  • In deep learning classification tasks, most models frequently assume that all labels are available for the training datasets. As such strategies to learn new concepts from unlabeled datasets are scarce. In fingerprint classification tasks, most of the fingerprint datasets are labelled using the subject/individual and fingerprint datasets labelled with finger type classes are scarce. In this paper, authors have developed approaches of classifying fingerprint images using the majorly known fingerprint classes. Our study provides a flexible method to learn new classes of fingerprints. Our classifier model combines both the clustering technique and use of deep learning to cluster and hence label the fingerprint images into appropriate classes. The K means clustering strategy explores the label uncertainty and high-density regions from unlabeled data to be clustered. Using similarity index, five clusters are created. Deep learning is then used to train a model using a publicly known fingerprint dataset with known finger class types. A prediction technique is then employed to predict the classes of the clusters from the trained model. Our proposed model is better and has less computational costs in learning new classes and hence significantly saving on labelling costs of fingerprint images.

  • In this paper, we propose hand-gesture signal recognition based on EPS(Electronic Potential Sensor) using Deep learning model. Extracted signals which from Electronic field based sensor, EPS have much of the noise, so it must remove in pre-processing. After the noise are removed with filter using frequency feature, the signals are reconstructed with dimensional transformation to overcome limit which have just one-dimension feature with voltage value for using convolution operation. Then, the reconstructed signal data is finally classified and recognized using multiple learning layers model based on deep learning. Since the statistical model based on probability is sensitive to initial parameters, the result can change after training in modeling phase. Deep learning model can overcome this problem because of several layers in training phase. In experiment, we used two different deep learning structures, Convolutional neural networks and Recurrent Neural Network and compared with statistical model algorithm with four kinds of gestures. The recognition result of method using convolutional neural network is better than other algorithms in EPS gesture signal recognition.

  • In this paper, we propose a lightweight deep learning architecture tailored for efficient text detection in fashion design sketch images. Given the increasing prominence of Digital Transformation in the fashion industry, there is a growing emphasis on harnessing digital tools for creating fashion design sketches. As digitization becomes more pervasive in the fashion design process, the initial stages of text detection and recognition take on pivotal roles. In this study, a lightweight network was designed by building upon existing text detection deep learning models, taking into consideration the unique characteristics of apparel design drawings. Additionally, a separately collected dataset of apparel design drawings was added to train the deep learning model. Experimental results underscore the superior performance of our proposed deep learning model, outperforming existing text detection models by approximately 20% when applied to fashion design sketch images. As a result, this paper is expected to contribute to the Digital Transformation in the field of clothing design by means of research on optimizing deep learning models and detecting specialized text information.

  • This study proposes a method for forest vegetation monitoring using high-resolution aerial imagery captured by unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) and deep learning technology. The research site was selected in the forested area of Mountain Dogo, Asan City, Chungcheongnam-do, and the target species for monitoring included Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica, and Quercus acutissima. To classify vegetation species at the pixel level in UAV imagery based on characteristics such as leaf shape, size, and color, the study employed the semantic segmentation method using the prominent U-net deep learning model. The research results indicated that it was possible to visually distinguish Pinus densiflora Siebold & Zucc, Quercus mongolica Fisch. ex Ledeb, and Quercus acutissima Carruth in 135 aerial images captured by UAV. Out of these, 104 images were used as training data for the deep learning model, while 31 images were used for inference. The optimization of the deep learning model resulted in an overall average pixel accuracy of 92.60, with mIoU at 0.80 and FIoU at 0.82, demonstrating the successful construction of a reliable deep learning model. This study is significant as a pilot case for the application of UAV and deep learning to monitor and manage representative species among climate-vulnerable vegetation, including Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica, and Quercus acutissima. It is expected that in the future, UAV and deep learning models can be applied to a variety of vegetation species to better address forest management.

  • A society will lose a lot of something in this field when the forest fire broke out. If a forest fire can be detected in advance, damage caused by the spread of forest fires can be prevented early. So, we studied how to detect forest fires using CCTV currently installed. In this paper, we present a deep learning-based model through efficient image data construction for monitoring forest fire smoke, which is unstructured data, based on the deep learning model YOLOv5. Through this study, we conducted a study to accurately detect forest fire smoke, one of the amorphous objects of various forms, in YOLOv5. In this paper, we introduce a method of self-learning by producing insufficient data on its own to increase accuracy for unstructured object recognition. The method presented in this paper constructs a dataset with a fixed labelling position for images containing objects that can be extracted from the original image, through the original image and a model that learned from it. In addition, by training the deep learning model, the performance(mAP) was improved, and the errors occurred by detecting objects other than the learning object were reduced, compared to the model in which only the original image was learned.

  • Electricity has become a factor that dramatically affects the market economy. The day-ahead system marginal price determines electricity prices, and system marginal price forecasting is critical in maintaining energy management systems. There have been several studies using mathematics and machine learning models to forecast the system marginal price, but few studies have been conducted to develop, compare, and analyze various machine learning and deep learning models based on a data-driven framework. Therefore, in this study, different machine learning algorithms (i.e., autoregressive-based models such as the autoregressive integrated moving average model) and deep learning networks (i.e., recurrent neural network-based models such as the long short-term memory and gated recurrent unit model) are considered and integrated evaluation metrics including a forecasting test and information criteria are proposed to discern the optimal forecasting model. A case study of South Korea using long-term time-series system marginal price data from 2016 to 2021 was applied to the developed framework. The results of the study indicate that the autoregressive integrated moving average model (R-squared score: 0.97) and the gated recurrent unit model (R-squared score: 0.94) are appropriate for system marginal price forecasting. This study is expected to contribute significantly to energy management systems and the suggested framework can be explicitly applied for renewable energy networks.

  • Phase unwrapping is an essential procedure for interferometric synthetic aperture radar techniques. Accordingly, a lot of phase unwrapping methods have been developed. Deep-learning-based unwrapping methods have recently been proposed. In this paper, we reviewed state-of-the-art deep-learning-based unwrapping approaches in terms of 1) the approaches to predicting unwrapped phases, 2) deep learning model structures for phase unwrapping, and 3) training data generation. The research trend of the approaches to predicting unwrapped phases was introduced by categorizing wrap count segmentation, phase jump classification, phase regression, and deep-learning-assisted method. We introduced the case studies of deep learning model structure for phase unwrapping, and model structure optimization to relate the overall phase information. In addition, we summarized the research trend of the training data generation approaches in the views of phase gradient and noise in the main. And the future direction in deep-learning-based phase unwrapping was presented. It is expected that this paper is used as guideline for exploring future direction of deep-learning-based phase unwrapping research in Korea.

  • The present fast-moving era brings a serious stress issue that affects elders and youngsters. Everyone has undergone stress factors at least once in their lifetime. Stress is more among youngsters as they are new to the working environment. whereas the stress factors for elders affect the individual and overall performance in an organization. Electroencephalogram (EEG) based stress level classification is one of the widely used methodologies for stress detection. However, the signal processing methods evolved so far have limitations as most of the stress classification models compute the stress level in a predefined environment to detect individual stress factors. Specifically, machine learning based stress classification models requires additional algorithm for feature extraction which increases the computation cost. Also due to the limited feature learning characteristics of machine learning algorithms, the classification performance reduces and inaccurate sometimes. It is evident from numerous research works that deep learning models outperforms machine learning techniques. Thus, to classify all the emotions based on stress level in this research work a hybrid deep learning algorithm is presented. Compared to conventional deep learning models, hybrid models outperforms in feature handing. Better feature extraction and selection can be made through deep learning models. Adding machine learning classifiers in deep learning architecture will enhance the classification performances. Thus, a hybrid convolutional neural network model was presented which extracts the features using CNN and classifies them through machine learning support vector machine. Simulation analysis of benchmark datasets demonstrates the proposed model performances. Finally, existing methods are comparatively analyzed to demonstrate the better performance of the proposed model as a result of the proposed hybrid combination.

  • The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its cost are increasing due to lifestyle changes and aging. This study aimed to develop a deep neural network model for prediction and classification of MetS according to nutrient intake and other MetS-related factors. This study included 17,848 individuals aged 40-69 years from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013-2018). We set MetS (3-5 risk factors present) as the dependent variable and 52 MetS-related factors and nutrient intake variables as independent variables in a regression analysis. The analysis compared and analyzed model accuracy, precision and recall by conventional logistic regression, machine learning-based logistic regression and deep learning. The accuracy of train data was 81.2089, and the accuracy of test data was 81.1485 in a MetS classification and prediction model developed in this study. These accuracies were higher than those obtained by conventional logistic regression or machine learning-based logistic regression. Precision, recall, and F1-score also showed the high accuracy in the deep learning model. Blood alanine aminotransferase (β = 12.2035) level showed the highest regression coefficient followed by blood aspartate aminotransferase (β = 11.771) level, waist circumference (β = 10.8555), body mass index (β = 10.3842), and blood glycated hemoglobin (β = 10.1802) level. Fats (cholesterol [β = -2.0545] and saturated fatty acid [β = -2.0483]) showed high regression coefficients among nutrient intakes. The deep learning model for classification and prediction on MetS showed a higher accuracy than conventional logistic regression or machine learning-based logistic regression.
