  • The dynamic photoelasticity with the aid of Cranz-Shardin type high speed camera system is utilized to record the dynamically propagating behavior of the interface crack. This paper investigates the effects of the stiffness of interface defect(exist along the path of the crack propagation) on the dynamic interface crack propagation behavior by comparing the experimental isochromatic fringes to the theoretical stress fields.

  • A 15-year-old girl underwent successful surgical correction of double-outlet right ventricle [S.D.L.] subaortic ventricular septal defect, patent foramen ovale, and pulmonary hypoplasia with valvular stenosis. The operation consisted of an internal baffling connecting the left ventricle to the aorta through the ventricular septal defect. The pulmonary stenosis was corrected with the method of connection the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery bifurcation using the Hancock valve[18mm] contained conduit. This rare type of DORV seemed to be suitable for corrective surgery, and the patient`s condition is very good until present time (post operative 7 months).

  • The study consisted of all patients undergoing surgical repair of isolated secundum type atrial septal defect in patients ages 35 years or older for the period from October 1986 to October 1991. ASD was closed with direct suture in all patients. Response to surgery was excellent. Two patients who had atrial fibrillation was taken low-dose warfarin therapy to prevent stroke. All patients survived operation, and improved by at least one New York Heart Association functional classification. An old age was not a contraindication to surgery.

  • Regarding the application of diagnistic technology using PD signal to power apparatus, it is necessary to discriminate the type of defect as well as to determine whether the PD occurs or not. In this research, PD characteristics of multi-defects insulating system were presented, the PD signals were detected from three kinds of electrode systems, IEC(b), needle-plane and CIGRE method II. To make multi-defect systems artificially, we combined three electrode systems and applied same test voltage simultaneously.

  • The electrical conductivity of polycrystalline $Gd_2O_3$ has been measured over the temperature range of 650 to 100$0^{\circ}C$ under the oxygen pressure range of $10^{-6}$ to 102 torr. The oxygen pressure dependence of electrical conductivity, $\sigma$ PO211/n is characterized by n value of about 5.3. The defect structure and the type of the oxide are controlled by triply ionized metal vacancies and holes.

  • Because of recent advances in cardiac surgery and diagnostic techniques, left ventricular-right atrial communication has been reported with increasing frequency. Recently we experienced 2 cases of left ventricular-right atrial communication, which were corrected surgically. Preoperative diagnosis was incorrect In both cases as ventricular septal defect. The type of defect was supravalvular in case 1 and case 2. Both cases were successfully closed with the aid of extracorporeal circulation and discharged with good results.

  • Coincidence Doppler broadening and positron lifetime methods in positron annihilation spectroscopy has been used to analyze defect structures in metal, semiconductor and polycrystal, respectively. The S parameter and the lifetime (${\tau}$) value show that the defects were strongly related with vacancies. A positive relationship existed between the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and the positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS). According to the SEM images and PAS results, measurements of the defects with PAS indicate that it was more affected by the defect than the purity.

  • Recent case reports of junctional neural tube defect (JNTD) which is a peculiar type of spinal anomaly showing the functional disconnection of the primary and secondary neural tubes has risen interest in the process of junctional neurulation (the connection between the two neural tubes) during development. This article summarizes the clinical features of the JNTD and reviews the literature on the basic research on junctional neurulation.

  • This paper proposes an image-processing algorithm for inspecting double-cut defects in the motor shaft manufacturing process. The algorithm consists of extracting the outline using the brightness of the image, obtaining a binarized boundary graph using the extracted outline, and determining the defects from the graph. Defects in which two cut surfaces are separated are considered type 1 defects, and those in which two cut surfaces are connected are defined as type 2 defects. In an actual manufacturing process, 112 good samples and 44 defective samples (34 type 1 defects and 10 type 2 defects) were collected and used to verify the algorithm. The samples were judged with 100% accuracy for both type 1 and type 2 defects. The algorithm will be used in the field after securing reliability for various samples.
