알루미늄 합금 피스톤과 스틸 단조 피스톤의 내구성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Durability Performance of Aluminum Alloy Piston and Steel Forging Piston)

  • The goal of this research is to confirm reliable durability and evaluate the engine performance of the current aluminum alloy piston and the newly developed steel forging piston. For such purpose, the test environment was built with 2.91 target engine mounted on the engine dynamometer and additional exhaust gas analysis system. Using the test environment, engine performance test was conducted, and durability test was also conducted using a dedicated piston durability test equipment for 400,000 km. As a result of the experiment, similar durability was appeared for both aluminum piston and steel piston, and the engine output power and torque are slightly reduced because of $158\%$ heavier weight of the steel piston compare to the aluminum alloy piston.

  • Natural gas is one of the most promising alternative fuels for automative vehicles, because it has lower exhaust emissions and better fuel economy characteristics than gasoline and can be used in conventional engines with a little modification. In the present study, a conventional gasoline engine was modified to a CNG dedicated engine, which can be operated with CNG( compressed natural gas) only, and a engine bench test was performed at various compression ratios. As a result, it was revealed that the prototype CNG engine can be operated with lower exhaust emissions, better fuel economy and better thermal efficiency, but with a sightly reduced brake horse power, compared to the conventional gasoline engine.

Effects of the Intake Valve Timing and the Injection Timing for a Miller Cycle Engine

  • The objective of the research was to study the effects a Miller cycle. The engine was dedicated to natural gas usage by modifying pistons, fuel system and ignition systems. The engine was installed on a dynamometer and attached with various sensors and controllers. Intake valve timing, engine speed, load, injection timing and ignition timing are main parameters. Miller Cycle without supercharging can increase brake thermal efficiency 1.08% and reduce brake specific fuel consumption 4.58%. The injection timing must be synchronous with valve timing, speed and load to control the performances, emissions and knock margin. Throughout these tested speeds, original camshaft is recommended to obtain high volumetric efficiency.

고속카메라를 이용한 디젤엔진내의 화염 가시화, 화염의 온도 및 매연 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Measurement of Flame Visualization, Temperature and Soot for Diffusion Flame in a Diesel Engine Using High-Speed Camera)

  • The temperature and soot of the visualized diesel engine's turbulent flow of the flame was measured qualitatively. In the combustion chamber, in order to judge the affect that the swirl current has on the current ratio two heads with different ratios were used. Using a high speed camera, the results were analyzed using flame visualization. In order to measure the temperature and soot of the turbulent flames like diesel flames, two color methods were used to acquire temperature and the soot of the flames according to the conditions through analyzing the two wavelengths of the flames. It was possible to measure the highest temperature of the non-swirl head visualized engine, which is approximately 2400K, and that swirl head engine managed up to 2100K. With respect to the visualized diesel engine soot, we got the grasp of the KL factor which bears the qualitative information of the soot. This study is dedicated to suggesting the possibility of measuring not only the temperature but also soot of the diffusion flame of the diesel engine turbulent flames.

  • 천연가스는 메탄을 주성분으로 하는 청정한 대체연료로 자동차나 트럭 등에 압축천연가스와 액화천연가스 형태로 사용할 수 있다. 그리고, 천연가스만을 사용하는 전소엔진과 가솔린 및 천연가스를 동시에 사용할 수 있는 겸용엔진이 있으며, 특히, 겸용엔진의 경우 두가지 연료를 동시에 사용할 수 있는 것으로 정의할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 선박용 가솔린 시스템을 인젝터, 레귤레이터, 연료탱크 및 전자제어장치로 구성된 압축 천연가스 겸용시스템으로 전환시켜 연료시스템과 동력값을 비교하였다. 그 결과, 천연가스엔진의 경우 적은 배출가스를 나타내었으며 최대동력은 가솔린엔진과 비교 약 7%정도 감소함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • To reduce the particulate matter and nitrogen oxides from diesel engine, many studies are proceeding and being accomplished practically. In this situation CNG engine has important meaning both as a clean fuel and an alternative energy. In order to present the direction and application of CNG, we simulated various operating conditions, that is, spark timing, compression ratio and fuel composition etc. Thus we try to understand how those affect performance and exhaust characteristics. The simulation program results found that the optimum combustion start angle was 21$^{\circ}$ at 1800rpm and fuel composition affects performance and emissions, also we could understand the formation of emission as crank angle is changed.

가스터빈 엔진용 공기터빈 시동기 성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Research on the Performance of Air Turbine Starter for Gas Turbine Engines)

  • Gas turbines for an aircraft have the start and restart capabilities within their flight envelop. It is an important item for engine qualification and substantiated with the test. Experimental investigations were carried out to find the relation between the corrected torque and the corrected rotating speed of an air turbine starter in this study. A dedicated air supply system for the air turbine starter and a special device to measure the torque and the rotating speed of the air turbine starter were developed and installed at the altitude engine test facility in Korea Aerospace Research Institute. Experimental results show that the relations between the corrected torque and the corrected rotating speed of the air turbine starter are linear and the inlet temperature and pressure conditions for the air turbine starter were found out to provide minimum required torque for the engine qualification test at various altitude. The start and restart tests for the currently developing engine were successfully performed using this experimental results.

  • 게임엔전은 실감형 콘텐츠를 제작하는 데 있어서 최소한의 시각적 품질 보증과 함께 멀티 플랫폼 등의 지원으로 개발시간 단축 등 효율적인 콘텐츠제작이 가능하다는 이점이 있다. 최근 게임엔진은 가상현실 HMD(Head Mounted Display)를 활용하는 실감형 콘텐츠를 쉽고 빠르며 효과적으로 제작할 수 있는 다양한 기능들을 제공하고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구는 게임을 비롯하여 콘텐츠제작 산업 분야에서 많이 활용되는 유니티와 언리얼 게임엔진을 중심으로 오큘러스 퀘스트 2 HMD를 활용한 가상현실 콘텐츠제작에서의 개발환경에 관한 비교연구를 수행한다. 먼저 각 엔진이 제공하는 최소한의 기능과 설정이 포함된 가상현실 템플릿 프로젝트를 기반으로 오큘러스 퀘스트 2 HMD와 전용 컨트롤러를 활요하여 개발환경을 구축하는 기본 설정 과정을 비교한다. 다음으로 가상환경에서 상호작용할 수 있는 간단한 체험환경을 제시하고 전용 컨트롤러를 활용하기 위한 개발환경과 오큘러스 퀘스트 2에서 제공하는 손 추적기능을 통해 실제 손을 직접 활용하는 개발환경 구축과정을 엔진별로 비교한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 가상현실 개발환경을 구축하는 기본적인 처리 과정을 이해함과 동시에 엔진이 가지는 특징과 차이를 확인하여 다양한 실감형 콘텐츠제작에 응용할 수 있는 연구로 활용하고자 한다.
