FRP re-bar in concrete structures could be used as a substitute of steel re-bars for that cases in which aggressive environment produce high steel corrosion, or lightweight is an important design factor, or transportation cost increase significantly with the weight of the materials. But FRP fibers have only linearly elastic stress-strain behavior; whereas, steel re-bar has linear elastic behavior up to the yield point followed by large plastic deformation and strain hardening. Thus, the current FRP re-bars are not suitable concrete reinforcement where a large amount of plastic deformation prior to collapse is required. The main objectives of this study in to evaluate the tensile behavior and the fracture mode of hybrid FRP re-bar. Fracture mode of hybrid FRP re-bar is unique. The only feature common to the failure of the hybrid FRP re-bars and the composite is the random fiber fracture and multilevel fracture of sleeve fibers, and the resin laceration behavior in both the sleeve and the core areas. Also, the result of the tensile and interlaminar shear stress test results of hybrid FRP re-bar can provide its excellent tensile strength-strain and interlaminar stress-strain behavior.

Composites comprising various volume fractions of crystalline nickel and bulk amorphous (BA) were produced by means of electroless coating of nickel on BA powder of $Cu_{54}Ni_6Zr_{22}Ti_{18}$ and subsequent spark plasma sintering (SPS) of coated BA powder. The flow curves of composites at various temperatures in the supercooled liquid region were determined by the uniaxial compression test with various strain rates. During compression at $450^{\circ}C$ with $\dot{\varepsilon}=2\times10^{-3}$, the monolithic BA sample and crystalline-BA composites displayed the superplastic deformation with $\varepsilon>1.4$. At temperatures above $460^{\circ}C$, the stress-strain curve of the monolithic BA sample depicted a sharp peak stress and a fellowing stress drop due to cracking, while those of the crystalline-BA composites displayed work-hardening up to the imposed strain. FEM analysis indicated that a fairly homogeneous strain state prevailed throughout the composite, while a higher level of stress was obtained in a harder BA.
An elastoplastic model for structured clays, which is formulated based on the fact that the difference in mechanical behavior of structured and reconstituted clays is caused by the change of fabric in the post-yield deformation range, is present in this paper. This model is developed from an elastoplastic model for overconsolidated reconstituted clays, by considering that the variation in the yield surface of structured clays is similar to that of overconsolidated reconstituted clays. However, in order to describe the mechanical behavior of structured clays with precision, the model takes the bonding and parabolic strength envelope into consideration. Compared with the Cam-clay model, only two new parameters are required in the model for structured clays, which can be determined from isotropic compression and triaxial shear tests at different confining pressures. The comparison of model predictions and results of drained and undrained triaxial shear tests on four different marine clays shows that the model can capture reasonable well the strength and deformation characteristics of structured clays, including negative and positive dilatancy, strain-hardening and softening during shearing.
Metal sealing is used to connecting the parts between valves and fuel pipes for a FCEV which utilizes hydrogen gas of 700 bar. Instead of general carbon steel, stainless steel is the primary material used to manufacture fuel pipes due to hydrogen embrittlement. The shape of deformation between metals is an important factor on the air-tightness of the metal to metal contact. Since the stainless steel pipe is hardened using the plastic forming during the tip shaping stage, this work hardening could have an effect on the deformed shape and characteristics of contact surfaces in fastening of pipes. In this paper, the deformation history of the pipe model was considered in order to analyze the hydrogen-tightness on the metal sealing part. The contact distance and the forward displacement for fastening were compared using experimental results and the simulation results. The simulation of the effect of material change on the fitting body demonstrated that the hardness or the strength of the formed tip of the pipe was designed to a proper valued level since the characteristics of the contact surface was exhibited better when the strength of the pipe was lower than that of the fitting body.

Elastoplastic analysis of an annular disc, being fully constrained on its outer rim and interacting with a purely elastic inclusion perfectly bonded with its inner rim, is conducted to study its plastic deformation and residual stress under thermal cycles. The system is termed the composite disc. Quasi-static plane-strain deformation is assumed, and the von Mises yield criterion with or without the Ludwik hardening rule is adopted in our finite element calculations. Effects of multiple material properties simultaneously being temperature dependent on the plastic behavior of the composite disc are considered. Residual stress is analyzed from a complete loading and unloading cycle. Results are discussed for various inclusion radii. It is found that when temperature dependent material properties are considered, the maximum residual stress may be greater than the maximum stress inside the disc at the temperature-loaded state due to lower temperature having larger yield stress. Temperature independent material properties overestimate stresses inside materials, as well as the elastic irreversible temperature and plastic collapse temperature.
A wide range of grain size was achieved in a Fe-Cr-Mn austenitic stainless steel (STS) by cold rolling and reversion annealing. The tensile characteristics of the STS were analyzed in terms of the dependence of strain induced martensitic (SIM) transformation on the grain size. In the ultrafine grain regime, the steel showed a high yield strength over 1 GPa, a discontinuous yielding, and a prolonged yield point elongation followed by considerable strain hardening. By increasing the grain size, the discontinuous yielding diminished and the yield point elongation decreased. The microstructural examination revealed that these tensile characteristics are closely related to the suppression of SIM transformation with decreasing the grain size. Especially, the prolonged yield point elongation of the ultrafine grained STS was found to be associated with development of unidirectional ε martensite bands. Based on the microstructural examination of the deformed microstructures, the rationalization of the grain size dependence of SIM transformation was suggested.

This paper deals with the fracture simulation of UHPFRC girder with the interface type model. Based on the existing numerical simulation of quasi-brittle fracture in normal strength concrete, constitutive modeling for UHPFRC I-girder has been improved by including a tensile hardening at the failure surface. The finite element formulation is based on a triangular unit, constructed from constant strain triangles, with nodes along its sides and neither at the vertex nor the center of the unit. Fracture is simulated through a hardening/softening fracture constitutive law in tension, a softening fracture constitutive law in shear as well as in compression at the boundary nodes, with the material within the triangular unit remaining linear elastic. LCP is used to formulate the path-dependent hardening-softening behavior in non-holonomic rate form and a mathematical programming algorithm is employed to solve the LCP. The piece-wise linear inelastic yielding-failure/failure surface is modeled with two compressive caps, two Mohr-Coulomb failure surfaces, a tensile yielding surface and a tensile failure surface. The comparison between test results and numerical results indicates this method effectively simulates the deformation and failure of specimen.
Geotextile tubes are widely used to prevent erosion in coastal areas and to replace the backfill for shore slopes in the reclamation of land using dredged soil. In this study, The triaxial confining pressures were chosen as 10kPa, 50kPa, or 100kPa for the specimens reinforced with geotextile considering the condition in the site. The strain behavior under various compressive stresses was then identified. At strains 0% to 7%, the stress-strain behavior was the same due to the effect of initial strain hardening, in which the force was exerted according to the relaxation of the geotextile regardless of the confining pressure (≤100kPa). At strains of 7% or more, the specimen with the small confining pressure had smaller deformation under load, which increases the tensile resistance provided by the reinforcing geotextile. Brittle fracture was then observed due to strain softening and the deviator stress abruptly decreased. This is different from the phenomenon in which the shear strength increases as the confining pressure increases in general triaxial compression tests. In the geoxtile-confined tests, geotextiles are primarily subjected to tensile displacement. Thereafter, the modulus of elasticity increases rapidly, which exhibits the elastic behavior of the geotextile.

The Rapid Hardening Composite Mat (RHCM) is a product that improves the initial strength development speed of conventional Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCM). It offers the advantage of quickly securing sufficient strength in railway slopes with insufficient formation level, and provides benefits such as preventing slope erosion and inhibiting vegetation growth. In this study, an analysis of the practical applicability of RHCM in railway settings was conducted through experimentation. The on-site applicability was assessed by categorizing it into fire resistance, durability, and stability, and conducting combustibility test, ground contact pressure test, and daily displacement analyses. In the case of South Korea, where a significant portion of the territory is composed of forested areas, the prevention of slope fires is imperative. To analyze the fire resistance of RHCM, combustibility tests were conducted as an essential measure. Durability was assessed through ground contact pressure tests to analyze the deformation and potential damage of RHCM caused by the inevitable use of small to medium-sized equipment on the construction surface. Furthermore, daily displacement analysis was conducted to evaluate the structural stability by comparing and analyzing the displacement and behavior occurring during the application of RHCM with railway slope maintenance criteria. As a result of the experiments, the RHCM was analyzed to meet the criteria for heat release rate and gas toxicity. Furthermore, the ground contact pressure was observed to be consistently above 50 kPa during the curing period of 4 to 24 hours under all conditions. Additionally, the daily displacement analyzed through field site experiments ranged from -1.7 mm to 1.01 mm, confirming compliance with the criteria.
In order to investigate the effect of tempring treatment on the mechanical properties of ausformed martensite in Fe-30%Ni-0.35%C alloy, the hardness, yield strength and elongation were examined by tensile test. 1. The strength of deformed austenite in Fe-30%Ni-0.35%C alloy was increased due to the work hardening induced from the dislocation density increased during deformation. The strength of ausformed martensite was increased because of defects inherited from deformed austenite by martensitic transformation. 2. The ductility of ausformed martensite was shown a nearly constant values independent of deformation degrees because of the interaction of multiple factors such as increased retained austenite, formation of void and decrement of twin in ausformed martensite. 3. The strength of ausformed martensite by tempering treatment was shown a little decrement up to $340^{\circ}C$, especially showed remarkable softening resistance in higher deformation degrees. 4. Virgin martensite and ausformed martensite were shown a maximum yield strength by clustering in tempering at $100^{\circ}C$ and above $100^{\circ}C$, yield strength was very small decreased due to the decrement of solute carbon by the destruction of clustering. 5. The decomposition of retained austenite was not shown up to $450^{\circ}C$ in ausformed martensite with tempering treatment, and the matrix was rapidly softening because of the decomposition of martensite and the formation of reversed austenite with tempering above $400^{\circ}C$.
