In this paper, the load-deflection analysis of the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strengthened Reinforced Concrete (RC) slab using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) is investigated. Six reinforced concrete slabs having dimension $1800{\times}400{\times}120mm$ with similar steel bar of 2T10 and strengthened using different length and width of CFRP were tested and compared with similar samples without CFRP. The experimental load-deflection results were normalized and then uploaded in MATLAB software. Loading, CFRP length and width were as neurons in input layer and mid-span deflection was as neuron in output layer. The network was generated using feed-forward network and a internal nonlinear condition space model to memorize the input data while training process. From 122 load-deflection data, 111 data utilized for network generation and 11 data for the network testing. The results of model on the testing stage showed that the generated RNN predicted the load-deflection analysis of the slabs in acceptable technique with a correlation of determination of 0.99. The ratio between predicted deflection by RNN and experimental output was in the range of 0.99 to 1.11.
In this paper, optical deflection of laser scattering has been investigated based on Rayleigh criterion for crystalline silicon wafer in solar cell. A laser scattering mechanism is newly designed using light scattering properties in silicon wafer. Intensity distributions of laser scattering are different, depending on the incident angle of laser computed from Rayleigh criterion. In case of the incident angle satisfied with the criterion, they are asymmetric. Also, their specular reflection angle is shifted to unpredicted ones. These phenomena are in accordance with previous theories of laser scattering. The optical deflection of laser scattering is experimentally identified with the designed laser scattering mechanism. Its mathematical model is presented from the geometric relationship of laser scattering. It is shown that the optical deflection of laser scattering agree with the presented model, exclusive of grazing angles which is satisfied with Rayleigh criterion.
In order to automate straightening process of deflected beams an adaptive three-point bending controller is studies which estimates and controls springback of beams under three-point bending. An analytical load-deflection model for three-point bending of beams with circular cross sections is derived nondimensionally. In spite of variation of material and process parameters this model can be applied to springback estimation by measuring real-time values of reactive load and deflection of the beam. A hydraulic punch stroke controller is designed to take real-time controls of the permanent deflection of the beam. The validity of the proposed system is verified through experiments.
This paper presents a prediction of tool deflection and resulting machining error fur sculptured surface productions in the ball-end milling process. Due to the different materials and the dimensions of the tool holder and cutter, a cantilever hem model with three uniform sections is proposed fur the tool deflection model. The ability of this model has been verified by a machining experiment. In this study, cutting force and machining error are investigated. This paper provides the prediction of machining error for sculptured surface to improve machining quality for industrial application.
This paper presents the influence coefficient method to predict the deflection of bump foil precisely in the sub-structure of AFB(air foil bearing). Heshmat has introduced the simple compliance model to calculate the deflection of bump foil. But this approach can not consider the deflection of bump foil at the edge of AFB, so elasto-hydrodynamic model is insufficient to analyze in case that the eccentricity ratio is greater than 1. Peng has used the average pressure and film thickness, but this approach is not also a realistic model. Influence coefficients of a bump is calculated by finite element method, and introduced in bump deflection equations of the performance analysis of air foil bearing. The effects of the influence coefficient on the bearing performance is discussed in detail for appropriate foil design.
In general, the laminated rubber bearing (LRB), a composite structure laminated with the elastic rubber and steel plates, has a complex hysteretic nonlinear characteristics in relationships between the restoring force and shear deflection. The representative nonlinear characteristics of LRB include the change of hysteresis loop with cyclic shear deflections and the hardening effects at large shear deflection regions. Changes of the hysteresis loop of LRB with cyclic shear deflections affect the horizontal stiffness and the damping characteristics. The hardening behavior of LRB in large shear deflection region results in an increased horizontal stiffness and therefore, has a great impacton the seismic responses. In this paper, the seismic response analysis is carried out using the modified hysteretic bi-linear model of LRB, which takes into account the hysteresis loop change and the hardening behavior with cyclic shear deflection. The results on seismic responses are compared with those obtained using the widely used hysteretic hi-linear model. The new model is found to reveal the greater amount of peak acceleration response.
This paper presents a method to predict tool deflection induced by the thermal distribution and the cutting force using FEM in milling operation. The thermal distribution of cutting tool was predicted using FEM after measuring the temperature of the end of tool and of the tool holder. The thermal deflection of cutting tool was predicted using FEM as well. The tool deflection induced by the cutting force was analyzed with the solid model of cutting tool. An end mill tool caused most of tool deflection comparing to tool holder. Most of thermal deflection came from Z-direction and most of tool deflection induced by the cutting force came from X and Y direction. Precision cutting will be accomplished when tool locations are generated considering the thermal deflection of cutting tool and the tool deflection induced by the cutting force in CAD/CAM.
In this study, semi-rigid light-weight framed structures analysis model (SERIFS) was developed by advancing the LEIFS model. This model enables us to analyze simultaneous effects of large deflection and semi-rigid connection by computing unbalanced load occurring in the process of repeated loading through equalization of bending moments and torsion. This model is also able to handle the effect of the semi-rigid connection and large deflection by modifying the elastic stiffness matrix using moment-rotation behavior of connection. Moment-rotation behavior of the semi-rigid connection was adopted from the experimental results of load-vertical displacement of frame element In conclusion, this model achieves to analyze the nonlinear and large deflection behavior on the semi-rigid and light-weight steel frame connection.
The objective of this study was to present creep and the effects of mechano-sorptive deflection of drift pin moment resisting joint between LVL members under changing relative humidity (RH) conditions. The LVL members with steel gusset were jointed by a square pattern of eight injected drift pin. Three diameter drift pins were used to test specimens (6mm, 10mm, and 16mm). The creep test was conducted under two constant loading conditions : one at 30 kgf(840 kgf-cm) and the other at 60 kgf(1680 kgf-cm). The experiment was conducted in an open shed outside. (1)The total rotation creep model of moment resisting joing can be expressed as the sum of the creep of controlled environment (3-parameter model), dimensional change and mechano-sorptive deflection resulting from the variable environment. (2)Mechanosorptive rotation creep is recoverable as moisture content increases during adsorption. Least squares method for linear regression analysis was performed using mechano-sorptive rotation creep as the dependent variable and moisture content as the independent variable. The slope of low moment specimens are compared with those of high moment. This means that low moment condition is more easily affected by changes in humidity than high moment conditions. (3)Although creep deflection is higher for small diameter drift pin than for large diameter drift pin, the shape of creep deflection curves for all specimens is similar.

The main objective of this work is presenting a mathematical model for the concrete slab with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) layer under the impact load. Impacts are assumed to occur normally over the top slab and the interaction between the impactor and the structure is simulated using a new equivalent three-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) spring-mass-damper (SMD) model. The structure is assumed viscoelastic based on Kelvin-Voigt model. Based on the sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT), energy method and Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. Applying DQM, the dynamic deflection and contact force of the structure is calculated numerically so that the effects of mass, velocity and height of impactor, boundary conditions, FRP layer, structural damping and geometrical parameters of structure are shown on the dynamic deflection and contact force of system. Results show that considering structural damping leads to lower dynamic deflection and contact force. In addition, increasing the impact velocity of impactor yields to increases in the maximum contact force and deflection while the contact duration is decreased. The result shows that the contact force and the central deflection of the structure decreases and the contact time decreases with assuming FRP layer.
