Dissemination of XML data on the internet could breach the privacy of data providers unless access to the disseminated XML data is carefully controlled. Recently, the methods using encryption have been proposed for such access control. However, in these methods, the performance of processing queries has not been addressed. A query processor cannot identify the contents of encrypted XML data unless the data are decrypted. This limitation incurs overhead of decrypting the parts of the XML data that would not contribute to the query result. In this paper, we propose the notion of query-aware decryption for efficient processing of queries against encrypted XML data. Query-aware decryption allows us to decrypt only those parts that would contribute to the query result. For this purpose, we disseminate an encrypted XML index along with the encrypted XML data. This index, when decrypted, informs us where the query results are located in the encrypted XML data, thus preventing unnecessary decryption for other parts of the data. Since the size of this index is much smaller than that of the encrypted XML data, the cost of decrypting this index is negligible compared with that for unnecessary decryption of the data itself. The experimental results show that our method improves the performance of query processing by up to 6 times compared with those of existing methods. Finally, we formally prove that dissemination of the encrypted XML index does not compromise security.
An anonymous asymmetric fingerprinting protocol combined with watermarking techniques, is one of the copyright protection technologies keeping both right of a seller and that of a buyer, where a seller and an anonymous buyer perform such a protocol that employs various cryptographic tools in order that the seller does not know the exact watermarked copy that the buyer receives, while inserting an invisible non-removable fingerprint i.e., each different unique watermark, into each copy of the digital content to be sold. In such a protocol innocent buyers are kept anonymous during transactions, however, the unlawful reseller is unambiguously identified with a real identity as a copyright violator. In 2007, Yong and Lee proposed an anonymous asymmetric fingerprinting scheme with trusted third party. In this paper we point out the weakness of their scheme such as: the buyer with intention can remove the fingerprint in the watermarked content, because he/she can decrypt the encrypted fingerprint with a symmetric key using man-in-the-middle-attack; a real identity of a buyer can be revealed to the seller through the identification process even though he/she is honest. Furthermore, we propose an improved secure and efficient anonymous asymmetric fingerprinting scheme which enables to reduce the number of communication between the participants.

In this paper, we proposed an architecture of a cryptosystem with various operating modes for the network security and implemented in hardware using the ASIC library. For configuring a cryptosystem, the standard block ciphers such as AES, SEED and 3DES were included. And the implemented cryptosystem can encrypt and decrypt the data in real time through the wired/wireless network with the minimum latency time (minimum 64 clocks, maximum 256 clocks). It can support CTR mode which is widely used recently as well as the conventional block cipher modes such as ECB, CBC and OFB, and operates in the multi-bit mode (64, 128, 192, and 256 bits). The implemented hardware has the expansion possibility for the other algorithms according to the network security protocol such as IPsec and the included ciphering blocks can be operated simultaneously. The self-ciphering mode and various ciphering mode can be supported by the hardware sharing and the programmable data-path. The global operation is programmed by the serial communication port and the operation is decided by the control signals decoded from the instruction by the host. The designed hardware using VHDL was synthesized with Hynix 0.25$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology and it used the about 100,000 gates. Also we could assure the stable operation in the timing simulation over 100㎒ using NC-verilog.

It is easy to reverse engineer an Android app package file(APK) and get its decompiled source code. Therefore, attackers obtains economic benefits by illegally using the decompiled source code, or modifies an app by inserting malware. To address these problems in Android, we propose an APK overwrite scheme that protects apps against illegal modification of themselves by using a new anti-reverse engineering technique. In this paper, the targets are the apps which have been written by any programmer. For a target app (original app), server system (1) makes a copy of a target app, (2) encrypts the target app, (3) creates a stub app by replacing the DEX (Dalvik Executable) of the copied version with our stub DEX, and then (4) distributes the stub app as well as the encrypted target app to users of smartphones. The users downloads both the encrypted target app and the corresponding stub app. Whenever the stub app is executed on smartphones, the stub app and our launcher app decrypt the encrypted target app, overwrite the stub app with the decrypted target one, and executes the decrypted one. Every time the target app ends its execution, the decrypted app is deleted. To verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme, experimentation with several popular apps are carried out. The results of the experiment demonstrate that our scheme is effective for preventing reverse engineering and tampering of Android apps.
Juliano Rizzo and Thai Duong, the authors of the BEAST attack [11, 12] on SSL, have proposed a new attack named CRIME [13] which is Compression Ratio Info-leak Made Easy. The CRIME exploits how data compression and encryption interact to discover secret information about the underlying encrypted data. Repeating this method allows an attacker to eventually decrypt the data and recover HTTP session cookies. This security weakness targets in SPDY and SSL/TLS compression. The attack becomes effective because the attacker is enable to choose different input data and observe the length of the encrypted data that comes out. Since Transport Layer Security (TLS) ensures integrity of data transmitted between two parties (server and client) and provides strong authentication for both parties, in the last few years, it has a wide range of attacks on SSL/TLS which have exploited various features in the TLS mechanism. In this paper, we will discuss about the CRIME and other versions of SSL/TLS attacks along with countermeasures, implementations. We also present direction for SSL/TLS attacks resistance in practice.

We are using our smartphone for our business as well as ours lives. Thus, user's privacy data and a company secret are stored at smartphone. By the way, the saved data on smartphone database can be exposed to a malicous attacker when a malicous app is installed in the smartphone or a user lose his/her smartphone because all data are stored as form of plaintext in the database. To prevent this disclosure of personal information, we need a database encryption method. However, if a database is encrypted, it causes of declining the performance. For example, when we search specific data in condition with encrypted database, we should decrypt all data stored in the database or search sequentially the data we want with accompanying overhead[1]. In this paper, we propose an efficient and searchable encryption method using variable length bloom filter under limited resource circumstances(e.g., a smartphone). We compare with existing searchable symmetric encryption. Also, we implemented the proposed method in android smartphone and evaluated the performance the proposed method. As a result through the implementation, We can confirm that our method has over a 50% improvement in the search speed compared to the simple search method about encrypted database and has over a 70% space saving compared to the method of fixed length bloom filter with the same false positive rate.
Public Key Broadcast Encryption (PKBE) allows a sender to distribute a message to a changing set of users over an insecure channel. PKBE schemes should be able to dynamically exclude (i.e., revoke) a certain subset of users from decrypting a ciphertext, so that only remaining users can decrypt the ciphertext. Another important requirement is for the scheme to be forward-secrecy. A forward-secure PKBE (fs-PKBE) enables each user to update his private key periodically. This updated private key prevents an adversary from obtain the private key for certain past period, which property is particularly needed for pay-TV systems. In this paper, we present a fs-PKBE scheme where both ciphertexts and private keys are of $O(\sqrt{n})$ size. Our PKBE construction is based on Boneh-Boyen-Goh's hierarchical identity-based encryption scheme. To provide the forward-secrecy with our PKBE scheme, we again use the delegation mechanism for lower level identities, introduced in the BBG scheme. We prove chosen ciphertext security of the proposed scheme under the Bilinear Diffie-Hellman Exponent assumption without random oracles.

In this paper, we analyzed that the user authentication scheme for TMIS(Telecare Medicine Information System) proposed by Al-Saggaf et al. In 2019, Al-Saggaf et al. proposed authentication scheme using biometric information, Al-Saggaf et al. claimed that their authentication scheme provides high security against various attacks along with very low computational cost. However in this paper after analyzing Al-Saggaf et al's authentication scheme, the Al-Saggaf et al's one are missing random number s from the DB to calculate the identity of the user from the server, and there is a design error in the authentication scheme due to the lack of delivery method. Al-Saggaf et al also claimed that their authentication scheme were safe against a variety of attacks, but were vulnerable to password guessing attack using login request messages and smart cards, session key exposure and insider attack. An attacker could also use a password to decrypt the stored user's biometric information by encrypting the DB with a password. Exposure of biometric information is a very serious breach of the user's privacy, which could allow an attacker to succeed in the user impersonation. Furthermore, Al-Saggaf et al's authentication schemes are vulnerable to identity guessing attack, which, unlike what they claimed, do not provide significant user anonymity in TMIS.

The world's widely used key exchange protocols are open cryptographic communication protocols, such as TLS/SSL, whereas in the financial field in Korea, key exchange protocols developed by industrial classification group have been used that are based on PKI(Public Key Infrastructure) which is suitable for the financial environments of Korea. However, the key exchange protocols are not only vulnerable to client impersonation attacks and known-key attacks, but also do not provide forward secrecy. Especially, an attacker with the private keys of the financial security server can easily get an old session-key that can decrypt the encrypted messages between the clients and the server. The exposure of the server's private keys by internal management problems, etc, results in a huge problem, such as exposure of a lot of private information and financial information of clients. In this paper, we analyze the weaknesses of the cryptographic communication protocols in use in Korea. We then propose two key exchange protocols which reduce the replacement cost of protocols and are also secure against client impersonation attacks and session-key and private key reveal attacks. The forward secrecy of the second protocol is reduced to the HDH(Hash Diffie-Hellman) problem.

Visible light communication (VLC) is a method of transmitting data through LED blinking and is vulnerable to eavesdropping because the illumination affects the wide range of area. IEEE standard 802.15.7 defines On-Off Keying (OOK), Variable Pulse Position Modulation (VPPM), and Color Shift Keying (CSK) as modulation. In this paper, we propose an encryption method in VPPM for secure communication. The VPPM uses an encoding method called 4B6B where 16 different outputs are represented with 6-bit. This paper extends the number of outputs to 20, to add complexity while not violating the 4B6B generation conditions. Then each entry in the extended 4B6B table is scrambled using vigenère cipher. The probability of decrypting each 6-bit data is $\frac{1}{20}$. Eavesdropper should perform $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{n}20^k$ number of different trials to decrypt the message if the number of keys is n. The proposed method can be applied to OOK of PHY II and CSK of PHY III. We further discuss the secure encoding that can be used in OOK and CSK without performance degradation.
