With steel and concrete composite beams, the incomplete interaction between the steel and the concrete slab leads to an appreciable increase in beam deflections. Moreover, encased composite beams using a deep deck plate or hollow-core PC slabs are critical to deflection due to their inherent geometry. In this paper, by using the calculation tools that were developed for a previous study on the deflection of encased composite beams considering the slip effects and load-slip curve, the shear bond stress and additional deflection induced due to interface slip of the encased composite beam are presented. It was found that the slip effects significantly contribute to the encased composite beam deflections and result in stiffness reduction of up to 30% compared to that of full shear interaction beams. The predicted results were compared with the measurement of 18 specimens tested in this study, and comparisons show a high degree of accuracy, within 6%.

In the initial ship design stage of shipyards, the hull form design, the basic design (compartment modeling and ship calculation), and the hull structural design are being performed by different systems. Thus, the problem on interfaces between these systems occurs. To solve this, we developed the hull form design system 'EzHULL' and the compartment modeling and ship calculation system 'EzCOM-PART' for developing finally an integrated ship design system. And, in this study, we present an object-oriented hull structural design .system 'EzSTRUCT', which is developed recently. A structural design in an initial design stage can be frequently changed, because the design is not firmly determined yet. Therefore, designers perform the simplified structural modeling with bigger structural parts (or objects) such as deck, longitudinal bulkhead, etc. in the initial design stage, and the detailed structural modeling with smaller structural parts such as plate, seam, slot, etc. in the detailed design stage. However, the existing hull structural CAD system used in a shipyard is not efficient in generating a 3D CAD model in the initial design stage, because it has difficulty in handling frequent changes in design. Therefore, designers initially draw 2D drawings in the initial design stage, and generate the 3D CAD model from these 2D drawings in the detailed design and production design stages. In this study, the hull structural design system, which can efficiently generate a 3D CAD model through rapid modeling at an initial design stage, was developed in this study To evaluate the applicability of the developed system, we applied it to hull structural modeling of various ships such as a VLCC, a bulk carrier, etc. As a result, it could efficiently generate a 3D CAD model of a hull structure.
Orthotropic steel decks are manufactured by welding thin plates therefore it is inevitable that there are abundant works of welding process. On connection of transverse rib web, crossing point of longitudinal rib, transverse rib and deck plate and cut-out parts of transverse rib are the significant position of stress concentration phenomenon because of out of plane and oil-caning deformation caused by longitudinal rib distortion with shear force and distortion. In order to reduce the stress concentration phenomenon and improving fatigue performance at the crosing point and cut-out, structural analysis was performed considering the existence of scalop at conection and diaphragm which have same plane with transverse rib placed inside of longitudinal rib. Result o f the analysis show that there are the largest efect of stres concentration reduction when diaphragms are installed without scallop at connection, therefore these detail can improve the fatigue performance of orthotropic steel decks.

The effect of thermal stress on a ship's hull is not considered to be serious by most naval architects. Frequently, however, cracking of hulls has been reported which occurred at sea while there were no external forces except the heat from the sun. Detailed investigations have been made of these reports and it has been reliably determined that the damage was initiated by solar heating. The author is not interested in all steel ship or in the applicability and validity of the formular itself, as it has already been proven by the experiments such as S.S. Boulder Victory. The author therefore proceeds directly to calculate the stress distribution on he hull and superstructure of the prototype model ship. These calculations are based on the experimental nonsymetrical temperature gradient data taken earlier on the Boulder Victory. The calculations were made principally to determine the extent of stresses which occurred on an all-steel ship in one case and secondly, those that occurred on a ship with a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. From the calculations, the author expected the stress distribution of the two case would show distinctly different aspects, but the acquired results were very similar. Generally, at the point of junction of the steel hull and aluminum superstructure sharp peak stresses appeared. At the juncture of the superstructure and the main deck the ship with the aluminum superstructure registered almost 1000 psi more stress than did the ship with the all-steel construction. In the view of these findings, the author recommends to ship designers that pay particular attention to the point of junction of steel and aluminum plate. The author has proven that it is extremely important that a greater safety factor be used at the aluminum-steel junction point than at any other point. Although thermal effects cause high juncture-point stresses in all-steel ships, they are not nearly as critical as in ship constructed of two or more metals.
In this study, the effects of cross beams on the lateral distribution of live loads in composite rolled H-beam girder bridges, were investigated through three-dimensional finite element analysis. The parameters considered in this study were the inertial moment ratio between the main girder and the cross beam, the presence of the cross beam, and the number of cross beams. The live load lateral distribution factors were investigated through finite element analysis and the customary grid method. The results show that there was no difference between the bridge models with and without a cross beam. The cross beam of the beam and frame types also showed almost the same live load lateral distribution factors. However, the finite element analysis showed that the concrete slab deck plays a major role in the lateral distribution of a live load, and consequently, the effect of the cross beam is not so insignificant that it can be neglected.

Shaking table tests are performed to investigate the seismic behavior of the batter pile and to bring up the countermeasures to improve the seismic performance of the batter pile. First of all, this study demonstrates how batter piles and vertical piles behave under static lateral loadings. Secondly, the vulnerability of batter plies under dynamic lateral loadings is demonstrated showing the axial forces and bending moments mobilized at the pile heads during shaking table tests. Thirdly, countermeasures to overcome the vulnerability of behavior piles during earthquakes are pursued. The countermeasures investigated in this study include introduction of a rubber element at the pile head and the deck plate connection, and introduction of hinge connection. Finally, the slope of batter piles which induces the minimum pile forces during the dynamic loadings are investigated and found to be 8:3 (Vertical to Horizontal).

A method, which uses analytical or numerical modal analysis results, e.g. from finite element analysis, to select desirable response measurement and excitation points for an efficient modal testing is introduced. First, points of master degree of freedom(DOP) are determined so as to statistically minimize errors between responses of a full order model and those estimated from the reduced order model. Such master DOF's are selected as the response measurement points. Then a criterion named 'driving point model constant(DPMC)' related to the magnitudes of resonance peaks of the driving point freqency response functions used to select the point of excitation out of the master DOF's. In this work, the method is demonstrated through applications to modal testing on a one dimensional cantilever beam and an aluminum plate and the results are compared with those by another technique. also, the method is applied to a two dimensional structural component of a passenger car.

This paper presents the results of an experimental study to evaluate the redundancy in two plate-girder bridges, which are generally classified as non-redundant load path structures. The study was performed at a time when one of the two girders was damaged. The bottom lateral bracing was considered the experimental variable, and two 1/5-scale bridge specimens of simple span with and without a lateral bracing system were fabricated. Loading tests were first performed on the intact specimens without a cracked girder, within an elastic range. Thereafter, the ultimate loading tests were conducted on the damaged specimens with an induced crack at the center of a girder. The test results showed that the cross beams and the concrete deck redistributed some of the load to the uncracked girder, but the lateral bracing system played an important role in improving the redundancy during the damage and was also effective for load redistribution even when the bridge was intact.

For the deckhouse or superstructure, attention is directed to the reduction of vibration from a human susceptibility point of view. The two basic requirements for obtaining a low vibration level in the accommodation are to ensure that excitation forces from propeller and/or main engine are small and to avoid resonance excitation of the hull and superstructure. In recent years increased attention has been directed towards the problems of vibration and noise in deckhouse, which have caused major problems with regard to the environmental quality in the living quarters for crews. Accordingly, in this paper, the characteristic of the vibration of deckhouse of fishing boat, of which the length/height ratio is also relatively high, are studied systematically with regard to the shape and modelling of deckhouse based on finite element method of 1-dimensional, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional model. This study is divided into 4-part. 1st part is the global deckhouse vibration, 2nd part is the local deckhouse vibration, 3rd part consists of the estimation for stiffness of foundational support and 4th part is the application to TUNA LONG LINER of 416 ton class. For the global vibration analysis, the severity of the vibration depends on the longitudinal shear and bending stiffness of the deckhouse, on the vertical deckhouse support(fore, aft and sides). However, even if the design is technically sound, vibration problems may arise due to vertical or longitudinal hull girder or afterbody resonances. Author applied the method of this study to the analysis of, deep-sea fishing vessel of G.T. 416 ton class with relatively low height and long deckhouse, and investigated the vibrational characteristic of the fishing vessel with earlier structural feature. According to this investigation, the vibration, response of above vessel was confirmed of which main hull and deckhouse behave as one body. It is at the bottom of vibrational trouble which a accommodation part of the fishing vessel is raised, that is the local vibration for side wall, fore-aft wall and deck plate of deckhouse rather than thief fect of fore-aft vibration of deckhouse for above fishing vessel. and the resonance of main hull, deckhouse and driving system such as the main engine, propeller in exciting source is mainly brought up as the trouble.

Currently, the prefabricated bridge having the effects to reduce the term of works and the cost of construction is often studied and countries such as America have already developed members, the parts of it, and the technique of construction. In addition, they have supplied them to the fields. The study of prefabricated method of steel composite bridge, which has the precast deck - plate and main girder fixed by high tension bolt and can resist horizontal sheer, is being progressed. However, it is difficult to understand the characteristics of the prefabricated bridge's behavior when the superstructure of the prefabricated method is analyzed by applying to the analysis model of existing bridges. Therefore, this study has the purpose of understanding real structural behavior of prefabricated bridge through comparison and analysis between the structural analysis model reflecting the characteristics of the real prefabricated bridge's superstructure and real size experiment.
