The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of incorporated nano HA on the demineralization resistance and bonding strength of LC GIC in comparison with micro HA. Fuji II LC GIC was used as the control group and a base material for experimental groups. Two experimental groups were prepared. One was prepared by adding 15% micro HA to LC GIC by weight ratio (Exp. 1), and the other was prepared by adding 15% nano HA instead (Exp. 2). According to the results, the following conclusions could be obtained. 1. Observing under the CLSM, the control group showed thicker enamel demineralization layer than in the experimental groups, and the Exp. 2 group showed the thinnest demineralization layer. 2. In SEM analysis, there was greater enamel demineralization in the control group. The Exp. 2 group was more resistant to demineralization compared to the Exp. 1 group. 3. The bonding strength was found to be in the increasing order of control, Exp. 1, and Exp. 2 group (p < 0.05). 4. Observing the fractured surfaces under SEM after the bonding strength test was performed, there were bone-like apatite particles formed in HA-added experimental groups, and a greater number of bone-like apatite particles were formed in the Exp. 2 group compared to the Exp. 1 group.

Since it is favorable to include the incipient caries lesion in the diagnostic criteria in adolescence, this study had surveyed dental caries status of adolescents at ages of 13 and 16 by using WHO basic methods and ICDAS-II codes. In this study, mean DMFT index was 3.71, and mean DT index was 1.94. For both indices, the age 16 group showed higher values than the age 13 group. By groups of teeth, DMFT index and DT index exhibited highest to the lowest values in molar, premolar, and anterior teeth, respectively. 77.46% of total numbers of teeth were classified as code 0 in ICDAS-II. Compared to anterior teeth, numbers of decayed teeth were increased in posterior teeth. All caries lesions in anterior teeth and premolars were limited to enamel. ICDAS-II code is an useful method to detect the incipient caries lesion, allowing preventive control on caries management.

Purpose: The aim of this in vitro study was to assess changes in remineralization by stimulated human saliva over a short period of 48 hours with quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) technology. Materials and Methods: Bovine incisor surfaces were demineralized for 10 days. Two types of stimulated saliva were collected from 7 healthy persons. 24 hours after tooth brushing (Stimulated saliva group) and immediately after tooth brushing with 1,000 ppm NaF dentifrice (Dentifrice saliva group). The specimens were immersed in saliva and fluorescence images were obtained by QLF-digital (QLF-D $biluminator^{TM}$,) at 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours fluorescence loss (${\Delta}F%$) of the lesions. A paired t-test was performed to assess fluorescence differences between before (${\Delta}F_{baseline}$) and after (${\Delta}F_{treatment\;time}$) the remineralization process. Results: Before the remineralization, the mean ${\Delta}F_{baseline}$ of the initial demineralized specimens was $-18.42{\pm}0.15$ (%). In both groups, the ${\Delta}F$ values obtained at baseline and after 2 hours were statistically significant (P < 0.001), indicating recovery of the lesions by approximately 40% after 2 hours. After 48 hours, remineralization rates were slightly higher (49%) for the stimulated saliva group than for the dentifrice saliva group (41%), but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions: With QLF minute degrees of remineralization by saliva can be measured in periods as short as 2 hours. Additionally no significantly higher effects of remineralization were observed in the dentifrice saliva group when compared to the stimulated saliva group.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to evaluate the pH and buffering capacity in some commercial fermented milks in Korea. Methods : The study was carried ouf from June to August, 2012. In 35 liquid type, 79 condense-stirred type and 71 condense-drink type fermented milks, available on the market, pH and buffering capacity were measured. Titration(with NaOH) was used to determine the buffering effect of each fermented milk. They were titrated with 1 M sodium hydroxide, added in 0.1 milliliters increments, until the pH reached about 5.5 and 7.0. Results : The average pH of tested fermented milks was $4.08{\pm}0.27$. The average pH values of fermented milks were $3.64{\pm}0.22$ in liquid type, $4.14{\pm}0.12$ in condense-stirred type, and $4.22{\pm}0.17$ condense-drink type. The average buffering capacity (pH 5.5) of tested fermented milk was $2.40{\pm}0.54$. The average buffering capacity (pH 5.5) of liquid type fermented milk was $2.37{\pm}0.33$, condense-stirred type fermented milk was $2.77{\pm}0.46$ and condense-drink type fermented milk was $2.01{\pm}0.42$. The average buffering capacity (pH 7.0) of tested fermented milks was $4.00{\pm}0.87$. The average buffering capacity (pH 7.0) of liquid type fermented milk was $3.11{\pm}0.36$, condense-stirred type fermented milk was $4.78{\pm}0.55$ and condense-drink type fermented milk was $3.58{\pm}0.59$. Conclusions : The average pH of tested fermented milks in this study was lower than pH 4.5. The type of fermented milks was an important factor for selection of fermented milk which is related with enamel erosion.

One of the most important factor of esthetic prosthesis is the color of the teeth. Zirconia is produced in the process of design, milling, coloring, drying, and sintering. The effect of the drying degree of zirconia colorant on the color tone is examined. For the experiment, a total of 45 zirconia specimens(15 for each) were fabricated by using cad/cam system. The zirconia specimens(L block(LAZOR), Z block(Zircos-E block posterior), A block(AlphaZ)) were then subjected to zirconia sintering in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, using a chemical coloring agent to Non-drying(0sec), intermediate (10sec), and completely dried (10min) temperature holding times. The color tone was measured using a spectrophotometer. The results were analyzed with a One-way analysis of variance and the Tukey post-hoc test (${\alpha}=.05$) The $L^*$ values of L, A specimens, $a^*$ values of A specimens, and $b^*$ values of Z specimens were not statistically different according to the degree of drying (p>0.05), While the $L^*$ value of Z specimen, $a^*$ value of L, Z specimen, $b^*$ values of L, A specimens were statistically different according to the degree of drying(p <0.05). In conclusion, the drying of zirconia colourants improves zirconia brightness and increases the optical properties of the enamel.

Purpose: Platelet Rich Plasma(PRP) application is increasing with sinus inlay bone graft, but there is few research with radiographic ananlysis on effect of PRP in maxillary sinus. The author investigated the amount of bony changes of maxillary sinus for dental implantation among the patients with maxillary inlay graft. Materials and Methods: With 10 patients who were treated with sinus inlay autologous bone grafting combined with PRP technique, and with 5 patients who were treated with sinus inlay grafting only without PRP, the panoramic radiographys which were taken at preoperation, immediate postoperation, 3months postoperation, and 4 months postoperation(a month after dental implantation)periods were analysed. The films had been scanned, and then proceeded throughout image analysis system. The bone density of maxillary grafted sites was compared with adjacent tooth enamel density and remeasured according to density luminosity of each film. The density changes on PRP group and bone graft only group were analysed with non-parameteric statistics method. Results: In PRP combined patients group, bone density on postoperation periods was increased totally. The remarkable enhanced change of bone density was observed on 3 months postoperation period, thereafter the increasing rate was slightly reduced. In only bone graft patients group, bone density on postoperation periods was also increased compared with preoperation period, but the bone density of 4 months postoperation period was decreased compared with 3 months postoperation period. The amount of bone density on PRP group was significantly changed according to periods in contrast to bone graft only group. Conclusion: The bone density on PRP group was remarkably increased at 3 months postoperation compared to bone graft only group and it was seemed to be associated with more new bone formation, less grafted bone resorption at bone grafted sites with PRP.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of two dentin desensitizers and Er,Cr:YSGG laser for dentinal tubule occlusion. Twenty recently extracted single-rooted human teeth were used to obtain root dentinal fragments. The crowns were cut approximately 1mm below the cementum enamel junction(CEJ). A second cut was used to remove the apex of the root. Subsequently, a longitudinal cut was made in order to obtain 2 fragments from each root sample. The cementum from the cervical portion was removed using a high-speed diamond-coated bur in order to expose the dentin. To open dentinal tubules, forty samples were treated with 50% citric acid for 2 min and then rinsed under distilled water for 1 min. These were divided into four groups of ten samples each. The first group served as a control group. In group 2, the samples were irradiated with the Er,Cr:YSGG laser(Waterlase MD, Biolase, USA). In group 3, the samples were treated with Bisblock and ONE-STEP PLUS(Bisco, USA). In group 4, the samples were treated with Gluma comfort bond & Desensitizer(Heraeus Kulzer, Germany). All the samples were examined using Scanning electron microscopy(Hitachi, S-4700, Japan) with two different magnifications(X2000, X5000). These images were assessed by one examiner who was blind to the experimental procedure, using the index of smear layer removal. The distribution of smear layer removal grades was tested using Fisher's exact test. On the order hand, in order to evaluate the occluding effect of two dentin desensitizers and Er,Cr:YSGG laser, the number of exposed dentinal tubules was counted in each group. These were evaluated using the Kruskal-Wallis test with significance predetermined $\alpha$=0.05. There were statistically significant differences between the three groups(Er,Cr:YSGG laser, Bisblock+ONE-STEP PLUS, Gluma comfort bond & Desensitizer) and control group.

Purpose: This study evaluated the radiopacity of contemporary luting cements using conventional and digital radiography. Materials and Methods: Disc specimens (N=24, n=6 per group, ø$7mm{\times}1mm$) were prepared using 4 resin-based luting cements (Duolink, Multilink N, Panavia F 2.0, and U-cem). The specimens were radiographed using films, a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor, and a photostimulable phosphor plate (PSP) with a 10-step aluminum step wedge (1 mm incremental steps) and a 1-mm-thick tooth cut. The settings were 70 kVp, 4 mA, and 30 cm, with an exposure time of 0.2 s for the films and 0.1 s for the CMOS sensor and PSP. The films were scanned using a scanner. The radiopacity of the luting cements and tooth was measured using a densitometer for the film and NIH ImageJ software for the images obtained from the CMOS sensor, PSP, and scanned films. The data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: Multilink (3.44-4.33) showed the highest radiopacity, followed by U-cem (1.81-2.88), Panavia F 2.0 (1.51-2.69), and Duolink (1.48-2.59). The $R^2$ values of the optical density of the aluminum step wedge were 0.9923 for the films, 0.9989 for the PSP, 0.9986 for the scanned films, and 0.9266 for the CMOS sensor in the linear regression models. Conclusion: The radiopacities of the luting materials were greater than those of aluminum or dentin at the same thickness. PSP is recommended as a detector for radiopacity measurements because of its accuracy and convenience.
