lower levels of dependency when measured through self-report (vs. SC-IAT). Results showed that implicit and explicit dependency indeed had separate and distinct relationships, and the relationships depends on participants' gender. Among female participants, increased explicit dependency predicted depression only when implicit dependency was also elevated. In contrast, explicit dependency predicted depression regardless of the level of implicit dependency in male participants. These findings suggest that implicit and explicit dependency may be separate parameters capturing different aspects of dependent personality traits, further supporting the need to consider the implicit aspect of personality in personality assessment research. Implications and limitations of the current findings and directions for future research are discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-esteem, social support, smartphone dependency and internet game dependency of college students. Methods: This was a descriptive study. The survey participants were 299 college students in M city and I city. The data were collected from June 2 to June 20, 2014 and self-report questionnaires including Self-Esteem Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Smartphone Dependency Sale, Internet Game Dependency Scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent-sample t-test, ANOVA, stepwise multiple regression. Results: Social support & smartphone dependency showed significant differences according to gender. Smartphone dependency was found to have a statistically negative correlation with self-esteem, social support and positive correlation with internet game dependency. Internet game dependency was found to have a statistically negative correlation with self-esteem, social support. Social support was found to have a statistically negative correlation with self-esteem. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the significant predictors of smartphone dependency were internet game dependency, gender, self-esteem, accounted for 16.6% of the variance. Conclusion: It is necessary for reduction program of college students' smartphone dependency that consider their internet game dependency, gender, self-esteem.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the moderating effect of elementary school students' perception of open communication with their parents in relationship to smartphone dependency and school adjustment. Methods: Participants included 300 fifth and sixth graders attending P and A elementary schools in Gyeonggi Province. Descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed to analyze data. The level of significance was set at p < .05 for all analyses. Results: The results of the present study are as follows: First, male students showed higher levels of smartphone dependency than female students, and students' smartphone dependency increased according to age. The students' smartphone dependency was negatively associated with their school adjustment and their perception of open communication with their parents. Second, the students' perception of open communication with their fathers was found to moderate the relationship between smartphone dependency and school adjustment. Conclusion/Implications: These findings indicate that open communication between parents and their elementary school-aged children can buffer the adverse effects of smartphone dependency on school adjustment. This study provides implications for parent education and counseling to improve parent-child communication and subsequently build strong, positive family relationships.
The present study was to investigate whether Cyberspace addiction groups could be classified into types and examine the relationship with types of Cyberspace addiction and adolescents' psychological environment. The findings were as follows: First, adolescents' Cyberspace addiction was analyzed by factor analysis and classified by four different types, which were named as sensation seeking, life interference, time dependency, and psychological dependency. Second, male students experienced more sensation seeking and life interference tendencies than female students who experienced more psychological dependency tendency than male students. High school students experienced more life interference tendency than middle school students. Third, there was relationship with types of adolescents Cyberspace addiction and psychological environment. Adolescents who addicted Cyberspace with sensation seeking were more likely to avoid conversation with families, and had a tendency of compulsiveness and depression. Adolescents who addicted Cyberspace with life interference had a tendency of compulsiveness and depression, and had a problem of school life and family relationship. Adolescents who addicted Cyberspace with time dependency showed the compulsiveness and avoided conversation with families. Adolescents who addicted Cyberspace with psychological dependency were more likely to have peer relationship and had a tendency of depression. Conclusively, the psycho-social environment such as compulsiveness, depression, family and peer relationship, and school environment was related to types of adolescents' Cyberspace addiction more or less.

The causal network represents the knowledge related to the dependency relationship between all attributes. If the causal network is available, the dependency relationship can be employed to estimate the missing values for improving the estimation performance. However, the previous method had a limitation in that it did not consider the bidirectional characteristic of the causal network. The proposed method considers the bidirectional characteristic by applying prior and posterior conditions, so that it outperforms the previous method.

The main objective of this article lies in discussing dependecy issues as related to information development in NICs. The theoretical foundation was drawn from theories of 'dependency' and of 'information societies,' The main assertion of the dependency school (the more dependency, the less development) was applied for a test of the relationship between dependency on foreign scientific and technical information (STI) resources and indigenous STI development in NICs. Utilizing a case study method, this study explored the causes and results of dependency on foreign STI in a leading NICthe Republic of Korea (ROK). First identified were the economic factors that might have influenced the ROK's dependency on foreign STI. Also investigated were the social factors that might have had associations with the R&D personnel's dependency on foreign STI. Regarding the development of information area, this study discussed general features in the process of producing, organizng, and gatekeeping indigenous STIIdentified regarding the ROK's information dependency was the R&D personnel's pattern of using foreign STI resources as well as the country's dependency on foreign STI resources. This study also discussed the socio-economic progress toward an information society in ROK for the past decades. Finally, specific linkages between the selected five variables were examined on the basis of the proposed four hypotheses.
This study was designed to examine the relationships between three distinct dimensions of teacher-child relationship(closeness, conflict, and dependency) and various aspects of children's social competence. The subjects were 101 children at their ages of five to six years old (56 keys, 45 girls) in Jeonju city. The data were collected through preschool teachers by using self-administered questionnaire method. The results showed that teacher-child relationship was significantly associated with their social competence in preschool. Specifically, closeness in children's relationship with their teachers was fouled to be strongly correlated with children's social competence, white conflict between children and their teachers was negatively related with children's social competence. Finally, children's dependency on their Coachers was associated with children's problem behaviors.
This paper investigates how internal knowledge dependency and its interaction with external knowledge adoption affect innovation performance in Korean companies. We categorize innovation performance into exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation. Especially, we examine business group effects as group headquarters and sister subsidiaries holistically form the boundary of the firm. Our empirical results first suggest that the degree of internal knowledge dependency is positively associated with exploitative innovation, but negatively with exploratory innovation. Second, internal knowledge dependency is more negatively related to exploratory innovation in independent firms than in business group affiliates. Third, independent firms' adoption of external knowledge tends to strengthen the positive relationship between internal knowledge dependency and exploitative innovation. Finally, exploitative external knowledge search appears to strengthen the negative relationship between internal knowledge dependency and exploratory innovation in both types of firms.
