Image compression is a fundamental technique in the field of digital image processing, which will help to decrease the storage space and to transmit the files efficiently. Recently many deep learning techniques have been proposed to promise results on image compression field. Since many image compression techniques have artifact problems, this paper has compared two deep learning approaches to verify their performance experimentally to solve the problems. One of the approaches is a deep autoencoder technique, and another is a deep convolutional neural network (CNN). For those results in the performance of peak signal-to-noise and root mean square error, this paper shows that deep autoencoder method has more advantages than deep CNN approach.
Phase unwrapping is an essential procedure for interferometric synthetic aperture radar techniques. Accordingly, a lot of phase unwrapping methods have been developed. Deep-learning-based unwrapping methods have recently been proposed. In this paper, we reviewed state-of-the-art deep-learning-based unwrapping approaches in terms of 1) the approaches to predicting unwrapped phases, 2) deep learning model structures for phase unwrapping, and 3) training data generation. The research trend of the approaches to predicting unwrapped phases was introduced by categorizing wrap count segmentation, phase jump classification, phase regression, and deep-learning-assisted method. We introduced the case studies of deep learning model structure for phase unwrapping, and model structure optimization to relate the overall phase information. In addition, we summarized the research trend of the training data generation approaches in the views of phase gradient and noise in the main. And the future direction in deep-learning-based phase unwrapping was presented. It is expected that this paper is used as guideline for exploring future direction of deep-learning-based phase unwrapping research in Korea.

Artificial intelligence, especially deep learning technology, is penetrating the majority of research areas, including the field of bioinformatics. However, deep learning has some limitations, such as the complexity of parameter tuning, architecture design, and so forth. In this study, we analyze these issues and challenges in regards to its applications in bioinformatics, particularly genomic analysis and medical image analytics, and give the corresponding approaches and solutions. Although these solutions are mostly rule of thumb, they can effectively handle the issues connected to training learning machines. As such, we explore the tendency of deep learning technology by examining several directions, such as automation, scalability, individuality, mobility, integration, and intelligence warehousing.
Deep learning is a promising solution to a number of complex problems based on its inherent capability to approximate almost all types of functions without the demand for handcrafted feature extraction. New wireless transmission and access schemes based on deep learning are being increasingly proposed as substitutes for existing approaches, providing a lower complexity and better performance gain. Among such schemes, a communications system is viewed as an end-to-end autoencoder. The learning process applied in autoencoders can automatically deal with some nonlinear or unknown properties in communications systems. Deep learning can also be used to optimize each processing block for required tasks such as channel decoding, signal detection, and multiple access. On top of recent related research trends, we suggest appropriate research approaches for communications systems to adopt deep learning.

The recent introduction of various high-dimensional modeling methods, such as radiomics and deep learning, has created a much greater diversity in modeling approaches for survival prediction (or, more generally, time-to-event prediction). The newness of the recent modeling approaches and unfamiliarity with the model outputs may confuse some researchers and practitioners about the evaluation of the performance of such models. Methodological literacy to critically appraise the performance evaluation of the models and, ideally, the ability to conduct such an evaluation would be needed for those who want to develop models or apply them in practice. This article intends to provide intuitive, conceptual, and practical explanations of the statistical methods for evaluating the performance of survival prediction models with minimal usage of mathematical descriptions. It covers from conventional to deep learning methods, and emphasis has been placed on recent modeling approaches. This review article includes straightforward explanations of C indices (Harrell's C index, etc.), time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, calibration plot, other methods for evaluating the calibration performance, and Brier score.
In the past two decades, structural health monitoring (SHM) systems have been widely installed on various civil infrastructures for the tracking of the state of their structural health and the detection of structural damage or abnormality, through long-term monitoring of environmental conditions as well as structural loadings and responses. In an SHM system, there are plenty of sensors to acquire a huge number of monitoring data, which can factually reflect the in-service condition of the target structure. In order to bridge the gap between SHM and structural maintenance and management (SMM), it is necessary to employ advanced data processing methods to convert the original multi-source heterogeneous field monitoring data into different types of specific physical indicators in order to make effective decisions regarding inspection, maintenance and management. Conventional approaches to data analysis are confronted with challenges from environmental noise, the volume of measurement data, the complexity of computation, etc., and they severely constrain the pervasive application of SHM technology. In recent years, with the rapid progress of computing hardware and image acquisition equipment, the deep learning-based data processing approach offers a new channel for excavating the massive data from an SHM system, towards autonomous, accurate and robust processing of the monitoring data. Many researchers from the SHM community have made efforts to explore the applications of deep learning-based approaches for structural damage detection and structural condition assessment. This paper gives a review on the deep learning-based SHM of civil infrastructures with the main content, including a brief summary of the history of the development of deep learning, the applications of deep learning-based data processing approaches in the SHM of many kinds of civil infrastructures, and the key challenges and future trends of the strategy of deep learning-based SHM.
Maintenance of aging structures has attracted societal attention. Maintenance of the aging structure can be efficiently performed with a digital twin. In order to maintain the structure based on the digital twin, it is required to accurately detect the damage of the structure. Meanwhile, deep learning-based damage detection approaches have shown good performance for detecting damage of structures. However, in order to develop such deep learning-based damage detection approaches, it is necessary to use a large number of data before and after damage, but there is a problem that the amount of data before and after the damage is unbalanced in reality. In order to solve this problem, this study proposed a method based on Generative adversarial network, one of Generative Model, for generating acceleration data usually used for damage detection approaches. As results, it is confirmed that the acceleration data generated by the GAN has a very similar pattern to the acceleration generated by the simulation with structural analysis software. These results show that not only the pattern of the macroscopic data but also the frequency domain of the acceleration data can be reproduced. Therefore, these findings show that the GAN model can analyze complex acceleration data on its own, and it is thought that this data can help training of the deep learning-based damage detection approaches.

Recently, Machine Learning-based visualization approaches have been proposed to combat the problem of malware detection. Unfortunately, these techniques are exposed to Adversarial examples. Adversarial examples are noises which can deceive the deep learning based malware detection network such that the malware becomes unrecognizable. To address the shortcomings of these approaches, we present Block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) algorithm and deep image prior based denoising technique to defend against adversarial examples on visualization-based malware detection systems. The BM3D based denoising method eliminates most of the adversarial noise. After that the deep image prior based denoising removes the remaining subtle noise. Experimental results on the MS BIG malware dataset and benign samples show that the proposed denoising based defense recovers the performance of the adversarial attacked CNN model for malware detection to some extent.

Purpose: This study uses a descriptive research design to identify the influence of critical thinking disposition, deep approaches to learning, and interaction between learners on the degree of nursing process confidence for nursing students. Methods: The subjects of the study were second-year students in the Department of Nursing at a university in G city. The data included general characteristics, critical thinking disposition, deep approaches to learning, learner-to-learner interaction, and nursing process confidence were analyzed utilizing an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffe's test to identify differences in the variables according to general characteristics. To identify the correlation between the factors related to the nursing process and nursing process confidence, Pearson's correlation was analyzed, and hierarchical regression was used to determine the factors affecting the confidence of the subject's nursing process. Results: Gender, critical thinking disposition, and in-depth learning approach were statistically significant as factors affecting the nursing process confidence of nursing students, and these factors were shown to explain 62% of nursing course performance (F=23.80, p<.001), among which in-depth learning access has the greatest influence (β=.41, p<.001). Conclusion: Critical thinking disposition and deep approaches to learning arbitration program development are necessary to improve nursing students' nursing process confidence.

Crypto-mining malware (known as crypto-jacking) is a novel cyber-attack that exploits the victim's computing resources such as CPU and GPU to generate illegal cryptocurrency. The attacker get benefit from crypto-jacking by using someone else's mining hardware and their electricity power. This research focused on the possibility of detecting the potential crypto-mining malware in an environment by analyzing both static and dynamic approaches of deep learning. The Program Executable (PE) files were utilized with deep learning methods which are Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The finding revealed that LTSM outperformed both SVM and RF in static and dynamic approaches with percentage of 98% and 96%, respectively. Future studies will focus on detecting the malware using larger dataset to have more accurate and realistic results.
