In this paper, the existing formulas of the step-by-step method were generalized for effective estimation of responses of complicated composite sections due to long-term deformation of concrete. The initial transformed section properties of the composite section were derived from material and section properties of concrete section and sections which confine the longterm deformation of concrete. The transformed section properties at each step were derived from the effective modulus of elasticity considered the creep coefficient variation. Improved formulas of the step-by-step method for generalized responses were derived by introducing 5 generalized parameters. The formulas can be more simplified by applying constant increment of creep coefficient at each step. The constant increment of creep coefficient at each step can also reduce computing time and make equal computing error of each step. The generalized responses for axial elastic strain of concrete section were most sensitive to the area rate of concrete section, and the ratio of the second moment of the confining section area was more sensitive than that of the concrete section. Those for elastic curvature of concrete section were most sensitive to the ratio of the second moment of concrete section area.
Computational models for analyzing the in-reactor behavior of metallic fuel pins under transient conditions in liquid-metal reactors are developed and implemented in the TRAMAC (TRAnsient thermo-Mechanical Analysis Code) for a metal fuel rod under transient operation conditions. Not only the basic models for a fuel rod performance but also some sub-models used for transient condition are installed in TRAMAC. Among the models, a fission gas release model, which takes the multi-bubble size distribution into account to characterize the lenticular bubble shape and the saturation condition on the grain boundary and the cladding deformation model have been developed based mainly on the existing models in the MAC-SIS code. Finally, cladding strains are calculated from the amount of thermal creep, irradiation creep, and irradiation swelling. The cladding strain model in TRAMAC predicts well the absolute magnitudes and gen-eral trends of their predictions compared with those of experimental data. TRAMAC results for the FH-1,2,6 pins are more conservative than experimental data and relatively reasonable than those of FPIN2 code. From the calculation results of TRAMAC, it is apparent that the code is capable of predicting fission gas release, and cladding deformation for LMR metal fuel finder transient operation conditions. The results show that in general, the predictions of TRAMAC agree well with the available irradiation data.
This paper proposes a method to predict the deflection of prestressed concrete (PC) beams with corrugated steel web (CSW) under constant load concerning time-dependent variation in concrete material. Over time, the top and bottom concrete slabs subjected to asymmetric compression experience shrinkage and creep deformations. Here, the classical Euler-Bernoulli beam theory assumption that the plane sections remain plane is not valid due to shear deformation of CSW. Therefore, this study presents a method based on the first-order shear deformation to find the long-term deflection of the composite beams under bending by considering time effects. Two experimental prestressed beams of this type were monitored under their self-weight over time, and the theoretical results were compared with those data. Additionally, 3D analytical models of the experimental beams were used according to material properties, and the results were compared with two previous cases. There was good consistency between the analytical and numerical results with low error, which increased by wave radius. It is concluded that the proposed method could reliably be used for design purposes.

This paper introduces a numerical analysis model capable of evaluating CFT (Concrete-Filled Tube) columns across all time stages, incorporating creep behavior analysis and inelastic analysis to account for time-dependent behavior. The proposed model is compared with experimental results, revealing that the numerical model presented in this paper demonstrates more accurate trends than existing design criteria. Following verification, a numerical analysis is conducted for each slenderness ratio, determining the ultimate load capacity and examining the short-term and long-term sustained load behavior of the overall CFT column members.

This paper presents the finite element deformation and failure simulation of a typical Korean high-power reactor vessel under a severe accident characterized by large break loss of coolant (LBLOCA) with in-vessel retention of molten corium through external reactor vessel cooling (IVR-ERVC) conditions. Temperature distributions calculated using Modular Accident Analysis Program Version 5 (MAAP5) as thermal boundary conditions were used, and ABAQUS thermal and structural analyses were performed. After full ablation, the temperature of the inner surface in the thinnest section remained high (920 ℃), but the stress remained relatively low (less than 6 MPa). At the outer surface, the stress was as high as 250 MPa; however, the resulting plastic strain was small owing to the low temperature of 200 ℃. Variations in stress, inelastic strain, and temperature with time in the thinnest section suggest that the plastic and creep strains are saturated owing to stress relaxation, resulting in low cumulative damage. Thus, the lower head of the vessel can maintain its structural integrity under LBLOCA with IVR-ERVC conditions. The sensitivity analysis of internal pressure indicates the occurrence of failure in the thinnest section at an internal pressure >9.6 MPa via local necking followed by failure due to high stresses.

When we construct the earth structures such as embankments, on soft ground which are consisted of thick marine silty clay, the foundations deform due to consolidation and creep. For the stabilization of the earth structures constructed on soft foundations, we usually uses the mattress and they play an important role in increasing an ultimate bearing capacity by the dispersion of load of embankment. The purpose of this paper was to predict rationally a long term deformation of earth structures and to contribute to embankment design and maintenance. We determined a rheological model of marine clay from experimental data, and developed a computer program using the chosen model and found out the long term behavior of embankment. The results of this paper are as follows: 1. The developed program can analyze simultaneously consolidation and creep. 2. From the results of creep test, the rheological model of marine silty clay can be represented by the Vyalov model. 3. The displacement of embankment on reinforced foundation were smaller than those of the unreinforced foundation in showing the effects of geotextiles on foundation deformations.

This study is experimentally investigated for the characteristics of compression and tensile of lightweight air-trapped soils with uniform quality. Previously, EPS blocks are often used as lightweight embankment, but many problems such as the level difference and cracks caused by plastic(creep) deformation occurred in the EPS blocks. So, a new material development is urgent. By means of alternatives, lightweight air-mixed soil using in-situ soils has been developed and applied to fields. In comparison with EPS block, lightweight air-mixed soil have less creep deformation in long-time, but the strength characteristics of them are different depending on soils where they are obtained. Therefore, the quality management of them is very difficult. In this study, therefore, characteristics of lightweight air-trapped soil samples are investigated. To do this, the lightweight air-trapped soils are prepared using a manufactured sand with uniform quality. To found out the compression and tensile characteristics of lightweight air-tapped soils, unconfined compression test and splitting tensile test are conducted on the specimens prepared with different unit weight, cement-sand ratio and air-pore.

Experimental study was performed to evaluate the long-term behavior of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) strips under sustained loads including prestressing force in strengthening RC members with post-tensioned CFRP strips. Two types of CFRP strip such as unidirectional CFRP strip and hybrid CFRP strip which is composed of carbon fiber and steel plate were considered. Also two types of loading scheme were included in this study. Direct sustained loading test had been carried out to estimate the creep deformation and relaxation of CFRP strips including slip deformation at both mechanical anchorages for over 700 days. Also, flexural sustained loading test had been conducted to estimate the initial prestress losses on clamping the CFRP strips at jacking anchorages for over 90 days. From the sustained loading tests, it was observed that stress losses of unidirectional CFRP strips due to the creep deformation and relaxation of material itself and slip deformation at mechanical anchorage were ignorable. On the other hand, significant stress losses caused by the yielding of steel embedded in CFRP strips were found in case of hybrid CFRP strips due to the initial jacking force over steel yielding stress. Also, initial prestress losses during setting of CFRP strips on mechanical anchorage were about 10% of intial jacking force, which must be considered in the design.

Plastic and creep deformations of a solder joint on thermal cycle play an important role in the reliability of optical telecommunication components. Solder joint strain is increased with the thermal cycle time and it causes mis-alignments and power loss in the optical component. Furthermore, the component can be failed since the deformation exceed the limitation of the fatigue life. We applied the finite element analysis method to solve the problem of the solder joint reliability on thermal cycle. Plastic and creep deformations are calculated by the finite element method. And, the fatigue lire is predicted by using creep-fatigue prediction models with calculated strains. The temperature conditon of the analysis was referred from the Telcordia reliability schedule (-40 to 75). Also, the three ramp renditions, 1/min, 10/min and 50/min, and dwelling time were considered to analyze the differences of results.
