  • An utilization of electricity usage measured data by region and time through the consumer portal system for building and large consumer are suggested. Electricity usage data by region and time can't be measured by traditional approach. A measured data from smart meters which are installed various regions can be utilized to set up a management of electricity peak demand.

Dairy wastewater treatment using microalgae for potential biodiesel application

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the biomass production and dairy wastewater treatment using Chlorella vulgaris. The results indicated that the maximum percentages of biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus removed were 85.61%, 80.62%, 29.10%, 85.47%, and 65.96%, respectively, in dairy effluent at 10 d. A maximum of 1.23 g/L dry biomass was obtained in 7 d. The biomass productivity was strongly influenced by the nutrient reduction in the dairy effluent. The biodiesel produced by the C. vulgaris in the dairy effluent was in good agreement with the American Society of Testing and Materials-D6751 and European Standards 14214 standards. Therefore, using dairy effluent for microalgal cultures could be a useful and practical strategy for an advanced, environmentally friendly treatment process.

Feasibility of Composting Combinations of Sewage Sludge, Cattle Manure, and Sawdust in a Rotary Drum Reactor

  • The aim of this paper was to study the effect of five different waste combinations (C/N 15, C/N 20, C/N 25, C/N 30, and control) of sewage sludge coupled with sawdust and cattle manure in a pilot scale rotary drum reactor, during 20 days of the composting process. Our results showed that C/N 30 possesses a higher temperature regime with higher % reduction in moisture content, total organic carbon, soluble biochemical oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand; and higher % gain in total nitrogen and phosphorus at the end of the composting period implying the total amount of biodegradable organic material is stabilized. In addition, $CO_2$ evolution and oxygen uptake rate decreased during the process, reflecting the stable behavior of the final compost. A Solvita maturity index of 8 indicated that the compost was stable and ready for usage as a soil conditioner. The results indicated that composting can be an alternate technology for the management of sewage sludge disposal.

Optimal unidirectional grid tied hybrid power system for peak demand management

  • A well designed hybrid power system (HPS) can deliver electrical energy in a cost effective way. In this paper, model for HPS consisting of photo voltaic (PV) module and wind mill as renewable energy sources (RES) and solar lead acid battery as storage device connected to unidirectional grid is developed for peak demand reduction. Life time energy cost of the system is evaluated. One year hourly site condition and load pattern are taken into account for analysing the HPS. The optimal HPS is determined for least life time energy cost subject to the constraints like state of charge of the battery bank, dump load, renewable energy (RE) generation etc. Optimal solutions are also found out individually for PV module and wind mill. These three systems are compared to find out the most feasible combination. The results show that the HPS can deliver energy in an acceptable cost with reduced peak consumption from the grid. The proposed optimization algorithm is suitable for determining optimal HPS for desired location and load with least energy cost.

  • Recently the demand of the driverless rolling stock is increasing with advancement of the stable communication technique and control technique. The automatic train operating system has advantages which takes low operating cost and is able to dispose elastically in demand. Beside it provides high safety and effectiveness because it will be able to control power, signal and communication system from Operation Control Center and the safety and effectiveness are high. The establishment of PSD, Platform Screen Door, is advanced in the goal which is passenger safety, fire protection, noise and dust reduction etc. When but, two advanced systems also have risks of operation delay and accident when two systems are not controlled smoothly. Thus, I'll introduce control method between onboard controller, door control unit in rolling stock and PSD controller to help system design.

  • 현재 수요반응(Demand Response) 프로그램은 발전설비 용량의 부족이나 높은 발전 연료비용의 상승으로 인해 다양한 나라들에서 도입되고 있는 실정이다. 그것은 실시간으로 소비자들이 그들의 소비패턴을 선택할 수 있는 프로그램이라 말할 수 있다. 다시 말하면, 수요반응이란 소비자들의 일반적인 전력소비패턴에서 전력가격이나 기타 다른 신호에 반응하여 전력 사용량을 변화시키는 것으로 정의할 수 있다. 수요반응의 효과는 전력가격의 급상승 방지, 공급 신뢰도 향상, 그로 인한 사회적인 복지향상 등 여러 가지 측면에서 생각해 볼 수 있다. 이러한 다양한 효과 가운데, 본 논문에서는 thermal comfort zone을 고려하여 수요반응 프로그램을 수행하는 동안 전력판매사업자 입장에서 최대의 이득을 얻기 위한 적정 인센티브와 부하 감축량을 결정한다.

  • Many countries concern about environmental problems. Therefore, they have made regulation for mandatory reduction of greenhouse gases. Electric Vehicles(EVs) are one of the most effective counterproposals for it. EVs are usually charging for it by using actual distribution system of the Korea Electric Power Corporation(KEPCO). However, it could cause adverse effects such as increase of the power demand and voltage variation on the distribution system. To reduce adverse effects for demand power side, in this paper, charging for EVs by using PV(Photovolatic Power Generation) connected with ESS(Energy Storage System) are modeled by using Electro Magnetic Transient Program(EMTP). And then, the simulation results are compared with EVs that are connected to the distribution system of KEPCO for using charge.

Energy Consumption Scheduling in a Smart Grid Including Renewable Energy

  • Smart grids propose new solutions for electricity consumers as a means to help them use energy in an efficient way. In this paper, we consider the demand-side management issue that exists for a group of consumers (houses) that are equipped with renewable energy (wind turbines) and storage units (battery), and we try to find the optimal scheduling for their home appliances, in order to reduce their electricity bills. Our simulation results prove the effectiveness of our approach, as they show a significant reduction in electricity costs when using renewable energy and battery storage.

  • In recent year, as the demand about low vibration and noise vehicle is increased constantly. automobile companies try to a lot of things to achieve this demand. Gear rattle vibration become an emergency problem to be cured at idling. There are two kinds method to reduce idle gear rattle vibration One is optimization of clutch damper design parameters(stiffness, hysteresis torque, preload, length of lst stage) the other is system parameters modification(inertia, drag torque, backlash, etc) But these methods are impossible to estimate influence rate of each gearpair on the idle gear rattle vibration. In this study, 14degrees of freedom nonlinear model is developed to analyze influnce rate of each gearpair on the idle gear rattle vibration and the counterplan to reduce the gear noise is suggeted through the shift system modification.

  • Recently, a more strict regulation has become effective on ground vibration and noise induced by construction activities. Consequently the demand for the most widely used method of installing precast piles, i.e. driven piles, is declining. At the same time the demand for low noise and low vibration piling method increased sharply. Currently there are several different low noise and low vibration methods of installing precast piles, mostly preboring method. However, the actual level of ground vibration and noise of these method of construction has not yet been clearly understood. In this paper, through field measurement, suggestion has been made to meet the requirements of the revised regulation.
