  • The Great Famine may have had a continued impact on the population structure of North Korea even after the crisis subsided ten years ago. However, there is a significant gap between what has been said about the country and what data indicates. This gap seems inevitable mainly because reliable data are seriously lacking and access is restricted for most scholars outside the country. Yet, it is only reasonable to question why most studies have failed to explain the causality between the Great Famine and accumulated changes in the population of North Korea. In this regard, a recent study conducted by Korean demographers (Jeon et al., 2015) have several implications on the importance of accurate and reliable data when the study involves such rare and scarce information. This paper explores the changing trends of the population structure in North Korea providing a review of recent studies on demographic issues associated with North Korea and offers suggestions on understanding the post-famine effect on the overall changes in the population of North Korea.

  • Habitat heterogeneity can enhance biological diversity by providing variation in structural diversity. This paper reviewed heterogeneous habitat serves as a population stability and superior demographic performance (e.g., high density, survivorship, reproductive rate) can be observed compared with organisms with inferior demographic performance. The idea of habitat variation has been further developed in modelling. Furthermore the size and configuration (distribution) of a patch (of a particular habitat type) become effective for the stability of population through hiding places and food resources. Species diversity is related to habitat complexity that provides structural diversity to ground -dwelling organisms. Finally coarse woody debris can enhance habitat complexity thus stabilizing population fluctuation and increasing survivorship.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the amis of two-day weekend system, the attitudes of people towards the system, and people's actions taken under the system implementation in Taiwan. Several other factors together with the implementation of Two-day Weekend System and at least three interrelated factors are the spurs for families to adjust their family life styles. the interrelated factors are changing economy, changing demography, and changing technology. The strategies available for families are as follows: 1. Keeping simple family life 2. Looking for flexible jobs other than a fixed daytime schedule. 3. Taking the advantages of information technology. 4. Working and getting together with family members at home and outside of the home.

  • Geographical location carries information such as demography, local economy, environment, and life styles, which could be the sources of cancer occurrence. Analyzing geographical location associated with cancer occurrence can be instructive to physicians, patients, and health administrators regarding resource allocation, expenditures, prophylaxis and treatments. In this paper, we explored the correspondence relationship between geographical locations and mortality rates of the cancers using correspondence analysis and illustrated the approach with the mortality rates of the top 10 cancers in the 75 counties in Arkansas from 2001 to 2005. Geographical variations with respect to the mortality rates of cancers are evaluated across Arkansas counties. Based on the contingency table, correspondence analysis model is developed and the simple indices which indicate the degree to which the regions and the cancers affect each other are calculated. Quantitative results are visualized and mapped in two-dimensional graphs.

  • The purpose of this study was designed to investigate if self-monitoring variable among various individual trait theories and demographic variable would be variables which can explain about the importance differences of consumer service level of retailing in the garment product. The survey was conducted from Feb, 6 to 16, 2002. For this survey, the 118 data were analysed with spss window 9.0 version and Cronbach's, Factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test, Frequency, mean, percentage were applied. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Consumer service was classified in attitude/confidence/expert knowledge of salesperson, product display, product information, product assortment, shopping environment, lighting setup. 2. As a result of analyzing the importance differences per consumer service dimension depending on self-monitoring levels, it was not significant differences. 3. As a result of analyzing the importance differences per consumer service dimension depending on demographic variables, it was not significant differences.

  • Although the relation of caregiving burden to well-being has been frequently examined, the effect of caregiving on marital quality has been virtually ignored. The current study explores the impact of parent care on the marriages of adult children by using a nationally representative longitudinal sample. It was hypothesized that parent care would negatively influence the marital quality of adult child caregivers, the effect of parent care would differ between women and men caregivers, and the nature of marital relationship variables would moderate or mediate the impact of care on marital quality. Overall, marital quality does not appear to suffer if caregiving load is light. However, the impact of parental caregiving on some dimensions of marital quality was conditioned by gender, gender role attitudes, and congruence between attitudes and behavior.

  • We investigated the variation in adaptation to growth for four ecotypically-differentiated population of Taraxacum officinale found naturally in temporal environmental heterogeneity. Seeds collected from the four seasons were germinated in incubators and were grown for four months in greenhouse to test genetic variation among biotypes. Biotypes, segregated by seeds collected seasonally, were the part of natural population in Mokpo, South Korea. Each biotype was different in total dry weight of seeds, biomass, and leaf area, confirming previous finding. Differences between biotypes grown under a common environment indicated a genetic basis to their distinct demographic rates. Therefore, biotypes with similar annual rates of growth and contrasting seasonal rates should persist in the population. This differential response suggests that temporal variation in environment may be responsible, in part, for the maintenance of genetic variation within populations.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine two different types of meal experiences as the experimental factors and empirically incorporates a context specific approach into the measurement of bakery attractiveness. The study used frequency analysis to examine the demography of respondents, t-test to compare the importance rating of each attribute for its contribution to the selection of a bakery in terms of each type of meal, and anova analysis to compare the satisfaction rating of each attribute for its contribution to the selection of a bakery in the context of regular meal and a eating between meal The study indicated the implications of these findings concerning marketing and development initiatives to improve the physical and perceptual attractiveness of the bakerys.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify the middle aged corresponding to their Life Styles and analyze the senior housing types and services. the specific objectives of this study are as follows : First, analyze the specific of demography. Second classify the Life Style of the middle aged. Third, analyze the housing types and services that are classified. In analyzing the collected data, the frequency, factor analysis, cronbach's a, cluster analysis(K-means), X$^2$ ANOVA conducted within the SPSS 12.0. The Life Style were segmented four group : Actively outgoing group, self-confidence familial group, self-uncertainty responsible group, unsociable negative group. This study shows that the segmentation group's preference of senior housing types and services is different by the Life Style.

  • Although the area of information security planning and management has gained an increased attention, not much discussion was available on the role and the impact of the board members towards a firm's security management and governance decisions. In this research, we draw on corporate governance and the organizational demography literature to conduct an exploratory empirical study on the association between the board structure of a firm and the possibility of information security breaches. Our results show that the board size, the average age/tenure and the heterogeneity of age could reduce the possibility of security breaches while the proportion of independent directors and the heterogeneity of tenure could increase it. Our findings shed lights on the important role played by the board when managing information security risks in organizations.
