A design study of gas turbine engine simulation duct was conducted to investigate the operating characteristics and control gain tunning of the Altitude Engine Test Facility(AETF). The simulation duct design involved testing variable spike nozzle and ISO standard choking nozzle to verify the measurements such as mass flow rate and thrust. The simulation duct air flow area was designed to satisfy Ma 0.4 at the aerodynamic interface plane(AIP) at engine design condition. The test conditions for verifying the AETF controls and measurement devices were deduced from 1D analysis and CFD calculation results. The spike-cone driving part was designed to withstand the applied aero-load, and satisfy the axial traversing speed of 10 mm/s at whole operation envelops.

Gas turbine engine simulation in terms of transient, steady state performance and operational characteristics is complex work at the various engineering functions of aero engine manufacturers. Especially, efficiency of control system design and development in terms of cost, development period and technical relevance implies controlling diverse simulation and identification activities. The previous engine simulation has been accomplished within a limited analysis area such as fan, compressor, combustor, turbine, controller, etc. and this has resulted in improper engine performance and control characteristics because of limited interaction between analysis areas. In this paper, we propose a new simulation methodology for gas turbine engine performance analysis as well as its digital controller to solve difficulties as mentioned above. The novel method has particularities of (ⅰ) resulting in the integrated control simulation using almost every component/module analysis, (ⅱ) providing automated math model generation process of engine itself, various engine subsystems and control compensators/regulators, (ⅲ) presenting total sophisticated output results and easy understandable graphic display for a final user. We call this simulation system GT3GS (Gas Turbine 3D Graphic Simulator). GT3GS was built on both software and hardware technology for total simulation capable of high calculation flexibility as well as interface with real engine controller. All components in the simulator were implemented using COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) modules. In addition, described here includes GT3GS main features and future works for better gas turbine engine simulation.

Modeling and Simulation techniques are useful to construct executable battlefields and forces on computers, and have been utilized to analyze effectiveness of weapon systems in the computerized war environment. However, most weapon simulations so far have exhibited low reusability and extensibility, since they have been developed for specific simulation objectives with different structures and simulation engines. In this paper, we identify requirements for defense modeling and simulation activities and propose a simulation engine to support the identified requirements. We define the software architecture of the proposed engine, in a way to efficiently provide usability, component-based reusability, interoperability, and reuse-based development.

An integrated simulation engine provides tools, services, and standards to support various activities in the entire M&S from modeling and simulation to analysis of the simulation results. Many countries have developed integrated simulation engines to efficiently assist complex M&S activities. However, we do not have domestic simulation engines especially designed for defense M&S, therefore, developing M&S softwares still remains as a hard task with high cost and tine. OpenSIM(Open Simulation engine for Interoperable Models) is an integrated simulation engine and provides tools, services and standard interfaces for weapons analysis. OpenSIM's services are comprised of classes, member functions and data attributes which are commonly used in modeling, simulating and analyzing weapons systems. In this paper, we introduce OpenSIM's services in C++ APIs and illustrate them through an ASM example(Air to Surface Missile).
In mission planning of UAV applications, especially for the missions requiring height transitions, it is required to generate reference flight trajectories considering the performances of the engine installed in the UAV. Even though the vertical line following guidance based height transition trajectory generation method has been developed to build reference height transition trajectories easily, it is not adequate for considering engine performances effectively since many engine characteristics and performances have conventionally been described in the V-H(speed-height) plane which is not the very space where the UAVs are actually flying. In this paper, we derive the trajectories in V-H plane for the vertical line following flights. And based on the results, a new algorithm to design the reference height transition trajectories for UAV applicaions. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is very effective and easily applicable.
The major objective of this research is to propose a design architecture for autonomous defense systems for supporting highly intelligent behavior by combining decision, perception, and action components. Systems with such high levels of autonomy are critical for advanced battlefield missions. By integrating a plenty of advanced modeling concepts such as system entity structure, endomorphic modeling, engine-based modeling, and hierarchical encapsulation & abstraction principle, we have proposed four layered design methodology for autonomous defense systems that can support an intelligent behavior under the complicated and unstable warfare. Proposed methodology has been successfully applied to a design of autonomous tank systems capable of supporting the autonomous planning, sensing, control, and diagnosis.

In this study, performance analysis modeling of two spool mixed flow type turbofan engine according to steady-state and transient is performed. The target engine is selected as F100-PW-229 from Pratt & Whitney, and main engine components including fan, high pressure compressors, combustion, high pressure turbines, low pressure turbines, mixer, convergent-divergent nozzle are modeled. The cooling effect of turbine through secondary flow path are considered in engine simulation model. We develop in-house Matlab/Simulink-based engine performance analysis program capable of analyzing internal engine state and compare it with GASTURB which is generally used as a commercial engine analysis program.
It is important to maintain on operational availability of aircraft during wartime. The KF-16 fighter, the backbone of the ROKAF (Republic Of Korea Air Force), has a single engine. Therefore, the engine has a critical influence on operational availability. The purpose of this study is to estimate optimal levels of spare part inventories concerning both engines and modules. That is provided by linear programming methods utilizing a developed meta-model. For drawing out the meta-model, we develop a simulation model which can consider wartime demands. In the previous study, $2^k$ factorial design method is used to check the influence of each independent variable. That method requires relatively many scenarios because every extreme value combination of independent variables should be checked. However, this study adopts NOLH (Nearly Orthogonal Latin Hypercube) as an experimental design. By adopting NOLH, this study increases not only efficiency but also accuracy. That is proven by comparing the validity of the developed meta-model on both experimental designs. This study also utilizes the OptQuest simulation tool in ARENA to derive the optimal level of spare stocks. By comparing the result of OptQuest to that of the developed meta-model, the validity of this study is secured.
This paper describes the development of a gas turbine engine simulator in detail. The simulator presented in this paper has a mathematical engine model based on a target gas turbine engine performance data and is developed for generating a gas turbine engine sensor signals between the hardwares and softwares of a gas turbine engine control system using Data Acquisition systems(DAS) and 1553B communication, a aeronautic standard communication specification. In addition, this paper proves the excellent performance of this simulator by showing the results of a gas turbine engine field test and simulation.

Recently, a network defense simulator becomes essential in studying cyber incidents because the cyber terror become more and more interesting. The network defense simulator is a tool to estimate damages and an effectiveness of a defense mechanism by modeling network intrusions and defense mechanisms. Using this tool, users can find efficient ways of preventing a cyber terror and recovering from the damage. Previous simulators start the simulation after entire scenario has made and been loaded to simulation engine. However, in this way it can't model human judgement and behavior, and it can't simulate the real cyber terror very well. In this paper, we have added a dynamic simulation component to our previous network security simulator. This component improved accurate modeling of network intrusions and defense behaviors. We have also proposed new modified architecture of the simulation system. Finally we have verified correct simulation results from stammer worn simulation.
