  • Software defect severity is very important in projects with limited historical data or new projects. But general software defect prediction is very difficult to collect the label information of the training set and cross-project defect prediction must have a lot of data. In this paper, an unclassified data set with defect severity is clustered according to the distribution ratio. And defect severity-based prediction model is proposed by way of labeling. Proposed model is applied CLAMI in JM1, PC4 with the least ambiguity of defect severity-based NASA dataset. And it is evaluated the value of ACC compared to original data. In this study experiment result, proposed model is improved JM1 0.15 (15%), PC4 0.12(12%) than existing defect severity-based prediction models.

  • Defect severity that is a measure of the impact caused by the defect plays an important role in software quality activities because not all software defects are equal. Earlier studies have concentrated on defining defect severity levels, but there have almost never been trials of measuring module severity. In this paper, first, we define a defect severity metric in the form of an exponential function using the characteristics that defect severity values increase much faster than severity levels. Then we define a new metrics set for software module severity using the number of defects in a module and their defect severity metric values. In order to show the applicability of the proposed metrics, we performed an analytical validation using Weyuker's properties and experimental validation using NASA open data sets. The results show that ms is very useful for measuring the module severity and msd can be used to compare different systems in terms of module severity.

  • Software defect prediction is an important factor in efficient project management and success. The severity of the defect usually determines the degree to which the project is affected. However, existing studies focus only on the presence or absence of a defect and not the severity of defect. In this study, we proposed an ensemble model using FCM based on defect severity. The severity of the defect of NASA data set's PC4 was reclassified. To select the input column that affected the severity of the defect, we extracted the important defect factor of the data set using Random Forest (RF). We evaluated the performance of the model by changing the parameters in the 10-fold cross-validation. The evaluation results were as follows. First, defect severities were reclassified from 58, 40, 80 to 30, 20, 128. Second, BRANCH_COUNT was an important input column for the degree of severity in terms of accuracy and node impurities. Third, smaller tree number led to more variables for good performance.

  • Software dimension reduction identifies the commonality of elements and extracts important feature elements. So it reduces complexity by simplify and solves multi-collinearity problems. And it reduces redundancy by performing redundancy and noise detection. In this study, we proposed defect severity-based dimension reduction model. Proposed model is applied defect severity-based NASA dataset. And it is verified the number of dimensions in the column that affect the severity of the defect. Then it is compares and analyzes the dimensions of the data before and after reduction. In this study experiment result, the number of dimensions of PC4's dataset is 2 to 3. It was possible to reduce the dimension.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear time series analysis technique for evaluating machine defect severity, based on the Recurrence Plot (RP) entropy. The RP entropy is calculated from the probability distribution of the diagonal line length in the recurrence plot, which graphically depicts a system's dynamics and provides a global picture of the autocorrelation in a time series over all available time-scales. Results of experimental studies conducted on a spindle-bearing test bed have demonstrated that, as the working condition of the bearing deteriorates due to the initiation and/or progression of structural damages, the frequency information contained in the vibration signal becomes increasingly complex, leading to the increase of the RP entropy. As a result, RP entropy can serve as an effective indicator for defect severity assessment of rolling bearings.

  • In order to improve software quality, it is necessary to efficiently and effectively remove software defects in source codes. In the development field, defects are removed according to removal ratio or severity of defects. There are several studies on the removal of defects based on software quality attributes, and several other studies have been done to improve the software quality using classification of the severity of defects, when working on projects. These studies have thus far been insufficient in terms of identifying if there exists relationships between defects or whether any type of defect is more important than others. Therefore, in this study, we collected various types of software defects, standards organization, companies, and researchers. We modeled the defects types using an ANP model, and developed the weighted severities of the defects types, with respect to the general application software, using the ANP model. When general application software is developed, we will be able to use the weight for each severity of defect type, and we expect to be able to remove defects efficiently and effectively.

  • The aim of this study was to set a defect classification framework and evaluate the defect risks in apartment buildings For this, approximately 15,056 defect items for 133 apartment buildings were examined. As a result of the analysis, the major defect of the RC work was cracks, which were found mainly in public locations. Moreover, the RC work was found to exhibit a high defect risk of water problem and surface appearance, which are highly connected with cracks. Second, the finish work has a high defect risk because it is composed of various work types, and there are many kinds of materials and construction parts involved. Third, the major defects of the waterproof work were incorrect installation and missing tasks, which have high defect risks in the garage. This is because defects that require rework occur mainly in the underground garage. Based on these results, this study proposed countermeasures for defect risk management to be considered in the construction, handover, post-handover, and occupancy phases. These have been set in detail based on the three zones: low frequency high severity (LFHS), low frequency low severity (LFLS), and high frequency low severity (HFLS).

  • In order to study the development of partial discharge (PD) under typical protrusion defects in gas-insulated switchgear, we applied step voltages on the defect and obtained the ${\varphi}-u$ and ${\varphi}-n$ spectrograms of ultra-high frequency (UHF) PD signals in various PD stages. Furthermore, we extracted seven kinds of features to characterize the degree of deterioration of insulation and analyzed their values, variation trends, and change rates. These characteristics were inconsistent with the development of PD. Hence, the differences of these features could describe the severity of PD. In addition, these characteristics could provide integrated characteristics regarding PD development and improve the reliability of PD severity assessment because these characteristics were extracted from different angles. To explain the variation laws of these seven kinds of parameters, we analyzed the relevant physical mechanism by considering the microphysical process of PD formation and development as well as the distortion effect generated by the space charges on the initial field. The relevant physical mechanism effectively allocated PD severity among these features for assessment, and the effectiveness and reliability of using these features to assess PD severity were proved by testing a large number of PD samples.

  • The aim of this paper is to develop a novel method to determine the severity of a damage in a thin plate. This paper presents a novel fault detection and diagnosis approach employing a new electromagnetic acoustic transducer, called EMAT, together with a complex signal processing method. The method consists in the recognition of a fault that exists within the structure, the fault location, i.e. the identification of the geometric position of damage, and the determining the significance of the damage, which indicates the importance or severity of the defect. The main scientific novelties presented in this paper is: to develop of a new type of electromagnetic acoustic transducer; to incorporate wavelet transforms for signal representation enhancements; to investigate multi-parametric analysis for noise identification and defect classification; to study attenuation curves properties for defect localization improvement; flaw sizing and location algorithm development.

  • In the present work, investigations by high frequency resonance technique for diagnosis of defect frequencies of linear motion unit are reported. Raw vibration signature of the moving parts at different speeds of operation has been demodulated. Envelope detected spectrum is analyzed to evaluate various defect frequencies and their energy levels. Experimentally evaluated frequencies are compared with theoretically determined defect frequencies. These frequency values and their energy levels are used to monitor intrinsic condition of linear motion unit as well as to establish severity of existing/developed defects on the LM guide and inside the LM block. Relative comparisons of linear motion units of the same type are made at various operating speeds under identical conditions of operation on the basis of identified defect frequencies and severity of defects.
