The main goal of periodontal therapy is the regeneration of periodontal tissue which has been lost due to destructive periodontal diseases. Although conventional forms of periodontal therapy show sound clinical results, the healing results in long junctional epithelium. There have been numerous materials and surgical techniques developed for new attachment and bone regeneration. Bone grafts can be catagorized into: autografts, allografts, xenografts and bone substitutes. Synthetic bone substitute materials include hydroxyapatite, tricalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, and Plaster of Paris. Calcium sulfate has found its use in dental practice for the last 30 years. Recent animal studies suggest that periodontal regeneration in 3 wall intrabony defect may be enhanced by the presence of calcium sulfate. And it is well known that 2 wall & 1 wall defect have less osteogenic potential, So we need to study the effect of calcium sulfate in 1 wall intrabony defect in dogs. The present study evaluates the effects of calcium sulfate on the epithelial migration, alveolar bone regeneration and cementum formation in intrabony defects of dogs. Four millimeter-deep one-wall intrabony defects were surgically created in the mesial aspect of anterior teeth and mesial & distal aspects of premolars. The test group received calcium sulfate grafts with a flap procedure. The control underwent flap procedure only. Histologic analysis following 8 weeks of healing revealed the following results: 1. The lengths of junctional epithelium were: 2.52mm in the control, and 1.89mm in the test group. There was no statistical significance between the two groups. 2. Alveolar bone formation were: 0.61mm in the control, and 1.88mm in the test group. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). 3. Cementum formations were: l.lmm in the control, and 2.46mm in the test group. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). 4. The length of CT adhesion were: O.97mm in the control, and 0.17mm in the test group. There was no statistically significant differences between the two groups These results suggest that the use of calcium sulfate in intrabony defects has little effect on junctional epithelium migration, but has significant effects on new bone and new cementum formations.

The statistical approach to quality control aims at alerting its user to any variations in the properties of a manufactured product. Motorola developed and pursued a quality management program called six sigma. The goal of six sigma programs is to improve customer satisfaction through reducing and eliminating defects. six sigma uses several statistical measure to characterize defect levels and process capabilities. The upper and lower specification limits are $\pm6\sigma$(sigma) from nominal, and the process mean is centered at nominal. only 0.002PPM are outside specification limits. Cp=2. this is the design target in a six sigma program. This article presents an important tool available for quality control of a production process at the occurrence of defects in manufactured products at view low levels to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing productivity and to satisfy customer through the reduction of defect rates. To understand the consequences of the level of quality on competitive position, a more technical perspective is needed.

A mobile robot system utilizing NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) method is designed and fabricated f3r automatic integrity evaluation of large sized industrial reservoirs and pipelines. The developed mobile robot can crawl over the outer surface of the industrial facilities even though the shape of the structures is various and unsymmetric. The robot detects defects such as pinholes, cracks and thickness reduction at the wall of the facilities using EMAT (Electro-Magnetic Acoustic Transducer). Image processing technology for weld line detection at the surface of the target and host programs including defect detecting algorithms are also developed. Automation of defect detection for these kinds of large facilities using mobile robots is helpful to prevent significant troubles of the structures without danger of human beings under harmful environment.

In developing an automated surface inspect algorithm, we have designed a hierarchical classifier using neural network. The defects which exist on the surface of cold mill strip have a scattering or singular distribution. We have considered three major problems, that is preprocessing, feature extraction and defect classification. In preprocessing, Top-hit transform, adaptive thresholding, thinning and noise rejection are used Especially, Top-hit transform using local minimax operation diminishes the effect of bad lighting. In feature extraction, geometric, moment, co-occurrence matrix, and histogram ratio features are calculated. The histogram ratio feature is taken from the gray-level image. For defect classification, we suggest a hierarchical structure of which nodes are multilayer neural network classifiers. The proposed algorithm reduced error rate by comparing to one-stage structure.
Foundry techniquews for large steel casting depends on the skills of foundrymen considerably. Especially, the problem of reducing casring surface defects is difficult to clear numerically. Statistical analysis by using wuantification theory for hot tear and sand inclusion, and multiple regression analysis for dimensional defects have been shown to be examples of solving this difficulty. Many causes of surface defects can be evaluated by these analyses. These evaluations serve as the base data of defect reduction and contribute to the constant improvement of casting quality and quality enhancement activity. The system to perform quality enhancement activity was developed and it proved very useful for transfering foundry techniques and skills from the old to young generations.
SiC-polycrystalline fiber (Tyranno SA, Ube Industries, Ltd.) shows very high heat-resistance and excellent mechanical properties up to very high temperatures. However, further increase in the strength is required. Up to now, we have already clarified the relationship between the strength and the defect-size of the SiC-polycrystalline fiber. The defects are formed during the conversion process from the raw material (amorphous Si-Al-C-O fiber) into SiC-polycrystalline fiber. In this conversion process, a degradation of the Si-Al-C-O fiber and a subsequent sintering of the degraded fiber proceed as well, accompanied by a release of CO gas and compositional changes, to obtain the dense SiC-polycrystalline fiber. Since these changes proceed in each filament, the strict control should be needed to minimize residual defects on the surface and in the inside of each filament for achieving the higher strength. In this paper, the controlling factors of the fiber strength and the fine structure will appear.

A die-casting junction method is usually used to manufacture the tub of an IH(induction heating) jar. If there is a very small air bubble in the junction area, the thermal conductivity is deteriorated and local overheat occurs. Such problem brings serious inferiority of the IH jar. In this paper, we propose a new method to detect such defect with simply measured thermal data. Thermal distribution of preheated tubs is obtained by scanning with infrared thermal sensors and analyzed with the statistic pattern recognition method. By defining the characteristic feature as the temperature difference between sensors and using ellipsoid function as decision boundary, a supervised learning method of genetic algorithm is proposed to obtain the required parpameters. After applying the proposed method to experiment, we have proved that the rate of recognition is high even for a small number of data set.

This research developed chemical flow control system(CFCS) essential for spinner equipment in nano semiconductor manufacturing process under the 100nm to prevent complex process defect due to missing spread after chemical injection. The devices developed in this research, which can be swiftly replaced in case abnormal state element changes or wafer manufacturing defect occurs, are anticipated to improve module yield as well as real-time monitoring on the state element. In addition, as a result of mounting H/W and S/W system to control detailed operation sequence in production line and executing performance check and verification, we can be exactly detected in five abnomal process type.

Although the main purpose of periodontal treatment to regenerate is the complete regeneration of periodontal tissue due to periodontal disease, most of the treatment cannot meet such purpose because healing by long epithelial junction. Therefore, diverse materials of resorbable and non-resorbable have been used to regenerate the periodontal tissue. Due to high risk of exposure and necessity of secondary surgical procedure when using non-resorbable membrane, guided tissue regeneration using the resorbable membrane has gain popularity, recently. However, present resorbable membrane has the disadvantage of not having sufficient time to regenerate date to the difference of resorption rate according to surgical site. Meanwhile, other than the structure stability and facile manipulation, acellular dermal matrix has been reported to be a possible scaffold for cellular proliferation due to rapid revascularization and favorable physical properties for cellular attachment and proliferation. The purpose of this study is to estimate the influence of acellular dermal matrix on periodontal ligament, cementum and alveolar bone when acellular dermal matrix is implanted to 1-wall alveolar bone defect. 4 dogs of 12 to 16 month old irrelevant to sex , which below 15Kg of body weight, has been used in this study. ADM has been used for the material of guided tissue regeneration. The 3rd premolar of the lower jaw was extracted bilaterally and awaited for self-healing. subsequently buccal and lingual flap was elevated to form one wall intrabony defect with the depth and width of 4mm on the distal surface of 2nd premolar and the mesial surface of 4th premolar. After the removal of periodontal ligament by root planing. notch was formed on the basal position. Following the root surface treatment, while the control group had the flap sutured without any treatment on surgically induced intrabony defect. Following the root surface treatment, the flap of intrabony defect was sutured with the ADM inserted while the control group sutured without any insertion. The histologic specimen was observed after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment. The control group was partially regenerated by periodontal ligament, new cementum and new alveolar bone. the level of regeneration is not reached on the previous formed notch. but, experimental group was fully regenerated by functionally oriented periodontal ligament fiber. new cementum and new alveolar bone. In conclusion, we think that ADM seems to be used by scaffold for periodontal ligament cells and the matrix is expected to use on guided tissue regeneration.
Introduction : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility of the acellular dermal matrix (ADM) as a barrier membrane for bone regeneration, and to evaluate the osteogenic effect of ADM as a carrier system for rhBMP-2 in the rat calvarial defect model. Materials and Methods: An 8-mm, calvarial, critical-size osteotomy defect was created in each of 60 male Spraque-Dawley rats(weight $250{\sim}300g$). Three groups of 20 animals, each received either rhBMP-2(0.025mg/ml) in an ADM carrier, ADM only, or negative surgical control. And each group was divided into 2- and 8-weeks healing intervals. The groups were evaluated by histologic and histomorphometric parameters(10 animals/group/healing intervals). Data were expressed as $means{\pm}standard$ deviations($m{\pm}SD$). Comparisons between experimental and control groups were made using two-way ANOVA and post hoc t-test. Comparisons between 2 weeks and 8 weeks were made using paired t-test. The level of statistical difference was defined as P< 0.05. Results : The ADM group and rhBMP-2/ADM group results in enhanced local bone formation in the rat calvarial defect at both 2 and 8 weeks. The amount of defect closure and new bone formation were significantly greater in the rhBMP-2/ADM group relative to ADM group(P<0.05). At 8 weeks, the majority of ADM in the defect was contracted, and integrated with surrounding host tissues. In addition, host cell infiltration and neovascularization of the ADM in the absence of an inflammatory response were observed, and the newly formed bone around ADM showed a continuous remodeling and consolidation. Conclusion : The results of the present study indicated that ADM may be used as a barrier membrane for bone regeneration and that may be employed as a delivery system for BMPs.
