  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of depression, sleep and self-esteem on quality of life of elders living at home. A descriptive survey study was conducted based on a survey of 285 older people in person at five senior welfare centers in J city from May 20, 2016 to 9. The data were analyzed by at-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression using SPSS WIN 21.0. The mean scores were depression $7.27{\pm}3.80$, sleep $30.75{\pm}9.35$, self-esteem $36.40{\pm}5.30$ and quality of life $8.05{\pm}2.53$. Depression(r=0.491, p<0.001) and sleep(r=0.590 p<0.001) were positively correlated with quality of life and negatively correlated with self-esteem (r=-0.234, p<0.001). The results of the regression indicated that depression, sleep, and self-esteem explained 39.9% of the variance in quality of life. Overall, these results suggest that depression, sleep and self-esteem were associated with quality of life. Therefore it is necessary to develop strategies to reduce depression and sleep disorders for community dwelling elders to improve quality of life.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the quality of meta-analysis of social work in South Korea using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Review (AMSTAR). Electronic databases including the Korean Studies Information Service System (KISS), DBpia, and RISS4U were searched for 'meta-analysis', 'social work', and 'social welfare' from 2000 to December 2015, and 42 meta-analysis studies were included. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and ANOVA. The mean score for AMSTAR evaluation was $4.766{\pm}1.66$, while 19 studies (45.2%) were classified at the low-quality level, and 22 (52.4%) were at the moderate-quality level. The scores of quality assessment were analyzed by publication year, participants, number of studies included, number of DB, reporting study quality, extraction diagram and topics. The findings indicated that the following changes should be implemented to improve the quality and reliability of meta-analysis results in social work research: 1) common reporting guidelines should be provided for the social work field, 2) quality analyses of each study should be conducted to achieve a high level of evidence of effectiveness of social work interventions, 3) the characteristics of the included studies should be provided, and 4) a consensus and procedure based on at least two independent data extractors should be reported.

  • The aim of this review was to determine the status of acupuncture therapies in reducing obesity in obese patients and to determine the scheme and effectiveness of acupuncture therapies. Existing reports published between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2017 in Kiss, Riss, National Assembly Library, Pubmed and CINAHL databases were searched electronically with the keywords obesity, acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, and electroacupuncture. After checking the original sources of the articles, 19 articles were included in the review. In a qualitative evaluation of the papers using a checklist from the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network, one study scored 9 out of 10 points, 15 studies scored 7-8 out of 10 points, two studies scored 6 out of 10 points, and one study scored 3 out of 10 points. In the acupuncture therapy schemes, acupoints to reduce obesity included shemen, hunger, LI-11 (Quchi), LI-4 (Hegu), St-25 (Tianshu) and St-44 (Neiting). Acupuncture therapies were conducted for an average of 16.9 total sessions. In the studies that involved 20-day or 72-day duration for acupuncture therapies, the frequency of acupuncture therapies was 1 time/1-2 days. In the studies that involved 4- to 18-week duration for acupuncture therapies, the frequency of acupuncture therapies was 1-3 times/week. This study found acupuncture therapies were effective in reducing obesity, and acupuncture therapies reduced anthropometry, blood glucose and lipids and changed blood hormones. In the future, there is an urgent need for well-planned studies of the effectiveness of acupuncture therapies for reducing obesity in obese patients.

  • Many empirical studies are conducted in regards to protean career or boundaryless career. The concept and the notion of protean career and boundaryless career has extended so far. Yet, the gap in the literature exists. Previous literature focused on the relationship among protean career, boundaryless career, and subjective career success, but examined little about the influence of protean career and boundaryless career on positive career attitude or future learning readiness. Therefore, this study explores the moderating effect of supporting policy of career development among protean career orientation, boundaryless career, positive career attitude, and future learning readiness. There was moderating effect of supporting policy of career development among the relationships of protean career orientation and future learning readiness; the relationships of boundaryless career and future learning readiness. The moderating effect of supporting policy of career development implies that the intention of career development in self-directed way and learning are related. In addition, The role of HRD/HRM department which takes initiatives in career development can affect the learning readiness for future among workers.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the self-awareness of smartphone dependence among undergraduate students and their response to the same. The data was drawn from a survey on smartphone overdependence conducted by the Ministry of Science and information and communications technology (ICT) and the National Information Society Agency in 2017. The responses of 1,735 undergraduate students were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum-maximum value, 2-test, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that 22.3% of participants were at risk of smartphone dependence, and 63.6% of them were unaware of their dependence on smartphones. The perception of smartphone dependence was significantly associated with a higher risk of smartphone dependence (=.35, p=.000) and the increasing use of applications such as games (=.19, p=.000), television/video (=.11, p=.000), and learning (=.11, p=.000). Of the participants with dependence awareness, only a few knew about the existence of centers to prevent smartphone and internet dependence. Moreover, they rarely utilized these centers. However, the participants felt the need for more counseling agencies (26.8%), programs for dealing with oneself (23.2%), information about smartphone dependence (14.9%), and help to overcome dependence (10.9%). These findings show the need to establish public services so that students can easily access correct information on smartphone dependence and address this problem.
