임상치과위생사의 윤리적 딜레마와 전문직업성 (Clinical Dental Hygienist's Ethical Dilemma and Professionalism)

  • 본 연구는 임상에 근무하는 치과위생사를 대상으로 윤리적 딜레마와 치과위생사의 전문직업성 정도를 파악하고자 393명을 대상으로 설문조사 하였으며, SPSSWIN 18.0을 이용하여 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 윤리적 딜레마 영역별로 치과위생사와 전문직 업무가 2.62점, 치과위생사와 대상자 2.41점, 치과위생사와 협동자 2.34점 순이었고, 전체적 딜레마 점수는 2.46점으로 나타났다. 2. 전문직업성 영역별로 공공봉사심이 3.55점, 자율성 3.42점, 전문조직에의 준거성 3.14점, 소명의식 3.01점 순으로 나타났으며, 전체 전문직업성은 3.28점으로 나타났다 3. 윤리적 딜레마의 세부영역 중 치과위생사의 전문직 업무 영역은 공공봉사심, 소명의식 및 전체적 전문직업성, 치과위생사와 협동자 영역은 공공봉사심과 소명의식, 치과위생사와 대상자 영역은 자율성과 소명의식, 전체적인 윤리적 딜레마에서는 공공봉사심과 소명의식에서 약하지만 유의한 부의 상관관계를 보였다. 4. 일반적 특성에 따른 전체적 딜레마는 연령에서 21-24세, 학력은 대학원 이상, 결혼 상태는 미혼, 근무지는 치과병원 및 대학병원인 경우, 근무경력이 1-3년 이하에서 점수가 높았으나 집단 간 차이는 크지 않았으며, 통계적으로도 유의한 차이가 없었다. 5. 일반적 특성에 따른 전문직업성은 연령이 많을수록, 교육정도가 높을수록, 기혼인 경우, 근무경력이 많을수록 전문직업성 정도가 높은 것으로 나타났고, 통계적으로도 유의한 차이를 보였다. 6. 전문직업성에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 학력과 근무경력이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과로 윤리적 가치관 확립을 위한 지속적인 전문직업성 교육프로그램 개발로 전문직업성 함양을 위한 방안이 모색되어야 한다고 사료된다.

구조방정식을 이용한 치과위생사의 전문직업성, 자기효능감이 직무만족에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Professionalism and Self-efficacy on the Job Satisfaction of Dental Hygienists Using the Structural Equation Model)

  • 본 연구는 구조방정식을 이용한 치과위생사의 전문직업성, 자기효능감이 직무만족에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 616명을 대상으로 설문조사 하였으며, SPSSWIN 18.0과 AMOS 20 통계프로그램을 이용하여 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 치과위생사의 전문직업성은 3.34점, 자기효능감 3.76점, 직무만족도 3.36점으로 나타났다. 2. 연령이 많을수록, 교육정도가 높을수록, 기혼인 경우, 근무경력이 많을수록 전문직업성, 자기효능감 및 직무만족도 정도가 높은 것으로 나타났고, 통계적으로도 유의한 차이를 보였다. 3. 본 연구모형은 전문직업성과 자기효능감의 상관계수는 .69, 전문직업성$\rightarrow$직무만족도 경로에서는 .33, 자기효능감$\rightarrow$직무만족도 경로에서는 .59로 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 전문직업성과 자기효능감과의 상관관계는 어느 정도 있는 것으로 나타났고, 전문직업성 보다는 자기효능감이 높을수록 직무만족도가 증가하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 직무만족은 조직 내의 다양한 환경과 개인의 내적 요인에 영향을 받는다. 직무만족이 중요한 이유는 의료서비스의 질생산성과 함께, 치과위생사 개인의 삶의 질과도 연관되기 때문이다. 변화하는 시대에 대응하기 위해서는 치과위생사의 직무만족도를 증가시키기 위한 조직의 변화와 노력뿐만 아니라, 치과위생사들의 직업에 대한 확신, 전문직업성과 자기효능감을 향상시키기 위한 노력이 함께 동반되어야 한다.

치과위생사의 특성에 따른 직무만족도에 관한 조사 연구 (A study on the relationship of characteristics to job satisfaction among dental hygienists)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the job satisfaction of dental hygienists at nine areas including professionalism. autonomy of job performance. backing system. relationship with colleagues. relationship with workers of higher and lower position. relationship with dentists. relationship with supporting departments, relationship with patients and compensation. The subjects in this study were 178 dental hygienists in dental hospitals and clinics. The survey was conducted from December. 2007 to January. 2008. Date were collected by self-administrated questionnaire. A SPSS 10.0 for Windows was used for statistical analysis. So try to for make basic data analysis recognition of enhance job satisfaction of dental hygienist. The findings of the study were as follows : 1. Regarding the relationship of career to job satisfaction. the dental hygienists who worked for one or two years were most satisfied in terms of professionalism. as they got a mean of 3.84. 2. As for connections between academic credential and job satisfaction. those who graduated from junior colleges expressed the best satisfaction at professionalism. since they got a mean of 3.75. 3. As to link between current service area and job satisfaction. the dental hygienists who worked in the region of Gyeong-nam were most gratified with professionalism. as they got a mean of 3.76. 4. Concerning relations between the type of workplace and job satisfaction. the dental hospital employees were most contented with professionalism. as they got a mean of 3.79. 5. In regard to the number of dental hygienists at current workplace and job satisfaction. those whose workplace hired 20 or 30 dental hygienists expressed the best satisfaction with the relationship with dentists. They got a mean of 3.94.

임상치과위생사의 행복지수에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Influencing factors on happiness index in clinical dental hygienists)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of happiness index in dental hygienists. This study can be used to improve the quality of life and the turnover intention in the dental hygienists. Methods: The subjects were 281 dental hygienists in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheong province. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by the subjects. The questionnaire consisted of 7 questions of general characteristics of the subjects, 7 questions of dental hygiene performance, and 9 questions of happiness index. The instrument for happiness index was modified from Suh and Koo. Cronbach's alpha was 0.850 in the happiness index measure by Likert 7 scale. The instrument for professionalism was modified from Baek and consisted of 25 questions measure by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha was 0.694 in the professionalism. The instrument for turnover intention was modified from Lee and consisted of 5 questions measured by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha was 0.712 in turnover intention. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. for one way ANOVA, Duncan posthoc test, Pearson correlation coefficients and hierarchical regression. Results: The means of happiness index, professionalism and turnover intention of subjects were 4.44, 3.06 and 3.05, respectively. The happiness index was higher in those who are married(4.66), those who have high income, and those who have careers in dental hygienists(4.61). There were significant differences in the happiness index by the average daily working hours, place of treatment, work intensity and off duty hours. Conclusions: This study suggests that improvement of the happiness index in clinical dental hygienists requires the continuing and systematic education program and administrative support that can reduce the turnover intention.

학제에 따른 치위생(학)과 학생의 진로정체감과 전문직업성의 비교 (Comparison of Career Identity and Professionalism among Dental Hygiene Students according to Educational System)

  • 본 연구는 3년제, 4년제 치위생과 재학생의 학제에 따른 진로정체감과 전문직업성을 비교하여 향후 치과위생사의 교육과정 개발과 교육방향 설정의 기초자료를 활용하고자 충청지역에 재학 중인 치위생과 학생 579명을 대상으로 설문조사하였으며, SPSS WIN 12.0을 이용하여 분석한 결과 다음과 결론을 얻었다. 1. 학제별 학년에 따른 진로정체감은 3년제에서는 1학년(2.73)이, 4년제에서는 3학년(2.67)이 가장 높았으며, 전문직업성은 3년제에서는 1학년(3.34), 4년제에서는 4학년(3.29)이 가장 높았다. 2. 전공선택동기에 따른 진로정체감은 3년제(2.78), 4년제(2.75)에서 '높은 급여'가 가장 높았으며(p<.01), 전문직업성은 3년제에서는 '적성', '평생직업'(3.44)이, 4년제에서는 '평생직업'(3.29)이 가장 높았다(p<.01). 3. 학제에 따른 진로정체감과 전문직업성은 유의한 상관관계가 나타났다. 본 결과로 3년제와 4년제에서 전문직업성이 진로정체감보다 점수가 높았고, 학제에 따른 입학만족도, 전공 선택의 비교에서는 3년제가 4년제보다 진로정체감이나 전문직업성이 평균점수가 높음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나, 3년제에서는 학년이 올라갈수록 두 항목의 점수가 낮았고, 4년제에서는 학년이 올라갈수록 두 항목의 점수가 높음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서, 각 학제의 특성에 맞는 차별화된 자아증진 프로그램 및 진로에 대한 교육프로그램이 개발되어야 할 것이다.

성역할정체감에 따른 치위생 전공선택 및 직업의식에 관한 조사 (Effect of gender role identity on choice of dental hygiene and professionalism)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of gender role identity on major choice, and preference and choice of job for applicants of dental hygiene department. Methods: The subjects were 202 high school girl students visiting K university in October, 2014 and in January, 2015 for the interview of early and regular admission to the university. The questionnaire consisted of 3 questions of general characteristics of the subjects, 40 questions of gender role identity, and 6 questions of career choice factors. Gender role identity included 15 questions of masculinity, 15 questions of feminity, and 10 questions of neutral gender using instrument of Kim by Likert scale. Cronbach's alpha of masculinity, feminity, and neutral gender was 0.810, 0.762, and 0.801 respectively. The data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test with SPSS Win 12.0. Results: The effects of gender role identity on major choice and professionalism were as follows. In major choice motivation, psychological type, feminity type and masculinity types selected aptitude, professional sustainability and recommendation by acquaintance in order, but undifferentiated type selected aptitude, recommendation by acquaintance and professional sustainability in order. There was a statistically significant difference(p<0.05). In major choice information, psychological, feminity and undifferentiated types prefer indirect experience but masculinity type prefers direct experience. There was a statistically significant difference(p<0.05) In job selection, psychological, feminity and undifferentiated types want to do assistant works rather than oral health prevention and education. Masculinity type want to do oral health prevention and education rather than assistant work. There was a statistically significant difference(p<0.001). Conclusions: The gender role identity affected the factors related to choice of major and job in dental hygiene major applicants. It is necessary to provide the career choice program for the high school students by personality types and gender role identity types.

일부 치위생과 학생들의 치과위생사 직무인식과 교과목 관련성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the relationship of dental hygienist job awareness and view of college courses amongs some dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the job awareness of dental hygiene students about a dental hygienist, what duties they wanted to do as dental hygienists, their awareness of college courses related to the job performance of dental hygienists and whether they viewed the courses as what's most widely utilized for the clinical job performance of dental hygienists. It's ultimately meant to help provide good education for dental hygiene students to have the right understanding of dental hygienists and bolster their professionalism. Methods : The subjects in this study were 301 dental hygiene students in four different colleges located in the metropolitan area. A survey was conducted to find out their satisfaction level with the department of dental hygiene, personal characteristics, awareness of college courses and awareness of the duties of dental hygienists. Results : The group of students who deemed the life span of the dental hygienist occupation to be long put more significance on the college courses that should focus on job performance. As for the relationship between their personal characteristics and awareness of the college courses, their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the department and their ideas on the life span of the occupation made significant differences to that. The group of students who considered the life span of the occupation to be longer thought that the college courses would be more linked to the duties of dental hygienists and their job performance and should be given more weight, and there were significant differences among them in their view of the life span of the occupation and awareness of the college courses that should be given more weight(p<.05). Their view of how much the college courses would be linked to the duties of dental hygienists had a statistically significant correlation to that of the college courses that should focus on the clinical job performance of dental hygienists. Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings suggest that as part of the regular curriculum, the kind of education that aims at boosting the professionalism and job performance of dental hygienists as experts should be provided for dental hygiene students to build the right values as professional dental hygienists.

일부 치위생(학)과 학생들의 치과위생사 국가고시 실기시험에서의 치주낭 측정 평가 필요성에 관한 연구 (Necessity of measuring the periodontal pocket depth according to dental hygiene studentsin the mock national board examination)

  • Background: This study was aimed at investigating the perception of the requirement of measuring the periodontal pocket depth of the dental hygiene students in the mock national board examination. Methods: SPSS 25.0 (IBM SPSS Statistics) was used to perform the independent t-test for the recognition level of dental hygiene students in the interdisciplinary practical national board examination. A p-value < 0.05 was set to indicate statistical significance. Results: Participants showed a high recognition level for the requirement of measuring the periodontal pocket depth without any difference among disciplines. When periodontal pocket depth measurement was included in the national board examination, the educational and clinical work of dental hygienists was expected to be unified, and the professionalism of dental hygienists was expected to be strengthened. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the feasibility of introducing periodontal pocket depth measurement in the practical national board examination for dental hygienists should be reviewed by a group of experts.

국내 의료보건계열 신설동향과 치위생(학)과 추이에 관한 연구 (Comparison between division of health science and dental hygiene in Korea)

  • Objectives : This review suggests prospect of educational institutions through research on the establishment trend of Korean dental hygiene programs by comparison with health science programs, analysis based on location and year. Methods : For the research, 78 dental hygiene programs, 11 dental colleges, 144 nursing programs, 41 medicine programs, 38 radiology programs, 49 optometry programs, 39 biomedical laboratory science programs, 65 physical therapy programs, 48 occupational therapy programs were analyzed using SPSS 12.0v. The result is as follows. Results : Establishment trend of dentistry-related programs and dental hygiene programs is twice as high as nursing programs and medicine-related programs. Number of 3-years dental hygiene programs is twice as high as 4-years dental hygiene programs. Entrance quota of 3-years dental hygiene programs is four time higher than 4-years programs. On regional basis, number of dental hygiene programs is the highest in Gyeonggi-do by 9 while it is the lowest in Incheon-si and Jeju-do by 1. Number of students in dental hygiene programs is the highest in Gyeonggi-do by 2,514. Establishment of dental hygiene programs showed the biggest increasing trend in Gyeonggi-do and Jeju-do from 1995 to 1999; and in Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Jeollanam-do from 2005 to 2010. Conclusions : Assurance of legal rights in the workplace and improvement of educational environment should take prudence over establishment of dental hygiene programs in order to develop professionalism among students in dental hygiene.

Competencies for Entry into the Profession of Dental Hygiene

  • This study was conducted to derive core and detailed competencies of dental hygienists to be utilized as educational targets to be reached by graduation as well as basic data that can be reflected in the development and improvement of dental hygiene curricula. This study analyzed publication reports from the Korean Dental Hygienists Association, the International Federation of Dental Hygienists, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and the American Dental Education Association. Based on the academic classification system for dental hygiene studies, the components of core and detailed competencies of dental hygiene school at the time of graduation were extracted and developed through expert panel discussions. This study defined competencies at the graduation level of dental hygiene school and derived eight core competencies and their 52 detailed competencies to serve as educational objectives from four areas: professionalism, communication, clinical practice, and community and health promotion. In the future, it will be necessary to conduct self-assessments of competencies based on those developed in this study, at time of the graduation from dental hygiene school, as well as to continuously develop competency-based curricula according to entry level, knowledge level, and graduation level. Thus, it is urgently necessary to develop a system that can evaluate the competencies of dental hygienists after graduation and put this system into practical use.
