  • Infiltration of rainfall causes railway embankment to be unstable and may result in failure. Basic relationship between the rainfall and stability of railway embankment are defined to analyze the stability of embankment by rainfall. An experimental study for defining of infiltration rate of rainfall into slope is conducted in the lab. The results of Rainfall infiltration show that rainfall infiltration is not equal to infiltration as like reservoir because rate of rainfall infiltration is controlled by slope angle. Based on these results, boundary condition of rainfall is altered and various numerical analysis are performed. The variation of shear strength, the degree of saturation and pore-water pressure for railway slope during rainfall can be predicted and the safety factor of railway slope can be expressed as the function of rainfall amount, namely rainfall index. Therefore, it is judged that this rainfall index can be a good tool for the rail-transport operation control.

  • A new design concept, called axis-slope-rotatability, is presented for the design of experiments with mixtures. This is an analogue of the Box-Hunter (1957) rotatability for second order response surface designs. By choice of design, it is possible to make the variance of the estimated slopes along the component axes constant for all axial points equidistant from the center point of the factor space. This property is called axis-slope-rotatability for mixture experiments. When the Scheffe's second degree polynomial is used, it is shown that some symmetry conditions are sufficient for axis-slope-rotatability. Several designs having this property are illustrated.

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the nutrient loss and to assess the eutrophication into small stream by intensive rains in the steeped cornfield during cultivation. The crop cultivated was a soiling com (DW5969), and the experimental plots were divided into two parts that were 10 and 18% of slope degrees. The amount of T-N and T-P loss was calculated by analysis of surface run-off water quality, and was investigated the effect of eutrophication to small stream as a part of life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology application. For the surface run-off water quality, EC and T-N values were highest in first runoff event as compared to the other events and maintained the stage state with litter variations at every hour during the runoff period except for EC in the slope 18%. However, T-P concentration has been a transient stage after runoff event of July 27. Total surface run-off ratio was not significantly different with slope degrees, but amount of T-N and T-P losses at 18% of slope were high as $5.96kg\;ha^{-1}\;and\;0.65kg\;ha^{-1}$ as relative to 10% of slope degree, respectively. Furthermore, T-N losses from run-off water in the sloped cornfield 10 and 18% were approximately 9.8 and 12.5% of the N applied as fertilizer when the fertilizer applied at recommended rates after soil test, respectively. For the eutrophication impact to the small stream, it was shown that $PO_4$ equivalence and Eco-indicator value at 18% of slope degree were greater as much $6.11kg\;ha^{-1}$ and 0.81 as compared to the slope angle 10%, respectively. Therefore, it was appeared that each effect of nutrient losses, eutrophication and Eco-indicator value was enhanced according with higher slope degree.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can automatically mix the screen and sound by tracking the change of the sound data according to the screen change so that the real sound can be implemented in the personal broadcasting service. Since the personal broadcasting service is often broadcasted lively, it should be convenient to have a real-time mixing. Through experiments, it was confirmed that the sound pressure changes in a wide range in the high frequency band related to the clarity for understanding according to the rotation angle change of the screen. Regression analysis of the sound pressure changes at 2kHz, 4kHz, and 8kHz, The attenuation change of sound pressure was observed at the slope of -1.17, the slope of -2.0, and the slope of -2.44 for each frequency. Therefore, these experiment results can be applied to the VR service. This study is expected to be useful data in the implementation of personal broadcasting service.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of vegetation on the cutting slope applied by vegetation system in the whole land. The engineering characteristics of slopes were investigated using the face mapping and physical tests. From the statistical methods, a relationship between a geologic stratum and degree of covering was independent. Therefore, the afforestation of slope was affected more by condition of vegetation as direction and opening of joints, and a topsoil state than by conventional classification of layer. It was concluded that the adjustable vegetation on the slope considering condition of geometric shape of slope, joint data and spontaneous type could make useful early afforestation.

  • KICT (Korea Institute of Construction and Technology) and KISTEC (Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation) have been carrying out inventory survey on cut slopes along national roads since 2006. Unlike precision safety check, cut slope inventory survey is a simple check about cut slope's characteristics with the naked eye to collect the data base of slope maintenance. Inventory survey is classified into general status, cut slope characteristics and inspector opinions. The inventory data are analyzed to identify dangerous slopes and decide a safety ranking. In this paper, we performed a correlation analysis using SPSS (ver.15) about the 10,461 cut slope inventory data which are collected in Kangwondo and Chungcheongdo from 2006 to 2008. We calculated the correlation coefficient between cut slope inventory data and the danger score derived from the data. And we evaluated cut slope inventory data which have the more influence on the danger degree of cut slope. According to results of correlation analysis, we found that inventory data influencing cut slope danger degree are stuck and fallen rock, orientation of discontinuity and angle of upper slope. And these data are slightly different by regionally. Later on, if inventory research is finished, we will understand regional characteristics of cut slopes.

  • This paper is results of analyzing characteristics of landslides occurred in Wonju, Gangwondo, around July, 16 in 2006, caused by heavy rainfall and antecedent precipitation by two typhoons of Ewiniar and Bilis. The main causes of landslides were antecedent precipitation during July 8 to 15, resulting in weakening grounds by increasing the degree of saturation previously, and the heavy rainfall during July 15 to 16. Most of landslides in natural slopes were transitional failures occurred along the boundary between the residual weathered soil in shallow depth and the hard mother rock. From results of conclusive analyses regarding 28 sites in Wonju region where landslides occurred, the slope length of landslide, the slope width, and the slope area were less than 50m with 71% of frequency, 20m with 79% of frequency and $300m^2$ of 64% of frequency respectively. The average value of slope angle was $35^{\circ}$. The most probable direction of slope was found to be north because of topography and advancing direction of seasonal rain front.

  • Cut slopes are collapsed in Korea every year. Cut slope collapses cause a loss of lives and assets. Many researchers make clear collapse factor of cut lope. Fresh rock weathered through reaction undergroundwater and groundwater. During weathering process, weathered minerals are created. Weathered minerals are analysed by X-ray diffraction meter. X-ray diffraction meter make possible quantity assessment of degree of weathering and indicator of potential collapse possibilities. This paper discuss possibilities of cut slope dangerous with analysis of weathered minerals of cut slope.

  • Slope stability analysis was conducted using remote sensing and Geoscientific Information System (GIS) as a part of natural hazard assessment around Chungju area. Landsat TM band 5 and 7 which contain more information about geological structure and geography are chosen and processed to analyse regional geological structure. Through image processing technique such as PCA, HFF, edge detection and enhancement, regional lineament can be mapped and identified. The lineament density map is constructed based on summed length of lineaments per unit area and the study area can be divided into 7 structural domains. Various factors of slope stability analysis such as geology, slope aspect, degree of slope, landcover, water shed as well as characterized structural domain are constructed as a database of GIS. Rating and weighting of each factor for slope stability analysis is decided by considering environmental geological characteristics of study area. Spatial analysis of regional slope stability is examined through overlaying technique of the GIS. The result of areal distribution of slope stability shows that the most unstable area is all over Jaeogae-ni, Hyangsan-ni and Mt. Daedun.
