A study on analysis of the Relationship Oral bacteria to dental caries experience in disabled student's: in Gyeong-nam (경남지역 특수학교 학생의 구강내 세균검사에 따른 영구치우식경험률에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the Dentocult SM and LB scores of students and their DMF rate. The subjects in this study were 134 special school students in south Gyeong-sang province. After they were tested to find out their, they received tooth brushing education and preventive treatment. The test, education and treatment were all conducted from March 17 to April 9, 2008. Their oral state was checked and recorded by using a mirror and explorer, and then the data on oral state were analyzed to their DMFT, DT, FT and MT rates. All the collected data were analyzed with SPSS 15.0 for Windows program, and independent-samples t-test, one-way ANOVA and crosstabs analysis were implemented to see what differences their disability type, gender, Dentocult-SM scores and Dentocult-LB scores made. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for connections between disability type and DMFT rate, the students with mental retardation were similar to the other students in that regard. The mentally retarded students had higher DT and FT rates than the other students, and the MT rate of the latter was higher than that of the former. 2. Concerning the relationship of gender to DMFT and DT rates, the girls had larger DMFT and DT rates than the boys, and the FT and MT rates of the boys were higher than those of the girls. 3. As to links between Dentocult SM scores on the tongue and DMFT, the students whose bacteria was mildly activated had the highest DMFT rate, and the students who had a severely activated bacteria had the highest DT and FT rates. Those who had a moderately activated bacteria had the highest MT rate. 4.Regarding the connection of Dentocult SM scores on maxillyright molar to DMFT and DT rates, the students whose bacteria was severely activated had the highest DMFT and DT rates. Those who had no activated bacteria had the largest FT rate, and the students who had a mildly activated bacteria had the highest MT rate. 5.Regarding the connection of Dentocult SM scores on maxillyleft molar to DMFT and DT rates, the students whose bacteria was severely activated had the highest DMFT and DT rates. Those who had no activated bacteria had the largest FT rate, and the students who had a mildly activated bacteria had the largest MT rate. 6. Regarding the connection of Dentocult SM scores on mandibularright molar to DMFT and DT, FT rates, the students whose bacteria was severely activated had the highest DMFT and DT, FT rates. Those who had a moderately activated bacteria had the highest MT rate. 7. Regarding the connection of Dentocult SM scores on mandibularleft molar to DMFT and DT rates, the students whose bacteria was mildly activated had the highest DMFT and DT rates. Those who had no activated bacteria had the largest FT rate, and the students who had a moderately activated bacteria had the highest MT rate. 8. Regarding the connection of Dentocult LB scores to DMFT and DT rates, the students whose bacteria was severely activated had the highest DMFT and DT rates. Those who had no activated bacteria had a moderately FT rate, the students who had a mildly activated bacteria had a mildly MT rate.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the general characteristics of school health teachers, the status of school health resources and the degrees of self-confident performance for the 124 school health teachers in Pusan City. Data was collected by means of questionaires from Aug. 1986 to Mar. 1987. The data were analyzed by use of percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson-correlation coefficient. The results of this study were as follows: 1 . General Characteristics of School Health Teachers (SHT) 1) The average of age of the SHT was 32.8 years old and 39.5% of them were from 30 to 34 years old. 2) The average for school nursing experience of the SHT was 7.9 years and 37.9% of them were from 5 to 9 years. 3) The 45.2% of them have not the clinical experience. 4) The 74.2% of them were graduated from the 3 years college of nursing. 2. Status of school health resources and nursing activities. 1) The average of student number was 2497.3 and class number was 45.2. 2) The average of school health budget was 1039000 won and 27.7% of school health budget expended on examination cost. 3) Only 29.0% of all schools have organization for school health. 4) The 84.7% of all schools have health clinic separately and 69.1% of schools have less than $33m^2$ sized. 5) The average of clinic visitor number was 2111.8 for 1 year. 6) Major problem was on digestive system. And other problems were skin, respiratory, musculo-skeletal system and dental problem. 7) The number of literal message was 14.4 times for 1 year. 3. The degree of the school health teachers' self-confidence.   • The purpose of this study was to identify physical. psychological. sexual and socio-cultural problems that the adolescents have experienced and to assess the demands of counseling about the experienced problems. The design of this study was descriptive-survery study. The sample size was 601 middle and high school students. Data analysis was done by frequencies. Percent. t -test. ANOVA. Pearson correlation coefficiency, stepwise regression and Cronbach's $\alpha$ Score was produced for the reliability of the tool by using the item analysis method. The results was as follows : 1. The distribution of the each item that the adolescents experienced according to the physical, psychalogical. Sexual and Socio-cultural problem Categories was examined. In the physical problem category, the number of items that half and more than half of the adolescents experienced of often or frequently were 10 among all 19 items. In the psychological problem category. 13 item were among all 19 items. In the sexual problem category, 1 item among all 17 items and in the socio-cultural problem category, 10 items were among all 30 items. 2. The distribution of the each items that the adolescents wanted to the counseling according to the physical. psychological. sexual and socio-cultural problem categories was examined. In the physical problem category, the numbers of the items that half and more than half of the adolescents wanted counseling were 1 among all 19 items. In the psychological problem category, the numbers of the items that half and more than half of the adolescents wanted counseling were 2 items among all 19 items. In the sexual problem category, 0 item among all 17 items and in the socio-cultural problem category, 2 items were among all 30 items. 3. In the comparison of the female student and male student about the experienced problems and the demands of counseling according to the physical. psychological. sexual and socio-cultural problem categories. There was a significant difference statistically in all categories between groups(P<.001) 4. In the comparison of high school students and middle school students about the demands of counseling according to the physical. psychological. sexual and socio-cultural problem categories(P<.001). Particulary, grade II of high school students have experienced problems according to the physical. psychological. sexual and socio-cultural problem categories. There was a significant difference statistically in all categories(P<.001). 5. In the correlation between the experienced problem and the demands of counseling according to 4 categories. there was the positive correlation at P<.001 level. 6. The less the satisfaction for family and school life. the more experienced problems according to the physical. psychological. sexual and socio-cultural problem categories. There was a significant difference statistically in all categories(P<.001).

Student Satisfaction and Achievement after Role-playing in a Pediatric Dentistry Class (소아치과 역할극 수업에 대한 학생들의 만족도와 성취도)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of learning with role-playing on student satisfaction and achievement regarding behavior management teaching in pediatric dentistry. 93 students were divided into 19 groups and randomly assigned to role-play as a doctor, patient, parent, assistant, or narrator. Their performances were evaluated by the instructor and the satisfaction survey was conducted. All participants took the written test and were asked to compare lecture and role-playing with regard to the effectiveness of learning. Statistical analysis was performed with Mann-Whitney U test, Independent T-test, and Kruskal-Wallis test. 68 students (73.1%) who believed that the role-playing was more helpful than lecture showed higher level of satisfaction than students who believed lecture was more helpful. But there were no differences in the tutor evaluation score and the written test scores. Participants in the patient management scenario showed higher level of descriptive question scores of the written test and tutor evaluation score than those who participate in the parent management scenario. There were no differences between the role groups. Role-playing may help students to become more interested and participatory in learning behavior management. The level of satisfaction may differ by the design and content of the scenario.

  • I'd like to introduce a teaching method to improve learning efficiency. Most students are likely to ignore what they don't understand in the class of a course. The subject of Occlusion is essential to understanding prosthodontic and orthodontic subjects. It is necessary to let students know and review what they don't understand among parts of a chapter in the course of Occlusion. Therefore I look over the examination papers after every examination and input the problems that each student didn't solve into the C-language computer program and print the list of the contents that each student must study particularly. I give the lists to students and let them review and present their own weak parts of a chapter in the course of Occlusion in the next class. This teaching method leads to improvement in learning and is helpful to students as well as lecturers.

In vitro comparison of measurement accuracy In pre-enlarged and enlarged canals with four apex locators (근관 성형 전후의 네 가지 전자근관장측정기의 측정 정확성의 비교)

  • The purposes of this study were to assess the accuracy of measurements in pre-enlarged canals with small instruments and to compare the accuracies, in enlarged canal, with small size instruments and instruments that match the actual canal diameter using Root ZX, Bingo1020, SmarPex, and e-Magic Finder. Ten extracted teeth were embedded in an alginate model made for testing apex locators. A size 10 file was placed into the root canal until the tip of the file reached the plane of the major diameter of the foramen under a dental operating microscope at the 25 x magnification. The measurement was done with digital caliper and defined as actual length. Electronic length measurement with a size 10 file in pre-enlarged canal was done by reading the index indicating Apex of each device to gain a definite value After completion of canal enlargement to a size 45 file, each difference between actual length and electric measurement value with a size 10 and 40 files in enlarged canal was recorded as L10 and L40. The one-way ANOVA and Scheffe's multiple range tests were computed for analyze the differences among the four apex locators in the same group. The Student's t-test between L10 and L40 of each locator was done. The accuracies of electronic measurements were significantly different among the 4 devices. The file size made no difference on the accuracy of electronic measurement in enlarged canal with same device. The e-Magic Finder was the most accurate device among the 4 apex locators used in this study.

Effect of the difference in spectral outputs of the single and dual-peak LEDs on the microhardness and the color stability of resin composites (Single-peak LED와 dual-peak LED의 출력 파장 차이가 복합 레진 미세 경도와 색 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: To determine the effect of the spectral output of single and dual-peak light emitting diode (LED) curing lights on the microhardness and color stability of commercial resin composites formulated with camphorquinone and alternative photoinitiators in combination. Materials and Methods: Three light-polymerized resin composites (Z100 (3M ESPE), Tetric Ceram (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Aelite LS Posterior (Bisco)) with different photoinitiator systems were used. The resin composites were packed into a Teflon mold (8 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness) on a cover glass. After packing the composites, they were light cured with single-peak and dual-peak LEDs. The Knoop microhardness (KHN) and color difference (${\Delta}E$) for 30 days were measured. The data was analyzed statistically using a student's t-test (p < 0.05). Results: All resin composites showed improved microhardness when a third-generation dual-peak LED light was used. The color stability was also higher for all resin composites with dual-peak LEDs. However, there was a significant difference only for Aelite LS Posterior. Conclusions: The dual-peak LEDs have a beneficial effect on the microhardness and color stability of resin composites formulated with a combination of camphorquinone and alternative photoinitiators.

A Convergence Study on the Meaningful Activity Experience of the Elderly (노인의 의미 있는 활동에 관한 융합 연구)

  • The purpose of this study, a self-written questionnaire was conducted on 110 people aged 65 or older to analyze the factors of meaningful activities in elderly. As a research methods were student t-test and one-way ANOVA were conducted using the SPSS statistical program, and hierarchical regression analysis was performed to identify factors affecting meaningful activities of the elderly. As a result of the study, the highest score was 3.95±0.64 in "I think my work (activity) with my family is rewarding." As a result of hierarchical regression analysis, the factors affecting the meaningful activities of the elderly were 'resident' in both stages 1(β=-.308, p=.002), 2(β=-.330, p=<.001), and 3(β=-.281, p=<.001), and 'age(β=-.215, p=.026)' in the second stage, indicating that the factors affecting the meaningful activities of the elderly were 'resident' and 'age'. In conclusion, it's necessary to develop and apply a systematic program that prioritizes conversation and communication while working with families for the younger elderly(65-74). In the future, it will be necessary to systematically apply various programs for meaningful activities in old age.

A STUDY ON THE SIZE AND VOLUME OF THE PALATE (구개의 크기 및 용적에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify the palatal arch length, width and volume in the primary and permanent dentition. Samples were consisted of normal occlusion in the primary dentition(50 males and 50 females) and permanent dentition(43 males and 43 females). Their upper plaster casts were used and through 3-dimensional laser scanning(3D Scanner, DS4060, LDI, U.S.A.), cloud data, polygonization, section curve, loft surface and fit and horizontal plane were made for measuring the palatal arch length, width and volume(Surfacer 10.0, Imageware, U.S.A.). Correlation coefficients were calculated separately for males and females in each group(SPSS 10.0). The results were as follows : 1. Average distance from the fit plane to the points(tooth-tooth-palate) was greater in the permanent dentition than those of primary dentition. 2. Palatal volume was greater more than 3 times in the permanent dentition, especially it was greater in male compared to female with significance(p<0.05). 3. Palatal width of male was greater in the primary and permanent dentition but palatal length, only in the permanent dentition than that of female(P<0.05). 4. Correlation coefficients were statistically most significant between the palatal volume and size of posterior palatal width and total palatal length(r=0.401, r=0.450, r=0.678, r=0.654).

Flexual strength of resins for provisional fixed prostheses (임시 고정성 보철물 제작용 레진의 굽힘강도)

  • Provisional fixed partial dentures(FPDs) are an important part of many prosthodontic treatment procedures. These provisional fixed prostheses must fulfill biologic, mechanical, and esthetic requirements to be considered successful. Consideration of all these factors and requirements are important because provisional resin restorations may be worn over a long period to assess the results of periodontal and endodontics therapies, and also during the restorative phase of implant reconstructive procedures. This in vitro study examined flexual strength of four resins commonly used for fixed provisional prostheses. The effects of polymerization conditions were also evaluated. The four resins tested were : Caulk Temporary bridge resin(L.D. Caulk Co. Dentsply International Millford), Jet(Lang Dental Mfg. Co. Chicago. ILL. U.S.A), Alike (Coe Laboratories. Inc. Chicago. ILL. U.S.A) and Tokuso Curefast (Coe Laboratories. Inc. Chicago. ILL. U.S.A) The test specimens were 65mm long, 14mm wide, and 3.5mm thickness. 10 specimens of four resins were cured for 15 minutes at atmospheric pressure and 10 specimens of four resins were cured at an additional pressure of approximately 20 psi. A total of 80 specimens were prepared. The flexual strength was determined by three-point bending test. Data were analysed with the Paired samples T-test and Tukey student-range test Within the limitations imposed in this study, the following conclusions can be drawn : 1. Under the condition of bench curing, Caulk Temporary bridge resin showed the highest flexual strength. In decreasing order, the flexual strength of the other materials was as follows : Jet, Tokuso Curefast, Alike, and Caulk Temporary bridge resin demonstrated significantly higher strength than other resins. 2. Under the condition of pressure curing, Jet showed the highest flexual strength. In decreasing order, the flexual strength of the other materials was as follows : Caulk Temporary bridge resin, Tokuso Curefast, and Alike. There were all statistically significant differences among four resins 3. There was a statistically significant difference between bench- and pressure-cured specimens in all four materials.
