  • The existing aiming inspection use foreign-made aiming inspection equipment. However, the quantity is insufficient and the difficult to maintain. So it takes a lot of time to inspect the target. This system can reduces the time of aiming inspection and be maintained and distributed smoothly because it is a domestic product. In this paper, we develop a system that can detect targets and monitor shooting results through a target detection deep learning model. The system is capable of real-time detection of targets and has significantly increased the identification rate through several preprocessing of distant targets. In addition, a graphical user interface is configured to facilitate user camera manipulation and storage and management of training result data. Therefore the system can replace the currently used aiming inspection equipment and non-fire training.

  • Gas Combustion Unit (GCU) onboard liquefied natural gas carriers handles boil-off to stabilize tank pressure. There are many factors for LNG cargo operators to take into consideration to determine whether to use GCU or not. Gas consumption of main engine and re-liquefied gas through the Partial Re-Liquefaction System (PRS) are good examples of these factors. Human gas operators have decided the operation so far. In this paper, some deep learning neural network models were developed to provide human gas operators with a decision support system. The models consider various factors specially into GCU operation. A deep learning model with Sigmoid activation functions in input layer and hidden layers made the best performance among eight different deep learning models.

  • The deep ocean engineering basin (DOEB) of the Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) is equipped with an extreme-environment reproduction facility that can analyze the motion characteristics of offshore structures and ships. In recent years, there have been requirements for a wide range of six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) motion measurements for performing maneuvering tests and free-running tests of target objects (offshore structures or ships). This study introduces the process of developing a wide-area motion measurement technology by incorporating the auto-tracking technology of the towing carriage system to overcome the existing 6-DOF motion measurement limitation. To realize a wide range of motion measurements, the automatic tracking control system of the towing carriage in the DOEB was designed as a speed control method. To verify the control performance, the characteristics of the towing carriage according to the variation in control gain were analyzed. Finally, a wide range of motions was tested using a model test object (a remotely operated vehicle (ROV)), and the wide-area motion measurement technology was implemented using an automatic tracking control system for a towing carriage.

  • Nitrous oxide, one of the six greenhouse gases from Kyoto protocol, is known to be emitted in biological nitrification and denitrification reactions at wastewater treatment plant. In this study, EQPS which is a computer program that can simulate nitrous oxide gas emission amount at wastewater treatment plants is used. The MLE process which treats wastewater from combined sewer is studied. Operational variables which are MLR, water temperature at reactor and primary clarifier by-pass percentage are changed to define the condition which produces the least amount of nitrous oxide gas. 200 % of MLR, 20 ℃ of water temperature at bioreactor and 15 % of primary clarifier by-pass percentage are shown the least nitrous oxide emission factor. Also, it is found that the deep aeration tank produces less amount of nitrous oxide gas since less air is required to meet oxygen demand in this type of aeration tank.

  • When deep excavation adjacent to an existing structure is performed, it is very important to minimize damage on the structure through the prediction of ground movement. In this paper, finite element analysis was performed to predict the ground movement, based on the data from site investigation and laboratory tests, when deep excavation close to a buried water tank was carried out in soft clay ground. The movement and stabilities of the soil-cement wall(SCW) and the adjacent structure were checked using the results of the analysis and the field measurement. The comparison between the measured and the predicted ground movements showed the significance of the excavation procedure and lowering of water level in the analytical model. In the future, it is needed to improve the prediction method for better estimation of the ground movement.

  • The wave-pattern analysis has been one of important research tools in the towing tank, and applied for hull form design. The longitudinal-cut method of Newman and Sharma is adopted in KRIS deep towing tank. Instrumentations and data acquisition systems are developed for that. Local effects and truncation effects are estimated by using calculated wave patterns of simple source distributions. Wigley model of 2m is used to check the accuracy of the whole system. Cut positions and truncation points are changed to investigate characteristics of the wave-pattern analysis. Coefficients of wave-pattern resistance are low-estimated in comparison with those of Maruo and Ikehata. The general quality of the system is very good, but some more efforts to increase the accuracy are required. Two full-form models(one basic form, the other with bulbous bow) are tested to show high application-possibilities of the wave-pattern analysis for the hull form design.

  • The ship hull construction materials of fishing boat has changed in order that wooden, steel, and fiber glass reinforced plastic(FRP). The fishing boat made from FRP has increased every year because that materials has proved excellent of the characteries for fishing boats construction members. Recently, FRP tend towards evasion for the pollution of air enviroment. Therefore. the materials of fishing boat construction must be exchanged by another one. Aluminium alloys must be recommended for fishing boats construction mateials because that is light weight and corrosion resisting in the sea water. Regulation of the standard of ship hull construction for aluminium alloys fishing boats did not enact laws in the interior now. Therefore, this regulation was studied by the following items. that is Rudder, Bottom construction, Side hull plate construction, Deck plate construction, piller. Water tight bulkhead, Deep tank, Fish tank, Stern construction, Superstructure, Deck house construction, Hatch, Engine room opening, Hatch opening, Bulwark, Welding and Rivet etc. A study on the regulation will be contributed to enact laws for fishing boat construction of aluminium alloys.

  • An experiment, in the cases that satisfies deep water condition, has been performed to observe the strongly nonlinear sloshing flow in a rectangular tank. A variety of parametric study on oscillating frequency and amplitude was conducted and we found that two types of wave motions, sloshing wave and Faraday wave, could be persisting simultaneously even in horizontal sloshing problem. Moreover, it is observed both of symmetric and skewed symmetric Faraday wave exist. A comprehensive explanation is given to the generation mechanism of those waves and how to interact among them.

  • The water-rock interaction and anthropogenic contamination affecting to geochemical composition of shallow and deep groundwaters were investigated in the agricultural area of Myunggok-ri, Kongju. The shallow groundwater is classified into the chemical types of $Ca-HCO_3$ and $Ca-Cl(SO_4)$ and shows weak acid having an average pH 6.2. Deep groundwater shows the uncontaminated composition of the chemical types of $Na-HCO_3$ and Na $(Ca)-HCO_3$ with pH of 8.4~8.8. The grouping approach of chemical data of waters shows the distinguished trend between water composition influenced anthrophogenic input and water composition mainly determined by natural process such as water-rock interaction. The main anthropogenic inputs affecting chemical composition of shallow groundwater are the contaminants such as $K^+$, $NO_3{^-}$, $Cl^-$ having average values of 4.4 mg/l, 22 mg/l, 13.7 mg/l, respectively. The contaminants were probably derived from fertilizer, sweage, septic tank, and stable, etc. The hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions indicate that five deep groundwaters were recharged from different altitudes, and that shallow and deep groundwaters were originated from meteoric water. Tritium contents of waters suggest that deep groundwater was recharged before or just after 1950s, and that shallow groundwater is much younger than deep groundwater. The results of this study may serve as a basic data for the future study of shallow groundwater as a drinking water in agricultural area, in Korea.

  • A simple laboratory device and methodology are developed for deep understanding of the western boundary current (WBC). The apparatus consists of a rotating (count-clockwise) rectangular tank with a sloping bottom in order to simulate the beta effect, the variation of the Coriolis parameter with latitude. We also used a clockwise rotating disk at the surface water to mimic the wind stress forcing in mid-latitude oceans. Four experiments were carried out using some combination of a bottom type and a rotation of the tank. Experiment with the beta effect clearly demonstrated the WBClike flow as well as the Sverdrup interior. However, the water in a tank gave rise to an inertial motion under the influence of a constant Coriolis force alone. We also discussed a stiffening of the rotating fluid on the basis of the Taylor-Proudman effect. We believe that the apparatus and methods developed in this study help to understand the WBC due to the beta effect.
