  • We investigate multi user joint rate scheduling and power allocation problem for a delay sensitive CDMA systems. First, we characterize the existing two user joint rate scheduling and power allocation. We then extend the problem to the case of the multi user systems. In general, there is no simple optimum solution for the multi user scheduling problem. To that end, we propose a sub optimum solution, termed 'virtual user approach'. We show the performance of the virtual user approach to verify the benefit of complexity.

  • To locate an object accurately in the wireless sensor networks, the distance measure based on time-delay plays an important role. In this paper, we propose a maximum likelihood (ML) time-delay estimation algorithm in multi-path wireless propagation channel. We get the joint probability density function after sampling the frequency domain response of the multi-path channel, which could be obtained by the vector network analyzer. Based on the ML criterion, the time-delay values of different paths are estimated. Considering the ML function is non-linear with respect to the multi-path time-delays, we first obtain the coarse values of different paths using the subspace fitting algorithm, then take them as an initial point, and finally get the ML time-delay estimation values with the pattern searching optimization method. The simulation results show that although the ML estimation variance could not reach the Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLB), its performance is superior to that of subspace fitting algorithm, and could be seen as a fine algorithm.

  • A robust input modification approach to the control of flexible joint robot is presented. In our previous study, we developed an observer based state feedback control for the suppression of residual vibration of a robot. The control was very effective in suppressing the inherent vibration of a flexible joint robot. However it did not meet high performance requirements under high speed motion and model uncertainties. As a solution of the problem, we present an input modification method with robustness against parametric uncertainties. The main idea of the proposed input modification method is to generate a modified reference position command for fast and accurate motion of the robot. Using this proposed method we can reduce the servo delay and settling time by about 60% and substantially improve the path accuracy.

  • With high bandwidth, low interference, and low power consumption, optical network-on-chip (ONoC) has emerged as a highly efficient interconnection for the future generation of multicore system on chips. In this paper, we propose a new path-setup method for ONoC to mitigate contentions, such as packets, by recycling the setup packet halfway to the destination. A new, strictly non-blocking $6{\times}6$ optical router is designed to support the new method. The simulation results show the new path-setup method increases the throughput by 52.03%, 41.94%, and 36.47% under uniform, hotspot-I, and hotspot-II traffic patterns, respectively. The end-to-end delay performance is also improved.

  • This study proposes analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using attractor analysis for fusion joint part of polyethylene piping. Quantitatively characteristics of fusion joint part is analysed features extracted from time series. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in fractal characteristics. These differences in characteristics of fusion joint part enables the evaluation of unique characteristics of fusion joint part. In quantitative fractal feature extraction, feature values of 4.291 in the case of debonding and 3.694 in the case of bonding were proposed on the basis of fractal dimensions. In quantitative quadrant feature extraction, 1,306 point in the case of bonding(one quadrant) and 1,209 point(one quadrant) in the case of debonding were proposed on the basis of fractal dimensions. Proposed attractor feature extraction can be used for integrity evaluation of polyethylene piping material which is in case of bonding or debonding.

  • Elderly women are reported to have greater risk of falls. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the possible gender differences in the reaction performance of ankle joint muscles, which have dominant role in the control of sagittal plane balance. Twenty-six elderly men and women with comparable mean age participated in this study. Reaction times to the audible beeps were measured in the tibialis anterior muscle and gastrocnemius muscle. Reaction time variables included premotor time, electromechanical delay and total reaction time. Gender difference in each reaction time was investigated by independent t-test. In both muscles, premotor time was longer in men but the electromechanical delay was longer in women (p < 0.05). Resulting total reaction time was longer in men in tibialis anterior muscle (p < 0.01) and it tended to be longer in men also in gastrocnemius muscle (p = 0.25). The results demonstrates that the overall reaction performances of elderly women is better than or comparable to those of elderly men in ankle joint muscles. This suggests that the reaction performance of ankle muscles is hardly the cause of the greater risk of falls in elderly women.

  • Adhesive bonding is one of the most promising joining methods which may substitute for conventional metallurgical joining processes, such as welding, brazing and soldering. Curing behavior and mechanical properties of adhesive joint are largely dependent on the curing agent including hardener and catalyst. In this study, effects of curing system on the curing behavior and single-lap shear strength of epoxy adhesive joint are investigated. Dihydrazide, anhydride and dicyandiamide(DICY) were chosen as hardener and imidazole and triphenylphosphine(TPP) were chosen as catalyst. In curing behavior, TPP showed the delay of the curing rate for DICY and ADH at $160^{\circ}C$, compared to imidazole catalyst due to the high curing onset/peak temperature. DICY seemed to be most beneficial in the joint strength for both steel and Al adherends, although the type of adherends affected the shear strength of epoxy adhesive joint.

  • Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) networks require dynamic flow admission control to guarantee end-to-end quality of service (QoS) for each Internet protocol (IP) traffic flow. In this paper, we propose to tackle the joint routing and admission control problem for the IP traffic flows in MPLS networks without rerouting already admitted flows. We propose two mathematical programming models for this problem. The first model includes end-to-end delay constraints and the second one, end-to-end packet loss constraints. These end-to-end QoS constraints are imposed not only for the new traffic flow, but also for all already admitted flows in the network. The objective function of both models is to minimize the end-to-end delay for the new flow. Numerical results show that considering end-to-end delay (or packet loss) constraints for all flows has a small impact on the flow blocking rate. Moreover, we reduces significantly the mean end-to-end delay (or the mean packet loss rate) and the proposed approach is able to make its decision within 250 msec.

  • This is Presents experimental results of a force tracking controller for a quarter-car suspension system. The active suspension system was decomposed into two loops. At the main loop, the desired force signal is calculate by using a standard LQ design process. The Time Delay Control(TDC) design technique is then used to design the force controller such that the desired force signal is achieved in a robust manner when actuator or other plant uncertainties are present. The ADAMS controls module was used to realize the joint simulation of ADAMS and MATLAB, of which the results showed that the TDC strategy is reasonable and feasible.

  • Green Frame is a column-beam system formed by composite precast concrete column and beam connected with steel buried in both members. During the installation of Green columns, the columns of Green Frame, covering 3 floors per each piece and beams, the eccentricity can be observed due to the construction error and the weight of beam itself. Such eccentricity may have a little influence on a single frame, yet, it can develop critical issues to the installation of subsequent beams or beams on the upper floors in the context of a building as a whole that has multiple frames. These issues lead to delay in frame installation, decrease of productivity and increase of cost, etc. Therefore, this study presents a steel-joint connection method in order to solve the issues. The steel-joint connection method exists on slope plane and reinforcing plate in steel frame buried in composite PC members. Through this method, the issues can be resolved without requiring additional equipment or manpower.
