  • Recent wireless communication trends have emphasized the importance of energy-efficient transmission. In this paper, link adaptation with machine learning mechanism for maximum energy efficiency in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(MIMO-OFDM) wireless system is considered. For reflecting frequency-selective MIMO-OFDM channels, two-dimensional capacity(2D-CAP) feature space is proposed. In addition, machine-learning-based bit and power adaptation(ML-BPA) algorithm that performs classification-based link adaptation is presented. Simulation results show that 2D-CAP feature space can represent channel conditions accurately and bring noticeable improvement in link adaptation performance. Compared with other feature spaces, including ordered postprocessing signal-to-noise ratio(ordSNR) feature space, 2D-CAP has distinguished advantages in either efficiency performance or computational complexity.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the adaptation to the tooth structure of five light cured glass ionomer cements (Fuji II LC. VariGlass VLC, Vitremer, Dyract and Geristore). Human, non-carious fifty extracted permanent premolars stored in normal saline were used. Class V cavity preparations were created on the buccal surfaces. The occlusal margin of each cavity was placed on the enamel and the gingival margin was placed on the cementum/dentin. The teeth were then distributed at random into five groups of 10 teeth each. Group 1: Fuji II LC, Group 2 : VariGlass VLC, Group 3 : Vitremer, Group 4: Dyract, Group 5 : Geristore. The prepared cavities were restored with one of the five light cured glass ionomer cements. The manipulation of each material was handled according to the manufacturer's instructions. All samples were placed in incubator of 100% relative humidity at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The roots of the teeth were removed with the tapered fissure bur and the remaining crowns were sectioned buccolingually through the center of restorations. The cut interfaces were gradually hand polished on sandpapers from 300 up to 1200 grit. The adaptation at the tooth/cements interface was assessed by SEM (JSM-840A, JEOL Ltd.). The results of this study were as follows : 1. Group 2 revealed the best adaptation and groups 1, 4 and 5 revealed similar adaptation pattern to the cavity walls. Group 3 revealed the worst adaptation to the cavity walls. 2. Enamel margins showed better adaptation than dentin/cementum margins with each material except group 3. 3. The hybrid layers were observed between the glass ionomer cement and dentin in groups 2, 4 and 5.

  • This study was conducted to promote male nursing students' adaptation to college life by identifying life stress, grit, and degree of adaptation to college life, and the effect of grit mediating effect on the relationship between life stress and college life adjustment. became The subjects of this study were 209 male nursing college students enrolled in nursing departments in 5 major cities. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 25.0. Life stress showed a significant negative correlation with college life adaptation and grit, but grit showed a positive correlation with college life adaptation. As a result of mediating effect verification, the final model explained 43.5% of college life adaptation. Therefore, in order to improve male nursing students' adaptation to college life, it is required to develop a program that can lower life stress and increase grit and college life adaptation level.

  • Zinc plays a key role in genetic expression, cell division, and cell growth and is essential for the functions of more than 450 metalloenzyme. There are high concentrations of zinc in pigment epithelium in bullfrog eye. Zinc deficiency causes night blindness and abnormal dark adaptation. The purpose of this study was to identify ERG (electroretinogram) b-wave sensitivity during light and dark adaptation in bullfrog retina after zinc and zinc chelators treatment such as histidine and TSQ (N-(6-methoxy-8-qunolyl)-p-toluenesulfon amide). Especially, we focused whether histidine act as a zinc chelator in the Muller cell. The results of our study are summarized as follows: 1) Both zinc and histidine elevated ERG b-wave amplitude and threshold in Muller cells by accelerating rhodopsin regeneration time and increased a-peak absorbance during light adaptation. 2) TSQ reduced those by prolonging rhodopsin regeneration time and decrement of a-peak absorbance during light adaptation. 3) Zinc shortened rhodopsin regeneration time and prolonged a-peak absorbance. These results suggested that histidine may act as a zinc-mediated transporter in presynaptic Muller cell membrane rather than zinc chelator and acts as a GABA-receptor inhibitor which blocks $Cl^-$ influx to the postsynapse.

  • It is well known that temporal information, i.e speech onset, about input speech can be represented to the response nerve signal of auditory nerve better depending on the adaptation effect occurred in the auditory nerve synapse. In addition, the performance of a speech processor of cochlear implant can be improved by the adaptation effect. In this paper, we observed the emphasis characteristic of speech onset in the recently proposed adaptation algorithm, analyzed the characteristic of performance change according to the variation of parameters and compared with transient emphasis spectral maxima (TESM) is the previous typical strategy. When observing false peaks which are generated everywhere except speech onset, in the case of the proposed model, the false peak were generated much less than in the case of the TESM and it is more distinguishable under noise.

  • The aim of this study was to describe Enneagram personality types, ego-resilience and to investigate the effects of ego-resilience on college adaptation in nursing and health care related students. The subjects were 623 students in 1st and 2nd grade. The data were collected from October 7 to 23, 2014 and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, multiple regression with SPSS 19.0. A positive correlation was found ego-resilience and college adaptation with Enneagram personality types. Personality type 4 and 5 in Enneagram were the lowest level in ego-resilience and college adaptation. The strongest predictor of college adaptation was optimistic attitude in ego-resilience. Optimistic attitude, confidence, emotional control, and academic grades were explained 61.6% of the college adaptation based on multiple regression analysis. These findings indicate that it is necessary to increase ego-resilience according to Enneagram personality types for positive college adaptation.

  • This paper presents an effective recognition method of VPI patient's speech for a VPI speech reconstruction system. Speaker adaptation technique is employed to improve VPI speech recognition. This paper proposes to use simulated speech for generating an initial model for speaker adaptation, in order to effectively utilize the small size of VPI speech for model adaptation. We obtain 83.60% in average word accuracy by applying MLLR for speaker adaptation. The proposed speaker adaptation method using simulated speech model brings 6.38% improvement in average accuracy. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed speaker adaptation method is highly effective for developing recognition system of VPI speech which is not suitable for constructing large-size speech database.

  • To provide efficient video streaming service over a wireless networks, the rate adaptation scheme should be applied at the low layer and the quality adaptation scheme should be considered at the high layer. In this paper, we propose a new cross-layer design which includes rate adaptation scheme at the MAC/PHY layers and quality control at the application layer. Proposed rate adaptation scheme improves the wireless channel utilization by transmitting the consecutive frames and selects optimal transmission mode by calculating the goodputs for each transmission mode. Based on selected transmission mode, the rate adaptation scheme calculates the rate limits and informs that to the application layer. Then the video streaming application utilizes this rate limits to adjust the quality of the video stream. Through performance evaluations, we prove that our cross-layer design improves the quality of the wireless video streaming service by means of the proposed rate adaptation scheme.

  • In this study, we examined the effects of University adaptation on career adaptation through self-leadership and learning commitment, and identified the regulatory effects of demographic characteristics (sex, grade, grade level, and willingness to work). To this end, we analyzed the data for 289 college students. The results of the study are as follows. First, adaptation to University life has a significant impact on learning commitment and self-leadership. However, adaptation to University life has an indirect effect on learning commitment and self-leadership rather than directly affecting career adaptation. Second, demographic characteristics have a regulatory effect on the path through which University adaptation affects career adaptation through self-leadership and learning commitment. The factors that were regulated were age, grade, and willingness to work. Therefore, in order to adapt to university life and adapt to career, we developed a program to improve self-leadership and learning commitment, and suggested that customized guidance is needed considering the differences in personal characteristics such as gender and academic background in university life and career counseling.
