Deciding to Update Mobile Applications: Reasons and Consequences of Inertia

  • While most of studies have paid attention to the initial adoption of a specific application, research on applications has not focused on an individual's update decision process. This study draws upon both dual information processing and status quo bias perspectives as a comprehensive theoretical lens to explain why individuals do not update their applications. This study assumes that individuals' inertia could be the main reason for their reluctance to update the applications. Based on a survey of 186 smartphone users, this study demonstrated that both habit as an affective trigger of system 1 thinking and sunk cost as a cognitive trigger of system 2 thinking promoted the two types of inertia (i.e., affective and cognitive based inertia) in individuals, which have a negative effect on their willingness to update their applications. By grounding the research model in a theoretical view, such as dual information processing and status quo bias, this study provides a unique theoretical lens from which to view individuals' behaviors, thereby gaining a better understanding of their decision not to update to the current version of applications. This study also investigates the moderating effect of the types of applications on the relationships between affective/cognitive-based inertia and willingness to update. Results show that both habit and sunk cost decrease the willingness to update because they increase both affective and cognitive-based inertia. This study also found that the effects of affective/cognitive based inertia differed depending on the type of applications.

기업내 조직 관성이 클라우드 컴퓨팅 전환 의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증적 연구 (Unveiling the Influence of Corporate Organizational Inertia on Cloud Computing Transition Intentions: An Empirical Inquiry)

  • This study explores the tendency of corporations and organizations to continue with their current processes despite having incentives for better Information Technology (IT) innovation or transition. In this context, the study argues that organizations may struggle with 'outsourcing inertia,' a well-known concept referring to an organization's deficient adaptability to environmental changes, particularly defined here as the organization's slow adaptation to changes in outsourcing levels. To verify this, the study analyzes how key variables identified from existing IT Outsourcing (ITO) decision-making research and recent studies on cloud computing transitions actually affect a firm's transition intentions. In the process, this study investigates the moderating effect of a firm's outsourcing inertia, utilizing the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework and the Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) model based on migration theory to propose a research model. The study aims to contribute to finding strategic approaches necessary for facilitating IT innovation and transition by understanding the impact of outsourcing inertia on the decision-making process related to IT outsourcing. It is important to note that the majority of domestic conglomerates own IT subsidiaries, which significantly influence the process of transitioning to cloud computing. Nevertheless, research on the impact of IT subsidiaries on cloud computing transition is relatively scarce. Based on this background, this study proposes that IT subsidiaries within domestic conglomerates can act as a significant mooring factor of organizational inertia in the decision-making process for adopting cloud computing. Through this, the study seeks to provide strategic insights for overcoming organizational inertia faced by IT subsidiaries during the cloud computing transition process.

자본구조의 관성과 상품시장 경쟁간의 관계 (Capital Structure Inertia and Product Market Competition)

  • 본 논문에서는 1981년부터 2015년까지 거래소에 상장된 비-금융기업을 대상으로 자본구조의 관성이 어떻게 산업 간에 차이가 존재하며 이러한 차이가 상품시장 경쟁에 의해 설명될 수 있는지를 실증검증 한다. 본 논문의 실증분석 결과는 '보다 경쟁적 산업에 속하는 기업일수록 자본구조의사결정에 보다 더 관성적으로 하는 경향이 있다'는 것이다. 이러한 결과는 부채의 규율효과에 의해 설명되며, 상품시장경쟁에 대한 대체재로서 기여한다고 할 수 있다. 상품시장 경쟁이 낮을 때, 경영자는 자본구조의사결정과 관련하여 보다 능동적으로 의사결정을 하며 특히 잉여현금 흐름문제를 제약하기 위하여 부채를 사용한다는 것이다. 더욱이 거래비용이 얼마나 설명력이 있는지를 조사하며 자본구조관성에 대한 일반적인 설명이 되는지 파악한다. 본 논문의 결과는 기업의 자본구조에 관성현상이 존재하지만 미국 기업들만큼은 강하지 않았다. 둘째, 이러한 관성효과는 상품시장경쟁과의 관계를 통하여 강하게 나타나지만, OLS 추정모형에서 관성효과가 사라지는 현상이 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 거래비용이 자본구조의 관성을 설명하는 데 중요한 역할을 하지 않는다는 증거로 해석될 수 있다.

관계지향성에 대한 고객만족과 거래성향의 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on Effects of Customer Satisfaction and Transaction Characteristics on Customers Relationship-Orientation)

  • 본 논문은 고객의 기업에 대한 관계지향성이 어떠한 요인에 의해 이루어지는지를 연구한 것이다. 보다 구체적으로, 고객의 관계지향성은 크게 고객만족 수준과 거래성향에 의해 영향을 받으며, 고객만족은 품질 불일치에 의해 영향을 받는다는 가설이 설정되었다. 여기서, 거래성향을 구성하는 요소는 거래상의 의사결정 효율성, 의사결정 관성, 점포 내 정보수집, 그리고 지각된 위험이다. 본 가설의 검증을 위해 분당 지역의 백화점과 할인점의 고객 494명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과, 고객의 관계지향성은 의사결정의 효율성, 의사결정의 관성, 고객만족에 의해 영향을 받으며, 고객만족은 품질 불일치에 의해 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 점포 내 정보수집과 지각된 위험은 관계지향성에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 이에 대한 보다 심층적인 연구가 기대된다.

기존의 엔진룸을 이용한 신규 개발 디젤 엔진의 지지계 결정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Decision of the Mount for the Newly Developed Diesel Engine using the Existing Engine Room)

  • This paper presents the procedures and technique of the decision on the decision on the mount in a diesel engine development newly. To assess the vibration chara- cteristics of the engine plus transmission, their inertia moments are calculated for three engine versions. i.e., NA(Naturally Aspirated), TC(Turbocharged) and TCI(Turbocharged and Intercooled). These data are used to determine the mount layout and stiffness values affecting the noise quality of an engine as well as a vehicle. The main purpose of this paper is to design the mount rubber having the optimal stiffness characteristics through the investigation of the calculation results and the mount conditions when an engine is installed in a vehicle using the existing engine mount room. Thus, this paper describes the optimal mount positions, rubber stiffnesses, natural frequency, mode shapes and so on using ADAMS program to apply the newly developed engines to three different vehicles.

디젤엔진축계 진동저감을 위한 스프링-점성 댐퍼의 매개변수 결정 연구 (Study on the Parameter Decision of Spring-viscous Dampers for Torsional Vibration Reduction of Diesel Engine Shafting System)

  • Excessive torsional vibrations from marine engine shafting systems can be reduced by using torsional vibration dampers. But in order to be tuned effectively, the dampers should be designed through the optimum design procedure. In this paper, the procedure to get the optimum values of system parameters of spring-viscous dampers using effective modal mass of inertia and stiffness is suggested and the damping is determined by the exact algebra optimization method. The validity of the suggested method is confirmed through the application to a 1800 kW four cycle diesel engine and generator system.

  • The purpose of this paper is to compare the characteristics between group that has only one credit card and group that has multiple credit cards in each stage of purchase decision making based on the literature in consumer behavior. Results indicated that (1) The number of credit cards that consumers has was affected by internal factor and reference factor, (2) depending on the number of credit cards, usage frequency, amount, and duration were differently showed and (3) inertia, point accumulation, and convenience were founded as determinants of using credit cards. Finally, theoretical and managerial implications of these findings are discussed.

  • Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia and high efficiency. However, position sensor is essential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigates the speed control of sensorless SRM in which the phase current and change rate are utilized in position decision, and the period of dwell angle is variable by compensating the rotor angle. The proposed system consists of position decision, phase locked loop controller, switching angle controller and inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through experiments.

  • 본 연구는 건설경영자의 경영Mind정립과 합리적 의사결정에 필요한 사고체계 구축에 필요한 논리와 기업경영에서 돌출될 수 있는 외부적 간섭인자를 효과적으로 분석할 수 있는 방향을 제시하는 것이 목적이다. 따라서 경영Mind 정립에 적용되는 간섭인자들이 경영 의사결정에 많은 영향을 주기 때문에 Mind정립과 경영환경에 대한 합리적 접근방법을 제시하고, 시간의 동태성에 따른 환경 요인들을 경영학, 심리학, 철학적 개념에서 논리적 단계로 분석했다. 끝으로 의사결정 요소에 대한 원칙적 한계 및 접근단계와 평가기준을 정립해보았다. 본 연구를 수행한 결과를 다음과 같이 요약해 본다.
