Ductility is very important parameter in seismic design of RC members such as beams where it allows RC beams to dissipate the seismic energy. In this field, the curvature ductility has taken a large part of interest compared to the deflection ductility. For this reason, the present paper aims to propose a general formula for predicting the deflection ductility factor of RC beams under mid-span load. Firstly, the moment area theorem is used to develop a model in order to calculate the yield and the ultimate deflections; then this model is validated by using some results extracted from previous researches. Secondly, a general formula of deflection ductility factor is written based on the developed deflection expressions. The new formula is depended on curvature ductility factor, beam length, and plastic hinge length. To facilitate the use of this formula, a parametric study on the curvature ductility factor is conducted in order to write it in simple manner without the need for curvature calculations. Therefore, the deflection ductility factor can be directly calculated based on beam length, plastic hinge length, concrete strength, reinforcement ratios, and yield strength of steel reinforcement. Finally, the new formula of deflection ductility factor is compared with the model previously developed based on the moment area theorem. The results show the good performance of the new formula.

A new measuring method for tool deflection has been developed when sculptured surface is processed in ball-end milling. Since the vibration due to cutting forces has low frequencies, an electromagnetic sensor is used for measuring the exact vibration displacement. The amplitude and direction of vibration displacement during the cutting process is presented as orbital plot. In this study, it assumes that the vibration displacement is proportional to the length of cutting chip. Therefore, tool deflection is calculated by summing up the vibration displacement of unit chip length for engaged chip length. In addition, computer programs has been developed to predict the deflection of tools when machining sculptured surface. This developed program predicts the tool deflection per block of NC data, so that it can easily identify the parts which have the possibility of machining errors.

This paper investigates the effect of reinforced plate on the deflection of the rectangular plate, when the rectangular plate is reinforced with rectangular rigid body at the centroid of the plate. For two boundary conditions such as simple supported and clamped boundary This study derives deflection formula of reinforced plates with three kinds of the aspect ratio of a rectangular plate with respect to the elastic modulus ratio and the length ratio of rigid body using the least square method. The results are as follows: 1. As the elastic modulus ratio r$_{e}$$\geq$ 1000, the maximum deflection with respect to the length ratio r$_{1}$ converges into constant value. 2. Deflection formula with respect to the length ratio r$_{1}$ is derived as the third order polynomial.l.
An extensive investigation is performed to analyze the behavior of tieback anchored wall. Finite element method is used and several case histories are collected to investigate the relationship of wall deflection, anchor unbonded length, and anchor load. The finite element method can calculate wall deflection with changing the anchor unbonded length and the anchor load. Wall deflection normalized by excavation height can be related to anchor location so that it may produce a zone chart. It is found that a different chart showing the relation of the wall deflection, the anchor load, and anchor unbonded length can be constructed. It is necessary to collect more case histories considering soil conditions and to perform FE analysis extensively with changing bonded length to extend the capability of this relation chart into practice.
In this paper, the deflection and buckling analyses of porous nano-composite piezoelectric plate reinforced by carbon nanotube (CNT) are studied. The equations of equilibrium using energy method are derived from principle of minimum total potential energy. In the research, the non-local strain gradient theory is employed to consider size dependent effect for porous nanocomposite piezoelectric plate. The effects of material length scale parameter, Eringen's nonlocal parameter, porosity coefficient and aspect ratio on the deflection and critical buckling load are investigated. The results indicate that the effect of porosity coefficient on the increase of the deflection and critical buckling load is greatly higher than the other parameters effect, and size effect including nonlocal parameter and the material length scale parameter have a lower effect on the deflection increase with respect to the porosity coefficient, respectively and vice versa for critical buckling load. Porous nanocomposites are used in various engineering fields such as aerospace, medical industries and water refinery.

This paper investigates the characteristics of deflection for circular plate that has same supporting boundary condition along the width direction of plate according to the length change of supporting end. For two boundary conditions such as simple supporting and clamping on both ends, this study derives maximum deflection formula of circular plate using differential equation of elastic curve, assuming that a circular plate is a beam with different widths along the longitudinal direction. The deflection formula of circular plate is verified by carrying out finite element analysis with regard to the ratio of length of supporting end to radius of circular plate.

For the design of the shortened ED(Expansion Deflection) nozzle, a numerical study of ED nozzle was performed according to the length reduction methods. The first method is to reduce the extension length of the ED nozzle with 80% bell nozzle length by 10%, 20% and 30%. The second method is to shorten the extension length by increasing the nozzle throat angle. Due to the increase in the curvature of the contour as the length shortened, the decrease in the nozzle exit velocity between the ED nozzle with 80% bell nozzle length and the ED nozzle in the first method was reduced, and the thrust become similar. The ED nozzle of the second method increased the thrust by increasing the nozzle exit velocity compared to the ED nozzle with 80% bell nozzle length.

In this paper, the load-deflection analysis of the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strengthened Reinforced Concrete (RC) slab using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) is investigated. Six reinforced concrete slabs having dimension $1800{\times}400{\times}120mm$ with similar steel bar of 2T10 and strengthened using different length and width of CFRP were tested and compared with similar samples without CFRP. The experimental load-deflection results were normalized and then uploaded in MATLAB software. Loading, CFRP length and width were as neurons in input layer and mid-span deflection was as neuron in output layer. The network was generated using feed-forward network and a internal nonlinear condition space model to memorize the input data while training process. From 122 load-deflection data, 111 data utilized for network generation and 11 data for the network testing. The results of model on the testing stage showed that the generated RNN predicted the load-deflection analysis of the slabs in acceptable technique with a correlation of determination of 0.99. The ratio between predicted deflection by RNN and experimental output was in the range of 0.99 to 1.11.
The influence of cracks on the elastic deflection and ultimate bearing capacity of eccentric thin-walled columns with both ends pinned was studied in this paper. First, a method was developed and applied to determine the elastic deflection of the eccentric thin-walled columns containing some model-I cracks. A trigonometric series solution of the elastic deflection equation was obtained by the Rayleigh-Ritz energy method. Compared with the solution presented in Okamura (1981), this solution meets the needs of compatibility of deformation and is useful for thin-walled columns. Second, a two-criteria approach to determine the stability factor ${\varphi}$ has been suggested and its analytical formula has been derived. Finally, as an example, box columns with a center through-wall crack were analyzed and calculated. The effects of cracks on both the maximum deflection and the stability coefficient ${\varphi}$ for various crack lengths or eccentricities were illustrated and discussed. The analytical and numerical results of tests on the columns show that the deflection increment caused by the cracks increases with increased crack length or eccentricity, and the critical transition crack length from yielding failure to fracture failure ${\xi}_c$ is found to decrease with an increase of the slenderness ratio or eccentricity.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of welding conditions on the shape of arc of FCAW using high speed camera system. Length and deflection of arc were evaluated from images of arc which were transformed by threshold processing. Based on the experimental results, a regression model for the length of arc was established. A major factor affecting deflection of arc was the length of arc.
