  • LED(Light Emitting Diode) is an emitting device which energy is same to the bandgap of p-type and n-type semiconductor junction. Recently high brightness LED is used in fish-luring light and traffic signal light alternative of normal light bulb, and widely used in the area of display pannel. Moreover nowadays LED has been used as a back light of LCD display. Recently, visible light communication(VLC) using LED, that allow two-way serial data communication between LEDs over a distance of sveral centimeters or meters, has been widely studied in the area of digital information transmission along with illumination and display. In this paper, we present LED communication system and their applications.

  • Soybean oil was stored in polyethylene for 12 weeks at $20^{\circ}C$. The influence of LED (light emitting diode) irradiation on four different wavelengths and fluorescent light was investigated. The pattern changes of volatile components in soybean oil was analyzed by electronic nose based on mass spectrometer. The obtained data from electronic nose were analyzed by discrimination function analysis. Under fluorescent light, the discriminant function first score (DF1) was significantly moved from positive position to negative one after 4-12 weeks. It means that the volatile compounds related to quality of lipid. It was shown to increase slowly due to green light of LED treatment, while blue and white LED light was influenced significantly as well as fluorescent light irradiation. Selection of LED irradiation would provide to keep good quality of soybean oil under distribution chain system.

Plant height of Kalanchoe was enhanced under Red, regardless of treatment time. 2. Root length and stem diameter of Kalanchoe were enhanced by Red+Blue. 3. The number of internodes was not influenced by LED light quality. Length of flower stalk of Kalanchoe increased under Red+Blue, but treatment time did not result in statistically significant differences. 4. Leaf area was not influenced by LED light quality in Kalanchoe. 5. The number of flower buds and open flowers was decreased by LED light treatment, but days to flowering was reduced by Red+Blue for 4 hr after sunset in Kalanchoe. 6. Chlorophyll and anthocyanin content was not significantly affected by LED light treatment, but anthocyanin content tended to increase by Blue 4 hr after sunset. 7. Fresh and dry weight did not increased by LED light treatment in Kalanchoe.

  • In this study, four common food-borne bacteria, namely, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis, were targeted via irradiation with 270 nm UV C-LED, 365 nm UV A-LED, 465~475 and 620~630 nm visible-LED, and 850 and 5,000~7,000 nm infrared-LED light. The effect on the growth of each bacterial species was investigated. In the case of 270 nm UV C-LED, all four strains showed inhibitory effects compared with the control group when irradiated for 10 or 30 min. Furthermore, when irradiated with 365 nm UV A-LED for 1 or 3 hr, B. subtilis showed 100% growth inhibition. When irradiated with 465~475 nm visible-LED for 1 hr, all four strains showed no significant difference from the control group but showed significant growth inhibition when irradiated for 3 hr. S. aureus and B. subtilis treated with 620~630 nm visible-LED; S. typhimurium and S. aureus treated with 850 nm infrared-LED; and E. coli, S. typhimurium, and S. aureus treated with 5,000~7,000 nm infrared-LED were confirmed to significantly proliferate compared with the control group. The results of this experiment show the potential of the use of various LED light sources as a food preservation and application technology by examining their effect on the inhibition and growth of food-borne bacteria and by grasping the characteristics of each wavelength.

  • Although significant amount of research has been done to develop LED lamp packages for improved performance, no standard theories or guidelines have been established yet for designing LED lamp packages. In this paper, the photon extraction efficiency depending on both the InGaN/Sapphire LED chip structure and its attachment schemes for chip mounting has been analyzed by using the Monte Carlo photon simulation method. Based on the results of the analysis, we have derived guidelines for LED lamp package design, which can be utilized in industries or research institutes for designing new LED lamp packages optimized for particular applications.

  • An LED (light emitting diode) has the advantages of lower power consumption, energy saving, high efficiency, long lifetime, and environmental friendliness so that it has been getting the spotlight as a next-generation light source. Thus, the application range of an LED has been extended to various fields including indoor and outdoor lighting. Recently, the high efficient LED lighting has been developed, an LED has been extended its market rapidly every year and is expected to replace the general light source within near future. In this study were measured electrical and optical properties for 6 types of LED bulbs which are being developed to replace the general incandescent lamps, and were analysed under the standard of the omnidirectional lamp required by the Energy Star.

  • Recently, there has been an increased demand for light-emitting diode (LED) due to the growing emphasis on environmental protection. However, the use of GaN-based sapphire in LED manufacturing leads to the generation of defects, such as dislocations caused by lattice mismatch, which ultimately reduces the luminous efficiency of LEDs. Moreover, most inspections for LED semiconductors focus on evaluating the luminous efficiency after packaging. To address these challenges, this paper aims to detect defects at the wafer stage, which could potentially improve the manufacturing process and reduce costs. To achieve this, image processing and deep learning-based defect detection techniques for Sapphire Epi-Wafer used in Green LED manufacturing were developed and compared. Through performance evaluation of each algorithm, it was found that the deep learning approach outperformed the image processing approach in terms of detection accuracy and efficiency.

  • In this paper, an LED lighting system that is capable of automatic or maunal dimming control using a ultrasonic sensor and Bluetooth wireless communication technology is presented. The LED lighting system consists of a ultrasonic sensor, microcontroller unit, Bluetooth wireless communication, LED driver, and LED light source. By using the implemented LED lighting system sample, it is shown that the automatic and manual dimming control is realized. By using the ultrasonic sensor, the LED lighting is automatically brighter or dimmer depending on the distance between the sensor and an object. When using a smartphone that includes Bluetooth wireless communication function, one can not only manually control the brightness of the LED lighting from level 1 to 10, but also monitor the distance between the sensor and object on the smartphone.

  • In an attempt to estimate the life projection of LED packages, IESNA published a paper regarding an LED package measurement test method in 2008, and a life projection technical document in 2011, to be used for LED life estimation. IESNA's publications regarding LED package measurement methods were functional, but they were not internationally standardized before 2017. In order to develop a standardized method, the International Standard chose to use the LM-80 as a measurement method for LED life projection in their publication in 2017. Many projection methods have been discussed by the IEC Technical Committee 34 working group, including the method using an exponential function, which reflects lumen degradation characteristics well. This study is designed to explore alternative LED package life estimation methods using an exponential function with statistical analysis, other than the one suggested by the International Standard.
