Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of elderly-related experience on attitude toward elderly in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 213 dental hygiene students in Suwon from November 21 to 30, 2012. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, elderly-related experience, knowledge on elderly, and attitude toward elderly by Likert 7 points scale. The instrument for knowledge on elderly was adapted from facts on aging quiz-I by Palmore and modified by Kim et al. Data were analyzed by t test, one way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The attitude toward the elderly was $2.79{\pm}0.42$. The elderly-related experience had a positive influence on the attitude toward elderly(p=0.019) according to the level of experiencing the elderly(r=0.161, p<0.05). The influence of elderly-related experience on attitude toward the elderly showed that an experiencing variable is key factor in predicted variable of the attitude toward the elderly(${\beta}$=0.177 p=0.015). Conclusions: Elderly-related experience had an effect on positive attitude toward the elderly people in the dental hygiene students. It is necessary to develop and implement the education program for the exact knowledge and attitude toward the elderly.

The attitude towards the law was low in age of younger than 25 years, a three year college degree, a job position as a staff member, more than 5 years of work experience at present work place, and less than 3 years of clinical experience (p<0.05). Understanding of medical related laws was high in clinical staff members and with less than 3 years of clinical experience (p<0.05). Educational needs for medical dispute prevention was high in a job position as a staff member, low level of attitude towards dental hygienist-related medical law, and no attainment of education on medical dispute (p<0.05). Background: The use of dental floss along with a toothbrush is a well-known oral hygiene product that effectively removes dental plaque and reduces the risk of dental caries and periodontal disease. Despite the fact that various types of floss are being used, flossing methods based on the thread type are being taught. In addition, personal preference according to the floss types has not been investigated. In this study, individual preferences according to the floss types were investigated by experiencing various types of dental floss to both floss users and non-users. In addition, the change in intention to use dental floss in the future after flossing experience of non-users was investigated. Methods: General public participated in the individual interview survey (n=419). Subjects responded to the questionnaire after using all of the thread type, Y-type, and C-type floss. All statistics were expressed frequencies and percentages for categorical variables, and the chi-squared test was used to determine the statistical significance of associations between the variables. Results: As a result of the analysis, the preference of C-type floss was highest in both floss users and non-users. The biggest reason for not using dental floss was not knowing the necessity of flossing (36.4%). In addition, both floss users and non-users responded that C-type floss was suitable for flossing in the anterior and posterior regions. The change in the positive future intention to use dental floss after flossing experience of non-users was statistically significantly associated with age. Conclusion: This result suggests that there is a need to provide education on how to use dental floss in various forms. Based on this, it will be possible to lead a change in individual's attitude for future oral health through active and continuous flossing experience.
The aim of this study was to provide practical information regarding career exploration to dental hygiene students. This study interviewed 15 senior dental hygienists (graduates of Y University Dental Hygiene program) who have worked in non-clinical fields for about three months from January 14, 2014 to April 28. The most frequently mentioned pieces of information that the senior dental hygienists wanted to convey to dental hygiene students were as followed. Contrary to popular belief, clinical experience was also required in non-clinical fields as the importance of clinical experience was quite often and widely emphasized and applied in such fields. High academic excellence and clinical performance were expected of junior dental hygienists and the senior dental hygienists expressed their hope for their juniors to pioneer new fields and areas of work that a dental hygienist can do. Most of the senior dental hygienists pointed out that to develop technical tools for career exploration as early as possible, such as during undergraduate years and to think about which career path to take, whether it is clinical or academic were significantly important factors for desirable career outcomes. Based on the results of this study, undergraduate dental hygiene students should be provided with opportunities to consider and explore various career paths during their undergraduate years and to communicate with their seniors for hands-on experience-based advices. This would in turn broaden each student's perspective beyond their knowledge or thought about the professional filed of dental hygiene. It was found that the majority of the senior dental hygienists agreed that their clinical experience was the source of their self-competence as a dental hygienist. Our study could be utilized as a valuable resource for future dental hygienists who wish to work in non-clinical fields.
To find out the relationship between the experience of clinical practice and the performance confidence, some 2nd and 3rd grade students in D health college who completed clinical practice in 2008. Sept. were surveyed. The results are as follows. 1. During the clinical practice of the dental hygiene students, the performance experience was highest in the basic prep. part among every part. As for the dental hygiene part, the students showed more than 70%, rather higher performance experience in the following parts: arrangement before and after treatment, suction, basic instruments setup, local anesthesia setup, extraction setup, resin filling setup, temporary filling setup, cements mixing, and ligation and removal setup. 2. As for performance confidence, those with performance experience showed higher performance confidence than those with only observation experience or with no experience in every treatment field except basic prep. (p < 0.001). 3. It was proven that the hygiene students have seldom had performance experience in other treatment parts except in assisting treatment part in clinical practice. In order to improve future performance experience on dental hygiene activities, subsequent research is needed to set more specific and objective criterion about the dental hygiene students' clinical practice.

In order to examine the necessity of oral-health education, the self-recorded questionnaires had been widely distributed and surveyed from June 2006 to May 2007. The following results were obtained on the basis of comparative analysis through the collected materials. 1. As a result of surveying the actual condition of managing oral health, regarding the frequency of tooth brush, the dental hygiene students were the largest in 3 times. And, the non-dental hygiene students were indicated to be the largest in two times(p < 0.01). 2. As for the experience of scaling, the dental hygiene students were the most in having experience(50.9%), and the non-dental hygiene students were the most in having no experience(56.8%)(p < 0.001). 3. As a result of examining about the experience of oral-health education, the dental hygiene students were many in a case of having experience. And, the non-dental hygiene students were many in a case of having no experience(p < 0.001). The findings of the study showed that in terms of the state of oral health care, the dental hygiene students who received a lot of oral health education excelled the other students who didn't.

The final score of RULA evaluation results was 6 on average requiring continuous observation and urgent demand for work improvements. According to the result of RULA evaluation by work, the orthodontic clinics were 4.5, prosthodontic clinics were 5.0, and dental surgery clinics were 6.8 being the most risky. Conclusions : The study showed high complaints rate on musculoskeletal disorders in dental hygienists. Thus, various measures including provision of proper working and rest hours, use of ergonomic working equipments, strengthening the health education for desirable working posture and the development of musculoskeletal disorder prevention program should be needed.
