Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 126 dental hygienists in Seoul, Kyonggi and other area from October 1 to November 15, 2012. The instrument of the study was adapted from Jung and reconstructed. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(9 questions) and recognition for clinical trials(10 questions). Recognition for clinical trials instrument included recognition for clinical trial conception(2 questions), objective recognition(5 questions), and subjective recognition for clinical trial(3 questions). The instrument was score by Likert 5 scale and Cronbach alpha was 0.936 in the study. Data were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 program and set at p<0.05. Independent t-test, chi-square test, one way ANOVA, and post-hoc Duncan test were done. Results: Those who had higher ages and higher education tended to have longer clinical careers(p<0.05). There was a significant difference in clinical trials between the level of education, clinical dental hygienists and professors. The differences in problem perception for activation of clinical trial according to workplace appeared to lack of publicity and inadequacy of facilities(p<0.05). Conclusions: To improve the perception of the clinical trials in dental hygienists, it is necessary to prepare the human resources programs, the additional curricula, continuing education courses and active publicity.

Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 200 dental hygienists in Gyeongbuk from January 3 to February 20, 2013. Data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program. The instrument of impowerment was adapted from Spreitzer and consisted of 12 questions including meaning(4 questions), competency(4 questions), self-decision(4 questions), and impact(4 questions). Impowerment was score by Likert 5 scale and higher score means higher impowerment. The instrument for hand washing recognition and practice was adapted from Kim and consisted of hand washing(5 questions), personal protective clothing management(5 questions), contaminated appliance management(3 questions), sterilization(3 questions), and infection control environment(8 questions). The empowerment instrument was score by Likert 5 scale and the mean was 3.83 points. Based on 3.83, infection control recognition and practice were divided into upper group and lower group. Cronbach alpha was 0.951 in empowerment, 0.931 in recognition, and 0.924 in practice in the study. Results: Based on the average points of 3.83, the groups were divided into two groups including upper group and lower group. The upper group showed higher score in hand washing than the lower group. In the protective clothing management, the upper group changed the mask at one-hour interval(p<0.001). Conclusions: In the viewpoint of empowerment, it had a significant influence on the perception and practice of the dental infection control in the dental hygienists.

Results: The preliminary instrument includes 44 item. 22 items were excluded by variable analysis. 17 final items was selected by exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was composed of four elements, 'organization fit', 'interpersonal relationship', 'identity', and 'job connectivity'. Conclusions: The validity and reliability of measurement tool for dental hygienist's intention to stay was proved. It could be used to help dental hygienist's long-term employment.

Data were analyzed through t-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The instruments used personality types and satisfaction of education. The personality types was adapted from Korean Eyesenck Personality Questionnaire that was modified by Lee on the basis of Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(Eysenck & Eysenck, 1971). The questionnaire consisted of 44 questions including extroversion factors(18 questions) and neurotic tendency(26 questions). The questionnaire was score by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach alpha was 0.835 in the study. The neurotic tendency consisted of 26 questions and the higher score showed the higher neurotic tendency. Cronbach alpha was 0.927 in the study. The instrument for satisfaction of education was adapted from Kim and Go and partly modified. The instrument was categorized into dental hygiene department satisfaction(6 questions), major satisfaction(6 questions), facilities satisfaction(4 questions), lecture satisfaction(7 questions), and faculty satisfaction(4 questions). The instrument was scored by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach alpha of education satisfaction was 0.928 in the study. Results: Extroverted students showed 3.70 point which was the highest score in the department satisfaction(p<0.001). Less neurotic students showed 3.68 point which was the highest score in the department satisfaction(p<0.001). There was a strong positive correlation between the major satisfaction and department satisfaction(p<0.01). The personality types that affected the education satisfaction were related to the extroverted students and less neurotic students(p<0.01). Conclusions: The personality types had much influences on the satisfaction of the major and academic accomplishment.

  • This study aimed to investigate and compare the perception of personal protective equipments and instrument sterilization of students who are in attendance at colleges and universities and which have bedside training as a regular subject in their curriculum for third-year students. 'Completely True' is the highest response to the question about the importance of wearing gloves, mask and medical gown from all groups. 'Completely True' is the highest response to the question about the necessity for replacement of gloves from all groups. 'Moderate True' is the highest response to the question about the necessity for replacement of mask from the group without practical training and 'Completely True' is the highest response to the question about the importance of hair cleanliness from all groups regardless of practical training experience. For the question about the perception of instrument disinfection and sterilization, the group with inside and outside practical training showed the highest perception level. Consequently, the right education for prevention of infection by setting inclusive guidelines to enhance the level of perception and practice seems continuously necessary.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the depth according to curing using photocurable resin for dental three-dimensional printing. Methods: A stainless mold with a height of 4 mm was prepared. Ultraviolet (UV) polymerization resin was injected into the mold. Photocuring was then performed for 5 minutes using a photopolymerizer, and the height was measured using a digital measuring instrument (first group). Second, light polymerization was also performed outside the mold for 5 minutes, and the height was measured using a digital measuring instrument. Third, light polymerization was further performed for 5 minutes, and the height was measured using a digital measuring instrument. Statistical analysis was performed with the Kruskal-Wallis test, which is a nonparametric test (α=0.05). Results: The third group had the largest measurement length, whereas the first group had the smallest. However, the difference between groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05). The color of the first group was different from that of the second and third groups. Conclusion: All of the 4-mm-thick photocured specimens had a curing reaction, but the part that was not directly irradiated with UV did not show its original color.

  • Intraoperative breakage of instruments can be occurred unexpectedly. To prevent damage of neighboring important anatomic structures and consequent complications, broken instruments should be removed as soon as possible. There have been several methods to remove broken instruments. One of them is the Carm fluoroscopy which is commonly used for locating metal foreign bodies. However, its application for removal of broken instruments in the oral and maxillofacial area is not common. In our experiences with the removal of two broken instruments in mandibular area, the newly developed dental mini C-arm was used to find broken instrument in soft tissue, because it gives real-time in situ information for the intraoperative location. We report two cases with broken instruments, a broken dental needle in the pterygomandibular space and a broken straight bur in the mandibular angle area. They were identified and could be removed safely using a dental mini C-arm.
